Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

thaleia I sing to DD when she's in the bath. As I wash her, I sing 'this is the way we wash our legs' etc. She seems to like it she must be tone deaf too

Once her cot is here I'll put DD in her Grobag and that should stop me checking that she hasn't kicked the covers over her head like I do now!

UniPsychle · 08/08/2012 21:54

thaleia DS1 hated the bath until he was about 1. We just decided not to bath him that often in the end! He now loves water/swimming etc, so no long term damage. If the baby loves it it can be a nice part of evening wind down before bed, but if not it can be stressful for all of you. DS2 likes the bath but cries afterwards too, probably he's a bit cold and I think they're so wee there's not much you can do to prevent that and it's not that big a deal. That's the trouble with babies, they can't communicate and so cry when something is mildly to their dissatisfaction. Hope you're ok after the news from home and that your night turns out better than you think Sad

Bearcrumble · 09/08/2012 20:25

DD is doing the fingers down throat and making herself vom thing too. Also she burps up quite a bit of milk as well - like her big brother, they're just sicky babies. I know they aren't losing loads of milk because there was the odd time they bring up the whole stomach contents and it's totally different. They can hold LOADS.

Lovely day today - we went to the inflatable stonehenge that was in our local park. It's travelling round the country - has anyone else been?

Nordicmom · 09/08/2012 21:37

R is gagging on her fingers too but has never thrown up yet . Also is completely different from DS in the way that she never really brings anything up and hardly even needs burping . She is using these clever bottles from playtex that have collapsible bags in a tube so she doesn't get much air . We brought them back from US. DS used to routinely throw up after eating . It was a mess for months and never dared to feed him in bed or the sofa etc. DD is so easy now:). Just got her new highchair today so we tried it out and had a bottle while in it. It has a position for 0-6m to lie down in . She'll use it in the kitchen instead of the bouncy seat when we're eating or I'm cooking so she can look around . she seemed so grown up in it ! I'll wait another couple of months before weaning but have gotten some baby rice etc in preparation. Last time i was dreading the process because i didn't know what i was doing . bought some Annabel Karmel books i still have somewhere . Now I'm actually looking forward to seeing how she'll take to it although its an effort and mess of course...

marshmallowpies · 09/08/2012 22:09

Bear you must live near me, then - the Stonehenge was in my local park today too!

We were heading back from PILs today so didn't go to see Stonehenge - I saw a pic on twitter and the queues looked pretty long!

Our day at the Olympics yesterday was amazing - the atmosphere in the stadium like nothing I've ever seen before. Even managed to meet up with friends who were there the same day, despite the crowds!

DD managed very well with PILs while we were at the stadium - 'didn't cry all day' apparently Hmm well she made up for it in the evening!

HenriettaChicken · 09/08/2012 23:18

I think we're really lucky in that DS is not that sicky at all...on the other hand, he has had TWELVE POOS since yesterday morning! Crazy...this can't be normal, right?

They're also slightly greener, SMELLIER and stickier than usual, and he has nappy rash.

I'm thinking teething... Will keep you posted! (Lucky you!)

hugandroll · 09/08/2012 23:30

Aww bless hen if it is teething Ashton parsons teething powder is amazing, so much better than anything else on the market IMO as they sort out bowel disturbances, pain, grizzly ness and sickness caused by teething.

HenriettaChicken · 10/08/2012 07:47

Thanks for the tip, hug - we'll look out for it!

Thaleia · 10/08/2012 08:49

Good Morning & what a night. I had a regular coffee at 5pm yesterday and it serves me right for being unable to sleep again after feeding. Plus, he leaked through 2 nappies tonight. Maybe I should do a course how to put them on correctly as this is the third one in 3 days.

Let's hope for some more sunshine!!!

hugandroll · 10/08/2012 09:16

thaleia both my boys used to leak if we forgot to make sure willies were pointing down.

Had a crap night sleep as a was really upset in the night, dh got up with him at 5.30 so feel bad as he has work today.

