Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

jelly yes we have the base too, was given to us along with the seat. Makes getting in the car much quicker! Especially when we've been using the carseat on the buggy.
Re: moby position - are you doing the hug hold or the kangaroo hold? I found it tricky to get F up high when doing the kangaroo hold as you have to hold them while tying the thing round you. But doing the hug hold is much easier to get tight because you put the wrap on first then slot baby into it. If that's the one you're doing and em's still too low just tie it tighter before putting her in.

fliss I won't deny that tying the moby is more of a faff than a sling with buckles but it's really good for spreading the weight evenly across your shoulders. I can walk for hours with him in it. Just can't really sit down as it gets too tight. We weighed F on our scales today and he's 9.6kg no idea not sure what that is in old money but it's over twice his birth weight!

LaTristesse · 01/07/2012 19:48

Fliss, could you find someone with an Ergo or Patapum to try? They offer good lumbar support; I still use mine for 2.3 yr DS...

newmummyvicky · 01/07/2012 21:26

We had a 10/11 wk growth spurt, I was feeding like a new born and at night 2-4 hours. In the day it was 1 and half-2hrs, I remember! Only seem to last a day or two!

Now L is feeding a bit more in the day. Sometimes I do 8/9 feeds in a 24hr period. Going 1 and half-3 hrs in the day, and the last few nights she is 6hrs plus! 9pm-3am one day it was 9-430. Try to put down at 8-830, but I can end nearer to 9 if I do a long feed. In the evening she likes cluster feeding. I do it at 6, 730, then 8ish. This has been a pattern the same, over the last few days. I dont mind feeding more in the day or evening if she goes longer at night! Dh is doing the a bottle feed at 3-4am tonight. So looking forward to that!

We were my friends baby's Godparents today, and all babies were angels at the christening. L seemed to like the singing in church lol. My friends little is 14weeks. Getting L done in a few months!

hayley I had a panic attack when I was gonna leave L over night at 6/8 weeks. Cancelled the night and stay in! Couldn't face leaving her!
I've left her now but only for a few hours and I've been out at night but always gone home. My cousins has left there 12wk baby over night loads. I gonna wait till i stop bf then try it! :-)

Flisspaps · 01/07/2012 22:52

LaT I'd be lucky. I get looked at like Shock for using a sling - its not a common thing round here and I don't recall seeing a single other parent using a sling in my town so borrowing one is unlikely.

Growth spurt here for sure - DS has been on the boob most of the evening. He's taken 2oz expressed milk from a bottle (a miracle) and is starting a wonder week period so I am hopeful that next week will bring changes, along with it being the end of the 'fourth trimester'

HenriettaChicken · 01/07/2012 23:13

Wonder week here too! DS due 12 weeks ago today...feeding lots, clingy & quite tearful. Also very dribbly - but I think it's more him investigating his hands rather than teething as no red cheeks or sore bum.

Sleeping beautifully at the moment - wonder when he'll wake up!

Jellybellyrbest · 02/07/2012 09:20

Thanks Digi; it's the hold where their legs are separated & out of the sling as opposed to being contained within the wrap. I second the comfort of the Moby; have used a couple of other carriers/slings in the past & the Moby is def the most comfy. It certainly beats having her slung up over my shoulder as I arch my back which is now achey & sore. Emily's a few oz off 1 stone now...

Up at 5 again last night & then 7. I know 5 hours sleep is great in the bigger scheme of things, but having had almost 3 weeks of 6-7 hours I'm a bit peeved at the backward step. Really hope it reverts back soon!! If she went down before midnight it'd help...

