Hi there!

Hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful weather over the last couple of days. It is days like this that make up for being a SAHM in the winter months! Feeling rather pleased with myself as I have been doing quite a lot of walking rather than catching the bus as the weather has been sunny. Got to try and tone up that baby belly as soon our babies will be a year. Hasn't the time gone so fast!

Merryberry - hope your juggling work/home life soon gets a bit easier and MrsD just keep thinking of the beautiful kitchen that you are going to end up with! We will all be very enviousEnvy

Sorry to hear of all the teething probs. Harry tends to get a bit ratty and clingy the day or so before the teeth come through although he has only got 2 on the bottom but I think I can see the top front ones coming through too. I tend to try anything - teetha granules, bonjella, nurofen and also just giving him some chewy bread which he likes to bite on - it seems to help. DS1 was a complete mare with his teeth so so far with H it hasn't been too bad.

Still quite enjoying going to the playgroups again and H just loves the happy clappy singing -not so sure that his mother knows all the moves as yet!

Have a great weekend!

xx

Hello all - its back to being freezing here after a couple of lovely summerish days. dd ran about the garden naked and ds2 got his first taste of a paddling pool! :)

ds2 now has 3 1/2 half teeth and... (I know you will hate me) has like his bro & sis no problems with them. Just the first one he was bothered with and the others are just sliding in with nothing more than a bit of drool. He is now pulling himself up onto his feet all the time and crawling everywhere far too fast.

hub - Shock at you peeling grapes! :) I find I have so little time with ds2. He's still not taking much off the spoon or eating much at all but have come to a compromise of making some sticky mush which I let him feed himself with off the spoon, alternating spoons in between running after the other two and to supplement that he gets finger food. He did quite well with mackeral sandwiches at teatime yesterday as the fish is quite firm for little fingers (had to have a bath afterwards though! :) )

Have you tried sliced advocado?

Belo - I can't imagine working full time - I am surprised you even have time to come on here to talk to us!

Hope things improve soon on the washing machine front Mrs D - have you got a neighbours you can borrow?

Must go as I am writing an essay here and ds2 is dragging stuff out from under the desk.

hub2dee · 14/05/2006 09:57

Well, the skin is rather hard to mash with gums, LOL... but now I think the party is over and she is just having to deal with grapes with skins, poor kitten. Wink

She loves avo. Great big slobbery, hard to pick up chunks !

Smile

Not sure I posted already, but she had a sardine purée thingy the other day (with mased potato and milk maybe, dw made it)... ate it all, despite the shtink !

Cream cheese on pita is being warmly received.

mrsdarcy · 14/05/2006 22:06

I've just gone in to see (shouting) DD and she was standing up im her cot! Her crawling has really come on in the last few days as well and she is zooming all over the place.

A new tooth is just peeping through so yes, her recent crankiness was teething.

I am using my father's washing machine Eulalia, so it really isn't too bad Smile

Hub, DD likes strawberries, too. She loves sweet potato but I am being careful not to give them to her too often. I made that mistake with carrots and DS2 and turned him orange! She likes rasberries too. She'll give steamed brocolli florets a good slurp but not sure how much actually goes down her. Cream cheese sandwiches are nice and easy, and calorific too. She isn't getting much variety atm (kitchen, blah blah) but seems to be doing ok on it. She drinks water from a cup with a lid (no valve, just little holes - one of the Tommee Tippee ones) and gets quite a lot down but likes to let it dribble out of her mouth when she's had enough.

What are the rest of you doing about babies in the sun? I have been using a sun hat (which often gets thrown off) and E45 sunblock for children. Despite this, after a few hours outside the other day (in a fairly shady garden) she came out in a splodgy heat rash, so I have started putting her in a babygro on sunny days.

Right, I'm blithering. Really must start doing something useful...

hub2dee · 15/05/2006 08:51

Wow ! Great news on the standing raging babba, mrsd !

Some friends of ours have been 5 weeks without a kitchen. We had them over loads in the last month, LOL... maybe you could get overly friendly with some neighbours, or give old friends a shout ? Smile

Didn't know about the Tango-man effect re: sweet potato and carrots ! Will go easy on them. Maybe butternut squash would be one to try !

dd likes to rip off her sun hat / bonnet thing, (it's got those velcro straps), but usually she is very good about wearing it.

