Yes indeed webwoman I do have a twin what a good memory you have. dh and I are thinking of having belated birthday party this year instead (he turned 60 a month after me). It will be our (ahem) 100th party combined! Grin

Enjoy the singing - I am sure your ds will!

Have just started a boring thread about solid food on the weaning thread but can't be bothered to worry about it really. Just amazes me that there is so much differing advice around on how/what/when to feed your baby.

ds1 back to school today. Must get dd and ds2 dressed now.

merryberry · 02/05/2006 11:54

Oh daf, you lucky woman, congratulations!

i am back at work today, it's ok! didn't cry and am not worried about ds and nanny. havea nice view over the inns of the courts to crystal palace and the air con works and people are being nice and i've no work today!

like the sound of the holiday despite the sleep upsets web woman. hope to book one soon for us in august. just to east angular, mind.

anyone else watching house of tiny tearaways? i am transifxed by the elderly mr larkin-smith, known in our house already as mr farkin-smith. ooh he gets under my skin. off to hunt out eulalia's weaning thread. xx

How was your first day back MB?

DD had a really good nap this morning (usually we just get reluctant catnaps) and she was a delight for the rest of the day, so I am convinced (today's sleep-deprived, looking-for-answers theory) that if she gets more, higher-quality sleep, she will return to being her lovely self.

The boys were at home today too (INSET day) and we all had such a lovely time Smile. Hope you all had good days too.

hoxtonchick · 02/05/2006 20:18

my dd is a catnapper too, mrsd, drives me mad. i've convinced myself that when ds goes to school in september the day will be mor structured around dd & she'll therefore sleep for 2 hours after lunch. lets see.........

took them both swimming today. the wave machine was a big hit!

mrsdarcy · 03/05/2006 12:01

I'm in heaven - DD slept in her own bed all night with only 2 feeds, and she is having a lovely nap now. And there is a new coffee shop/deli opened round the corner, and I'm about to go for a walk on the beach in the sunshine. So that's my Pollyanna moment for the day Grin

Belo · 03/05/2006 12:18

Well done MrsD! Its sunny down here too and its making me feel sooo happy.

dd2 is now crawling everywhere. Yesterday she crawled under the bed in our bedroom and got stuck while dh was looking after her. He heard her crying, but it took him a while to work out where she was!

HC, you're brave going swimming with 2 on your own. I haven't attempted that yet.

MB,hope work continues to go well. I seriously think that working is so much easier than being at home. I have so much respect for all the full time Mums.

DiamondsAreForever · 03/05/2006 14:47

Hi all,
well, I'm off work with my bad back flaring up again. I went to see my physio yesterday and apparently it's all the hormomes again making it worse. I can't walk very far and am very uncomfortable. Still, I am still trying to exercise- I can hobble to the kettle and have placed my first ever ocado order due to the very annoying radio ad that has got under my skin. I have ordered a bag of mini chunky kitkats to cheer me up. well, they are only mini ones so that's OK.
I can see myself getting enormous this time!!
thanks for all your good wishes, I am still in a state of shock and not very excited yet. Plus I am already convinced it's a boy and can't think of any boys names that I like apart from lovely welsh ones (as I am a welshie) but dh is putting his foot down!
We are now having talks about leaving London after ds/dd2 has arrived- I think I will need to be near family with two tiddlers. So it's all change for us!
Glad to hear that little H slept well, Mrs D- we are yet to have a full night so send some of your sleepy vibes my way!
anyway, better get back to my sick bed- I might be missing Murder She Wrote or similar daytime treats...

Eulalia · 03/05/2006 19:24

Mrs D - hooray! :)

Belo - had to laugh I am afraid. Our ds has already got a few wee bruises and scrapes from his escapades.

DaF - hope you feel better soon or is this likely to carry on throughout the pregnancy. What will the age gap be between yours?

