DD is 15/7

re Amnesty - they can run but they cannt hide Grin.

DiamondsAreForever · 09/06/2006 16:34

Hi all,
Well, I had my scan this morning and had the shock of my life as baby has been given a 1:59 chance of Down's Sydrome from the Nuchal test, instead of a normal 1:690 risk. Now we have to decide on amnio and all the other horrible tests to see whether or not everything is OK. And there was me worrying about having another horrible birth. Oh well. I am trying to look on the bright side and hope that they just got it wrong.
Plus dd (26/7) has tonsilitis, the poor little thing- she has a stonking fever and is pretty miserable until she gets her paracetamol fix. All I want is a nice quiet life!!!

sorry for the tale of woe- please keep your fingers crossed for my littlest one! x

neena28 · 09/06/2006 16:40

We had a similar result with dd. I was gutted as I know a friend who lost a baby after the amnio. So it was a very big decision for us but in the end because we already had ds we felt it was better to know and be prepared.

The amnio itself wasn't painful just a little uncomfortable but I was very upset throughout.

We paid for the FISH test though so as we had it done on the Tuesday morning we got the results on the friday. Results were all good and we were very relieved. Ask your hospital if they do Fish (sheffield based lab) and do it that way if you can afford the £80ish, at least that way you don't have to wait up to 3 weeks for the results.

There are people on mn that have children with downs syndrome so I'm sure they can help you become more informed about it if you want to be.

Thinking of you, your family and especially the baby.

hub2dee · 09/06/2006 16:51

DOn't know your exact pg timing DaF, but the combined test (which involves nuchal plus bloods) gives a more accurate result than nuchal alone and that might be helpful. We had to do ours privately.

hoxtonchick · 09/06/2006 18:36

lots of love daf. what hard decisions to make. are you going to the homerton again?

mrsdarcy · 09/06/2006 18:45

Oh DaF, how worrying for you and your DH. And poor little DD. Thinking of you all. x

Bagpuss30 · 10/06/2006 08:08

Daf, we're thinking of you here too. I agree it is a difficult decision to make. We had the triple test with ds2 which was much more accurate than the double test we had with the other two. We didn't have a scan as part of the test though as our hospital said that the results were no more accurate than the bloods alone.

Eulalia · 11/06/2006 16:31

Thinking of you DaF.

DiamondsAreForever · 11/06/2006 20:47

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone- sorry to bring the tone of the thread down but it's good to let it all out!
And thanks for the private recommendations- we have looked into it and really, £130 to know for sure in two days rather than three weeks is well worth it, isn't it!

Anyway, hasn't this been the most gorgeous weekend on record? I have been very happily turning brown (well, pink) in my hammock while dd has been playing 'let's eat grass, it's such a great game'...

what is everyone else doing for first birthdays? I am also going all out for dd- she doesn't know it yet but she's getting one of those push along/ sit in car things- she's old enough for her first wheels I think!

Belo · 12/06/2006 16:54

Hello all. I haven't been on Mumsnet in absolutely yonks. Work has been manic and has taken over my life.

I'm going to catch up now and will post again later.

Belo · 12/06/2006 17:17

Oh DAF. Poor you. How distressing. Good luck with the tests.

MrsD has your dh been allowed out of the dungeon yet? And, how's the kitchen going?

Hello Neena. Your party sounds fab. Hub is right, hand out cards. I would employ you. Dd2s party (born 15/7) is going to be more for me and dh. We're going to be celebrating that we've survived the 1st year with 2 kids. dd2 is so excited and talks about it non stop. Its going to be quite low key. We'll probably invite our friends with kids 'round and get the paddling pool out. Weather allowing.

Dd2 now crawls at the speed of light. Loves steps and keeps attempting to go down them headfirst. Only 1 small accident so far.... She pulls herself to standing on whatever she can. The cat wasn't too impressed when she tried to use her. She's also starting to cruise around furniture. dd1 had been walking for several weeks though at this stage. But, must not compare.

As to talking we get 'Ca' a lot when the cat comes into the room of if we show her a picture of one. But, that's it.

All in all she's downright gorgeous and I don't want her to grow any more. I'm happy with her just as she is.

mrsdarcy · 14/06/2006 09:20

Hi Belo Smile. Yes DH is now out of his dungeon, and the kitchen is lovely. I am gradually bringing things down from the attic. It is so nice to have a kitchen again!

How are you doing, DaF?

DD is waking up at 5.30 at the moment, I guess it's the heat. So she's fallen fast asleep in the pushchair now - better carry on re-stocking the kitchen!

DiamondsAreForever · 15/06/2006 18:51

Hi all,
good to hear you're finally cooking again, Mrs D- if you get over-excited and bake too many cakes, you know where we all are!

Well, quick update from me, I had a CVS this morning and it really wasn't as bad as I had imagined, I am now feeling a bit sick and crampy but the consultant says that it was very straightforward and he was generally very encouraging. The Nuchal Fold has actually decreased by half (to 1.8mm) making it in the normal range, so I am very encouraged by that. Hopefully it was one of those things and nothing more serious. I should get a definitive result on Thursday so there'll be a few sleepless nights yet.

DD still has her rather nasty tonsilitis, making her cough and sneeze now- she has lost her voice a bit and is very sad about it, especially as her new favourite word is Daddy (good timing!). Other favourite words are Ib, Eb, mummmmmmm and Aiyyyyy! Makes perfect sense to me!

OK, better get back to bed and eat more cookies (doctors orders). x

Eulalia · 18/06/2006 09:03

DaF - well that is encouraging news. I hope Thursday brings even better news.

Belo -gosh you had an earlier starter with your dd1 and looks like your dd2 isn't too far behind.

