A nice new thread for us all - I know someone mentioned it a few days ago Grin

What a nightmare GG!!!It's nights like that that make you appreciate 6 hours or so! At least you can link it to teething; harder I guess if it's like Yorkshire's Holly Sad. Hold in there Yorkshire; agree with BEAR, I wouldn't feed at night (if you do) but this is the Gina F gestapo speaking Grin.
LOL NOVA at Nat's thighs and the bumbo! We have a lilac one that Libby sort of likes, though we had to laugh at her the other day when she was screaming in it and waving her fists (like that baby in Family Man - 'damn you!, damn you all!!!')Blush. Had an early start this morning (5.15), with L gurgling and cooing, enough to wake me up, but not DH who just slept and snored through it all Angry. Feeling poorly myself, with really bad sore throat (sympathy pleaseGrin) I can put up with most ailments, but not sore throats which I get a lot. Whinge whinge...
Driving lesson to look forward to Grin!
Speak later, will go and have a look at Yahoo pictures now Smile

Ah ha - got a Winkle though had no idea what it was called. Is it me or does Winkle sound rude?

Also got a Squish which Ash loves but we seem to have mislaid it Sad
Don't mean to sound (too) smug but paid 50p for each in a charity shop Grin

browniechick · 30/03/2006 09:50

Hi - thanks for comments on Christening pic Nova - very kind. It was a beautiful day, and T was an Angel. Think I mentioned before, gown is over 80 years old - a family heiryloom! Grin It was a perfect day.
Must dash, gurgling baby, and Mummy is ignoring it to be on here! naughty Mummy Blush
Will catch up again later

HiSmile,

Elizabeth loads better today[phew], thanks guysSmile.
Rodeo, yes I love fisherman stripes too, wish you could find more of it but without other pictures or writing on..... this stripey vest is a gorgeous Petit Bateau one, a present of course, my favourite, their clothes always fit my long string-bean kids really well, lol. Shock at your near fall in the canal, scarey... bet that made you feel very 'alive'! How's Jess' cold today?
Tessa, how did the play barn go?
BEKs, so glad to hear your cloud has goneSmile. Glad you liked my post, thanks.
Jen, sorry to hear about your phoneSad.
Oh no, LilJ, you poor things - so frightening, so glad to hear little Nathaniel has turned the corner now.
GG, hope you had an easier school run today... must be tough on little sleep....
ChaCha, thanksSmile...... sorry no advice on house arranging here, I am officially useless at all that kind of stuff, now if you were to consult my dhGrin.....
Beartime, thanks for advice, will remember for next time. Meant to say I loved your reason for Caleb's middle name, v.good.
Hi Tex, lol at Toby shoe story, you are funny.....
Golden, hope you had a good night after those jabs...
Karma - good luck at your interview today [crossed fingers].
lol at Natalie in the bumbo Nova!
Brownie, must go and look at those pics..
Yorkshire, wow, you've been busy! Sounds like exciting times ahoy at your house....... hope Holly starts sleeping better for you soon..
Diege, lol a lot at your image of Libby in the bumbo shaking her fists? So funny, thank you! You poor thing with your sore throat, hot lemon and honey? Libby's cooing..... so sweet...... well maybe not at 5.15am, ug. Good luck with your driving lesson, how many to go now?
Right, just realised Elizabeth has woken up in her sling and is just quietly staring up at me, so sweet.....

babyonboard · 30/03/2006 12:00

Hi All..

Had a crazy day yesterday..O had no naps (must have been his massive nights sleep before) and wanted my full attention all day. It's quite good though as he again slept through from 7-7ish..and i'd much rather have him cooing and giggling during the day when i can apprecite it, rather than at 3am..lol

Also had our insurance surveyors round to assess the damage from the leaky boiler..they will be paying for the whole room and hallway to be redecorated and carpeted..and the damage to neighbours place too...phew!
(wonder if it's cheeky to ask for hard wood floors instead..lol)

brownie chick - sweet photos!..glad you enjoyed the day
londoner - i love stripes too! and spottty things..hehe. glad E is feeling a little better.
btw , you are always so good at reading and rsponding to everyones posts! lol
lilJ - also glad N is better..must have been very scary!
chacha..lovely idea! I think i posted this before..but you may have missed it
\link{http://www.babysfirstdiary.com/\babys first diary}
you fill in week by week entrys and when your baby is 1 they make it into a hardbound copy for you totally free..you do hve to nswer the odd questionairre etc , but it looks great to me.
obviously wouldn't work for a group nov. ladies book though..lol
re- bumbos..we're debating getting one..we had a lilac one given to us before O was born..but that was useless obviously..hhehee
i'm not sure how much use we'll get out of it as we already have a similar style wooden chair for him.
when it was delivered dp thought i'd ordered a wooden potty..hhaha

re- getting out of the house..i'm awful at it..and only got the one tot so no excuse there! i am always 1/2 an hour later than i plan to be no matter what.. Blush

okay..off to make a dash to sainsburys whilst the sun is shining..