We went to a farm park yesterday and had a wonderful time so don't feel too bad if we have a quiet one today as we're all shattered.

laughingGnomette · 10/08/2012 10:41

Ooh, we're going to the Stonehenge thing today at Ally Pally :)

Nordic we're using those bottles too on the odd occasion we bottle feed N. They're very good, its annoying you cant buy them in shops over here. I got mine from Infant care direct.

Right, I'm off to go and get the little chap weighed! I've got a feeling he'll be over 15lbs.

I hope everyone has a nice day!

laughingGnomette · 10/08/2012 11:53

Crikey! 17lb 6oz! Shock

HollyPockett · 10/08/2012 11:56

We went to our fourth swimming lesson today. Frankie is the teacher's pet Blush. She doesn't cry when she's dipped, floats about cooing and eating her hands and when we have to learn
something new, she's the one the teacher grabs to demonstrate. She's now flat out fast asleep on her play mat

In other news, a fox left a massive poo right on my doorstep this morning. Not impressed!!

hugandroll · 10/08/2012 13:50

laughing that's a fab weight!

Can't get the motivation to clean today so I've done what's necessary and will do the rest tomorrow and dh can entertain the boys. A is currently doing a huge poo and has been straining for about 5 mins, not looking forward to changing that!

digitalgirl · 10/08/2012 14:54

Oooh look at me I'm out without either of my boys!! Admittedly I'm sat in the waiting room of my opticians but, you know, jazz hands!

Havent had ds2 weighed since he was 12 weeks (and 17lbs then so god knows what he weighs now...)

We nearly went to Stone Henge at Ally Pally too - but when we finally got to AP and checked the map I realised the field was as far from Muswell Hill as possible and wouldn't be able to walk to my appointment. But seeing as there's a few of us in North London - anyone fancy a meet up?

In other news - I expressed for the first time since week 2 and got 6oz from one boob. Ds2 just finished a grOwth spurt so thought I'd take advantage of engorged boobs and stock up for when I've got a hen night to go on. No idea if ds2 will take a bottle as we've not tried, but I suppose dh could cup feed him if bottle isn't a success. He'll be nearly 20 weeks when I go on the hen do so nearly ready for weaning - so a cup wouldn't be the end of the world.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/08/2012 21:07

H has been dribbling like a leaky tap all day and has been chewing his fist He is a very healthy 14lbs 7oz his weight gain has slowed a little the past few weeks.

newmummyvicky · 10/08/2012 22:22

nordic your weaning plan sounds similar to what im gonna do, I have some Annabel Karmel books too. some of the receipes look great!

Henrietta yikes 12 poo's!

L is teething too, no teeth yet but lots of pain. 3 lots of full on- nothing will me stop from crying. We went to a balloon festival for a night out and she hated it at first, didn't like noise, was hungry and tired! Wouldn't take bottle or boob till she calm down after half an hour. After bottle she took 5oz, she fell asleep till 930. Then woke up for the night glow and loved the balloons and lights. She didn't seem to mind the music. Got home at 1130 with her, feed her at 12 then she when through till 5am!

3rd lot if jabs today, not too bad really! Had to have 3 at once- Poor thing. Calpol ready bath and bed and greedy guts took two bottle of expressed milk, bloody nearly 7oz!

I'm now having to do two section of pumping, and can only get 2-3oz from one boob!
Anyone else producting less?
I use to 4-5oz! Strange, im only thinking L is taking more from me in the day?

digitalgirl · 11/08/2012 08:13

We're one step closer to weaning...Ds2 has now lost the tongue thrust reflex. He can burp up sick in his mouth then swallow it again Grin

Flisspaps · 11/08/2012 09:41

Thaleia - time is what it will take for DS to cheer up at bath time. If he gets miserable in it, leave it a few days and try again (no reason you can't top and tail for a while)

DS not interested in formula, or bottles. Had him weighed in the week, a rather modest 15lb 9oz at 16w, around the 60th centile - who'd have thought my big chap would be so nearly average after such a short time (must have had a superplacenta!)

vicky - don't forget that pumping gives no indication as to how much milk you're actually producing.

Decorating and potty training going well, we might be done by the end of the summer holiday!