Good news on the bottle Fliss!

newmummyvicky · 02/07/2012 10:14

Well don't on the Bottle Fliss hopefully U could have a little break from bf if he continues to take it! I find it usefull if they do both.

dh did the 4am feed but was bashing around so much woke me, and L was still hungry after 4&half oz! So ended up bf after anyway!
She slept from 8pm-4am then 5am-830am, best night yet! Hopefully it good news to the younger babies, there is hope!
Lyra is now 13 weeks x

laughingGnomette · 02/07/2012 11:51

Hooray, Nico slept from 7-10 then 2 hours of fussing and feeding before doing 12-7. The fussy couple of hours is bloody draining though and he does it every night... big screams until I get the hairdryer out and only then with it going in the background will he feed or sleep. I turn it off about 5 minutes after he is properly asleep. Strange boy!

I've been auditing his wardrobe and realised he has approximately 25 vests in size 3-6. I had no idea I had so many, everyone seemed to give us vests as gifts when he was born and it appears they are all the same size!!! He'll probably only wear most of them once (if that).

He has also taken to HATING the pram in carry cot mode. He'll scream in it until I take him out. It's a bugaboo cameleon and I've changed it to the pushchair mode but he just looks too small for it, and it's not flat which I've heard is not advised for the first few months. I think I'm just going to have to clip the car seat on for now and use the Ergo more (which he has grown out of the infant insert for, grrr).

Sorry for the random ramble!!! I hope you all had a nice weekend. X

kat1885 · 02/07/2012 12:05

Well I keep having severe confusion over how old Aaron is, hv confirmed 9wks today. He was also weighed and he's 13lbs already and gone up to just under 75th centile. He was 7lb 13.5oz born so he's not that far away from double his birth weight. My niece was weighed last week at the upper 15lbs (cant remember exactly) and she was 7.5 months! A will be bigger than her soon.

A has pretty much outgrown his Moses basket but dh doesn't want to move the cot into our room (has been assembled and dessembled 3 times already so he's worried it won't be safe to keep doing it) so I don't know what to do. How long do cribs last if I was to look for one? It's either that or me getting an angelcare monitor for peace of mind.

Jellybellyrbest · 02/07/2012 14:41

Kat, I got my Angelcare from Amazon for 69.99. Keep an eye out as they have it on sale on & off. I've gone out like a light every time Emily has, which is new for me as both previous times I've had trouble sleeping when the girls were small babies. I think subconsciously I feel reassured that if Emily stops breathing (God forbid), the alarm would go off. The metronome tick is hard to get used to: I don't hear it now, but DH abandons ship to the spare room frequently as it drives him insane :-/

Not sure about how long a crib would last. Not too long I'm sure though if he keeps growing at the same rate!!

digitalgirl · 02/07/2012 15:13

hayley when's his birthday I'm sure we can help you figure it out. I don't always trust hv's or gp's to get it right theyre always in a rush!

Well I looked up where 9kg is on the growth chart and it's stupidly far off the scale that I'm sure our (electronic) scales must have got it wrong. He was wriggling a lot so perhaps that was why. But, he is growing out of the 3-6month vests already...

digitalgirl · 02/07/2012 15:14

Sorry not hayley meant kat

HenriettaChicken · 02/07/2012 15:41

Kat, was he born on 30th April? That was 9 weeks ago today!

Bill is 11 weeks tomorrow...and looking gorgeous. We're having some professional shots of him taken on Wednesday (for my parents' 40th wedding anniversary gift). Any tips?

newmummyvicky · 02/07/2012 16:10

Sorry fliss meant to say well done- bloody phone hehe

kat I forgot how old L was too lol, thought she was 13 last wk, only she was 12 confirmed by hv. She 13 on Wednesday.
We have a swinging crib, couldn't fit cot in our room. We brought a second hand one, but is like new. I think she will be in till 4-5 months, she might make 6 hopefully! But she takes half of it up already! I have the angelcare monitor from my sister, but not using it yet! We have a video one, I might use it when she goes in her own room?