Diege · 30/03/2006 17:21

Phew BOB, no naps, must have been hard going! Bumbo is OK, though will probably get high chair too as it doesn't reach out table top when on chair. Great for first weaning, but not a total substitute for chair I think. Looks cute though Grin.
Driving lesson pretty rubish today Blush; I thought I'd got the hang of reverse round corner, but mounted kerb twice today Blush..rubbish!!!! Don't like to hazzard a guess at how many more lessons LONDONER, though thanks for asking! At least 3 or 4 months worth I think! Blush. Off to cinema tommorrow?
L&SMUM, meant to say how gorgeous Layla is! Of course I knew Seth was a looker, having met him Smile.
Feel really poorly, and hate the fact that I am such a bad ill person! Cannot seem to get anything done, and can't get past it by mental effort like most people seem to do! I just want to sleeeeeppppp!!!
Speak later,
Diege Smile

babyonboard · 30/03/2006 17:33

dieg..forgot to post earlier..i used to have chronic sore throats ..have you tried using a humidifier in the house? it really helped me, especially in winter..
also there are these funny tablets you can get that totally numb your mouth and throat..can't remember the name but they come in a pack of two orange tubes?

sorry for blahing..got tons of washing to put away and i'm procrastinating

Rodeo · 30/03/2006 18:26

Hi :)

Oooh it's been one of those days today - everyone seems to want a piece of me and I feel a bit stretched! Not sure why I have got a general bag on, but I just have!

Great planning over on the yahoo site! Yay! Really looking forward to it!

Diege - hows the throat, Bob I know the pastilles, the orange lemsip ones I think - I also used the Vicks Throat Spray, worked a bit but mainly just made me heave! LOL at the bumbo image!! Aw, and little Natalie in hers :)

Londoner - J is a lot better but has a nasty sounding cough, thanks for asking :) How's E?

Lil, love the flowerpot man photo!!

Brownie, lovely christening pics, my gran gave me an Irish embroidered cotton gown (a bit broderie anglais) although haven't dared put them in it, it's so old and delicate - I think it's meant for a newborn not a boisterous 5 month old :)

Right I'm off swimming later so better get the children in the bath and ready for bed x x x

Diege · 30/03/2006 19:31

Hi everyone! Awww, feel an awful baby with my sore throat Blush; thanks for advice everyone - I must be a man deep down Grin (hey actually I could be - why d'you think I haven't posted my picture on yahoo sight!!! Wink. Have a good swim RODEO; I feel like I have exercised just reading about your exertions! BTW LONDONER: wow posh name Wink; was on my 'last 3' list for Libby, and on to my short-list for no.4 !
Babies in bed and strangely better! DH out in Manchester, so telly and bottles (great...); have got into that egg donation thing though. v.good!!!

tex111 · 30/03/2006 19:40

Hi all, mad busy week here. I used to think that life would calm down at some point but I'm beginning to think that this IS life now. At least for the forseeable future.

Nova, thanks for the new thread. Love that image of Natalie in the bumbo!

Diege, so sorry you're ill! It's so hard when you can't stop and be pampered. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Londoner, such inspirational posts. Totally agree about getting myself ready first thing in the morning. Otherwise, it just never happens. You really should write a book. I'd buy a copy! Glad E is feeling better.

Beks, good to hear from you. How is your house doing? Hope everyone is feeling better. We've just done the round with conjunctivitis. I think you mentioned that Ben had it?? Seems to be in the air or something at the moment. Glad you're feeling better. We've missed you. Smile

LilJ, that sounds so scary. Glad Nate is feeling better. That Dioralyte really helps. We've had to use it a few times too. How is Nate doing?

Cha Cha, I know what you mean about needing an adult room. Our place is has children's things everywhere. I tend to chuck it all behind the armchair in the evening so I can't see it. We're talking about turning the third bedroom into a playroom just as you described. It is nice when they get older, have friends over and can just play in one room.

I love babies in stripes too. H&M and La Redoute do some great stripy baby clothes. I just ordered Rosie and red stripy top from La Redoute. Very French and so inexpensive.

GG, welcome! Look forward to getting to know you.

