The lights were broken at Blackwall Tunnel apparently. I got on the coach at 5.30 and walked in the door at 7.45! Funnily enough the traffic has been great during the Olympics - it's only been taking 50 minutes to get home most days!

On sterilising, we only do freya's bottles now because of the bacteria risk with the formula.

seven77 · 07/08/2012 21:51

I still sterilise but only because I make them in advance and keep in the fridge. If I was making them fresh or using cartons I probably wouldn't bother. Mothercare sell bottles you can sterilise in the microwave (ie without needing a steriliser), once DS was only having a couple of bottles a day we just used one of those and chucked the steriliser.

dsm not long now, are you nervous or just excited? What a rotten time to be ill though, hope you shift it soon, and that you're better soon too air.

missree ((hug)), that sucks.

Hope you had a great time at the Olympics kate. I booked tickets this morning for the Paralympic wheelchair basketball, only £15 each! I also booked a hotel room so we can go down the day before. DH doesn't know yet, I might keep it a surprise, we didn't really do anything for his 40th as Eva was only 3 months old.

Good day here, we had beef stew and done foot paintings in the garden.

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 22:16

Oh we should throw a virtual hen night for dsm! We should pick one evening -tomorrow or Thursday perhaps, - and open a thread for us to post fun advice before she ties the knot. Grin

Kitty5824 · 07/08/2012 22:21

Kate I live less than half a mile from Wicksteed Park!

LittleMissFlustered · 07/08/2012 22:27

Some arse rough a souped-up hair dryer jut went screaming past my house and woke Octoboy up. There are no words.

OP posts:
OiMissus · 07/08/2012 23:09

I bet it had: two white stripes over it's roof (male driver), playboy bunny stickers (female driver).

aethelfleda · 07/08/2012 23:31

Don't forget tasteful strip uv under-lifghting. It's probably a Corsa with the exhaust sawn off. Saddos.

Figgygal · 08/08/2012 07:20

Excellent work we had a 6.30 wake up and no nappy leakage......that's good in this house.

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 07:31

Well done figgyboy!
No change here, I'm afraid. A restless night, followed by a 3:40 screaming wake up. I tried giving nurofen in an old bottle teat (as advised) in the middle of a milk feed, that went really well. Thanks seven. ( i think it was seven who has just saved me a couple of quid as I don't have to buy medicine-dummies.) But it didn't really settle him, he was awake and restless for ages. Knackered again this morning.
Tonight I'll try to give it during his 11pm feed, and see if that takes us any longer into the night.
I hope tonight is a nice night, my weight is creeping up so I'm thinking of getting BOi in his jimjams, getting him snug in his pram and taking him for a march up the street before dinner. We'll see.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 08:29

Seven I'm nervous & excited at the same time Smile

Oi A virtual Hen party sounds fab! Hope BOi turns a corner soon tho.

Well Done to Figgyboy for overnight Grin

LMF Bunch of idiots. They don't even look 'cool'. Hope you got Octoboy back to sleep ok.

Well a very good friend of mine found our her partner has been cheating on her and is not even sorry Sad so today will be rallying around her and help her with getting free of him.

LittleMissFlustered · 08/08/2012 08:29

Souped up hair dryer was a moped of some sort. They fiddle with them so they scream really loudly:(

Dreadful night. No teeth tht Ivan see, but doesn't mean there aren't any about:/

Going to try to take the horde out for the day. We're suffering cabin fever so a jaunt is in order. it's looking like York or the seaside.

LittleMissFlustered · 08/08/2012 08:32

Cross posts DSM. I've been that person, hope she's ok in the long run:(

The Virtual Hen Partyis here! Come and post a friendly warning for dsm!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 09:30

Marked my place Grin

KateM77 · 08/08/2012 09:49

Had a great time thanks seven. Fantastic that you got tickets and hotel, I bet the wheelchair basketball will be amazing to watch.

I thought you were over that way now kitty, lovely to have that on your doorstep. I couldn't believe the boat thing that slides down the hill and goes splash at the bottom was still there. It was DD's favourite!

Up 3 times in the night with DS. Had been hoping for a quiet day today as DD is at nursery, but BIL and FIL arrived last night for a couple of nights. DH only told me on Sunday that they were coming.

8 month check with HV today for DS.

