Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

Hmmm: bed at 22.30. Feed at 03.20 & 05.50!!!?? Feels like I'm dealing with a newborn again & it's getting me down. Am worried that Em needs me to get back to sleep & I do not want to go there again (my 4yo was a terrible sleeper until pretty recently). This has all coincided with me planning my return to work & I have less time than before. Em not going to sleep till 22.30, then wakening twice & up early. When the heck am I going to read up/plan, eh??! This was not how I saw this all going in my head!!!!!!

Gave F some cooked broccoli to play with yesterday. I thought he'd spat most of it out but we had a stinky poo this morning with a few undigested bits in it so maybe he accidentally swallowed some. Still probably one of the toughest nights I've had. He didn't feed at every waking but wasnt always happy to go on his tummy so lay him on his back half the night and then had to flip him when he woke himself up trying to roll over.

For the last two weeks I've been either doing ds1's birthday prep, freelance work or prepping for ds1's school start. So tonight's the first time I don't have anything that needs doing post bedtime I think
I'm going to bed as soon as the boys are asleep Smile.

digitalgirl · 11/09/2012 13:59

Oooh update: F sat in his chair for 10 minutes licking a spoon covered in avocado mush! Think bland is the way to go for now.

hugandroll · 11/09/2012 20:19

sweary vent alert

I'm so fucking pissed off with people telling me A needs food. He doesn't need anything other than milk at 19 weeks and doesn't even want it (have tried a couple of times after being made to feel guilty for starving my baby)

I tried baby porridge and he had the shits. I tried banana and he vomited, therefore I have come to the conclusion he is not ready. I am also in no rush and am fed up of being told otherwise.

It's so bad now that they are saying I have to try baby rice. I don't want to give him baby rice. I did that with ds1 along with the jars and rusks etc and he had the most horrendous cracked, bleeding eczma, chronic constipation requiring firstly lactulose then movicol and now suffers from asthma. May or may not be related but I decided this time to only feed A what I would eat myself (fruit, veg, meat, basically normal food). The only baby exception I was going to make was the porridge but it didn't agree so it's going in the bin.

I tell people my plan (but not my reason, not their business and they would just tell me to get a grip) and they look at me like I have told them I will be weaning on arsenic. I am not bothered when he has food, if he wants it before 6 months I will happily purée, if not I will mix and match finger food and mashed/purée dinners but don't want to give baby rice.

"but hug, you must start with baby rice because it's bland and gentle on their tummy and he may not be ready for fruit and veg".

If he's not ready for fruit and veg he's not ready for solids, simple as.

Btw I am not having a dig at anyone who used baby rice but I have chosen not to use it myself and feel that decision should be respected.

Rant over

So how is everyone else? A loves sitting up (can only do this holding hands). Still no rolling but he's stronger on his front (but still doesn't much like it lol). holly I tried the bed thing today and vintage will go with your idea tomorrow.

HenriettaChicken · 11/09/2012 20:32

if he's not ready for fruit & veg, he's not ready for solids.

Damn right, Hug. After a chat with HV this morning I've been able to tell my mum that DS isn't ready for solids. HV said only in rare cases & some bigger babies was it necessary to wean babies before 6 months. EBF-ing is all DS needs.

Little bit of a shame my mum was so much happier to listen when I told her what HV said than when I told her I didn't think he needed it, but hey ho.

Stick to your guns, Hug. You'll know when it's time. And then he'll be on solids for ever...so there really is no rush! Grin

Btw, after going back to EBF yesterday, DS slept so much better last night...9 till 6.50! And now, at 21weeks he's 15lb 15oz.

HollyPockett · 11/09/2012 22:02

hug I'm giving the baby rice a miss too. Something just tells me to. It bloats me right out, so maybe that's what my reasoning is, I don't know. DD is 20 weeks today and 16lb on the nose :) she's still not ready for weaning I don't think so I'm going to get as close to 6 months as possible. I'm thinking carrot will be her first taste of solids. The smell of banana makes me want to vomit so I'm dreading her wanted a banana!!!

