Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

Well, today I had to change a pooey nappy and feed Aaron on the bus (not bf so easier for me than you ladies). There weren't many people on the bus but a few people looked at me so I just said loudly "sorry to the people on the bus but for me my son comes first" most of the ladies then smiled at me :). I do wonder if I'm going to crop up in aibu later as a "aibu to be disgusted at the mother changing her babies nappy on the bus?".

marshmallowpies · 24/07/2012 07:42

I have a three month old baby today! Seems incredible that she is half way to being six months old.

Had a very nice day yesterday as the Olympic torch was passing near our house so went to see it in the local park. DD seemed quite happy in the shade under a tree afterwards, and then when I took her home she was happy all afternoon - but at about 7.30 started screaming and crying.

We decided she was too hot (our living room does get quite stuffy) so spent rest of the evening in the kitchen trying to keep her calm & cool. She went off to sleep with no trouble but just hope I can keep her comfortable enough today!

HollyPockett · 24/07/2012 11:25

DDbis three months old today too marsh. Can't believe how quickly it's gone. She's not so bad in the eat as long as there's a nice breeze blowing and she's in the shade, of course. It's the nights that confuse me, is she wearing too much, not enough, what blanket to wear etc!

I'm taking her down the Thames today, we're meeting my dad and we're gonna have a stroll and maybe a cheeky bit of lunch :)

Hope you're all having a lowly time in this wether and your babies aren't too hot and bothered.

Thaleia · 24/07/2012 12:40

We also saw the torch relay. Quite a lot of hype for seeing the sponsor buses and 3 sec of fire. But it was a nice day in the park.

I think I'm drying up, what a shame as I really enjoy breeding. I'll now for sure tomorrow when I weigh him but my scales at home tell me that he actually lost weight.

I'm tired of e everything and not sure I still care. I've tried so hard but my best wasn't good enough. Oh well. At least 12 weeks.

Thaleia · 24/07/2012 12:42

Breastfeeding not breeding. Not sure if there will be another one, not soon for sure!!!

Nordicmom · 24/07/2012 13:46

Thaleia , you've done really well with the BF!!! With my first DS I only managed a week until he'd lost a quarter of his weight and I got a horrible mastitis :( ! I had to throw in the towel. Did feel guilty and a failure for years with my EMCS and not managing to BF. He's 7 1/2 y and i've gotten over it and moved on. Now with DD I couldn't bf at all since she was born to a surrogate ( though ours fully biologically ) and am on a bunch of medications so couldn't in any case. Both are perfectly happy , healthy and thriving . DS has is sporty and slim and very clever and has never been sick more than the average child . He's also never had ear infections or such that are sometimes linked to FF . You've done your best and have hung on in there , what ever you now end up deciding to do it's fine. Just remember to look after yourself so you can look after your baby :)!

Nordicmom · 24/07/2012 13:50

... Took me 2 1/2 y after having a nightmare pregnancy , birth and trouble with feeding etc to want to start trying for another child . There's no rush . Enjoy the one you've got . It will generally get easier after the the first. 3 m and then the first year:)! DS is now such a big boy . Very capable , independent and been such a help with Rosie . He's a very good big brother !!!

hugandroll · 24/07/2012 14:33

I have a grumpy non sleeping baby today. I think it's the heat but I actually have a headache from him crying. Im not even bf and I'm pinned to the sofa today. Luckily my sister came over with my nice so ds1 has had someone to play with, I've had adult company and we are lucky enough to have a fair size garden they could run around in. We are now in the living room with the curtains closed to try and keep it cool and ds1 is watching Disney junior to keep him occupied while staying quiet so Aaron sleeps (hopefully). I'm not normally one to tiptoe around a baby but today I'm at the end of my tether lol

gobblegobs · 24/07/2012 16:46

Hope the days get better for all!
Thaleia you tried your hardest and thats what matters. You did not fail. You b/fed your baby for 12 weeks! Well done!
IMHO doing our best for our children in each of our individual circumstances is what good parenting is about.
Just wondering, this may have been discussed before, and if so apologies as I am a relatively late arrival, any one finding the montessori principles of raising children attractive.
I recently saw a documentary and was rather impressed by some of their ideas not so with the others. I like the thought of giving the baby and toddlers freedom to develop at their own pace whilst helping them along the path.
I was hoping someone may have an experience with an older child and shed some light from a pragmatic perspective.

