Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

Sounds like a tough time, Beyond. I'm so glad you posted. I've been through times like that pre-family, and I think you're doing amazingly well. Keep going and don't be too tough on yourself.

We had our final jabs yesterday, and DS was very brave. Tears at the time, and some bewilderment, followed by LOTS of sleep. He woke up earlier than usual (5.45am instead of 7-7.30am) but then he went to bed slightly earlier too. He is now feeding like nothing I've never known! He normally has about 2-2 1/2 hours on the boob a day and he's already had 2 so far! And it's only midday. Not sure how much is hunger, and how much is comfort. Not sure it matters, either - I'm not going anywhere. He feels slightly warm, but not feverish. This could just be because it's bright and cold here today and he's my little hot water bottle! I'll keep an eye on it, though.

How's everyone else?

Hug - how lovely to have a quiet day with the little one. Enjoy it. :)

VintageNancy · 06/09/2012 17:45

Sorry you're having a hard time Beyond - sounds like you're getting lots of help, hope the new ADs help you.

I posted in Chat earlier about a run-in I had with a woman yesterday when I was walking E around the block trying to calm her and help her to sleep - she asked me if she was my child, told me there was clearly something wrong with her and that she was trying to tell me something by crying. I'm still dwelling on it but feeling a bit better today! I need to get a thicker skin I think!

Flisspaps · 07/09/2012 07:42

Vintage Angry you should have rammed the stupid woman's legs with the pram!

Beyond Hope the new meds do the trick. If not, then BF to 6mo is brilliant anyway - the whole family benefit from you being well (and more importantly, you) so that has to take priority Smile

A reasonable night last night, DS slept fairly well and only woke briefly (then instead of rooting and crying for ages and needing the light on actually latched straight on in the dark) so this morning I feel great. He must have thought he needed to do something about my increasing rattiness and let me sleep!

Morning Ladies. Writing this from a hospital bed as me and DD2 were hit by a car last night.

Both ok, but DD2 bumped her head so needs observation. I managed to push DD1 out of the way.

Hospital wards are not nice places to be. Hopefully we won't be here much longer. Sad

marshmallowpies · 07/09/2012 08:25

Jam oh my goodness, hope you are both home soon & fully on the mend!

My trials seem fairly minor in comparison but I am dealing with a big increase in dirty nappies - 6 or more a day instead of the usual 1 or 2, but they haven't really changed colour or anything like that.

I know that 5 dirty nappies a day can be quite normal, but when I've had to do 2 changes in half an hour I begin to worry...my neighbour had a similar experience & took her baby to the docs and was told 'come back in 2 weeks if it's still happening'. Confused

DD is perfectly happy of course - if she seemed to be in distress I'd take her straight to the docs. Hmm...will see how things go today...

HenriettaChicken · 07/09/2012 09:41

That's terrible, Jambalaya! You're in the right place, but it's true - being in hospital sucks. Take good care.

I'm being very brave today and will be going back to the town's 'bumps and babies' group. It's for babies until they can move on their own. I'm not so much of a joiner, so I'm slightly apprehensive - and will be walking in as DH is out today.

Wish me luck!

Flisspaps · 07/09/2012 10:36

Jam bloody hell, hope you're both OK and that you can escape soon!

marshmallow DS is the champion of pooing in a fresh nappy - some days he doesn't go at all, others he goes several times and I'll barely have him dressed before he does it again, only to do another within an hour. DD thinks its hilarious and every time tells me that he's 'done a poopydoopy, pooppoopydoop' and blows a raspberry Hmm

hugandroll · 07/09/2012 11:34

jam I'm sorry to hear that, I hope the driver stopped! How are you both doing? It must have been a shock. I really hope you get better soon.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/09/2012 12:39

hug No he didn't. Luckily there were many witnesses and police were able to track the vehicle pretty quick.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 07/09/2012 12:42

Fliss, DS1s fave word is...

"poo-splosion!!"

Shock what an utter twat to drive into a mum and two babies and not even stop! Glad they've been caught.

Jellybellyrbest · 07/09/2012 13:44

Beyond & Jam: so sorry to hear about your troubles. Beyond: depression's an awful thing to deal with, but sounds as though your HCP are on the job. If you have to give up BF earlier am sure it wouldn't do DS any harm. Having a healthy mum is really important. Good luck.
Jam; whaaat? OMG hope you're both doing ok. Glad DD2 not injured...what a twat the driver is.