BoB, I have a tattoo. Got it from a Hell's Angel in a trailer in a very bad part of town when I was 17, before tattoo parlors were everywhere. Thought I was very cool but unfortunately got then-boyfriend's initial in a heart which inevitably meant that we split up about six months later. Then had it covered with a butterfly by a Puerto Rican gang member in LA (such a degenerate background). Over the years half of the butterfly has faded to show the heart and it all looks dreadful. Would have it removed if I could stand the pain! On the other hand, my sister has a few tattoos and loves them all so I guess you just have to choose wisely.

Brownie, gorgeous pics! What a special day.

Rosie loves her bumbo but so does Tobes. He has little chicken legs and can still fit in it! I've ended up buying him a 'special chair' too and got a beanbag chair for him. I let him choose it and he went for pink gingham. Definitely a boy in touch with his feminine side.

Hi Yorkshire. Sounds like you've been busy! Bought your wedding dress, how exciting!

Hi to everyone else! Sorry for monster post but have been intending to get on all week. Children finally asleep and DH working late so trying to make the most of it.

Friend came over today 11 weeks pregnant with her first. We had a chat over chocolate cake and I sent her home with What to Expect, Sheila Kitzinger, Oxford Book of Names, and the rest. I told her to come back for my GF and BW after the baby arrives. She hadn't heard of either yet! Ah, poor innocent lass.

Diege · 30/03/2006 19:57

Wow TEX, you and your tattoo stories Shock; they could do a film about you! GrinLOL about bumbo and Tobes' chicken legs! It seems that the older they get, the easier they fit in it! DDs1 &2 also love it, though use it as lauch pad for somersaults off sofa Angry.
Seriously contemplating the chocolate raisins tonight..tooo moorish Smile

tex111 · 30/03/2006 20:06

Diege, it was a very strange experience. I was with my best friend, Kellie, and we were always getting into trouble. When we had them done in LA my cousin, who's the real tough guy, took us to his tattooist and we embarrassed him half to death. Kellie and I were doing the Texan thing and talking to everyone and posing for photos. I have a bunch of pics of us with these probably very dangerous guys flashing their gang symbols and there's me and Kellie with our big Dallas hair and cheesy grins. Definitely a story for the granchildren!

novadandypowder · 30/03/2006 21:23

Tex I would LOVE to see those photos if you're able to scan and put them on yahoo!

Well, my house now smells of school dinners as I've been on a puree making bender - broccoli, parsnip, pear, and butternut squash. Not enough ice cube trays, so the carrot and sweet pot will have to wait.

I love love love \link{http://www.sasti.co.uk\this shop} for clothes. I've just got loads of stripy stuff from there today (theres one near Portobello Green), and Nat already has some of the animal print outer wear, but they're great for funky colours and designs, and they are all made in the UK. Also got some hand knitted finger puppets from there - very sweet.

OP posts:
beartime · 30/03/2006 21:47

Tex - you sound like me, donating books to everyone! LOL at your tatoo antics. Were you a hippy? DH was - long hair, drugs an' all.

So what's everyone's accent like? - I want to know so I'm not too taken aback at the meet up! I've got a Hampshire accent (pretty pure but not posh) with an American twang! I'm betting Nova and Golden have posh accents, and maybe Londoner...? Not sure about the northern ones - can you be northern and sound posh too?! I used to have a brummie accent but it got bullied out of me when we moved to Hampshire at the tender age of 7 Sad

I am feeling so tired and unmotivated - i think because I can't seem to get myself into gear to clean, and then get depressed because I haven't done it! I need to read the Flylady again I think... Grin

LilJ · 30/03/2006 22:22

Well Nate is still not 100 percent, but vastly improved. Not eating as much as usual, but very vocal and seemingly happy judging from the smiles and giggles Smile

Beartime - I've got a very mid-Atlantic accent as I was born here and had a fairly posh accent when I left at age of 5 and then lived in the States from the age of twelve for 17 years - my family lived in Italy and Mexico in between. Plus I'm married to a New Yorker, so my accent is very very confused now. It will be bizarre for both me and DH to have a son with a London accent.

J xx

Diege · 30/03/2006 22:25

Love the clothes NOVA!!!..another shop to tempt me and my credit cards ShockGrin!!!
BEAR: sounds like you need a break; could DH have C, say for a morning so you can have some 'me' time? I'd forget about the cleaning for a few days and just concentrate on doing things which make you happy (it'll still be there when you get back!).
Re: accents, I don't have one (so I'm told), though have flat vowels (bath, not barth Grin) which I guess is northern Smile. Not much Welsh there anymore Sad.
Right, bed!
Diege Smile

Diege · 30/03/2006 22:28

Good to hear Nate is giggling LILJ, must be a relief Smile

Rodeo · 30/03/2006 22:54

Lil, forgot to say I was sorry to hear Nate was so ill, sounds like he is on the mend :)

Don't think I have an accent either, Diege!