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 12:52

Grrr! Notes from the HV - curtesy of the NHS PCT - still go to my old, old address. So I have missed notices about immunistaion and invitations to baby massage. Luckily I have this thread to let me know what to expect so I can check with the GPs about important stuff... I contacted the NHS PCT about our change of address and got a silly note "What do you want us to do? What are you telling us for" (errr, because you're sending me stuff to the wrong address!). they said, your GP will inform everyone who needs to know. Well evidently not!
Called GP (again) about this. Surgery says, oh yes, we make the notification and everyone will know. I know this is not the case, as it didn't work last time... maybe you could ring the clinic.
Just rang the clinic. They new nothing about the changes of address and confirm that no one tells them anything and that they rely on the mums to inform them. I'm not the first to miss important notifications. They are now sending Ali's details to my new area clinic, and they will organise the 8mth check.
Grrrr!

MissRee · 08/08/2012 12:55

Ha! I had my own NHS frustrations yesterday too, Oi! I've been waiting for referrals for me (ultrasound scan) and Freya (paed about her Tongue tie) to be told that F's hadn't gone through properly and mine hadn't even been done!!! 6 weeks we've been waiting already Sad

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 12:58

they new nothing... ho-de-ho .. Knew, sorry. curtesy, immunistaion etc.
Looks like the NHS are not the only imbeciles. (...Maybe they've only had one cup of coffee today also.)

seven77 · 08/08/2012 18:50

oi I can't take the credit, I think it was hawthers.

missree that's awful, good job you chased it up.

dsm sorry about your friend, I hope she's ok and can see that she's better without him.

DH has finally started laying the new floor in the dining room! We've been to the library and a friends house trying to stay out of the way. We've got our valuation for the mortgage tomorrow, so much tidying to do once the DC's are in bed!

I'd forgotten about the 8 month check, not heard anything yet so I'll chase it up.

KateM77 · 08/08/2012 19:35

8 month check was fine, and I like the new bookstart bag and books. DD 'helped' me read them to DS tonight.

Hope the tidying and valuation goes well seven

GeeandTee · 08/08/2012 19:37

Not heard anything about an 8 month check here either, but then I never go to HV clinic. What does it involve?

DS has decided to start potty training and we had two wees and two poos on the potty/toilet today. He still wants to keep his nappy on though. Is that a good idea? I'm tempted to be totally led by him on this as don't want to pressurise and not sure if his bladder control is good enough yet, or should I buy him pants and go cold turkey?

Its not an ideal time as we go on holiday in 2 weeks and I don't fancy having to carry a potty/spare clothes around everywhere! Or is he likely to be fully dry before then? I am all a bit confused by it!

NorthernChinchilla · 08/08/2012 19:45

Oh Bob, my DP does that as well Kate. His family would 'announce' they were coming to visit in a few days' time, and he'd generally let me know that day, although sometimes a little while later.... I'm sure his family think I'm the one being funny, but in my book people agree to visit together, rather than unilaterally stating that it will happen.
Drives me mad, though it happens far less now.

Hope you got a good day's jaunt LMF, York or the seaside sounds lovely. We used to call those idiot teenagers on mopeds lot 'bee in a matchbox', because it sounded so whiney and angry, yet so pathetic at the same time. Sorry to hear that you'd been on the receiving end of some crappy behaviour, hope time and the DCs have made you feel a bit better (hug).

We had the forms arrive for DS's nursery today, wibble, so we'll have to get those sorted and sent off, and the money arranged, etc. All the little things he needs, the wellies, the photo, slippers. We get the settling in sessions too, and I've booked the week off work before he starts, a) so we can have some time together as a family, and b) to get the settling in days that week so he gets used to it.
How has time gone so fast, HOW?!!

Off to join the daftness on the DSM Virtual Hen Party thread! Grin

Figgygal · 08/08/2012 19:48

Another one thinking "8month check"???? Must see if we need to book 1

Fajitas for tea yum!!

KateM77 · 08/08/2012 19:57

I think it varies depending on where you are. The red book has it as a 12 month check, but HV's here do 8 months instead. They got on touch with me to book it. They just talk through developmental stuff, take some measurements and give youa bookstart bag. Have to make appt to see GP too.

Love the stair climbing video on FB...what a clever BOi!!

northern the most irritating thing is DH can't understand why I get annoyed to be told rather than asked, given no notice, and when we already have a busy week including my mum staying the night before. Much bed changing involved. Oh, and DH went to play squash last night too, so I had to do it all Angry

Best stay away from the hen party...I may not give good advice right now!