OP posts:
Thaleia · 11/08/2012 10:58

digi - sounds a bit yak but can't wait for this to happen too ... Raphael is such a sicky, I've been vomited on yesterday after every feed, sigh. Doesn't matter as long as he gains as much as he must. Still hanging on to the 9th but I think MW was dotting a bit on "my side" as I think he's basically on the line now.

I think we're a far way off from weaning anyway, he just started to lick things and makes a sour face afterwards.

fliss will try. I had to bath him yesterday as he was so smelly from all the sickness but it was late and I could see in his eyes that he wouldn't like it, so were were done in under 5 mins and - surprise - no fuss at all. Maybe less playing and just washing for now?

re jabs - are there any more to come? Nobody mentioned anything to me, so I thought we were done after 8 and 12 weeks? We still have to do the TB one but wait till he's 5 months and the 3rd hep b shot after 6 months.

You are lucky that you can express at all - I get 1oz after 10mins and it's agony! Maybe because I only have milk enough to keep him on the 9th there is nothing to spare?

Happy weekend to all of you!!

newmummyvicky · 11/08/2012 11:34

I've have a blocked milk duct, turns out white spot on nipples is were its blocked!!!!

left boob sore and swollen, U can feel the milk block in there! Tried feeding L and pumping. Tried massage and hot/cold towels.
Don't know what else to try, and ideas?????

digitalgirl · 11/08/2012 11:53

vicky dangle feeding, 'combing' your boob from area of blocked duct towards nipple in the shower. V v v hot compress using a nappy just before feeding - basically pour boiling water onto a nappy then as soon as you can bear it without burning yourself place the nappy over the area for at least 5 minutes. Some people sterilise a needle and pop the blister - but can run risk of infection then. And when you've finished feeding, cabbage leaves in bra.

thaleia I don't normally express, but I had really full boobs yesterday after ds2 decided to skip a couple of overnight feeds - and he didn't seem particularly hungry in the morning either so thought rather than putting up with engorged boobs and spending all day trying to get him to feed more than he wants I could express it and have some spare in the freezer. Tried again this morning and only got 4oz, so boobs have adjusted already. Am sure if I tried tomorrow (which I won't) I'd only get 2oz.

HenriettaChicken · 11/08/2012 14:51

Newmummyvicky - so sorry about the ducts. Such a horrible feeling. No additional advice I'm afraid...

So, my son is still up for a pooing Olympic medal (4 more today) but has also become 'the boy who doesn't nap'. I don't mind, as he sleeps through from 9.30pm-8.00am which is more than I could have ever dreamed of - but he's not had more than 2 minutes sleep since then! (And that was only after feeding - he thought about 40 winks. I blinked; he woke up!)

He doesn't seem to have normal baby sleeping patterns at all!! (Unless we go in the car, and then he falls asleep).

Does anyone else have a baby who sleeps like this? Apparently my sister was like this and she's a bit of a nightmare now so hoping this is their only similarity Grin

He's also been a bit grumbly so I'm more convinced than ever that he's teething. I wonder how long those teeth will take to come through. It'll be so much easier when he figures out how to hold and chew a teething ring independently!

Thaleia - DS has 3 lots of jabs at about 8, 12 and 16. Although he's actually more like 8, 13 and 18 because of holidays... Not looking forward to the final lot in September after the disruption to his routine (and equilibrium!) caused by the second lot... :(

LaTristesse · 11/08/2012 20:17

Yes jabs at 8,12 and 16 weeks. Have you got a red book Thaleia? Tht should tell you what's due when...

Hen DD is a catnapper too. She has max 30mins at a time through the morning then a 2 hour one after lunch with DS 2ys)! Very odd, I was expecting the classic 3 naps a day set-up. Guess nobody told her about that!

Vicky, Kellymom has some good info on milk blebs, that sounds like what your blister is...

Bearcrumble · 11/08/2012 20:42

DD very wakeful last night and v active today - banging her hands and flapping. I'm exhausted. DH was kind and took DS out this morning but I couldn't sleep because she was awake. I know it's just wonder week 19 but - ugh.

Potty training going well. He has started telling us when he needs to go so less reminding needed. No accidents for 2 days.

Marsh Where do you live? I'm Upper Sydenham.
