Oh yeah 10 days to go Grin

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 08:48

another horrid night here.
This time I tried to give him some nurofen, but the syringes just make him scream. so he didn't get any. I'm going to look for one of those dummy things that you can put medicine in.
Why don't they make tasteless medicine that you could mix in the milk. (Or do they?)
It was a v v v restless night again. He screamed at bonjela too. DH eventually took him into another room at 5 so I could try for another hour's sleep. But then I think geese had flown to the pondy thing nearby as there was much squawking going on. yawn!
There's a job going in the internal sales dept where I work. It might suit DH. It'll be another job that is going nowhere (development/career-wise), but it'll be a wage. We won't need to buy another car, or pay additional petrol - that's a huge bonus. But it will be weird having him sit outside my office...
We met here. He was the UK IT manager. It might be weird for him to come back in a different position.
I asked the guy in charge about it this morning. He really likes DH and didn't want him to leave. He doesn't see any conflict/problem with us being married. I said if they are looking for someone who is really a salesman, who will inject new verve and salesmanship into the (order-processing) team, then DH is not your man. But DH installed the software, and is more than capable of processing orders...
(sorry - wittering on - I'm using this post to evaluate my thoughts...)
You know what, it might not be bad at all! At first I wasn't keen. Mainly because I'd like him to earn more (we don't need more money, I'm not being greedy, it was just to take the burden off me - not that it's a burden, but you know what I mean - it would give us a bit more safety, or choices when no. 2 happens) but it could be good. This is where we fell in love. Grin
10 days dsm!!!

hawthers · 07/08/2012 08:54

oi we used to put DS1's medicine in a teat of a bottle if that makes sense. So put the teat in his mouth so he is sucking and then inject the medicine into the teat. You could always follow it up with a syringe full of milk? Think that is what they do in the neonatal unit too for older babies.

We gave neurofen before bed and he still woke at 3. Hmm not sure what to do now

AWomanCalledHorse · 07/08/2012 09:31

Medicine Dummy for Oi, you can get them in Boots. It's amazing!
How does BOi take teething powders? After a few days of going 'ahhh, ahh' & opening my mouth, DS now copies (even when Hulk style angry) so I have a chance to get the powder in.

DSM, we stopped sterilising at 4 months, didn't see the point of continuing once we'd started feeding him people food.
Any last minute wedding-y things you still have to do?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 07/08/2012 10:06

Oi was going to say Teetha teething powders or medicine dummy is the only other thing I can think of tbh.

AWCH yeah thought it was time to stop now Sky is 7months, almost crawling and eats everything in sight lol.

RE wedding, all I need to do is print to post box, guest book & candy buffet sign & decorate. Also wrap all the gifts. Neil better appreciate his lol Grin other than that it's just the logistics of making sure we've got everything boxed to go to hotel, money to pay for things on the day and just need to pick up the suits and my dress. that's it Smile

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 10:19

Medicine dummy - or bottle teat it is - I have quite a few smaller bottles I no longer use. That may work.
Teetha powder is different. I lick my finger and rub his gums. Tis like catnip. He loves it.
I don't sterilise bottles. I just wash and dry carefully. He puts everything in his mouth now so there's really no point!

mopsytop · 07/08/2012 10:29

I still sterilise bottles purely because formula is a breeding ground for bacteria and so I'd rather be extra careful. I just stick the (very thoroughly) washed bottles in Milton so it's not like it's a hassle. But I don't bother sterilising anything else. We had a good night yay! Just hung out washing and planning a long walk but it looks like it's about to lash grrrr

aethelfleda · 07/08/2012 11:09

I still sterilise bottles, but that's cos I make up batches every night for the next day, just add the right amount of boiling water to each and then use Avent three part dispensers to store the measured formula til it's needed. I don't bother with the mixing at 90 degrees thing cos our LO's have an active immune system now (and prove it by eating gribble at every opportunity). But teats and bottles can grow bacteria easily in milk residue (powdered milk is used as culture media in many science labs) so until he's one his bottles that I've made in advance will be well washed and sterilised. The exception is when we occasionally need a quick top up bottle when I'll take a clean bottle and use tap water.

