Nova and BoB - am I bovvered......Wink

Jen - Sorry I should have taken a photo of you... was too busy trying to chin wag with everyone!

ChaCha - Yes! IME teething produces truly evil smelling poo.....

novadandypowder · 20/04/2006 16:08

is it crazy of me to suggest the London mums try to get together for an evening dinner so we can have a proper chat???? tell me I'm insane for even thinkingit...

babyonboard · 20/04/2006 16:33

I feeel soooooo much better after this..not only has he gained 7oz since tuesday....wooooh!... (though could be down to normal fluctuations) ...but... i had a great talk with h.v. not just about O but about other concerns that I feel are affecting me day to day.

She was amazing, and has given me her mobile number for when we have concerns (a lifesaver as the usual health visitor number is always an answerphone and they never respond to messages)

Nova- thanks for mentioning surestart, i asked and there is loads going on around here, someone is coming to see us tomorrow morning and explain it all. (hope I get goodies..my friend tells me she got a box of chocs and bathsalts..lol)

Chacha - something that may interest you..my h.v said maybe I started O on the faster flow teats too suddenly , she says it may make him gasp and pull away too much which tires him out more than sucking (tbh he has done this but i assumed he was just greedily gulping too hard Blush )and thats why he pulls away from bottles and often doesn't want them.(tellingly he takes water from his slow drip cup when he won't have milk)
she said it may still be too fast if he is in the habit of very slow feeds.. so i have bought some 1st stage flow teats again and will try with those.

I'm also toying with the idea of stopping the weaning again if the teat issue isn't the answer. ..(second false start)....
is this a mistake? i don't want to confuse him/his system but it does seem that maybe he's not ready yet

goldenoldie..you mentioned getting a cleaner..We have decided instead to get the laundry service i have mentioned before, and a childminder for one day..I actually find tidying/scrubbing down the bathroom tiles etc quite therapeutic somtimes..i can just get absorbed and let my mind wander...it's the laundry that really messes up the house ( and Iabhorr)so this will help no end.

sorry for such an utterlly self absorbed post..just thinking about all this stuff and wanted to get it all out.....i know some of you often do it and i guess you're the same as me....

babyonboard · 20/04/2006 16:37

ooh nova..xposts
unbelievably i was about to mention that..but tought you may not allwantto.. we should get the d.h's to babysit and all meet up for a proper girlyevening..it would be fab!
for example, when i meet with tex I feel like we could have expanded so much more onthe non-babyconversations but then they areright there..so it's hard not to get back to baby talk ..lol

Diege · 20/04/2006 16:42

LOL BROWNIE about my mirrors Grin. Just forgot to look in wing mirrors enough when changing lanes etc... Blush; just thought it was ironic that you had warned me beforehand and I still didn't look enough!
Libby seems to be OK. She took 2 ounces of milk earlier, and had a few sucks of juice just now, so at least she's keeping something down. Tucked up having a snooze just now; don;t stick to GINA when they are ill Grin, quite nice actually...
Really peed off with work; checked my account balance today and they haven't paid me. MY smp ended on 7th April, then it was back onto full wages (had holidays to take). Had checked several times that they understood, but you know when you have this feeling in the back of your mind that it's just not going to happen??!!! Sooo mad, as I have direct debits that are not going to happen Blush.
CHACHA: LOVED bev hills too; we must be around the same age Smile; have sneaky watch of OC too, though I have to admit it';s HollyOaks that's my secret indulgence!! Grin.
BOB: hope the clinic went better; let us know how you getb on with the nice HV Smile; lol at 'concertina effect'; think my rolls are slightly thicker; def. know what you mean about dresses Smile.
Catherine, I mean LONDONER Grin, I will always think of you as Mary (remember, William and Mary??Grin. I actually thought a slight look of Darcy Bussell around the eyes (bet you're feeling really self conscious with all this attention)!! Smile.
NOVA: yes, I have to admit like RODEO that I took 'falling asleep in dh's arms' as a polite way of saying RNBA!!!! Let us know when you test Grin

Diege · 20/04/2006 16:45

BOB, hv sounds brill!, and what a good weight gain Smile. Just a thought, maybe try variflow teats, so you can switch from slow to med to fast as suits? (they were a god-send for us) Smile.

ChaCha · 20/04/2006 17:02

Final check-in for the day.

BoB - Yup that's the one! Don't get me started .. 'I don't really cha cha cha cha cha!' Oh and if it's an oldie don't mind me, am not really up to date on what's what Blush
Speaking of which my friend's 10 year old DS was singing something from 'Madagascar' and was shouting 'I like to move it move it...' My gosh - Got very excited telling him about how I used to dance to that but he looked a bit shy and realised I must be ancient to him - oh, and not very cool! Hmmm!
Can't help myself but reminds me again of when he sang 'Come on, it's your birthday!' and I thought it was a really sweet b'day song.

I agree with you that cleaning can be very therapeutic sometimes but when it's on your own time, i.e. no imminent arrival of guests/friends/family or grumpy baby/DH in background etc.