We use Rite Aid Baby 45 suncream, ith - no reaction yet... maybe it was just the inital exposure IYSWIM and she will be less reactive after a few more ?

mrsdarcy · 15/05/2006 09:55

Yes, I tend to stand around the playground looking sad and hungry and someone usually offers to take me in, and the boys have had lots of playdates. All very heartwarming stuff.

I hope the heat rash thing will lessen as she gets used to the heat. We are all very fair-skinned (Celtic!) so the odds are rather stacked against her, poor little mite.

Will give tinned sardines a try on the next dry day. Can't really face them in our temporary dining room which is now sticky and smelly, and sardines would make me barf Grin. Lots of lovely protein for DD though.

hub2dee · 17/05/2006 10:40

Sardines do occupy the twilight zone between delicious and vom-inducing, I agree... (and I haven't ate them for 15 years LOL).

webwoman05 · 17/05/2006 13:29

Interesting hearing about some more ideas for our little ones food wise. Must try out the smelly old sardines and the cream cheese too - not together! H seems to love finger food - he adores courgettes lightly cooked as finger food and eats rice cakes like they are going out of fashion!

V impressed with all the crawling and now standing babies - H is just flipping over and rolling - he seems to get about now so not really worried as such although his big brother was already crawling by 8 months and he was a premmie but as everyone keeps saying they all do things in their own time!

merryberry · 17/05/2006 14:32

hmmmmmmm, if i stand around the gray's inn road looking sad and hungry i'll get taken in for an entirely different experience:)

either by the police or a nice man in a car.

It's so kind that people give strangers lifts these days, mb....

lol.

Bagpuss30 · 18/05/2006 16:18

Hi all, ages since I last posted - we have been busy with one thing or another so I haven't had many chances to post.

ds2 is now standing up in his cot too Smile. On the food front he enjoys penne pasta with any sort of pasta sauce on it and his habit for apple flavour rice cakes may cause us to go bankrupt Grin. Halved segments of satsuma also go down a treat.

Haven't really got much other news. Can't believe that July is so close now. I wish ds2 could be a baby for a little longer and I am incredibly broody at the moment much to dh's disgust.

Mrsd, I have been a little over the top with sun protection - Boots factor 50+ sun cream, a hat and either a parasol on the little buggy or a full UV sun mesh on the three wheeler. ds2 has not been impressed really and managed to take both the mesh cover and the parasol off both pushchairs in a matter of minutes Grin.

mrsdarcy · 18/05/2006 21:23

Hub and MB, you aren't standing around in the right places are you? Grin.

Good on your DS2, Bagpuss!

Eulalia · 21/05/2006 08:59

Hello all. Busy just now doing ds1's renewal forms for DLA which is like writing a small book. As if I've not got enough to do. ds2 is so much work reaching up and pulling things now. due to our temporary/permantish kitchen arrangements ds1 and dd often eat at a small camping table - just theright height for ds2 when standing and he managed to pull a bowl of pasta and sauce down off it.

I've not really bothered with sun protection so far. ds did sit out for a bit on those couple of nice days, not long enough to burn him of course but he has olive skin and now looks very very slightly tanned, a lovely peachy colour. actually you shouldn't cover them permantently with high factor as it can disrupt the skin's vitD production.

I think he may be eating a bit more now. I met an acquaintance and her baby boy (3 weeks older than mine) is being referred to the hospital because he is so big, right off the scales which must make him somewhere around 19Kilos! It was weird seeing the two babies together.

Its so cold and showery here at the moment. Definately need a holiday. In fact a bit fed up as I've not been away anywhere since our break last Oct and am totally bored with the parks/indoor play areas round here. Someone send me some summer weather please!

mrsdarcy · 23/05/2006 14:30

Do you have any holidays planned, Eulalia? We don't atm - all our time/money is given to builders.

We all went to a children's concert at the Philharmonic on Sunday. It was so lovely. DD giggled and clapped all the way through it, with the odd break to chew on DH's tie.

She has got her 2 top teeth now and keeps grinding them against the bottom ones. It's such a terrible noise. Her sleeping is still pretty bad but her room has been plastered now so as soon as I can organise some curtains I can move her in. Maybe in time for her 1st birthday Blush

merryberry · 24/05/2006 09:12

aaaaah Eulalia, I remember the days when that sun thing could warm you up and make you go a nice colour. called summer, isn't it? ho hum. I can't get anything dry. I loathe tumble dryers usually, but the last two weeks I'm starting to see some merits. My house is constantly draped in slightly damp stuff. It dries to slightly damp really fast, then stays there...

