Blimey girls you lot can chat, don't post for a week and you need another week to catch up Grin

Had to give a wry smile at the Mn additction and looking for answers to posts, getting a mention etc - thought I was the only one like that but feel better knowing I'm not [smile} Blush Smile

Right will try to mention everyone in this post so it's going to be mammoth - sorry!

Karma well done with the job interview, you must be really pleased that it gives you such good options, I'll call you this week at some time for a chat.

Chacha great idea about the Nov Mums Journal, I've jotted down a few ideas and I'll post them on the yahoo site, then we can crack on!

Tex love the tattoo stories, you just so don't look that kind of girl! Re the nightmares / night terrors Ben suffers with them terribly and I find that they are most frequent around the times he is having a growth spurt. I personally do all the things you are not supposed to do but his screaming sounds like he's being murdered, it's awful so I pick him up, take him to our room and shout his name and tell him he's ok, with mummy etc at the top of my voice, he is generally shaking, eyes wide open and screaming at this point, it normally takes me about 10 - 15 mins to calm him down and I know I have him back by asking him a question like what room is he in etc. He doesn't remember anything in the morning thankfully.

Twinkle my heart goes out to you at the moment, you've had such a rough time, hope the rest of '06 is better for you, we are all here for you if you need us.

GG your husbands accident sounds terrible and two years must seem like an eternity at the moment, hope he makes a full recovery and you can get back to normal - whatever that is with kids in the house Smile

Nova glad you had a good time at the wedding & don't feel bad about enjoying your time off you've earned it after all especially with your dh being away. Feel pleased that Natalie was good for your Nanny it means you are raising a confident happy little girl - well done you!

LilJ sorry to hear that Nate was so poorly but glad to hear he is all better now.

AS for accents mine is true south london or shoulfd that be sourf Grin

Right got to go as Ben is pestering me to go on the computer and Thomas has just woken up.

Hope everyone is well and surviving the Easter hols if they've started where you are - we appear to be doing ok for the first day. Catch up with you all soon Beks

novadandypowder · 03/04/2006 15:09

BoB - just been browsing through the JoJoMamanBebe catalogue and they have a pack of 12 use once pre-steralised bottles for £7. Think if you order via MN you get 10% off?

My friend quit smoking for the new year by reading a book that she now can't stop raving about. I can find out what it is for you if you like?

OP posts:
LilJ · 03/04/2006 15:38

BOB - you can buy the pre-sterilized bottles from Boots 1.99 for 4. They're made by Tommy Tippee. I just bought some and some cold water sterilizing tablets plus a swim nappy for Nate - so I might just book that holiday ...

Hi everyoneSmile,

First day of the hols here too BEKs.... we're gonna be ooooookaySmile.

Twinkle, it's good to hear from you again, but am so sorry to hear about your losses. Lots of strength to you. I think a little bit of the people we love is always with us.Smile

BoB, I am a smoker too. But like you have given up and every now and again lapse. The thing is, it is an addiction and like all addictions they never actually go away, IMO. Looking forward to the smoking ban here as it's when I'm socialising and other people are doing it that it's the hardest I find. I think this ban will help a lot of people like you and I. It is very hard. You can stop yourself if you want to.... but I fear the evening ones with your dp are a slippery slope. IME if you have one at a certain time one day, you'll want one at that time the following day etc... can you swap it for a different 'treat'?

Hi everyone else too...

Londoner · 03/04/2006 16:05

Oh Tex, not familiar with Cambridge as he taught at Trinity College, Dublin...before I ever knew him. D'you know I don't think I've ever been to Cambridge.... will have to wait until I visit ds at UniWink.

GarfieldsGirl · 03/04/2006 18:08

Hi everyone, Easter hols are here for us too. We took Owen today to a dinosaur exhibition in the city museum, and he had a great time. Just another 2 wks to fill now...