SmileHappy to be flamed for having a pfb attitude and overthinking!

Nordicmom · 24/07/2012 17:44

Btw Rose turned 3 m yesterday too ! How time flies...
Gobblegobs, am considering a Montessori nursery for DD , am going to have to look more into it still. It's mainly because of the short distance to DS new school he's starting in the fall that I'm having to look at new nurseries . I think we're ok with a Montessori nursery eventhough do want to have DD in a mainstream school in the future. DS nursery used many of the Montessori teaching methods and we were very happy with it . It's just a bit too far from our new house as far as DS new school goes... It's a bit crazy that am already stressed about nurseries and schools for DD but DS old one for instance is very popular and has a sibling priority so have put DD name down already . Unfortunately DS is now moving to a boys school so two of them will always be in different schools...

Nordicmom · 24/07/2012 17:58

Hugandroll , grumpy nonsleeping hungry baby here today too . She skipped one sleep completely and then only had an hour so and been fussy otherwise . Have given her bottles 3 h apart in the day not 4 like usual and she had them quickly . I bet she was thirsty in the heat . We've just stayed in today . Lucky DS is old enough to entertain himself all day . Got a headache by now and am sick with a horrible cold anyway with a cough etc. personally I hate hot weather unless am lieying by my own pool in the shade with a cold drink in the tropics or something . Didn't feel like starting to travel to DS gym class in this weather ( don't drive) . We had builders come in so had to be here part of the day anyway. I'm hoping DD will sleep well tonight . She normally does except that other night when I though she was in teething pain and she was up half the night crying . Tomorrow we'll have the second jabs which I hope will go well like the first when we had no adverse reaction. Didn't notice anything happening ...

Snowy27 · 24/07/2012 21:41

Hi
I have a grumpy boy today, to be fair I'm not a huge fan of hot weather either, I just burn! We went out for a picnic with some other mums, they all looked effortlessly cool and summery, I look hot, sweaty and smell like milk as lo likes to dribble and he doesn't fancy down my Bra/top whilst feeding! Although lo looked very cute in his sunglasses (he did not enjoy wearing them!)

hugandroll · 24/07/2012 23:09

I've cooled off nicely in aqua aerobics. If this hot weather continues we will take the children swimming at the weekend.

marshmallowpies · 25/07/2012 12:57

I've found a great solution to the hot baby situation: I picked up a Chinese fan which was on the shelf and fanned DD, she immediately smiled and was much happier; it's entertaining AND cooling, bonus!

As it's a pretty fan I used as an ornament I did remind DH not to leave it on the sofa where he will probably sit on it... Confused

We have a proper Dyson fan but it's in storage - going to dig it out at the weekend, but next week looks like rain anyway! Oh well!

HenriettaChicken · 25/07/2012 13:20

Or you could holiday in the lakes like us! Its about 20c and grey here. Envy

digitalgirl · 25/07/2012 17:28

Phew, scorching today! Never been so pleased to see clouds in the sky. We went to the lido this morning, persuaded DH to take the morning off so there was someone to mind ds2 while the other could be with ds1 in the pool. Water was pretty cold so don't think we could bring ds2 in with us without a wet suit (which we don't have).

Have been cooped up in the house this afternoon - too hot to venture out. Glad we went out in the morning. Ds2 been avoiding napping all afternoon and has only just conked out on the boob now so looks like a later bedtime than usual.

Think we're due a thunderstorm in London on Friday - just in time for the opening ceremony!

HollyPockett · 25/07/2012 17:43

It's so bloody hot I'm actually cross!! It's too hot to go out with DD. it's either raining or too hot. We're going to Broadstairs tmrw so hopefully it's a bit cooler on the coast.

Thaleia · 25/07/2012 19:05

I wonder if the weather will turn as soon as The Games start ... should be the case, this being the English summer and with usually only sunshine between Monday afternoon and Friday morning!!