I like entertaining at home. We've done it since being married. I've learned to be more laid back about it though since baby. We had two sets of friends over on Friday afternoon before going away, one with three little girls ranging between 3 and 7 and the other with newborn and 3 year old. Thought it was going to absolute mania, but surprisingly had lovely relaxing afternoon with the other mums helping to load dishwasher, make tea etc.. We just stuck a load of pizzas in the oven and used paper plates/cups and were able to have a decent conversation, even if it was baby based Wink

Right then, Having a spiritual get-together later. Hope i didn't bore 'BIG' pants off anyone.

Diege - Hope financial situation gets sorted. That sucks!

ChaCha · 20/04/2006 17:05

Ohhhhh, before I forget BOB - Z didn't enjoy new teats at first, was gulping so fast DH thought he was going to choke, mus tgo he is screammmmingl. x

babyonboard · 20/04/2006 17:14

chacha you culdn'tposibly meanthee onethat goes somethinglike 'come on its your birthday,we're gona sip bacardi like it's your birthday!?'lol
my aunts ds was singing that lately..lol..reminds me of that ww3 tune mentioned on here..teeheee..what a cliche but kids say the funniest things...

Rodeo · 20/04/2006 18:13

Evening :)

Well done with your test Diege! Sounds like you did really well! How crap of your work though Angry my sis was expecting a bump in her wages last month (and had already spent it in her head) and she didn't get it, accounts didn't put it through on time!

Bob, that's great about the 'new' HV, will she be your HV from now on? Let us know about any exciting freebies you get!

Chacha, hope you have a lovely evening, you do sound very chirpy today!

Had a bit of a breakthrough with the beaker today! Instead of the usual pathetic chewing of the spout she had a good few gulps Grin! Hurray!!! Think she almost had a whole ounce!!

Hope Libby gets better, poor little thing :) J is a lot better now, although MIL annoyed me today saying I should take her to docs as she's had her cold for weeks! She hasn't, she did have a cold a few weeks ago and didn't get rid of her snuffles completely before getting this one. She doesn't really like the fact I tend to let virus's run their course, but of course if I was worried I would take them to the docs. My doctor told me that colds can take up to 6 weeks to completely get out of your system, but of course when I tell MIL this she looks at me like I'm making it up! Grrr! Sorry Diege, that turned into a bit of a me post Blush

Me and Lau are going out for a meal with our Dad tonight for a joint birthday treat :) So I'd better get going x x x

Diege · 20/04/2006 19:20

Hey RODEO it's not your birthday is it? Or is it your sister's? Have a lovely meal anyway Smile. LOL at your MIL - recognise that 'are you making that up' expression from my own Grin.
Bit worried about Libby actually Sad She brought up entire 7 oz bottle, so nothing has stayed down today (the earlier 2ozs came up too). I know this isn;t worrying in itself, but I have a thing about dehydration. Can't get anything into her at all now, she's flaked out poor thing. Just going to leave her now till morning, and start all over again. Soft spot seems OK, and she's alert, but I do worry Sad. Nappies have not been totally dry (a small wee in each) so somthing's getting through I hope.
CHACHA agree, you do sound chilled and happy; sounds like you're haveing a nice few evenings Smile
Right, girls in bed so time to catch up on Grazia Blush. BTW, RODEO, you know the ww3 thing, did Bella read it in GRAZIA???? (just a guess Grin)Oh and going to open mini-Boden parcels (not quite so exciting as FC, but hey a girl has to have some excitement!!)
Diege Smile

novadandypowder · 20/04/2006 19:32

Diege - no, I really did mean falling asleep in DH's arms Blush, and the breakthrough is that it's the first night not in the nursery as Nat has been having a few night wakings recently so I've stayed up there with her rather than traipse up and down stairs all night.

BoB - that all sounds really positive Smile I got some bath smellies, a scented candle and a sippy cup from Sure Start.

OP posts:
Londoner · 20/04/2006 20:49

Actually you're right Nova - I am upset by that comparison, I thought your delivery a little thoughtless, and will now be sloping off for a while, it was a little below the belt for me.Sad

Tex111 · 20/04/2006 20:58

Diege, with our recent trip to A&E we were told that there is a tummy bug going around with lots of vomiting. Do you have any Dioralite (sp?). When Rosie was throwing up her milk she did keep most of the Dioralite down.

Gosh, I've missed you guys! Things have been insane here. It looks like Rosie has developed a reaction to her soya formula so we've been through three different formulas this week trying to find something that she'll take (some of them are absolutely foul) and can keep down without causing her discomfort. I fear we're at the beginning of a very long road with her allergies.

Loving all the pics from the meet-up! So nice to see all the babies and mummies together. I would definitely be up for a night out. Just have to make sure DH is around. He's travelling loads with work at the moment.

