stunt I would laugh, but I have yet to forgive you for what you said about Peter Rabbit!

DonnaDoon · 05/12/2012 18:34

hey what she said about our little pete ?

DonnaDoon · 05/12/2012 18:34

*has

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 18:40

yw we have nyastin for penny. It is 1ml dropped in her mouth after feeds 4 times a day for a week. It is horrendous as she is usually sleeping and responds very badly to having a 'cherry' flavoured substance dropped in her mouth. You would, wouldn't you? I am not being treated as there is no need.

We tried the bath time routine again tonight after last night's mammoth failure. Timed it wrong as she is down too early but it seemed ok apart from lots of vomming. Not sure what all the vomming is about. Slightly Concerningly, DH has come home saying he doesn't feel well. That's not at all like him so I really hope he doesn't have anything horrid.

Catbag · 05/12/2012 18:46

YW That's absolutely shocking. It wouldn't occur to a lot of people that the doctor might not have got the dosage right. Well done you for double-checking.

TheDetective · 05/12/2012 18:59

Right, we just had a 50 minute feed. Less stopping during the feed. I got the widgey pillow out, and found that a little easier. Seems if I keep hold of the boob or his head that the feed is easier. I think my boobs are not quite big enough for lying down feeds, but squish his face when he is positioned correctly. Hmm.

Its annoying, as technically everything has been pretty smooth with the feeding! I think we just need to work on more effective use of time Wink.

I have also put the dummy in once he bought himself off and I figured he had finished. I have just put him in the basket 20 minutes after finishing the feed. With the dummy in. Don't usually give him the dummy after feeds as was worried that he may not be finished feeding and didn't want to mask his feeding cues etc. But tbh, I think if it helps him settle, sod it. I am quite sure he is getting 'enough' with his feeds!

Am also going to express again this evening, in the hope for 3/4 hours sleep. That is all I need! Just a couple of unbroken hours! Haven't expressed in the last 4/5 days. Not sure he is going to be happy with it, but it's worth a try. And DP is on his last warning! I'll tell his mum if he doesn't get up without asking tonight!!

Have midwife appt and school christmas fayre tomorrow, so need to be up, showered and dressed by 11.30! That'll be a miracle!

YellowWellies · 05/12/2012 19:10

Sadly we double checked AFTER forcing an incorrectly large dose on the wee man. Thankfully he had the sense to spit most of it out. Am glad I questioned the logic of applying sugar syrup to my tits to treat thrush though....

ValiumQueen · 05/12/2012 19:17

I do not believe in evolution. If it was true, we would have very long nipples so we could just shove one in their gob, and just curl up in whatever position we wanted to sleep. Could also be useful for partners.

horseylady · 05/12/2012 19:27

Vq - I'd like to have unflat nipples :)

Ds is looking round at everything with complete and utter amazement :) and trying to lick most things too.....and crawl.....I've just had to tell him that 6 weeks is far far too young to try to crawl. He responded by headbutting me. Point proven.

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 19:33

Never too youn to try anything!

TheDetective · 05/12/2012 19:40

God my head is just so foggy, I can't remember my own name!

Just managed tea, baby is asleep. Going to chill for an hour before the feed starts again! Or for 5 minutes... whatever he lets me have!

Given he is grumbling in the basket, suspect it won't be long...!

In other news, my bastard shitting fucking washing machine just destroyed the load of baby clothes I put in it Angry Angry Angry. Fucking fuming! They are covered in massive black lines, all over! Me and DP just stood there and looked Shock like that.

The fucking thing is only 18 months old, it shouldn't be destroying washing!!!!

Hi all

Just to mark place really - first post on postnatal! I've been reading the last few days' worth, it's so brilliant getting all the chat and wisdom just as before the birth!

Sorry to hear about little ones with illnesses and colds and all sorts. Hope things start looking up soon for you all.

Things here aren't too bad - the big shadow at the moment is my mangled nethers which are now infected after a stitch came loose and there was a 'gape' - however, I'm glad this has been detected and I've got some antibiotics. I followed the golden rule of not having a look myself but I could tell something wasn't right!

James is feeding OK but never takes on enough to give me much of a stretch of sleep, which I suppose at his age is to be expected! DH is currently in the spare room and I'm in our room and we just sleep in the big bed together, he latches on when he murmurs and I generally manage to doze off like that but it's a pretty temporary solution. There's no way he's going in the moses basket at night yet, wasn't having that from the start! I'm thinking about investigating those add-on bits that you can put on the side of the bed if this situation continues.