R is throwing up so much that it's possible he's got an allergy or an intolerance. What's next???? The paediatrician told me to stop bfeeding for 1 week and to give him some special milk. I re-negotiated and have another 2 weeks to adjust my diet, so will cut out all milk and soya to see if it makes a difference. I wonder if I should cut out wheat as well - but what do I eat?? Oh well, all for the greater good. I hope it's nothing of this as it'll make life so much more difficult in the long run, even if he would outgrows it by 2 years.

hugandroll · 25/07/2012 20:41

thaleia that sounds like hard work. You are such a fab mum to come up with a compromise with the paediatrician as many people (myself included) would have just done what the dr said :).

It's too hot here too. Ds1 said he didn't want to go to the park because its too hot and Aaron is hard to settle as he loves to be cuddled and he's getting too hot, it's a catch 22. As much as I don't like the rain somewhere in the middle would be good please weather.

karensb · 25/07/2012 21:25

thaleia I don't Normally post much but your situations sounds so much like mine with dd1. She vomited continually after every feed so eventually stopped breast feeding but it carried on. Turned out she has milk protein intolerance. I am veggie so drank and ate lots of dairy so when breast feeding, it made her sick.

I if were you I would completely cut out dairy from your diet for 2 weeks before you do anything else. don't stop soya or wheat as you won't be able to pin point problem. Milk protein intolerance most common.

It's worth a go before trying special milk as there are problems associated with special formulas. If you do want to eventually try formula from time to time, the cartons of formula are uht so heat treated which breaks down the milk protein. My dd could tolerate these although an expensive way to do it.

Ds is now 3 months and has only ever had the cartons. It's expensive but don't like the special milk and can not go through the vomiting again as was soul destroying with dd. very hard to feel positive when constantly covered in and cleaning up projectile milk sick !!

gobblegobs · 26/07/2012 06:23

G'day all!
Sounds like Britain is finally having a summer...and I am away!
Ok four month regression and grumpy baby here...before he has turned four months! Keep reminding ourselves its a phase (and actually a good one as corresponds to a developmental leap!).

Nordic do keep posted about the montessori nursery. My curiosity has been piqued.

A developmental milestone of rather clandestine nature...we celebrated our DS's first "conception date" Blush...I know TMI but its a first!Grin

laughingGnomette · 26/07/2012 10:29

Holly - Broadstairs, lovely! I wish I could be transported there now rather than being stuck in roasting North London. I hope you have a lovely time.

DS loves sucking his thumb and has a funny (if slightly annoying) habit of trying to suck it at the same time as feeding! :)

He is still refusing to take the bottle (he used to take it without a problem but I had a two week break from it and he now refuses it). I've tried fast and slow flow teats and different temperature milk but he just looks offended when it is offered to him and tries to spit out the teat. He will tolerate taking a bit from a cup but it takes soooo long and ends up quite messy. Frustrations!! I know it's selfish, and I feel awful for thinking this but the thought of not being able to spend any time away from him until he is weaned is scary. :(

laughingGnomette · 26/07/2012 11:10

Flippin' heck DS has been asleep since 8:30... I've actually been able to get things done this morning. The heat must be really taking it out of him.

digitalgirl · 26/07/2012 19:28

laughingG I was like that with ds1, forever expressing and storing milk so I could go out...but for some reason I feel completely different second time round. I find the thought of having to leave ds2 before he starts weaning worrisome. Haven't bothered with the trying to give him a bottle yet. I suppose it feels like its going so fast this time that it won't be long till we start weaning - maybe 2-3 months to go. Then once he's taking in different food sources I won't feel so guilty about giving him the odd bit of formula and if he won't take a bottle then he might just go straight to the sippy cup like ds1 did. But for now, I'm finding that I don't really have many plans that can't include him or happen after he's gone to bed.
Think maybe I'm a bit odd as most people I speak to are happily going to book clubs/the gym/hen weekends during the first 6 months. I know I'll get back to that eventually Smile

So today we beat the heat. Park by 10am for a go on the swings, scoot round the lake and general lying around on the grass. Back in the car by midday, a/c on full blast and went to Brent Cross to run a few errands in the comfort of an air conditioned mall. Minimal crying from both dc's. And ds2 was highly amused by the ceiling in Pizza Express, so that was a bonus!

HollyPockett · 26/07/2012 20:53

laughing Broadstairs was a massive disappointment. Really quite chavy, busy and traffic everywhere. Oh, and cold! Really cloudy and windy!! But DD loved the sea air and is sparko :)

digi that sounds like a plan! I might do the same but go to Bluewater :) x