I've been reading the thread but feel so tired at the moment. I'd love to respond with personal messages for everyone but will just say that reading all your chat has been getting me through the days this week. I feel like a big puddle (oops, almost typed poodle!). Definitely a low point but I'm just trying to ride it out to the other side.

OK, where did I hide that Easter egg...

Tex111 · 20/04/2006 21:04

Whoa Londoner, did I miss something? Please don't slope off.

Diege · 20/04/2006 21:14

Gosh LONDONER, mistakingly thought you were OK about it because of your funny comment in response to NOVAs post Blush; can't bear to think of you upset Sad...are you ok??

Tex111 · 20/04/2006 21:55

Oh, is this because of the remark about Catherine Tate? Surely that was a joke. You look nothing like that character! I can see why your feelings would be hurt if you took it seriously though. Hate to think of you upset. Sad

LaylaandSethsmum · 20/04/2006 22:28

Diege, just noticed that someone is looking for you on another thread , Chezbabe or someone/ Thought i'd let you know.

Londoner Sad Truly hope you've not permanently sloped of!?!

beartime · 20/04/2006 22:39

Londoner - I don't have a clue who Catherine Tate is (as DH says - I live in a bubble!) but I have to say i was jealously thinking that you looked so elegant and young. Whereas me, oh goodness, glad no-one's saying who I look like Grin I'd probably be so mortified i'd drop down a manhole cover never to be seen again.

Rodeo · 21/04/2006 00:01

Oh Londoner, don't slope off, I'm positive Nova would never post anything to upset you :( And I'm sure she'd be mortified to think she had. And we all got on so well on Tues :) I'm the queen of thoughtless posts anyway, always pressing 'post message' before I've read them through properly, and because they're 'down on paper' they can get read in different tones/expressions etc and can read quite different person to person, think I upset Chacha once (sorry about that luvBlush)

Had quite a nice meal out but I always chose the wrong thing, my dad's choices were much better! My sisters birthday is the first week in April and mine is the first week in May so he usually takes us out for a joint thing (the cheapskate Wink)

Tex, we're glad you're back too :)I did read your thread in the Allergy section - I had no idea things were so bad, it must a be really upsetting time for you, you are a brilliant mum for coping like you have (although you probably feel like you're not but you definitely are :)). My friend's little girl used to bring everything up to and she was at her wits end, she has since grown out of her allergies so let's hope little Rosie does too x xx x x x xx x

Yes Grazia was the mag Diege! Not quite as bad as when she said 'Steve Wright is a tw*t?' when she was reading the opposite side to the side dp was reading while he read Viz!

Night! x x x

PS Diege - who is this mysterious Chezbabe?? Are you two-timing us? Grin

goldenoldie · 21/04/2006 08:07

Nova - great idea of evening meet-up. Can I put in an early request? That we meet early - i.e 7ish, and somewhere central and smoke-free.

This is completely selfish, but I would have to slope off at 9pm (otherwise I turn into a pumpkin!) so the earlier the better for me.

BoB - glad you have go a bit more support from the HV. I've found most of the surestart groups good - hope you like them.

The DTs did not like the fast or the variable flow teats. Only did one feed before reverting back as they were stopping/gagging after every couple of mouthfuls so I could see something was wrong. Now on medium flow, no: 3.

Diege - you have reminded me to check my payslip too.

Londoner - come back.......................

Diege · 21/04/2006 08:34

Morning Smile Libby took 4 ozs of milk this morning and hasn;t been sick yet, so fingers crossed. She's refusing water/juice though, so just hoping she's had enough to keep rehydrated. Thanks for the advive TEX, will try to get some diarolite (sp?) today - remember dd1 loved the blackcurrant one! Sad to hear you've been through such an awful time Sad; you were missed Smile.
RODEO: sounds a nice evening, did you end up picking off your dad Grin? Ha ha, yes I knew it must be Grazia when I turned the page and saw it; never much to read in that mag, but I still get it every week Smile LOL at Chezbabe Grin; wish I could think up something dramatic, but she's just a lady who I'm buying some dungarees from Grin (oh and thanks to L&Smum for letting me know Smile). Hi to everyone else, and hope to hear from LONDONER soon???

Londoner · 21/04/2006 09:05

HiSmile,

Sorry guys, my apologies to everyone for upsetting the equilibrium of our lovely thread.

Hope you all have a lovely day, Diege, so glad to hear Libby is on the mend.

Nova, evening meet is a lovely idea, although I wouldn't be able to come as E doesn't go to bed until @ 10pm.

Yay, it's Friday, have a great day all!

novadandypowder · 21/04/2006 09:27

Ok, now I'm really confused, was that a 'funny haha' flounce, or did you really get upset? I make no apologies for what I posted, so just take it in the good humour it was intended. It's not like I said you reminded me of some munter.

GO - I was thinking Kettners in soho? Quite central, and I think it's smoke free (I've never noticed it being smoky before, but have only been there at lunch time). Early is fine, but I'll need to come back with dates as DH is working loads of nights over the next couple of months. JenJam you up for it?