I am too lazy/disorganised to get the house organised with stair gates. However ds2 will just crawl past the stairs between the bedrooms. He stops, peers down but doesn't attempt to go down them. Have had to get a proper harness tied into his pushchair though because as he's so small he just wriggles out and attempts to climb out of it.

All the kids have colds, dd the worst and ds2 has conjunctivitis too.

Oh and did I say we got a carer organised at last. Going to a soft play area this afternoon and it means I can relax and not worry about ds1.

Belo · 23/06/2006 08:45

Hello. My main news is here . dd1 has chicken pox, so dd2 will get it and we're about to go on holiday.... Feeling rather f*ed off at the moment as work has been so stressful and so has my trying to do it all life in the last 6 months.

Apart from the fear that dd2 will get chicken pox, she's doing great. Her cruising is getting more and more confident and she now does it with 1 hand. Shes having lots more attempts at talking. In fact, she hardly ever shuts up. Lots of lovely unrecognisable sounds which I keep meaning to record and my mobile and then use as a ring tone (or is that sad?).

MrsD, I'm glad that you're building chaos is behind you. We're 11 weeks into having a bathroom finished and I can't see it being finished in the next couple of weeks. At least its not in our living area. Our kitchen was going to be our next project, but I think we're going to delay it for a bit as that will involve walls going and lots of messy stuff. If it takes 11+ weeks to do a bathroom....

DAF, your news sounds positive. I'm glad to hear it.

Well, better go. dd1 is so irritable.

mrsdarcy · 23/06/2006 21:29

Poor DD2, Belo. Does that mean you're off work to play nurse? It's times like this that the whole system you set up when you go back to work, comes crashing down around you.

Eulalia, I hope your children are all feeling better. Conjunctivitis is horrid for little ones.

DaF - I guess you will have your results by now. I'm thinking of you. x

DiamondsAreForever · 24/06/2006 11:12

Hi again everyone- and great news! No Down's or any major chromosomal abnormalities, thank goodness- we've still got to wait for the full results and bloods, but it's all looking fabulous. Plus I have a serious bump- much bigger than last time! Time to make it public I think before people start to question my eating habits!
Now the reality of having two children under 2 is starting to hit me.... how do you all cope?!

I am v. jealous of all this crawling and walking- dd is still showing no signs of getting off her lovely behind- although she loves to stand up in my arms. I know everyone says 'any minute now' and 'make the most of it'- but I would really love her to get more mobile.
Plus I am going away for a week on business soon and she is staying at my Mums- and you just know she'll start to crawl when I am away and I'll miss it all! However, I am off to Spain and as I have planned the itinerary, have made sure we get a free morning in Barcelona- so will have plenty of shoe shopping time for when the little one is walking! and maybe a pair of shoes for me too as I have been so virtuous recently!

must go, dd is waking from a lovely deep sleep and it's time for more fun with stacking towers and bricks.

have a good weekend everyone and thanks for the kind thoughts x

mrsdarcy · 24/06/2006 23:26

That's great news DaF. You can get on with enjoying the pregnancy now

Bagpuss30 · 25/06/2006 21:09

Excellent news Daf! Are you tempted to find out what flavour the bump is?

Belo, poor you - hope things are looking up now after the weekend.

hoxtonchick · 26/06/2006 14:52

hooray for mini-daf! really pleased to hear your news .

we got back from a week in corsica last night. had a fabulous time, with my parents & brother & a swimming pool. dp & i even escaped by ourselves for the day (slightly ruined by me throwing up due to twisty mountain roads, but still.....). the children even have slight tans, despite being covered at all times in factor 50. i am now enjoying the peace & quiet in the office, the more sensible temperatures & the retail opportunities of oxford street.

dd is crusing really well now. she & ds played together by themselves in another room for about 15 minutes the other day. . it's her birthday on thursday (more ), but i've neglected to do anything so far. will definitely make a cake.

right, must do some work. hope you're all well.

Eulalia · 27/06/2006 10:58

Brilliant news DaF!

hc - nearly birthday time!!! Very very of your holiday.

This was my week last week but things seem to be going better this week.

Must dash as its the last week of term and busy trying to do things before I've got 7 weeks of children!!!

merryberry · 27/06/2006 19:16

Hiya, I'm with Belo back in mid-June: work ate my life. Plus a H2D like diet that has me energised and scampering rond everywhere. Yes to lunch H2D, we can eat dust unless computer says no (I am doing weighwatchers online with the ghost of little britain muntering in my mind).

Let's see, since I was last here the boy (7/7 as well neena, welcome) also had tonsilitis DaF, not too bad but lasted weeks so took him to docs for first time at 11 onths (cue VERY heavy suspicious q's from doc testing me for neglect! I can only imagine how quicklt they'd get p'd off if i'd taken him in for every cold and fever he's had!)

DaF I'm so glad you're enjoying your PG now.

Other news? Um, the boy crawls in such a funny punt-along way. Very vocal. Have to sort a new nanny in mid-August as our fantastic lady quits to have her first kid. Will do that after our holiday - Slovenia, Lake Bohinj mainly.

Looking forward to 1st b'day. Have a few local mums over on friday 7th for bubbles and cake. I've bought cava, have an outrageous good looking carrot cake recipe to try this w/e and invested in a gadget called the gazzillion bubblelator which is a battery operated bubble machine to amuse the babies. HC, H2D, other London mums you are very welcome, it's 2-6pm. Then family for lunch on saturday.

Ugh, really got to go and do some work now, xfx Hope to catch up sooner next time!

Happy Birthday Florence from us too .

neena28 · 29/06/2006 10:11

Thank goodness for that Daf. I remember the feeling of relief so well!

You're a friendly lot on this thread aren't you??!!

I haven't got that many friends in rl with lo this age most of my friends have kids the same age as my ds so it's great to hear what yours are all doing.
