Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

A is very clingy today again, screams if I put him down, bet he's fine for dh while I'm at the appeal this afternoon.

fliss I think you know in yourself when they're healthy. People have been commenting on how big Aaron has got but it will slow off at some point. Ds1 was a fairly big baby until he could move. He is now one of the skinniest 4yo and 3 centiles lower than he should be. Neither my hv or I are worried though as,he is healthy (other than mild asthma which is infection triggered). I am more than sure your ds is perfect the way he is.

I don't have the wonder weeks ap but I'm thinking about it. Honestly how useful have you found it and is it accurate?

HenriettaChicken · 03/07/2012 12:10

You're right, Kat - you know if your little one is healthy. Bill weighed in this morning at a lovely 12lb 11oz: stiill hovering around the 50%. Good boy!

Also, I've noticed that when it comes to babies, even the loveliest of people talk the greatest amount of bollocks! The amount of people that've said, "Oh isn't he big?"

Er, no - bang on average actually.

I think it's just their way of engaging with you.

In these things, mama knows best...

HenriettaChicken · 03/07/2012 14:43

BTW Today I have a sad little boy almost permanently attached to my boob... :(

Nordicmom · 03/07/2012 15:51

Gnomette. I too have the bugaboo chameleon and the seat is meant for 6 m + as far as I know . Have had Rose recently in the carseat clipped into the base a few times so have been able to take a taxi and not just a bus. We had it the other way a around. DD always hated being in the carseat unless the car was moving and then she'd be asleep so I wondered how the carseat in the buggy would ever work . Now she's happy in it as long as she has a blanket on her and sometimes a dummy then she goes to sleep ...
Also not only has DD been eating more around 8 w age ( now10w) and was more sleepy too , but the dirty nappie amounts have ingreesed from 1 a day to 4+ sometimes 6-7 little messes all the time and the poo is looking odd too . Also more little pukes sometimes which she never used to do. Have been to health visitor just once ( last week ) she's come down a few percentiles from about 90 to 50 . Must keep her around that ... I'm a bit anxious of what the scales say the next time I'll go since she still not always eating 5 oz but more like 4 oz . Looking happy and healthy though .

Bunsouttheoven · 03/07/2012 17:05

kat I have the app, haven't it that wonderfulWink

E is 12 weeks today, either attached to my boob or crying with windy tum Sad Not sure if it's a growth spurt or the curry I ate yesterday but it's making today tricky for getting a thing done.

HollyPockett · 03/07/2012 20:15

Frankie is right in the middle of a wonder week, she's 10 weeks and was two weeks late, so she's on the middle of the Smooth Transitions. It really is amazing that she fits the pattern. She's been clingy and a lot quieter this week.

She's also learnt to grasp, she plays with her hair while she's feeding, it's too cute.

We went to the HV today for weigh in, she's now 11,5lb, up from 10.8 a fortnight ago. Newborn and first size babygrows are too short!

Does anyone have a playnest? And are they worth it? We have a bouncer so we can sit F up in the kitchen and he can watch us while we're eating/cooking/doing chores etc. But wondered if a playnest would be better for when he's able to sit up a bit more. Never had one for ds1 but did end up constantly arranging cushions around him which he inevitably fell between.

Flisspaps · 03/07/2012 22:49

Is a playnest like the inflatable ring with toys attached that you sit the baby in? We had one of those with DD and it's knocking around somewhere in DS's room. I'd thought about us needing it when he gets to 6mo, but of course he should hopefully sit unaided by then Blush

On the second day of colief drops, I don't think they are making a diffence :(
and they are a pain, have to give L expressed milk and 4drops before a bf. We tried a syringe and spit most of it out! So doing bottle now before bf. Don't know if this is confusing her? Poor thing,

We still having loads of crying with wind nearly all feeds, and tummy pain. She doesn't have any problem or get wind with the bottle, Because of the how slow it comes out!
If this doesn't work, Im gonna have to put up with it!
The only thing that calms her ia her dummy, and i cant always get burps up. Also just makes bf in public hard because of the crying! :(

kat1885 · 03/07/2012 23:21

vicky sorry its not working yet. It may need to build up in her system, infacol does and takes about a week to have a notable difference.

