A nice new thread for us all - I know someone mentioned it a few days ago Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 31/03/2006 21:28

he actually said 'you can't write that, what if...'. My typing!!!

browniechick · 31/03/2006 21:36

GG I am not worried about Ts mark either, but got it measured by the HV anyway, just incase!

Hope it is nothing serious with your dp.

I have just ordered a shade-a-babe cover to go over the pushchair - to protect T from all the harmful UV rays and it also acts as a wind break (so he doesn't boil with the rain cover on!) and it also keeps all the nasty bugs and pesky waspies away. Hope it does the trick and doesn't just make him look like he's got a fruit loop for a mother!!!! Help me out here - has anyone else got something like this???? Or is it just me being over-cautious? Blush

Brownie

browniechick · 31/03/2006 21:42

Diege - excellent Grin you must practice texting!!!! Understand that you may be sceptical to post - but yahoo group is secure I think,so it should be safe? (just incase the texting goes horribly wrong!)

Night

GarfieldsGirl · 31/03/2006 22:14

Thanks for you r concern over dp Diege and Brownie Smile, suppose I should explain really, it may be quite long...

He had an accident at work in June. He was loading a lorry, one of the other guys didn't see him and put a fork lift through his leg. He was, actually very lucky that it somehow missed the artery, otherwise he probably wouldn't have survived. He had a hole in his leg, about 3" x 3" which he's had to ahve a skin graft on, and a big gap in his tib and fib. He's got a frame on his leg at the moment which is there while new bone grows. They'll be taking the frame off when he next goes in, but there's only 2 drs who can make that decision. He may still have to have bone grafts, and they still don't know for definite if they have managed to save the leg. The hardest part is the fact that he could go through 2 years of this, but still have to have his leg amputated.

It happened at the worst time possible (not that there's a good time for it to happen). I was 20 wks pregnant, and we were just buying a house so he was laying in hospital worrying about losing, baby, house and leg.

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 08:02

morning all..

garfieldsgirl - how awful! it must have been very scary. I hope that he makes a full recovery. Is it this weekend he goes back into hospital?

browniechick - the shadeababe looks like a great idea..I'll hve to get one before we go away nxt month. lol at 'fruit loop for a mother'

chacha - aaaaw! don't be so silly..sometimes it's just so hard to remember to catch up with everyon and reply to all the posts - we are a chatty bunch! I will have to use the method diege mentions of two boxes open..

pmsl at 'nap naps' btw..teeheee

I must say i felt awful the other day when someone linked to the postntal thread..I read through and noticed lots of people asking after me when I had dissapeared for so long

nova - i know you'll be gone by now but hope the wedding is fun..can't wait to see pics of you in your dress!

karma - congrats on the job! must be a relief to have something sorted ( though also sad to be leaving babe). girls night out sounds great..I'm going out tonight with some friends..should be great, though they are suggesting canary whrf, which isn't great at the best of times and will surely be dead on a saturday!?lol

I want this J.K gossip! he's always so smug and self righteous isn't he..hope it's embarrsing!lol

when is canimom due back? can't wit to her about the weding and christening!

right..best go do something useful while 'the boys' are asleep..teehee

goldenoldie · 01/04/2006 08:23

GG - How dreadful, really feel for you and your DH. Hope it goes well at hospital.

Diege · 01/04/2006 09:40

Morning everyone! Smile. Oh GG, what an awful thing to have happended Sad; sending lots of postive thought your way Smile.
BOB: wish I could claim the credit for 2 box method, but it was Londoner who let us in on it I think!. I cAn't even text, so would be a bit beyond me Grin.
Re: JK gossip...weelllll, you'll have to wait till the meet Grin, but I will try out my texting skills for BROWNIE's benefit! I suppose I have concerns over the 'language' I would have to use on yahoo (it may offend some people, though knowing you lot, probably not!), so best face to face when I can say things like 'you know!'and use hand gestures where appropriate! Shock.
Well, we are of to children's party this morning - a craft party (sinking heart expression) and I have agreed to help out. Didn't realise exactly what 'helping' meant though, and have been roped in for pre-party training, and then having to 'train' other parents. The family are German, and while I don't want to stereotype a whole nation... Grin Blush.
Right, better get dressed,
Speak later!
Diege Smile

Londoner · 01/04/2006 09:50

HelloSmile,

GG - How terrifying for you both. I hope dp makes a full recovery, what a lot for you both to cope with.