Twinkle - so sorry to hear of all your losses. Sad You're obviously doing a great job donating milk to the neo-natal unit though, I don't have the patience to express even a couple of ounces, so really well done to you. Keep up the good work! Smile

BEKs - Ben's nightmares sound absolutely terrifying, I don't think Owens are anything compared to that, and its so upsetting when he's screaming out in his sleep, it must be awful for you, but at least he has no recollection of the night when he wakes up.

BoB - I've never smoked and never wanted to, so I have no idea how hard it is to stop, I'm told all the time by dp how hard it is. But at least you know its bad for you all and horrible smelling of fags, so just be really strong and hard on yourself, you know its best for you all if you don't do it.

Londoner · 03/04/2006 18:36

Sorry to hear about the night terrors GG and BEKs, it's really hard to stay calm yourself isnn't it? Fear is so 'infectious'. IME they do grow out of them. BEKs was it you who said it coincided with growth spurts? That's so interesting , and also made me wonder about a connection to hormones. Boys get a massive dose of testosterone at @ 4 years old....

What's everyone listening to BTW. I've justy got hold of a nice new little compilation called'the way we wore' with tracks likeLord Kichener - London is the place for me, Brass Construction - Movin, but also Spandau Ballet, The Clash and Kid Creole & The Coconuts! Showing my age here eh? Sounds possibly quite dodgy I know but it's great!

Candiemom · 03/04/2006 19:04

Hi gals! Just a quick one to say we are back and married and christened and it all went well. I've only skimmed but see that life continues to be joyful and challenging. Welcome GG -- sending good wishes your way. And so sorry about your losses Twinkle. Sounds like everyone has had that terrible fluey bug and I hope all babies are feeling better. Am very envious of multiple children and those of you trying again. I'm a bit old so probably just my one.

Anyone rolling over? DD has decided she prefers tummy to sleep and I'm not sure what to do about this. Advice welcome. More tomorrow after I emerge from the ton of laundry.

Missed you all very much and told everone at home about you!

goldenoldie · 03/04/2006 19:35

BoB - give it up! Noting worse than a baby that smells like 20 B&H.

LilJ - A long haul trip will be a lot easier now, before Nate is moving around. But - what about jabs?
Yes, lets get together for coffee - e-mail or ring me.

Candimum - congrats. Glad it all went well.

ChaCha · 03/04/2006 19:37

Congratulations Candiemom :)

Brownie - You do make me laugh! We suffer from CTS here too. Bummer isn't it!

BoB - That's disgusting!! How could you? Shock(Well, you asked for it Wink) Nova said it all to be quite honest. I used to be a BIG smoker and like Londoner moreso when socialising (esp drinking - yuk). I gave up over 5 years ago, was really hard but as my lifestyle changed it got easier so there was no pressure and my dad also quit at the same time so we kind of helped each other too. Don't you hate the smell on your clothes when you take them off after a night out? Yuk. Much prefer the smell of babysick nowadays Smile

LiLJ - Lucky old you! Holiday sounds great, let us know when you're going.

Beks - Welcome back! :) Hope the boys are well and that you're finding some 'you' time.

As for us, walked to a nearby town today and discovered a lovely coffee shop. Spent an hour in there reading, drinking coffee and the LO was quite content once fed to sit and stare at passing customers/lights etc.. Until the novelty wears off will be our retreat for a while, loved it. Last of the jabs tomorrow, yay!

Londoner - Spandau ballet .. loved em!

BEKsmum · 03/04/2006 19:45

Candimon Welcome back and congratulations, leave the laundry we want to know all the details on both events, so does life feel differnt now you're a married woman? Wink can't wait to see the pictures too.

I'm sure the other will tell you too but the ladies of the north are coming to London on Tuesday 18th April all the details are on the Yahoo site - can you make it?

Londoner oh no not a another burst of testosterone if I wasn't suicidal before, I am now - explains why we're having so much trouble with Ben though Sad.
It was me that said about night terrors coinciding with a growth spurt, I normally get warning as he wakes up at first saying his legs hurt, the other trigger can be when he gets wrapped up in his duvet and gets too hot, we normally find it will start about an hour after he has gone to bed so when we're in a bout of them we go up and disturb him just before he's had an hour and somethimes this can prevent the terror coming on.

