Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

for your DH and family kate, that's eeally annoying!

Fear not northern, t'will be OK at nursery I'm sure even if it does cPst an arm and a leg . BJR how's your little one doing, are things settling down a bit as you all get used to the chang in routine? (gulp, I need to arrange a settling in sesh with the CM soon. that is going to be weird.)

We don't have 8 month checks over here: they weren't picking up things so have been discontinued in favour of some info in the red book and the general catchall of "if you're worried talk to your HV/GP".

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:15

We have 12 month checks here. However, am going to get Little Lady weighed tomorrow so might find out differently!

My friend is still in massive shock but taking it well with plenty of help from friends & family thanks Smile

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:31

Omg Hope nappy has burst. We have gel crsytles all over the bed sleepsuit and baby. We had to hover them up and put Hope in shower.

It was a size 3 nappy. The excma gel destroys the nappy a bit but this has never happen before :(

Im thinking about getting cloth nappies now as the disposable just completly fell apart!

aethelfleda · 08/08/2012 20:34

Most of the mums who've mentioned it seem to be in size 4's...
Happy to chat cloth offlist if you really are thinking of it, otherwise go up a size!

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:34

Also she has been sleeping alot for the last two days i have no idea if she is coming down with something or is having a growth spurt!

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:38

I only have one question about cloth nappies: do they leak or get damp at night? I would only use them at night and Hope sleeps thru so i dont want to wake her to change the nappy but her skin is sensative to liquid so it would have to keep the wee off her skin.

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:41

Damp on the outside i mean!

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:47

I think i would only need three and i can wash each morning withnormal wash and dry them on radiaters so its ok if they get oily from the gel. They would need to be 100% cotton.

The ones i have looked at have poppers on so they grow with child. I just need to sell the idea to dh cos he thinks £14 for one nappy is expensive.

i think i could buy one to see if it works and if so tgen get more.

AWomanCalledHorse · 08/08/2012 20:49

air, Tesco sell 'maxi' ultra dry nappies, DS leaks through the regular disposables (size 4) at night but the maxi one's are fantastic.
I don't use cloth nappies as night as they're really only good for 1 or 2 hours, even with the liner (not sure if boys wee more than girls but DS seems to love it).
for everyone Kate!

BOi looked lovely climbing the stairs! DS just stares at the ones he comes across and then ignores.

Is it sad that I'm really looking forward to potentially getting a bookstart bag? Hurrah for books!

I've got to book myself in with GP, my PMT is 100x worse than it was before pregnancy (is it hormonal?), if we weren't ttc#2 atm I would ask for a hystrectomy...any tips on what to ask for drug wise?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:55

Little Lady said her first word - Dada Sad DP is grinning from ear to ear!

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 20:59

air I bought bamboo nappies, and a whole plethora of liners. I didn't like how wet the nappies were, even after only 1-2 hours, so I gave up. I have a full "system" of bamboozle Stretchies that are unused. I will get around to selling them one day!
If you want to try one, pm me, and I'll pop one in the post next week.
(off to Denmark tomorrow - I really should go and get my bag ready...!)

MissRee · 08/08/2012 21:11

We have one bambino Mio that was a bounty offer freebie. I've only ever put it on her when she's done huge poops and I need to put something on her whilst I run her bath (and nappy free isn't convenient). I can't really see how well it would wash as it's an all in one type nappy and the fleecy liner thing isn't removable, it just pops out of it's hole and hangs there Confused

Freya's word of the week seems to be "blah blah blah" I'm sure it's cos she listens to mummy going blah blah blah all day Grin

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 21:12

If they are wet after 1 - 2 hours thats not great :(

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 21:15

Hope just screams "a a a a a a" then giggles when Aaron turns up Hmm

MissRee · 08/08/2012 21:18

Do you think she's trying to say his name or just random noise Air?

BJR · 08/08/2012 21:18

Well done to sky on the Dada and i'm sure she will follow it with Mama soon DSM

Don't think we have 8 month checks here either, not sure though.

DS was a bit more settled today, thanks for asking Aethel. Tooth number 5 had cut yesterday which probably wasn't helping matters when they were trying to feed him. Can feel another 3 coming through too, poor boy!