Sorry the neurofen didn't do the trick hawthers! it's always beenagic cure-all juice for my three.

Looking forward to DH getting home sunday: he skyped the kids yesterday afternoon, and they loved it: DS thought it was very funny seeimg daddy in the computer (he was completely confused by a previous audio-only phone call). And the really scary thing is he's tryimg to pull to standing....aaargh!

Figgygal · 07/08/2012 13:00

I am still sterilising we have a microwave one so just stick the bottles and teats in it once we have them washed, it can be on while the kettle is boiling and they can both cool down at the same time. I guess because it is a well practised routine we will continue for a while longer.

Looking forward to the cycling tonight but not sure will be home from work in time i think pendleton is on at 5.25 and chris hoy at 6, i would usually have just left early to watch them but with the flat tyre yesterday and site visit 45 mins in the opposite direction down the motorway this afternoon cant see it happening. I didnt get to see DS this morning before i went to work as he had settled back into deep sleep and didnt have heart to wake him....missing him today.

Oh and just wanted to say how sad i feel about gary barlow and his wife's news about their little girl......very sad!!

mopsytop · 07/08/2012 13:14

God it's awful. I can't imagine the heartbreak of a stillbirth.

I chanced hanging out the laundry and going for my long walk. I'm soaked and had to put the laundry back in the machine to respin as it's so wet. Doh! But at least I got my walk in and minimopsy got a nice long nap in her little rain cocoon buggy.

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 14:00

Awful, awful news. Did the pg go full term?
I can't bear to think about how they must be feeling.

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 14:07

Yes- the full 40 weeks. Heartbreaking. Sad

BJR · 07/08/2012 14:10

Hi all, i'm back from spending a relaxing week and a half with family and am now back at work. DS has done his first half day in nursery today and i'm feeling a bit unsure about my choice of nursery but will leave it for a few weeks to see how it settles.

All getting close now DSM very exciting Smile. I stopped sterilising at 6 months, mainly as the steriliser happened to break at that point!

We are also having very restless nights, I find them ok to cope with when co-sleeping as I can soothe him as soon as he stirs but when he's in his cot I don't think I wake quick enough for him to settle straight back down.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/08/2012 17:18

It's awful about Gary B's little girl, Poppy, poor family.

Feeling slightly sorry for myself; I've only got one filling but I had to have it replaced this afternoon (after 20 years!). I've not had any work done since that old filling, barring braces but that's not really comparable, and I was NOT a good dental patient as a kid.
My dentist told my Mum he needed a stiff G&T after treating me, I was so bad Blush
So, to summarise: epidural and C-section, gimme, gimme and show me the way so I can skip to surgery, filling replaced, my trousers are damp with sweat.
But handled it OK in the end Grin!

Hello BJR, glad to see you back and sounding relaxed. What's making you unsure about the nursery, just a feeling or something that's happened/you've been told?

We get DS Skyping his Grannies most weekends aethel, I think it's great! And our little man is doing the same- he's trying to crawl and pull himself up at the same time, so is very mobile but not in any sort of smooth action iyswim Confused

We're still sterilising DSM, but only on the grounds that we only run the dishwasher every couple of days and it's easier to just do the microwave steriliser. And it's all getting very exciting, can't believe it's next week!

How's his black eye looking figgy?

And did anyone else see the first advert for the new series of Dr Who?! Whoooooooooooooooop!

BJR · 07/08/2012 17:39

It's mostly a going back to work wobble I think. Just got to keep telling myself its only day one and its going to be strange. Also need to remind the nursery that i'm happy for them to let him feed himself and i'm not bothered if he doesn't eat much. Then hopefully I won't be met with a screaming baby that the staff were entusiastically pushing spoons at as he tried to get away Sad

Glad you managed to survive the filling replacement!

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 07/08/2012 17:46

Hope has two bottom teeth and i think the top one is coming. She keeps biteing my nipple at the end of each feed and smiling im not impressed lol

i have a chest infection and have started antibiotics.