Had to laugh at ds1 - he was standing on our bathroom scales and points at the two different measurements - "this one is to tell you how fat you are, and this one is to tell you how old you are". Grin

mrsdarcy · 03/05/2006 20:27

Poor you DaF. I hope the kitkats help Smile. Are you going to join an ante-natal thread? If you do, please carry on telling us all about it so we can be vicariously pregnant with you Smile

DD has started clapping really nicely - she actually makes a noise, it's so sweet. I don't take her to any activities apart from swimming but I think she might start enjoying a few things now. I'll probably wait until September as she's still a bit little and summer will be a no-no. There is a church at the end of our road that has Tumbletots and some sort of baby singing class too.

What does everyone else do about activities with their LOs? And baby friends? I guess I'll go on the hunt for baby friends for her too Smile

Oh I SO hope she sleeps well again tonight. The last 2 days have been so wonderful.

hoxtonchick · 03/05/2006 21:01

i don't really do activities with dd mrsd. she has 2 days a week at nursery & an older brother - i reckon that's all a girl could want.... luckily quite a lot of my friends have babies similarish ages so she has mates to chase. am intending to go to a couple of groups with her in september too. but we will mostly be spending the summer at our brand new lido :o.

must buy dd a girlie swim nappy, everyone thought she was a boy at swimming yesterday as she was wearing ds's cast offs.

merryberry · 04/05/2006 10:12

oooh, hc we'll have to try your new lido later in the year as well!

sorry you're feeling such pain daf. i hope it eases with a rest.

with activities, knowing no other babies, we do a gp clinic mum and baby group, that hub2dee has been to with us and rhyme time on a wednesday at the local librray. ds goes with his lovely nanny to those now. today we are trying out a group in a grden in camden square. ds is still stationary so i'm waiting for movement before we get to try the highly recommned local baby gym. haven't taken him swimming because the pool at kentish town is so manky. and i'mnot fussy, it really is that manky.

it is lovely to be off with him again today. last night when i got home he was concentrating on me so hard we played two huge games of peekaboo (him holding the towel) and tongue poking. it was wonderful.

Belo · 04/05/2006 10:23

I like the sound of your lido too HC. Maybe we can have a mini meet up there later in the summer???

Eulalia · 04/05/2006 10:47

Haven't done much with ds2 yet. There's a mums and toddler group I've been to a few times and will return to that on a more regular basis. There's another one but haven't decided what to do about that as it clashes with dd's (playgroup and nursery after the summer). He gets taken out at the weekends swimming or the park with the other kids and they are constantly playing with him so that's enough I am sure.

Taking him to Asda now - how exciting. :) Had a panicky moment there last time - his foot got stuck in the side of the trolley seat. He's so small that with seats/highchairs etc he just slips down side ways or gets stuck ... maybe just put him in the baby seat but its boring as it lies back and he just has the ceiling to look at.

hoxtonchick · 04/05/2006 15:16

am definitely up for a london fields lido meet up later in the summer. it doesn't open until july though! but the next door paddling pool does, & is probably better for the babies.

hub2dee · 04/05/2006 15:29

hi mb - thanks for the techy phone e-mail.

mrsd - Arabica in similar situation re: your pg \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=6162&topicid=49&threadid=170002\here}.

mrsdarcy · 04/05/2006 22:34

Thanks v much Hub Smile. I've posted and CATed her.

merryberry · 09/05/2006 13:05

uh-oh, novelty over being back at work. am now feeling whacked out by having to concentrate so hard, and make things work over just three days! hope it gets better, or i'll be after a job stacking shelves in a nice dark corner.

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 09/05/2006 13:11

oh you poor love. i found it very hard going back after having ds (positively relish the break now i've got 2!). make sure you're only working the hours you have to, & do nice things at lunchtime. come & see me!

mrsdarcy · 11/05/2006 12:46

Hope you're feeling happier at work, MB.

DD decided that a few days of reasonable sleep pattern was quite enough, and has reverted to regular waking up and eventually ending up with me (ok, I have to take some responsibility for that bit!).

I think she must be teething, or uncomfortable somehow, as she seems to spend an awful lot of her time screaming hysterically at the moment. The does the full monty - hysterical screaming, archied back, flinging herself all over the place. Poor little mite.