Hurrah got the sitting up. If DD wasn't so interested in her feet, I think she'd stand half a chance. Instead she just leans fwd for her toes!!

newmummyvicky · 12/09/2012 10:08

hugandroll
stick to your guns, you know when he is ready for solids, mother knows her child best......
I waiting till 22wks with L, 19 wks is still very young. The baby rice reminds me of wall paper paste, can't be very tasty!!!!
L seems happier on sweet potato, carrot and banana. I do porridge in the morning. But I agree on a diet of fruit and veg! :) we are doing a bit of finger too, she loves feeding herself.
I had some good nights, with just one wake-up. But Boobs was really full/sore other night, woke up at 230 and luckily L woke just after wanting a feed. Hopefully boobs will adjust soon?????
Last night 10pm dream feed didn't work feeds at 12, 4, and up at 745.
The night before just 9, 245am and 7, then she slept in our bed till 930am- can U believe it?????
I think she was catching from rectic wk end- poor thing!

Hope everyone else is well? :)

Flisspaps · 12/09/2012 10:25

Go hug Grin I think some people see anything different to their way as a criticism of their choice, even if research has moved things on so push to get you to do things how they did.

I personally don't see the point in baby rice, as there's no need to wean on a bland flavour or texture (I imagine it had a place when weaning at 12-16w was advised) but then I am a lazy sod and so won't be mashing or pureeing anything either.

If I wouldn't eat it, I won't expect the DC to eat it.

DS now sits in his highchair at meals but isn't unaided, the strap is holding him up, so all he gets is an empty spoon to wave about. He's 21w now, and very interested in watching us eat (he's also interested in the car keys but don't think he's ready to drive yet!)

Am planning on getting a couple of Antilops as soon as I can. I wrestled the cover back on one of my Chicco seats and realised what a PITA getting it on and off is. And some of the frames are rusting Sad

digitalgirl · 12/09/2012 13:18

hug can't believe people are pressuring you to wean! My dad said something along the lines of 'you have to now or you'll have difficulty later'. I just smiled and nodded.

No luck with avocado today. Was far too tired at lunchtime to enjoy himself. Woke every 2 hours from 1:30am. Feeding for 20-30 minutes each time [stareyface]. Barely napped this morning and is now feeding in his sleep. Ds1 starts full-time school a week on Monday - I think I'm going to try and get ds2 into a feeding and napping routine then as he's just too bloody distracted all day to feed properly and is definitely making up for it at night. After sleeping so wonderfully for the first 15 weeks most nights are broken now - he maybe has a good night where he only wakes once maybe once a week.

hugandroll · 12/09/2012 14:23

digital that sounds hard, hope you get sleep back on track soon.

I think A has cut his first tooth. He's been really upset this afternoon and I had a feel of his gums and there's a sharp bit bless him.

Tried some carriers today at my friends and I like the connecta but can seem to find them 2nd hand Confused.

hugandroll · 12/09/2012 14:25

fliss but logic says if ds is staring at the car keys he must be ready to drive. You are depriving him by not arranging lessons and he will either never learn to do it or will be really fussy over what cars he eventually drives and then probably won't buy one or some other random crap

LaTristesse · 12/09/2012 16:31

Love it hug! Do it your way: your baby.

Here DD has decided she's moved into my bed. I used to haul her put of her Moses basket when she woke for milk and feed her lying down, so I could maximise my shut-eye, but for the past couple of nights she's just stayed there noshing in her sleep. Any attempt to return her to the basket when I wake with a stiff back is met with grumbling so she's stuffed back on the boob and off we nod again. These baby days are so brief in the scheme of things I think I'll take the snuggles now and worry about it later!

Various foods tried, not much gone in. Then she gets annoyed and lobs the whole lot over the side! BLW is a hoot!

Flisspaps · 12/09/2012 19:00

hug you're right. Clearly if I'd been given car keys as a baby I'd be driving now WinkGrin

Last day of ML for me! I've been off since Christmas though so can't complain. Start work tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it!

Strange day here, DH is a Liverpudlian, we are a house of LFC fans and so we've watched the Hillsborough coverage all day. We had You'll Never Walk Alone played as we walked out of our wedding. Tears have been shed. Fittingly, DS's birthday is 15 April, and DH said now that date is a cause for celebration and not just sadness and memorial.