Well done for Boi and his stair climbing, I'm always suprised by how quick our babies are all growing.

DP suprised me by coming home from work early so he could put DS to bed while I had a nice relaxing bath, and then he cooked me dinner. It's really nice how much more confident he is with DS now. I'm out for a friends 30th on Saturday and I think it will be the first time that i'm confident that DP won't get stressed out by looking after DS on his own.

AWomanCalledHorse · 08/08/2012 21:20

'Mamama' is what DS says to me when he wants me, 'mamamamamax100' is his crying sound which makes it even more upsetting :(
I'm pretty sure he said 'burp' yesterday, typical bloke.

I'm not sure about execma gel but they recommend you don't use nappy rash cream with the cloth nappies air as it stops them being effective.
It's why we don't use them that much atm, think I'll use them more when we start toilet training next year.

BJR · 08/08/2012 21:21

Ah thats really cute Air sounds like she knows her big brothers name. Anytime I try to encourage DS to say anything I just get a big grin and Dada in return!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 21:23

BJR That's nice of your DH Grin

I think Sky has cut her bottom 2 teeth but not 100% convinced! Hmm

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 21:25

I think she is saying his name. He gets the best smiles and giggles. She crawls around after him and checks if he is in our room when she wakes.

It also sound like she said "yes" and "mum" and "dada" but i know it could just be conisedance and soon she will repeatedly say dadadada lol

it doesnt help that Aaron just roars or screams back at her!

aethelfleda · 08/08/2012 21:29

air, the reuseable nappies have a waterproof outer (it's called a "wrap), usually made of breathable plastic called PUL. This must NEVER be dried on a radiator or it will melt!!!: but most PUL wraps will dry in an hour hung on an airer.
The inner cotton/bamboo part of the nappy is what actually catches the wee: some makes have a polyester "staydry" layer and it does keep baby a lot drier if you can cope with the fact it's not 100% fibre. Also using disposable paper liners like littlelamb liners can make the nappy less wet feeling on the inside.

DS goes into his night nappy from 6.30pm to about 5am when he wakes, I use a Motherease Onesize Staydry plus a Staydry popper booster and a microfibre booster tucked under the booster (which in theory holds over a pint of wee). We use motherease Airflow (popper) wraps on the top and a bit of sudacrem. Not had any issues with leaks, nappy rash or nappy detatchment! However if you buy all those new a set will
Be £10 nappy & 2.50 booster & 2.00 microfibre & £9 wrap. You can buy almost all of those components "preloved" for about half the price but they really do work. Pm me if you'd like.

BJR · 08/08/2012 21:34

DS is the same with his big brother Air, DSS always gets the biggest smiles which he loves. DS also rarely stays still but will sit and watch his brother play for ages. It's lovely to see as DSS used to worry that DS wouldn't remember him as they only see each other at weekends, but its quite clear as soon as DSS comes in that he knows exactly who he is Grin

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 21:51

BJR that is really cute :)

Aaron will not leave Hope alone. He is always wanting to play with her or bath her or help change her nappy or feed her!

He is so ready to start school. He went to chester zoo with his cousin and ever since he wants to call him on the phone or go see him and said "i want my friend" or "me go to my friend home?".

It will be nice to spend the afternoons with Hope on my own as well :)

Re: nappy could you post a link to online shop to buy the night nappy? I have showen the post to dh and we are going to give it a go :)

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 21:55

But im not getting the paper liner as the gel is so oilyit would not work! I think its the cloth booster that i looked at getting and the cloth nappy with poppers on!

I would really like a recommented wedsite to buy it from as there is so meny on internet!

Thanks

aethelfleda · 08/08/2012 22:19

Right, this place has a sale on Motherease at the mo!

link to clean nappy machine

you want one motherease Airflow Wrap (get a Large if hope is 20lb as it has more growing room than the medium/large. My DS is still in his mediums and m/l but he's younger and skinny!)

You then want one Motherease Onesize Staydry (look down the list) and get two staydry boosters (one can tuck under the other, it saves you buying a microfibre one). Just line them up so that all the staydry layers are closest to her bum! Good luck with it (darn, I want some more of those if they're on sale! Restraint!!!)