ChaCha, BoB, you're so right, it is nigh on impossible to keep up with eachother at times!

BTW, thanks Tex Smile. Love your tattoo stories! .... and how lovely to have a friend who's pg.... maybe takes the pressure off you for a while longer with your decision making?

Look out girls, it's April Fools' Day!

Hope you all have a happy one!

Londoner · 01/04/2006 09:54

Diege... we're cross posting again... with your party this morning........ why not bite the bullet, take the bull by the horns etc.. be super-efficient and pretend you're on Blue Peter or something, get into the role and you'll prob enjoy it! Good luck!

Tex111 · 01/04/2006 11:03

GG, how awful for your and DP! Two years, what a long time to wait to know whether or not his leg wll be OK. Do keep us posted and best wishes to both of you.

ChaCha, love 'nap naps'! I do that too. It's really embarrassing when I say something like that with friends who don't have children. I feel like I must have a big red flashing light on my head that says 'MOM'.

Nove, I'd love to post some of those tattoo pics but they're in a box somewhere at my parent's house. Must dig them out and bring them over one day. Great way to really embarrass the children.

Sarah, so sorry you're going through such a difficlut time. It does sound like you're coping well. Just know that we're all here if you ever need to vent. I'm sure you're doing a wonderful job with your girls. You obviously adore them and they'll feel that, even in hard times.

BoB, great to see you yesterday. How was your night out?

Londoner, how was your day with DP?

As for accents, you can imagine mine is pretty muddled. I used to try to keep it 'pure' by sticking to either American or English vocab and pronunciation depending on where I was at the time. Gave up on that when I stopped working and now it's one big mish mash. I'm surprised at how much Texan/American has survived because I'm really aware of it now that I hear it coming out of Toby's mouth! Phrases like 'supercool', 'oh man', 'you guys' and the dreaded 'it was like...', 'I was like...' Blush Very strange coming from a three year old.

Well, you'll all be very jealous because I've been talking to Mickey Mouse on the phone this week. At least that's what I told Tobes so he would quiet down and let me sort out our holiday to Disney (bad Mommy). We've been promising him a trip since before Rosie was born and we've finally booked it for June. Anyone else been and can pass on some tips?

Those of you with older children, have you ever had an issue with nightmares? Tobes has started having nightmares almost every night for the last two weeks. Sometimes he wakes up 3 or 4 times in one night. I've tried to gently ask if someone has upset him at school but I can't find a reason for the sudden change. Anyone else have experience with this?

OK, off to pilates and then Ikea today. Hope you all have a good weekend. Smile

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 11:17

ooh ikea tex! i'm jealous..night out is tonight! last night just met dp's colleaugues for a meal..then he went out and got truly hammered..came in at 3am having spent £30 on a taxi cos he missed the lst bus!lol..what a fool
he's drinking alka seltzer right now as I mde him chng a poo explosion nppy and he got a bit queasy, bleurgh
will have to get my own back and get drunk tonight

did ds/dh enjoy the school trip?
londoner.have emailed you re. the meet up..i can't wait!

lol at J.K gossip and doing 'hand gestures'
can't wait to hear it

browniechick · 01/04/2006 11:23

Morning All. Have already been caught out with an April Fool - by my goddaughter!!!!! Blush She phoned up demanding to know where I was because her daddy had got dinner ready (we are going down to stay with them for the weekend - NEXT weekend!!) I was like - have you phoned the right number? What are you talking about? Then she shouted April Fool down the phone and started howling with laughter!!!!! Silly me, hadn't even twigged! At least I made her day!!