A gaggs in his sleep every day since birth. We were told it was because he swallowed a lot of fluid but surely it should have stopped by now. He is also really unsettled and possets a lot after and between feeds. Any ideas? He has his late 8 week check next week so will ask the Dr but wondered if any of you lovely ladies had any suggestions.

digitalgirl · 04/07/2012 01:39

Thanks Fliss - might give it a month and see where we're at with him sitting with cushions. We do have a bumbo I remember using for about 2 weeks not very long last time so maybe we could use that a bit more. Although with the size of F's thighs I'm not sure he'll fit into it!

vicky F sometimes gets himself into a state when he has wind and it makes him take in more air when breastfeeding as he fusses so much. I've sometimes found changing sides helps as he is more comfortable lying on the opposite side (and will let a few farts out) and then feeding rugby hold on the other boob.

kat have you tried lying him on his side propped up with rolled up towels? Probably not recommended by current guidelines but then I put F to sleep on his tummy and have the opposite problem of him being sick after a feed and rubbing his face in it.

Well seems we are doing the 1am feed for the third night in a row. Suppose this could be his new routine from now on till the next change. Arse Ah well, it was nice having the 8 hour stretches while it lasted.

newmummyvicky · 04/07/2012 10:41

Thanks kat and digi she seemed a little better on feeds last night and this morning, so fingers crossed!

digi lyra woke up at 12 last night, I had 3-4 nights of 7-8 hours too, hopefully its just a one off? But she might be back to the 12-1am feeds too!
What a pain x

Bearcrumble · 04/07/2012 17:10

Digi - My DS hated the bumbo, he had really poor back strength (didn't sit unaided until 9 months, think because he was low birthweight/prem) and he was a possetty baby so he would slump in it and throw up.

Vicky Glad to hear feeds are going better and hope that the midnight waking was just a glitch.

DD was very clingy and wakeful yesterday, I was really unhappy by the end of the day and toddler DS kept telling me to 'go away' and doing horrible massive dribbles on purpose.

She's asleep in her moses basket now and DS is out with my mum for the day so I have finally had a chance to catch up on the thread.

DD's weight has hovered around the 9th since birth. She sleeps well at night but only on me. She's starting to get a bit heavy so not sure how long we can maintain this - hope it won't be a world of pain getting her used to sleeping next to me rather than on top of me.

I also have a moby wrap but I find it quite hot and heavy in this weather (it's humid even though it's miserable). I bought a lightweight calin bleu wrap sling (it's not stretchy so you have to do the tie slightly differently but I got used to it fairly quickly) and I love it. Will put a pic on the group.

I can't remember who was asking about how high the baby should be - you should be able to kiss their forehead without bending your head down too much. Maybe position the first bit of fabric across your front higher up and make the place where the two pieces cross your front after coming over your shoulders higher as well. this is a good checklist for positioning.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 04/07/2012 17:24

I've just bought DD a Bumbo! DD1 had one (7 years ago!) and loved it.

Got one off eBay for a bargain £6.50
Sat DD in it, to see, and she looks so tiny!

Flisspaps · 04/07/2012 19:06

DS still eating with ridiculous frequency - hourly or so. I don't think it helps that it is the only thing that soothes him, and that if I put him down when he's asleep then 9 out of 10 times he wakes up and cries.

Definitely considering FF instead now. I can't keep on feeding him so often, DD is really starting to miss out as I just can't play with her as I've got DS attached to me almost ALL of the time. I was hoping this growth spurt would be over by now.