Henrietta: good luck. Not much of a Joiner here either & I feel your pain.

Odd few days here with Em. Since Monday (back to school day) she's been waking between 05.30 & 06.30. Back to sleep for an hour or two then apart from thus morning when she stayed up. Up last night at 03.20 also!!! Tried teething gel & dummy but she gulped for 10 mins so was clearly hungry!?? She's been changing nap times & lengths, feeding 3ish hourly instead of 4 & feeding to sleep instead of self settling with her thumb. WTF!!??

Caved in to DMs insistence that she needs solids (5mths on Tue next) & gave her sweet potato last night. In fairness, nine cane back out & she was like a little bird opening it's beak every time the spoon was produced!! Still not convinced though & hate being unsure that I'm doing the right thing...was so hoping to wait till she was closer to 6mths.

Jellybellyrbest · 07/09/2012 14:00

'None came back out'..that should've said. Have smashed my iPhone screen so my typing's worse than usual!! Also meant to say; was surprised at the volume of the sweet potato Emily actually ate. 5-6 tsps. That's quite a lot for her first solid feed isn't it?

marshmallowpies · 07/09/2012 17:01

After several hours of doing a nappy change every 30 mins I came to the conclusion it was diarrhoea I was dealing with - called doctors and was told 'as long as she's not vomiting too, and is happy/not feverish or lethargic, just keep feeding her & it will pass'.

Have been BFing on and off all day, and giving bottles too. She was in a good mood this morning but now miserable- think her bottom must be a bit sore Sad. It's like having a newborn again....

HenriettaChicken · 07/09/2012 18:43

Fart. Grin. Fart. Grin. Faaaaaart. Giggle. Grin

I love my son!

Thaleia · 07/09/2012 18:57

thanks Fliss. I tried to feed him every 2hrs or so today and we'll see if this makes a difference. We had 30 degrees today, so he might have needed and taken it just because it's hot!

Yes, he's doing a communications course and I hope that this will help. DH spoke to his boss again re his performance and he's not in the bottom 2, which is a relief!!!

If R wakes up at 1am tonight, I spoke to my mum and we'll try to calm him for 15mins before I feed him, to see if it's hunger or just "because he can". If he's hungry, I need to give him a day or two more in cooler weather before we try again. But I want some solution before I leave here.

"Moral" Questions: I love being home, love the help, love to have loving people around who help with DS and I'd love to stay over often and longer. DH is only home and sees his son on the we and we see each other for an hour max during the week and on the weekend. If I fly to G, how often could I do it and how long could I stay without taking to much away from DH?

Thaleia · 07/09/2012 19:04

beyond = I hope everything will work out and I tell you what I tell myself now all the time: I can only be this good and this is good enough!

jam = what a scare! are you home now?

marsh = not long ago, I had green poo in all shades and forms for a week and also about 5, 6 nappies a day + the times when he pooed on the changing table. As long as our DC are happy, it'll pass

digitalgirl · 07/09/2012 19:33

jambalaya oh god, that sounds terrifying Sad. Can't believe the driver! Hope he loses his license. More importantly I hope dd2 gets the all clear and you're all home soon. Were you injured badly? Well done for pushing dd1 out the way.

jelly seems you've started weaning!

Ds2 still slumping in his highchair, think its mainly protest at being left in it occasionally. He seems to sit fine on my lap. Thought i'd give him a banana to play with at dinner and he seemed to love it. But then screamed as soon as I put him in his highchair so I could get a better look at what he was doing. So not sure if he liked the taste of it or if it was just soothing his sore gums. Still bloody teething with no sign of teeth.
So this weaning thing might take a while to get going, he's even cutting down his breastfeeds. Fed at 7:30. Tiny snack at 10:30, couple of nibbles later on in the morning (ie fed for less than 2 minutes), big feed at 2. Then snacks at 4 and 6, now having a long sleepy post-bath feed. I'm always offering because I don't want him making up for it at night. But he won't even feed for comfort (surprisingly for a 98th centiler).

newmummyvicky · 07/09/2012 21:51

What a busy day for post!