GG - how awful about dps leg, can't imagine what you must have gone through last year, and are still going through now. Big hugs to you all.

Speak later, have a nice weekend.

Brownie & Thomas

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 11:25

lol b.c trying to think of one to do to d.p..but he's not in a very god mood..
isn't it the case that you have to do it before midday too or did i just invent that..lol

tex - realised I forgot to leave a tip yesterday...sorry!...i owe you a coffee next time! hehehee

goldenoldie · 01/04/2006 11:38

Tex - we have taken DS1 to the florida and the paris disney. The only tip I can pass on is be prepared to spend lots of time lining up/queing.

Every ride ends in a gift shop - so make sure you have plenty of money, and be prepared to wait to pay/que in every shop.

The food was pretty bad too - all fast food rubbish - but my DS loved that!

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 11:42

tex didn't read the thing about nightmares..my cousin used to suffer from terrible 'night terrors' . i did a thsis on it when i was doing psychology with the help of my aunt who now works for the nspcc doing dream anlysis.
I know this is less extreme. but I have some good literture I can give you on possible reasons, wys to combat them etc.

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 11:43

g.o - we spent a forune..and it was just me and d.p lol!
bet it's more fun with kids though..will hve to take O when he's bigger

Rodeo · 01/04/2006 12:59

Ooh not long got up!! Dp has took children to Karate at 9 and I've managed to keep the baby baby asleep by a mixture of feeding and having her toasty warm with me under duvet Blush We're both nicely refreshed now (I was at work last night til 12.30) I've just made a bacon and fried egg sandwich too with a big cup of tea - pity J's too young to appreciate one too! May have had to pay for her being asleep for too long this morning but I am out tonight and my mum's babysitting haha!

Disneyland Tex! Ooh I bet Tobes will love it! You do know you'll have to take Rosie in 3 years too now!! And then anymore 4 year olds you may have had Grin

Bob enjoy night out today, we can exchange drunken stories tomorrow! I fake tanned in preparation when I got back from work last night (about 1am) and it doesn't look to horrendous!!

Brownie, poor you being caught out this morning - When I was around 10, I poured water with a tiny bit of granulated coffee in it on our kitchen floor to make a rather convincing wee pool on April Fools Day for my parents, and then exclaimed 'Oh no, look what the cat's done'. Backfired though as my mum shot up, shouted 'That's it!!', grabbed my sleeping, elderly cat up by the scruff off the neck to chuck him out - I couldn't shout April Fool out quick enough - we were all a bit mortified!! Poor thing - died not long after, nothing to do with me though. I hope!!

Have a good time at the craft afternoon Diege!v Sounds fun! I made puppets for dd1 and her cousin yesterday and surprised myself with my creative ability. They were very good!

Right someone has had enough of her playmat x x x

Rodeo · 01/04/2006 13:03

Actually got up at 11.30 not nearly 1ish as my post suggests!!

And my fake tan doesn't look too horrendous

GarfieldsGirl · 01/04/2006 15:01

Hi everyone, thanks for all your support. Hopefully he'll be up and about quicker than expected, but i'll kepp you all posted. Smile

Tex - Owen goes through phases of having nightmares, I know how upsetting it can be, and not realy knowing why they are getting them. Fortunately he's quite good at going back down. The trick I use is to say something to make him smile, and tell him to think nice thoughts and he usually goes back down no probs and is ok for the rest of the night. I used to try to find out what was wrong when he first starte getting nightmares, but I found that upset him more. Maybe try talking to him during the day while he's settled, it may be easier for you to find out why then. Little one's imaginations are so much more open than ours and i think this is probably why they get more vivid dreams. Hope you don't have too many bad nights.