Tex - Wow at tattoo revelations!! Does anyone watch Miami Ink? It's addictive TV and the woman tattoo artist (Cat?) is amazing!! I would let her loose on me with her tattoo gun!

Nova - more purees - well done! What are Nat's faves? J is currently into carrot and bananas. What a fab website, the cowboy stuff is brill - you should definately look Tex!

Right did promise myself an early night :)

Rodeo · 30/03/2006 23:01

Just checked the yahoo site quickly and must say I just want to text you all! Grin So if you get a daft text in the middle of the night it will probably be from me Blush I will try to refrain though

novadandypowder · 30/03/2006 23:17

Have you been at the wine again Rodeo? Wink

Nats favourites seem to be carrot and apple. It's been quite basic so far, so some of the ones I've made today will be new for her. Still only doing it once a day but may move to twice from next week. She's not a fan of potato, think it's the texture, so I'm going to try mixing it with something a bit more fun. Think I'm letting her have too much milk before the food though, the book says to give them a bit before the food so they're not really hungry, but Nat can drain most of the bottle without taking a breath, so I'll need to wrestle it away from her.

I have a very confused accent. My mother had a bee in her bonnet about wanting my sister and I to sound posh and made us speak properly so we didn't get a hampshire accent. However, I had a very close friend at school who was from up north so I picked up her northern accent (partly because I was embarrassed by the way my voice sounded - wanted to 'common' it up a bit Wink). So lots of people now think I'm originally from up north.

OP posts:
Rodeo · 30/03/2006 23:38

God I know! I'm awfully embarrassing at this time of night - I think it's tiredness. And yet I'm still not in bed!! x

ChaCha · 30/03/2006 23:54

Interesting read on accents. I'd like to say that I 'climatise' after living between continents (i.e adapt accent to surroundings). Mum has a Scottish accent & dad could easily have gotten the part of Harry Enfield's 'Hello Peeps' -remember that one? Fortunately, developed my own.

Diege - I love the Welsh accent (of course, I'm biased) it's so jolly. Shame that hardly any of the relatives speak Welsh. Have picked up the term 'pishlags' - FIL taught me that Blush 'cootch', 'I'd a do' etc..
LOL @ bottles and telly. Assuming bottles of milk and not beer Blush I watched the Family Man with the LO asleep on sofa. I seem to have watched too much TV today, have a headache, not used to it.

Nova - Their website is great - i don't just mean the products, the whole set out etc.
Have you tried 'Babes n Burgers' on the Portobello Road?

DS keeps peeing on me! The second I take him out of the bath...whooosh! Don't even get a chance to get nap naps on. Has happened 3 times this week.
Are most boys the same?

Nighty night all x

ChaCha · 30/03/2006 23:56

OMG - Nappy Blush not nap naps. You can tell I have so much adult conversation in a day. Nap naps & bot bots...geeeh!

yorkshirepuddling · 30/03/2006 23:57

Well I e-mailed my boss to ask for flexible hours and some holidays Grin for when I return to work. I wait with baited breath to see his response.

Beartime - No i don't give her a bottle in the night - just give her a dummy and she goes back off sometimes for 5 minutes before she wakes again and sometimes for an hour or so. My mil thinks that weaning will solve it but I'm not sure. Bought some teething gel as hv mentioned it might be this - she has everything in sight in her mouth so.... we'll see.

She hasn't had hardly any sleep today and is fast asleep so hoping that she stays that way for a while.

dp had three days off to 'tidy the house' (i'd make such a bad housewife Blush ) but so far i've managed to drag him out for the last two. Today I invited him to gymboree which he was really pleased about and absolutely loved it. We were allowed cameras today so I have some great photos of Holly and dp on equipment and Holly with bubbles all over her head.

Had a blow out on the diet tonight with a meal out with my parents with both a starter and a main course so no doubt a bad week. I'm really jealous of you all with the weaning - I'm dreading it as I haven't got a clue - you all seem so clued up. A child studies teacher recommended the annabel karmel book so I might need to invest in that to 'gen' up on the subject.

Anyway going to bed whilst everyone asleep, no doubt i'll be up in an hour - i'm watching more tv at night than in the day - after a while I find i'm wide awake and then Holly decides to stop fighting and sleep for the rest of the night - and i'm left watching quizmania or Jeremy Kyle?!?!?!?!