DH still has a week of paternity leave. Then I have 8 days of having two children on my own - am dreading it already!!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 19:48

Lol at stunt great joke and Detecive have an image of you and mrdetecive looking like this Shockand has really amused me!

In other news......the foundations for our self old are being dug on Friday! Am so excited but trying to remain contained!

Thanks all for your reassurance about the hearing stuff it so helps. Thanks

TheDetective · 05/12/2012 19:50

Georgee, its a very similar story here! Except I have a DP in the bed with me... raaaah!

I've also looked at my poorly bits, don't bother! You will only wish you hadn't Grin.

I've been trying to look at it from a midwife perspective rather than acknowledging its my own car crash of a vagina! Blush

Luckily no infection for me, but just a crap stitching job!

TheDetective · 05/12/2012 19:52

There were also swear words as well as the Shock faces Sophia.

Am currently googling solutions while I treat the bastard thing to a service wash!

To be fair, we used the machine every other day before Oscar. It is getting 2/3 loads a day at the minute! Admittedly, 2 of the loads are very small ones! I like to wash the baby clothes separate!

StuntNun · 05/12/2012 19:58

Detective sometimes when I feed J I have to depress part of my boob with my finger or it covers his nose and he has to keep coming off to take a breath. Would doing that let you feed lying down?

OP posts:
TheDetective · 05/12/2012 20:03

I do that Stunt But sometimes that isn't enough for him, and I have to have fingers above and below... depends, not sure on what though!

Problem is on lying down, he can't latch. I have to lie on side, with him, and then use the arm that is nearest bed to hold boob, other hand to hold him. And I can't really let go of either without him coming off, or moving down the boob. And after a few minutes once the boob softens, I just can't get him back on that way anyway! And if you can imagine that position, its agony. Easier just to sit up! I can't prop myself up in the above position!

Quite sure its my boobs that is the problem, rather than him though!

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 20:03

Total area having a broken washing machine. I have never done so much washing in my life!

Actually, I popped on a wee reusable nappy today! How exciting. It looked very comfy I must say. It was an OSFA from little lambs. I have a dumb ass question though - should the booster go in the flap on the inside of the nappy or on the top? I tried it on the top. P had a bath ad had weed so we took the booster out. Could I just reuse the outer bit with a new booster then?

detective your boob rash looks horrendous. No advice I am sorry - I know nothing about scabby breasticke

horseylady · 05/12/2012 20:05

Detective - I was the baby clothes separately. Then. (today) I wondered why?! He's part of the family not some stranger!! His clothes are still separate. I think it's the whiteness which unnerves me.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/12/2012 20:06

Anyone else worry selfishly when LO sleeps too much during the day and especially the evening that the night is going to be hell?

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 20:10

Breasticles was what i meant to say obviously - stupid phone.

I am pretty shocked by your GP YW. Just as well you checked. Most of penny's medication gets spat back out again but I think as long as she rolls it around her mouth before doing that she should be fine.

sophia I am sure everything will be fine for your wee one. These things are awful though.

I am very conscious that I read the thread and miss out loads of stuff when I respond. I mostly take it in and frequently share things with DH but I forget to respond on here. So, sorry if I seem rude. Let it be known that I am fully engaged with what is being said.

Hi georgee!!

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 20:12

PR me! I woke penny today because I want her to sleep tonight. There is a happy medium though as an overtired baby helps noone.

What you need ladies is lots if multi-coloured clothes. None of my baby clothes are white anymore

horseylady · 05/12/2012 20:22

Pass - it's only really the vests I worry about. I do sometimes worry. Not for the night times (still trying to take each one at a time even though he's slept through the last two).

To be honest when he's asleep, there's no waking him. Same when he's eaten enough. Even if it's less than normal. I find it reassuring.

MissMummy1 · 05/12/2012 20:25

Quick question (will try and catch up properly later!) how soon can you give a dummy? Tilly is 2 days old and a very sucky baby. She's feeding lots, has hardly lost any weight so I'm happy she's getting enough, but she seems to want to use me as a constant soother. Or her clothes. Or her fingers. Or whoever whatever is near her! I was a thumb sucker as a child and caused lots of damage to my teeth because of it so would much prefer she had a dummy (we can always take it away).

Is now too soon to try her with one? I really don't want to interfere too much before bf properly established but want to express so dh can share feeding once my milk comes in fully (any advice on a good time to start that also appreciated!) so hoping she doesn't get nipple confusion either. She is also quite hiccupy and finger sucking seems to cure that so wondering if dummy would do the same thing?

Hmm sorry that probably doesn't make much sense. Hmm Basically is now too soon to give her a dummy and when should I start trying to express?