It's sad what happened at hillsborough and horrendous it could have so easily been prevented.

Good luck for tomorrow Thanks.

Bunsouttheoven · 13/09/2012 21:22

I need to post, it's been so long you've dropped off my I''m on' listSmile

So we all currently have stinking colds.

Where we are at (22 weeks)
Not weaning yet
Not sitting yet
Mostly hates tummy time
Still only sleeps next to/on me or pushchair/car rides
Can roll back onto front but cries when he gets there!
smiley & giggly
Looks like a tooth is imminent.

That's about all. I'm just rushing about like a blue arsed fly mostly, trying to keep three kids, a dog & occasionally a man happy. Bloody knackered but they are worth it. Grin

HollyPockett · 13/09/2012 22:15

DD has an evil cold too buns.

She's gagging on the phlegm when she's laying on her back and has been sick three times because of it. She's asleep in her bouncy chair at the moment but that's not helping as she keeps waking up in it. Urgh. I see a looooong night ahead

JambalayaCodfishPie · 14/09/2012 07:04

Snap! I have a cold, as do both DDs. DP
is lording it over us extolling the virtues of extra Vit C. I've been up at least ten times in the night so he really needs to shut up. Grin

DD2 struggling for breath on her back but crying on her front. Wants to sleep on me but it's not practical when I'm sneezing and snotty too. Sad

At least we have nothing to do today except catch up on sleep. Smile

hugandroll · 14/09/2012 10:38

I think there's a lot of colds going around, we were a bit bunged up last week but not as bad as you lot.

buns ds2 is 19 weeks and not weaning, sitting, rolling, hates tummy time etc. he does laugh but not for me, however he is full of smiles, loves cuddles and is just blooming gorgeous. He'll get there at some point, ds1 had low muscle tone and was really behind with milestones but you wouldn't even know now.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 14/09/2012 11:04

We're all ill too :(

DS2 (21 weeks tomoz) is part weaned when I can be bothered, I am a horrible mother! he's probably averaging about two meals a day
normally smiley and giggley, but bloody miserable the last few days,
just starting to sit up (can do a few seconds),
Can roll both front to back, and back to front, but doesnt like doing either and cries
Bottom left canine is just through the gum, looks like middle two teeth are just under the gum
I last had him weighed about a month ago, and he was only 8lbs lighter than DS1 (2 next month), so he must be even closer now! He is a monster child Grin
He is pretty much cosleeping now, too big for the moses basket

JambalayaCodfishPie · 14/09/2012 13:15

Poor DD has been asleep, on me, for 90mins - that's epic for her, normally only averages 30mins. She slept for the entire school run this morning too- over a hour. Sad

newmummyvicky · 14/09/2012 13:38

Hi sorry to hear some off U and your babies, are unwell. Not picked up any colds yet!

Lyra is still only sleeping 5-6hrs at night
Sitting up probally, but now hates lying back for dressing and nappy changing, and car seat.
Loves tummy time, aways has! And is moving backwards, a bit scary as we have no stairgates yet- must sort out soon!
Feeding solid breakfast and tea.
No teeth yet, but some days upset with pain!

Daddy is back to work now after 6 days for the christening, Lyra woke up when put down in cot for nap, he has spoilt her by sleeping on him! Oh well. Mummy is hear now. I'm just letting her sleep on me too. I had to work for 2 hrs this morning. I left her with my friend, her little ones the same age. She said she was fine. My mum who I see loads of is on hols for a month. So really on my own when dh works for 4 days! :(

newmummyvicky · 14/09/2012 13:57

Correction just put L down for a nap, having a pack of crisp and a coffee- is it only 2 o clock? its been a long day already!

HenriettaChicken · 14/09/2012 16:59

Sorry to hear the lurgy's hitting so many of you. We have escaped so far...

The turning of the seasons, complete with bugs, and the fact that my parents present for DS has arrived has got me thinking about Christmas. Has anyone decided what to get for their little 8-9 month old?