We are thinking about summer holidays, specifically self-catering on the dutch coast cos we fancy swimming and cycling, safely. But if I see another cruddy website with crudy search capabilities I will go mad. So having a break from planning that so far.

I feel like such a spare part at work. Anyone get that? I need some nice work to do, not the crumbs from everyone else's desks. Stale crumbs - all the stuff noone else can stand.

hi all
hope all our babies are doing well. not long 'til they're 1 Shock. dd has decided that steps are fun now, & yesterday climbed from the basement of our house to the top floor (4 flights of stairs). ds & i shadowed her, but she did it all herself... more Shock. she also sometimessays something which sounds like "die DIE" when waving goodbye which dp & i are convinced is bye bye. and sometimes even herrrrro when she sees someone. japanese perhaps? god, suppose i better do a bit more work before i fall asleep. happy bank holiday :).

Eulalia · 27/05/2006 10:22

Hello - its quiet here. Well done on the talking HC, it certainly sounds like it.

Well I got all the forms done and felt quite drained but cheered up immensly as my sister & BIL were able to look after two of the kids yesterday evening and we went to a retirement do at a greek restaurant. took ds2 and he was really good and quite the star of the show. We left just as people were dancing on the tables.

MB - have resisted tumble driers for years but finally caved in with 5 of us and lack of space and we did get one abuot a month ago. They are so much better nowadays - much cooler and energy efficient. Even then I don't always use it and economise by doing two washes, hanging out some heavy stuff and putting the rest in the drier.

MrsD - no holidays planned - we'll probably go away in October as the schools here get 2 weeks of then. Just hope we get some sun in the meantime.

Bagpuss30 · 27/05/2006 17:49

Hahaha, cheeky ds2 has learnt where the on/off button on the tv is. I don't know whether I should be Grin or Blush.

I was meaning to ask about talking HC, as ds2 says "duck, quack, quack" when he plays with the toy ones in the bath - it is very sweet Smile.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Ours is quiet. DH has taken ds1 to Soccer Aid and I took dd and ds2 to John Lewis for some retail therapy. Just about to feed the two of them then I can settle down for the evening.

Speaking of holidays, I am trying to persuade DH to book Bedruthan Steps at the mo - not having much luck though Sad.

DiamondsAreForever · 28/05/2006 10:47

Hi everyone, long time no post! I have been pretty sick for a few weeks now, I had to go to hospital for tests to rule out meningitis and pneumonia but luckily all were ruled out. I couldn't have a head scan because I'd otherwise give birth to a radiation baby at Christmas, so I have large doses of antibiotics and hopefully that'll do the job. I have been so pathetic, I have been in bed for most of the week and am only really up today as my Mum has come down to look after her dd and gd (and my dh as he always responds to a bit of pampering too) and a quick sausage sandwich later and I can face the computer!
So just wanted to say hello and check into the land of the living- hope all the mums, dads and babes are fabulous this bank holiday!
catch up soon, cough cough! xx

mrsdarcy · 29/05/2006 21:16

That sounds horrible, DaF although you sound your usual chirpy self. I hope you're better soon and that the baby is ok (and DD too!).

Eulalia · 30/05/2006 10:52

Get well soon DaF!

mrsdarcy · 30/05/2006 22:25

woohoooo! DD slept through the last 2 nights AND has had a good nap in her cot during the day. She has obviously read the right baby books!

hoxtonchick · 31/05/2006 19:44

hope you feel better daf :).
Envy to you mrsd! dd's sleeping is crap. i can't be bothered to sort it out though.... and just cannot leave her to cry, way too soft.

Bagpuss30 · 01/06/2006 08:27

Get well soon form us too Daf Smile.

Well done on the sleep Mrsd - ds2's is patchy atm, I think it is probably teeth again.

Half term going well here, although I fear today may be a trial as it is raining again. ds2 has learnt to crawl properly at long last too.

Eulalia · 01/06/2006 13:07

Envy at all you late walkers.

Great news Mrs D :)

ds has just turned 10 months and still fits into his carrycot! He doesn't sleep in it obviously, not since about January but he could do. I need to put it away and don;t really want to give it away, I just wish my sister would hurry up and get pregnant.

Well wish me luck as I am off to get ds weighed this afternoon.
