vq I hope you get some rest. Be reassured that if his nappies are wet and he is pooing he is getting what he needs, vomiting when they are like this s just a method of getting rid of phlegm. The noises are terrible O is rattling away and grunting and sounds awful, then he suddenly goes quiet as a mouse and I'm peering into his cot like a madwoman!

We don't have a Home Bargins or a Wilkinsons here is a pain!

Peaky1 · 05/12/2012 06:09

Still trying to catch up! I think I'm at yesterday evening now.

My lad is in baby gros. I'm not sure why people seem to be arsed in what you dress your baby in?! Plus it's none of their business is it. You're not wafting them naked in freezing temps Grin. Does it matter so long as they're warm? My boy in in a mixture of new and car boot sale gros/vests! He told me he didn't care Wink

I have a Q for those of you using bottles. I breast feed and EBF and also use the tests for his colic medicine. I wash and sterilise the bottles with no probs but how do you guys dry the stuff after sterilising? I've been using kitchen towels and wonder if I'm doing the right thing? I'd also like to know how you get inside the teat dry as I can never reach properly.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/12/2012 06:30

PEaky, i might wipe the outside of the bottle with kitchen paper but I don't dry the inside or the teat.

LO slept until 7, but DD1 woke up at 5 demanding milk. The first time in weeks she wakes up at night and it's the day my DH is ill and in the spare room where he can wallow in peace.

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 05/12/2012 06:54

My LO whinnies like a horse! A v small one obv Smile And when she gets the hiccups she sounds like a little squeaky toy bless her.

Had a good night after a bad one yesterday - 4 and a half hours between the last feed! What a sear Smile She did cluster feed from about 9:30 til 11:30 tho

Hope all the poorly LOs are better today

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 05/12/2012 06:55

Star! Not sear!??! Shock

pikz · 05/12/2012 07:03

peaky I don't dry either. Just use them from the steriliser.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 07:31

peaky I no dry either.

X

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/12/2012 08:12

I don't dry anything from the steriliser either, I figured its very clean condensation anyway!

I have a Q for bf people- do you always feed LO when they fuss? I've got into the habit (just like I did with ds) of feeding dd when I know she's tired and not hungry. Not everytime but sometimes I know it's a very easy way of getting her to sleep.
Trouble is I did this with ds and it ended up being the only way he'd go to sleep at night/ indoors for naps for 15 months!

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 08:16

No drying here either.

Massive congrats to horsey on your MSc completion. Great achievement.

What's all this chat about huggies? We have hundreds of them a Costco were doing a deal.

horseylady · 05/12/2012 08:18

I'm far from perfect!! I just work hard. You make your own luck and success in life. I think you get out what you put in.

Ds slept 12 to 7 last night. Still snuffling away!! Coughing again too :( he's eating better though, still a bit sick after some feeds but that's just the mucus. He was loads better yesterday so hopefully he'll continue to improve!!

NervousAt20 · 05/12/2012 08:26

Glad your LO is improving VQ

Well done horsey I bet your over the moon

peaky I don't dry either

DH I can tell when my LO is fussing for food or if its something else so I feed her when she's hungry but if she don't want to sleep she won't

Damn there was loads more I wanted to say but my memory im hasn't come back from pregnancy yet

Went Christmas shopping yesturday LO was brilliant awake all day with a couple if 10 min power naps all day! John Lewis have a brilliant breast feeding room/area

Going to attempt transfer if fails DPs getting "accidentally" woke up then hell take LO down stairs

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 08:29

Glad he's on the mend horsey. I know mysf from having sinusitis that eating is pretty difficult.

You are right about the luck - it is amazing how much luckier people are when they work their socks off. I was trying to do an MSc alongside my work and had to give it up as I was finding it so hard to fit it all in. Anyone trying to do this is obviously a champion time-manager and extremely hard working. I liked going to the pub too much I think!

Well, today, p is rocking the primary coloured alphabet babygrow look. I am rocking the jammies look. She was sound asleep on her daddy's legs but having been put down she is now awake. Not for long I reckon though.

Oh, and as a rule unless p is soaked through I don't do night changes

StuntNun · 05/12/2012 08:29

If you are bfing and your baby vomits, they can actually have absorbed nutrients from the milk in between since breastmilk is digested so quickly.

We had a really bad night last night, J seemed to be in a lot of pain. I had a Birds Eye microwaved Tikka Masala for lunch yesterday and was wondering whether that could have given him stomach ache. It was only a small portion though so I'm not convinced it could do him much harm, it wasn't even spicy. No chance of a catch up today since Sainsburys are delivering this morning, I'm expecting parcels and I have a doctor's appointment. I think I'll have to start hitting the coffee. J slept in my arms for about 5 hours last night so I only dozed at best. He's normally pretty good about sleeping in his cot.