Air had his MMR injection today ready for school.

Its hard work having both kids home and being ill.

CherryBlossom27 · 07/08/2012 18:02

Hi all,

I'm still sterilising bottles, but I'm not sterilising anything else e.g. cups, spoons, bowls etc. one of the HV's said to continue sterilising until the baby is 12 months old. I've got a Philips Avent Microwave steriliser, so it's very easy to sterilise the bottles after washing them up.

Figgy hope LO's bruise is better soon!

I don't know what has happened but I'mso emotional after having DS, I cried when Jessica Ennis won gold, burst into tears when Dh's little sister cried, and you can imagine I had a good cry for Gary Barlow and his wife's baby. I can't even start to imagine what that must be like. Puts DS and his teething issues into perspective that's for sure. I am so thankful DS is healthy and happy, really that is all that is important.

Air hope you're feeling better soon! At least you're on antibiotics now so they will help.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 07/08/2012 18:25

Northern Well Done for being brave at the dentist. Now if only I could find the courage to go! Smile

Air Hope you feel better soon and biotics kick in soon.

Well Done Sir Chris Hoy & The GB Dressage team.

Got a throat full of razor blades & mouth ulcer on back right side of my tongue Sad DP said their is a throat infection going around - best not of bloody caught it and if I have it best of shifted by next week!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 07/08/2012 18:26

Re Gary Barlow and his wife's loss. I can't even imagine how they are feeling. Makes me thankful I have to beautiful and healthy children x

OiMissus · 07/08/2012 19:10

I feel bad about not sterilising now. In a vague attempt at defence, I'm only using ready made formula because I am a lazy arse.
Well done for dentistry. I need to make an appt now BOi has teeth. I want advice. It's gonna be tough teaching a LO to brush. I hate toothpaste, I hate the sight of foam, it makes me retch. Sad
I used to not like the dentists at all, but now I have a nice one. (but I still haven't visited him in 2 yrs. it's 20 miles away.)
Hope the ab's kick in soon air.
We are all so incredibly lucky.

LittleMissFlustered · 07/08/2012 19:13

Flying through, just want today that VP was robbed.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/08/2012 19:42

Yep, again. Ridiculous.

Your DS is the total spoon refuser then BJR? Hope you settle back in at work OK, it's a wobbly time but lots of us have gone through it.

Don't feel bad Oi, most of us are only doing it for convenience! My DM is horrified by the lack of sterilising I do, as DS munches, dribbles and investigates his way through life Grin. Bottles are the only thing I bother with as I am a slattern as I believe in the 'get some good germs down yeh, helps wi' immunity, like' school of thought. Some stuff goes in the dishwasher, some gets wiped, and most some gets just left....

Thanks all- tooth feels weird and rough because of all the new filling stuff in it. Will gingerly eat my soup for tea, and try to Mum up!

Heavens DSM, AF and a throat infection, you must be feeling off it...really hope everything shifts for the wedding, that would be so unfair.

Don't worry Cherry, I'll join you with the buckets of tears and tissues post baby. It's so weird, isn't it, just finding yourself welling up uncontrollably over everything and anything?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 07/08/2012 20:14

Northern I know AF will of shifted by weekend so that a plus. Just not a good time for a throat infection. I can barely talk my throat is so sore and swollen Sad

Whilst eating dinner earlier on (chicken casserole, rice & extra veg) Sky helped herself off DP plate to some Courgette and she loved it. So much do she tried to help herself to a bit if chicken & rice lol.

Sky's asleep. Darcie's in her room sitting watching HSM. DP is downstairs working, I'm in bed with a hot cup of tea watching 'lympics.

MissRee · 07/08/2012 20:18

Got home so late tonight that I didn't even get to kiss Freya goodnight Sad

Have been skim reading - hope all the poorly peeps feel better and bumpy babies are on the mend.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/08/2012 20:47

Is it the Olympics MissRee or is it just the nature of the journey? That's rotten though, poor you Sad