BoB - Have a good night tonight Grin

Rodeo - You too Grin

Diege · 01/04/2006 15:09

Phew, party over Grin. Really hard work actually, though it was enjoyable (did attempt Blue Peter demeaner LONDONER, sort of worked!) and the children loved making things Smile. Was under strict instructions not to let kids mix up paints, and to do things 'tastefully' which I'm afraid I flouted (it was noted Blush), but they all seemed to enjoy themselves (pretty hard to supervise 31 under 5s and expect them to decorate boxes 'tasefully, and not to put red brush in yellow pot - think I did quite well to get through it alive! Grin. Have a headache now, though have hairdressers appointment at 4, in advance of 6 hour appointment on Monday!!
I'm a fake tanner too RODEO; used to get it done in salon with spray gun, but can't bring myself to stand in front of a stranger, just wearing a thong these days!! I'm using the 'holiday sun' type lotions, to avoid 'mistakes' but they still take too well round ankles/heels etc, and I'm too lazy to bother with all the correct preamble!
Have a great night RODEO and BOB, you pair of lushes Grin. I'm just jealous...Grin. LOL about the cat's 'poo-wee'!! Poor thing! Told dd1 to tell DH there was a frog in the bedroom this morning, but by the time she's got downstairs it became a 'polar bear', so he was never going to go for it; strangely I was going to blame the cat too Grin.
Right, major crying from dd3,
Byee!

Tex111 · 01/04/2006 19:02

Never made it to Ikea. We headed out and had to pass the heath on the way - lovely, sunny day so we stopped and got out Toby's kite instead. Too good to pass up and we had a really good afternoon.

BoB, they had a great time at the museum yesterday. Came back with loads of photos of Toby and his friends. So sweet. And don't worry about the tip. I was impressed you had found enough money in the flat for a sandwich. All I ever find in the sofa seems to be worthless old Francs or bits of 100 year old chips. I would love to borrow a book on children's nightmares. I don't think I would worry as much if I understood it better. Thanks so much.

Rodeo, what kind of tanner did you use? I'd love to have a go but I'm so fair. Everything seems to streak.

Diege, which of the tanning lotions do you like best? I tried the Johnson & Johnson one but I'm so fair it just made me look as if I needed a bath. Maybe that new Nivea one would be better? And well done even attempting to get children to do something 'tasteful'. What a funny thing for someone to say. Surely when you're little is the time to use as much glitter and gunk as you please. Smile

GG, I'm glad to hear Tobes isn't the only one who's had nightmares. It so scary isn't it. Toby doesn't even remember it the next day. Did Owen ever remember waking up? How long before Owen grew out of it?

Londoner, I forgot to ask, if your stepdad taught at Trinity did you grow up in Cambridge? We lived there for six years and I still have a big soft spot for the place.

GO, must admit those are just the reasons I couldn't face Disney while pregnant. Long lines and greasy food would be just too much. Hope I'm a bit more resiliant now.

Brownie, we had a few April Fools here too this morning. Tobes and I put a raisin in the end of the toothpaste so when DH went to brush his teeth he thought it was a bug! Then when I was in the shower DH and Toby took all the towels and then hid all of my socks. Oh how we laughed. Smile

Diege · 01/04/2006 19:34

Evening all!Smile. Sounds like you had a good time kite-flying TEX; beats Sat queues in IKEA I'd say Grin. Agree with your comments about the party; if you can't get messy at a party, where can you! What I did find hard going was keeping calm and being 'nice' all the time with other peoples shall we say, 'challenging' children Grin; really hard not shouting, though strangely enough most of the parents of said children didn't stay.
Re: tanning lotions, I really struggle to find one that's just right. Like you I'm v.fair, and have struggled with Johnsons. At the mo I have a Clarins one (body lotion with tiny bit of tanner), but I still come out streaky. Have heard the new Dove one is good? LOL at raisen in toothpaste trick; will def. save that up for next year Smile.
Watching 'Crash' tonight on DVD, should be good if I can stay awake Smile
Diege Smile