Right got to go as dh has just dumped Thomas on me again while he puts Ben to bed - I was supposed to be doing some housework - boo Smile Beks

browniechick · 03/04/2006 19:47

Evening All! Went out for a walk this afternoon to Morrisons - the girl at the checkout must have thought I was a right gutsy pig - amongst the few items I bought were 27 creme eggs and a couple of packs of sweets!! Before you all also think I have gone loopy - they are not for me (honest!) they are for Brownies tomorrow night!!

Chacha - glad I make you laugh - it is always nice to hear you have brightened someones day!!! Think you live near (ish) me - somewhere near Oxford isn't it? Perhaps one day we could meet up?

Bob - dirty, filthy, disgusting habit - you should be ashamed of yourself - How could you??????Shock (well you did ask!! Did this help?) Grin

Candi - Fantastic - Congratulations - don't forget to post some pics when you get them. Had Ts christening whilst you were away - it was fab (pics on yahoo)

Well Thomas is in bed asleep - where he has been for the last hour and a half. Bless him - only got 3 full weeks left with him Sad so must make the most of it. DH has got next week off work, so he can spend a week with us before I go back to work Smile and we are off to Southampton this weekend to stay with my cousin and her family (my goddaughter who played the April fool on me!!!!!)

Good luck to all those who still have their final jabs to go - T was ok with all of his thank goodness, but did make my Mum come with us, so she could hold him for the needle stick part (then he didn't associate me with the pain!!!!) my Mum was thrilled when I told her this (not)! Blush

Brownie & Thomas

Londoner · 03/04/2006 20:10

Yes Brownie, but will there still be 27 eggs tomorrow morning..... or will you be popping into the local newsagent for a few 'replacements'?GrinWink

Karmamother · 03/04/2006 20:22

Hi all,
I haven't read all of your posts & I'm now drinking a glass of wine (bad mommy!) so I'll try & remember everyone.

Candiemom, congratulations! We need to hear more!

Beksmum, thanks, the interview was, if I'm honest, more like a chat. What was odd was that the 2 people interviewing me still hadn't arrived after 10 mins & I was sat next to a phone so I had to ring the operating theatres to ask where they were!! Will ring you tomorrow afternoon. Hope Ben is ok after his bad dreams.

BoB, I'm so glad I never started smoking as I can't even control my addiction to chocolate! Be strong & you can do it. My mum smoked & died when I was 20 from a smoking related disease. She smoked Woodbines whilst she was pg with me so I have been affected in many ways. Its just NOT worth it. Even social smoking will affect your health. You want to be around to enjoy O for many years, keep remembering that. Sermon over.Smile

Chacha, its great to find somewhere to take Z where you can relax. I think it's good for babies to see people go by.

Twinkle, hope things improve for you soon. Well done for the BFing & donating.

Had a crap weekend again. Every fortinght when all the kids are here there is tension. Sunday evenings seem to consist of DP & I having an argument, me bursting into tears then him going to the pub. We knew it would be difficult but I wish it wasn't this bad. I hate confrontation but I know from bitter experience that avoiding issues is more harmful. I'm determined to make this work. I think I might ask for some advice on the Step-parenting section.

On a positive note, El is just great. Somehow, today we seem to have fallen into the BW's EASY system. It's only taken 19 weeks!! Ha ha. I'm a bit free & easy with her daily routine but nightimes are fairly regimented. She is rolling onto her side but hasn't made that final push.

BTW, how good is 24?? This is the first series I've watched & I'm well hooked. DP has the other ones on DVD & I hope to watch them all before my mat leave ends.

browniechick · 03/04/2006 20:33

Karma - sorry to hear you had a crap weekend - don't suppose it can be easy being a step parent - don't have any words of advice as it's something I've not experienced - but hang in there, am sure it will sort itself out in the end.