Beyondsorry to hear you have drepression, I hope your gp can help you? Sending hugs x
Jambalaya OMG hope everything is ok with u and your dd2? Sending big hugs x
thaleia I try to calm dd at night sometimes without feeding her, give dummy, hold hand, hush back to sleep, that's if she isn't crying real bad for a feed. Hope it works for you?
jelly well done on the weaning. I waited till 5 months with L, she also likes sweet potato. she was pushing lots out to start with, but getting the hang of it now! Thats quite a few mouth fulls too!
L's poo's have starting turning more solid and pretty goss, oh well something to get use to! Lol. We have highchair now she loves being at our level.
I had really bad insomnia the other night after 130am feed I didn't get back to sleep till 5am. Then she woke for another one, so got back off at 6am with baby In bed with me.
MIL and FIL arrive tonight from Spain for the christening on Sunday. Hope it all goes to plan, wish me luck!!!!!!! :-)

newmummyvicky · 07/09/2012 21:53

You might of seen on fb she took a bottle today, first time in ages, not that I don't love to bf. It just means , that if I need to leave her she will take a bottle! :)

Flisspaps · 07/09/2012 22:53

marshmallow could it be teething causing the frequent poos and sore bum?

jelly sod what your DM (or anyone else thinks!) - if you want to hang on with weaning until 6mo then do so, if you want to carry on - then do. Parenting decisions are yours to make, regardless of how insistent well-meaning friends and family are.

Ok since when do I have a DS who wakes at 4am for a feed? Where'd my sleeping through the night angel go? Wink

All the best, Vicky! GrinGrin

Flisspaps · 08/09/2012 08:12

Henrietta DS has always been a night waker, but last night DD woke up sobbing at 3am, so she joined us in the big bed. DS wailed and wailed at that, so I ended up attempting to sleep semi reclined holding him with white noise on and DD telling us "I'm awake!" repeatedly.

Woke up this morning to the smell of nail varnish. DD had been through my washbag, found a lovely pale blue polish and had done her hands and thighs, and full of the bloody joys. DS is all gummy smiles. DH and I are broken.

Could have been worse I suppose.

Flisspaps · 08/09/2012 08:14

And now she's sitting on my stomach singing jelly on a plate...Hmm

Those of you who've not owned a toddler before, you're in for a treat in 2014!

Hello all. Will hopefully be discharged today.

DD2s head is already returning to its usual perfectness, just a little bruised.

Spoke to the police again last night - they were inundated with people offering witness statements, restores my faith in people, that does. Grin

So, physically, we're all ok. Although I think it's going to play on DD1s mind for a long time yet (shes 8) and I still haven't stopped shaking. But it could have been SO much worse, and we're all here. Smile

Jellybellyrbest · 08/09/2012 09:03

I know Fliss: my decision. It's just decoding whether all these sudden changes in Emily's routine/feeding mean that she does need solids??! I would hate to hold out to 6mths just because of a guideline which let's face it, in 2 years may be totally changed. My HV (& lots if other HVs I know) don't support the 6mth thing at all..Milk may have more calories, but possibly just not fill their little tummies enough when they start moving around.

Awful night last night (for us!!!). Hard to settle Enily at 22.15 & eventually daddy cuddled her to sleep. She usually goes down awake-ish... Then up at 01.30 & 05.30 & just now at 08.45. I'm really engorged this am. Could this all be a growth spurt? She was v frustrated at the boob during her 21.00 feed & took 4oz formula (I've been out for a walk every night for the last 1-2 wks & she's had 1-4
oz to Tide her over till I've returned. Maybe my supply has depleted...

Digi: I gave Emily a soft banana to 'feed' herself & she managed really well, got bits off & was thoroughly enjoying herself. But I was then terrified she'd choke! Thays when I decided the mashed sweet potatoe on a spoon may be safer!

Just to add a little extra stress into the mix work have been in touch & have to start my KIT days v soon.....thought it would be easy enough with Em being so predictable & me not tired vos i was getting my sleep, but now that's all been turned on it's head!

Fliss: have you started work yet? How's it going?
Jam; read your post wrong. It was DD2 injured...hope she's ok & you've both recovered enough to be discharged.