The poor builders can't get a coherent word out of my and I am extra scruffy as we now have no washing machine.

merryberry · 11/05/2006 15:29

thanks me dears. i was ok the next day after some sleep. not much mrsD dont be jealous. in fact today i am up the other end of the worrit spectrum where i am missing the chance to think coherently abuot stuff. bit hard to wind into my baby life again after three straight days of desk hunching at chancery lane.

hc, i have three mtgs this monday and two the one after. as soon as i see one clear i'll skive in your direction.

when is the end nigh mrsD? being without my white goods especially the WM is something i have coldsweated nightmares aobut.

OP posts:
mrsdarcy · 11/05/2006 18:38

I've had the washing machine and dishwasher throughout the whole project so far, this is the first week I've been without them. I got a phone call today from the kitchen people saying that they can't start on Monday and (for boring reasons) can't give me a new date Shock. This is the first time in the past few months I have been really truly sick of it and on the verge of tears.

hoxtonchick · 11/05/2006 20:20

oh how grim mrsd :(. hope it's resolved soon.

mb, i have a biiiiiiiiiig deadline for the end of may, so beginning of june might be better. have you got my work e-mail?

hub2dee · 11/05/2006 22:21

Sorry your kitchen supplier is being a big ass, mrsd. Would hassling them like a raving banshee achieve anything ?

dd has (finally) cut a tiny bit of her first tooth. It is sharp and barely visible. She is most indignant at my efforts to have a sneaky look, shaking her head and scrunching up her mouth in abject disgust at my interest, LOL. She has also started to push herself backwards on her tummy though is still very unsure about the whole locomotion / displacement thing.

How are we all doing food-wise with the babbas ? dd loves grabbing handfuls of grated apple and shnuffling them down. She loves scooping up great big strawberries and usually doesn't choke (often I rip them into two or three more manageable lumps)... we gave her bread relatively recently too, she'll gum that and eat it fairly nicely, though the last big mouthful she manages to stuff in her face (of more or less anything) is always a bit stressful as she seems to struggle a bit. I peeled bits of grape for a while but now give her them quartered without being arsed to remove the skin...

Anything else I could / should try ?

She will also drink from a sippy cup, but this involves some quite violent movements and lurches at spout-to-mouth connection.

Not too long till July, eh....

Belo · 12/05/2006 08:36

Oh MrsD, poor you. I don't know what's worse. Lack of sleep or no dishwasher/washing machine. And to be without all 3! DD does sound like she's teething. What are you giving her? At nighttime we dose dd2 up on powder and calpol and have a really ice cold teething ring to hand if its needed. Doesn't always work, but sometimes does. I hope it gets better soon.

dd2 has just got her 4th tooth. Each time she gets a new tooth she gets awful nappy rash. Her bottom is in a sorry state at the moment. I and the nursery use washable nappys on her which seem to help as the HV thinks dd2 may have an allergy to the gel in the nappies. But dh refuses to use them, or take them into the nursery when its his turn to drop off. He hates them. He's so frustrating at time.

MB, I think the hardest thing about going back to work is doing the same amount of work in shorter hours. It really adds to the stress of the job. I work full time, but I can no longer work late as I have to pick up the kids. It makes the days so much more stressful. I dream of a job with no stress. I often think of looking something which is less demanding. I hope it gets easier for you soon.

Better go, work to do....

mrsdarcy · 12/05/2006 10:10

Thanks for the sympathy! Hub, the problem is higher up the supply chain and I think the kitchen company are as surprised as I am, and are genuinely doing all they can to sort it out.

Also, bit cynical, but I think this is a situation where I'll achieve more by being nice and reasonable than by being ultra forceful (which I'm perfectly happy to do if necessary!).

They have also said that they will come and fit a temporary sink and worktop, and plumb in the dishwasher and washing machine, so that will help a great deal.

Belo, I use powder which doesn't seem to be making any difference. I'll pick up a teething ring today and some extra calpol and go in all guns blazing tonight. She is waking up very early, to add insult to injury so I'll let her sleep as much as she wants this morning and try to keep her busy in the afternoon.

The employed amongst you have my sympathy. I found it difficult working PT before we moved up here, and can't imagine doing it now. You know the answer - move oop north where things are cheaper!