Londoner - am hoping there will still be 27 left tomorrow (would defo be sick if even attempted to eat that many!!!!! Grin) unless dh gets hold of them - and then there will be trouble! Would have to make him explain to Brownies why they didn't have an egg to put in their Easter craft thingy!!!!!

Thomas has managed to get onto his side - but doesn't seem to have the inclination or oomph to make that last push to roll over completely. Not overly bothered - he is very happy and contented with what he can do at the moment. Also, the teeth haven't popped through yet - think we've been teething for over a month now!!!! I can see them under the gum, but they aren't poking through yet!! poor lamb!!

Brownie & Thomas

Tex111 · 03/04/2006 20:53

Hey Candi! Welcome back!

Beks, just got Toby settled after another nightmare. So interested to hear your experience with Ben because Toby's is almost exactly the same. I had made the link between the nightmares and him getting too hot so we've been turning the heat off before his bedtime. Hadn't linked it to growth spurts but now that you've mentioned it I can see that it totally fits!! You're a genius! Have given Tobes some Calpol tonight to help calm the growing pains and hopefully he'll get a better night's sleep. I can't tell you how grateful I am that you could point out the connection for me. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, no time to catch up or chat right now as the house is a complete tip. For some reason both kiddos were playing up at bedtime and then a decorator turned up for an appointment that I had totally forgotten about so had to show him around while stepping over toys, dodging bits of Toby's dinner still on the floor, carrying a crying Rosie with two scary looking eyes full of conjunctivitis. Not my best evening. Now I've got to go do some tidying and wash some laundry or I'll be wearing Jason's bathrobe tomorrow.

One question though - anyone have any tips for getting food stains out of bibs and clothes? Almost everything Rosie (and I) own seems to be covered in orange splodges that won't come out.

Tex111 · 03/04/2006 20:54

Oh, I said Jason instead of DH. That looks so funny!

Karmamother · 03/04/2006 20:55

Thanks, brownie.

Can you believe that Gina Ford's lawyers are taking legal action against MN for allowing defamatory posts to remain on here. Have a look \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=161170\here}

OMG Karma Shock - Don't tell Diege!! Grin Sorry you have had a tough weekend, 24 must have helped though! Love love love 24 too. I am madly in love with Jack Bauer, phew!

Is Diege at her mammoth hair sesh today? Hope all went well and your locks look lushious!

Bob - Give up now! It's really bad for you and smelly and expensive! Don't beat yourself up though, you're not chain-smoking, I'd say go for Londoner's 'other treat' strategy. LOL at your near crisis last night! You are me!! Grin

Beks - LOL at 'we are appear to be doing ok for the first day' Grin Not even sure if it was supposed to be funny but it made me laugh!

Candimom - Yay! Congratulations on both mega events :) You must post pics! Re sleeping positions, if she's able to move herself onto her front on her own I think it would be fine to leave her in that position to sleep, unless you think she'll get stuck?

Brownie - mmmmm 27 creme eggs? Another thing to keep from Diege!! You are naughty making your mum hold him through his jabs LOL! J is unfortunately scared of men with beards, so not good news for my dad or her Uncle Harry!

Tex - I'm with you with orange splodges! Non-Bio just doesn't cut it but I don't want to use Bio on her clothes either. I think we just may have to try hard be more careful Grin

Rodeo · 03/04/2006 21:38

Where is BAM? She's not posted for ages has she?

Karmamother · 03/04/2006 21:40

I think diege should get involved in that post, someone has to defend that woman! Smile

Karmamother · 03/04/2006 21:42

Rodeo, I honestly thought the president was going to allow his wife to die, Shock Wonder what will happen to Lyn, aka the hobbit from LOTR.

Rodeo · 03/04/2006 21:53

Oh god, Karma don't tell me! I didn't watch last night, plan to watch Weds night, sounds brill!!! Grin

Rodeo · 03/04/2006 22:01

Nova - Just been browsing in the meet-up section and there are some ladies looking for you on the Notting Hill thread :)