Chunkychicken · 05/12/2012 08:35

pass I've been using huggies with A despite using Pampers with DD (Pampers fit her better) but had an issue with them leaking last night. However, I got an email saying from spring 2013, they will no longer be sold in the UK and Ireland (not profitable). Wipes, pull-ups & little swimmers will still be available.

DH I feed A almost all the time he fusses, unless he has just finished feeding, in which case I'll wind or rock him. Last night he fell asleep in my sling/wrap thing as I was getting dinner, but most of the time he feeds to sleep. I think once I'm certain he's gaining weight well/tongue tie is sorted, I'll try to make him wait a bit.

peaky you're not meant to dry them. Try a vigorous shaking to get most of the water out.

VQ glad J is a bit quieter & hope he feeds well today to put your mind at rest.

It's snowing!!! Xmas Shock

kirrinIsland · 05/12/2012 08:53

DH I fell unto that trap with DD1 and she too fed to sleep till she was 13 months. I was determined to avoid that this time but I think I am failing - N was definitely using me as a dummy last night. I did eventually get her to settle without feeding but it took forever. I am contemplating giving her a dummy but I'm not sure if it's a bit early for that? Was also hoping to avoid dummies this time as DD1 still has hers at 2 and that was never the plan (!) but now I'm thinking anything for an easy life Grin

Those of you who are expressing - at what age did you start giving a bottle?

NervousAt20 · 05/12/2012 09:11

How do you stop LOs from using you a a dummy? Every night BabyN will feed on and off for a few hours but when she's stopped feeding she just wants to suck and fall asleep on te boob but the second I talk her off she starts shaking her head frantic searching for it and when she latche on e feeds for a couple of sucks then goes back to sucking for a dummy but she refuses the dummy completely

kirrin we gave LO her first bottle when she was almost 4 weeks then not another until 6 weeks and she struggled abit with it then so now were trying to give her one every couple if days

PetiteRaleuse · 05/12/2012 09:29

Nervous how is your DP? Is he recovering ok?

blonderthanred · 05/12/2012 09:38

So I'm scrolling back through the thread to see what I missed last night and this is what I see:

ChunkyChicken

Peaky you're not meant to dry them. Try a vigorous shaking to get most of the water out.

I was quite relieved when I continued reading to find out you were talking about sterilisers.

Chunkychicken · 05/12/2012 09:44

LOL blonder What did you imagine??!! Xmas Grin

Elizadoesdolittle · 05/12/2012 09:56

I have a question for those with poorly little ones (and I see there are quite a few unfortunately). E seems to have a cold, no snotty nose but a bit of a cough and sneezy. Yesterday lunch time she projectile vomited up her milk. There was loads of it! Since then she has been sick after every feed, sometime loads but its hard to tell how much stays in. Last night she slept for 6 hrs straight which is a lot for her. She's bascially been sleeping then feed then sick since yesterday lunch time. Shall I take her to the doctor? She still has wet nappies and had a poohy one this morning. I'm concerned as she has low weight gain anyway (am in same position as you lane) and obviously this isn't helping!

Hope all the poorly ones recover soon.

horseylady · 05/12/2012 10:04

Eliza - I went with ds when he had similar symptoms. He gave us nothing (expected) but he did go through what to look for if he was getting worse and when to go back. Plus giving ds a good look over. Just gave me and dh extra piece of mind.

Chunkychicken · 05/12/2012 10:17

When do babies stop feeding every 2hrs during the day??!!!

YW When you Googled green poo, what other reasons are there? Is wind one? A seems to have a greenish one every couple of poos. Will make sure to block feed if only short interval between feeds but he only goes about 2hrs at a time, so I could get quite lop-sided!!! :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/12/2012 10:20

Lol blonder that looks bad out of context!

kirrin ds never took a dummy and now he's 2.5 I'm glad I don't have a battle to take one away so would like to avoid using one with dd.
But I read babies like to suck to sleep wether it's a dummy/ boob so it's one or the other for a while I think.

Elizadoesdolittle · 05/12/2012 10:30

Thanks horsey she's sleeping loads and I can't get her to take the boob so I've expressed and managed to get 50ml which is unheard of. Will try and get that into her and see how we go. I remember when DD1 was poorly, she used to just shut down and sleep. Guess its their bodies way of recovering. I can't get an appt till later this afternoon so will see how she goes.

Chunkychicken · 05/12/2012 10:31

VQ just a quick thanks - the baby lotion squirt in water for wipes is great!! The wipes seem softer & get both DD & DS nice & clean. Don't know whether its coincidence or not, but DS's rash is clearing up nicely now too.