OP posts:
Bearcrumble · 04/07/2012 20:26

Maybe he is anaemic? Apparently anaemic babies can't absorb the nutrients so well, so they feed more frequently but don't gain weight quickly as ones with sufficient iron. Might be worth having a blood test to rule it out.

Bearcrumble · 04/07/2012 20:26

Should be - as quickly.

Flisspaps · 04/07/2012 20:33

Ooh that's a possibility. I wanted a physiological third stage to get all the cord blood in and boost his iron stores but that didn't happen with an assisted delivery and major PPH. Definitely something to think about - will have a look for other symptoms.

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 05/07/2012 09:24

fliss have you had your iron levels checked? You also may be low and DS will be taking what little supply you have. I've been taking liquid iron supplements as I think they absorb better than the tablets (for me anyway).

DS2 slept much better last night - only woke at 4 - which was fortunate as we had an unexpected late night visit from my cousin who was over from Italy.

Think I'm going to get him weighed today as I don't trust my scales at home since they proclaimed him to be over 9kg but I'm curious as to how heavy he actually is after 12 weeks of exclusive bf. He feels heavy to hold. Again luckily we're going through a phase where he's happy to sit or lie on his playmat unless hungry, tired or needing a nappy change. Which means I'm able to prep lunch and dinner a bit easier. Still not so keen on sitting in the buggy for long unless it's moving - however I think we're up to about 5 minutes now so hopefully that will get longer as he gets older.

Flisspaps · 05/07/2012 09:41

They were checked in hospital...but when I finished my bottle of Ferroglobin I didn't bother getting any more. Now you mention it I have noticed I've been shattered the last few days.

Hmm.

Will get some more I think, see if it helps. If not I then will chat to the nurse on Tuesday as DS has his jabs then, she seems a very sensible sort of woman (not a fobber-offer) and the GPs are both a bit weird.

DS seems better today though and I felt as if I had more milk so hopefully he's almost done with the growth spurt. I've noticed his movements are much smoother today so he's been through the 'smooth transitions' WW as well. I might actually get something done today Grin!

Good call on the iron, digitalgirl. I'm on a general multi-vit, but this growth spurt it taking it out of me big time! In fact, I fell asleep in front of tv last night and was in bed for 12 hours (and 2 feeds...) Still, I'm obviously burning calories as I've lost another pound! So 4lb lower than pre-preg, but still 18 to go to the previous August.

Can you tell we made the most of being newly weds with no kids & ate out LOTS the first year we were married? Blush

Flisspaps · 05/07/2012 11:42

I've checked the vitamin I've been taking sporadically and that does contain iron, but I've hardly taken it for the last week. Could do with taking it anyway, as my diet is still pretty crap generally as I've not had time to cook or prepare a decent meal for DD and me in the day as I've been stuck to DS! Bit of a catch 22.

Have also found the iron tablets I was prescribed when leaving hospital (MWs said it was fine not to take them and to take the Ferroglobin instead) so could have those just to boost my stores for now. DS has also taken to latching on strangely and is clicking - have worked out how to move/position him now so that he doesn't click, and hopefully that will help too.

Bah, just when I thought I'd got the whole BF thing sussed as well.

Never mind about me anyway, wittering on, how are you lot?

OP posts:
newmummyvicky · 05/07/2012 12:01

fliss I was told clicking means they are getting the milk, its hitting the roof of the mouth and not taking as much in! So keep a eye on it, does sound like another growth spurt.

L has one here to, just i thought id got the sleeping at night sorted! But she was up 2am 5am 7an and 10am. I knackered, also went all for a meal so didn't get to bed till 11pm. Dh put her down at 830pm. Also lots of crying when wanting to feed or sleep today!

kat1885 · 05/07/2012 12:13

Hope you have an easier time of it fliss what youre going through sounds so draining.

A is trying to blow raspberries and has found his voice. Still no giggles yet though. He is also grabbing and batting toys so has developed quite a lot of New skills this week.

How is everyone else?