HollyPockett · 02/07/2012 16:27

newmummy it has slowed down milk production but that's the idea for me :). DD has her first two feeds of the day from me then two bottles then her last feed before bed from me. She's taken to it really well actually. She was going down at 7ish and waking at 4ish so we've moved her last feed to 8 so she's waking at 6 :)

VintageNancy · 02/07/2012 16:53

Hi Jelly, American Emily was 9 days late (due 4 April).

Last night she went to sleep at 9.30pm - woke up at about 2 but she settled herself back to sleep until about 4. But then awake again at 5.45. I wonder if I should've just fed her at 2 as I got very little sleep listening to her move around! She's outgrown her bassinet/moses basket now really - she hits the sides when she wakes up and thrashes around. I don't really want to put her in her own room yet though. There is a bed in there so I could sleep in there with her I suppose...

Another dribbler/fist & thumb sucker here. She has also discovered her hair & pulls it for comfort. It's pretty cute when she's sucking her thumb on one hand & twisting the fingers of her other hand through her hair. Grin

LaTristesse · 02/07/2012 19:06

Jelly you can turn the metronome sound off, you just see the icon ticking from side to side. You obviously still hear the alarm and the warning beeps. Can't remember how to do it though...!

kat1885 · 02/07/2012 20:19

vicky glad its not just me who got it wrong! How much does L weigh so I can judge against A to see which is the better option. Possibly will be the monitor.

henrietta yes he was born 30th (2 weeks late!) so he is 9 weeks - I blame baby brain.

digitalgirl a in kg is 5.9kg and is just going into 3-6 for the length if that helps. He still has a whole 2 0-3 outfits that still fit fine, they grow way too fast.

fliss glad you managed to use a bottle for a feed, bet it gives you a bit of peace of mind if you had to go out ds would be fed in your absence.

Hope everyones babies are all doing well x

newmummyvicky · 02/07/2012 21:30

hollypocket I wouldn't mind my milk slowing down, lol. I've got tones of the bloody stuff! Still swirting out my nipple when L feeds, and the letdown is causing wind! Trying colief drops now, to see if that helps with the tummy upset?

Kat L is 12.5lb-13lb well she was 12.5 last week, takes up half the crib. She really seems to like it, i think she would still be too small for her cot, but my friend had her baby in one! I never had a moses basket so she has been it since a newborn. I only paid £35 for it and was orginally over £100 from John Lewis.

Lots of drippling and hand sucking here too, and hair grapping and top pulling now also! So strange she can grap hold of stuff now. :)

kat1885 · 02/07/2012 22:01

I think at the rate he's growing the monitor may be better then. Bugger, I can see me sleeping on the floor in his room!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 03/07/2012 07:07

This growth spurt is killing me. We've gone from sleeping through till six am to waking at 1am, and 4am then not going back to sleep. Sad

Going to try a dream feed tonight, see I'd it makes any difference at all.

I have to go to prom first though - going to be falling asleep in my soup! Grin

digitalgirl · 03/07/2012 09:06

Snap jambalaya we had a rubbish bedtime where he cried whenever I tried to feed him. Wouldnt go to sleep. Walked him round the room for 20 minutes then after various failed attempts to feed him with him screaming he eventually latched on for 10 minutes.
Woke at 1:30, 5, 7 and 8. Crying everytime seconds after latching on apart from at 7 where he wouldn't even feed. Haven't eaten anything odd so not sure what it could be.

Flisspaps · 03/07/2012 09:41

DS still eating non stop. Weighed him this morning and he's 'only' about 14lb, so he's being caught up by these other babies!

I think his weight gain is slowing but he's happy, weeing and pooing and certainly isn't failing to thrive as he's got some nice chub Grin He seems to have only gained 7oz in 5 weeks, but I wonder if he had an over-efficient placenta which meant he weighed more than he 'should' at birth so now he's steadied to more average weight IYSWIM?

Hmm. Having dug out his red book he's nowhere near following the 'curve'. But like I say, everything else seems fine...may see how he is next week and take him to the clinic to be weighed in case my scales are all to cock. No doubt if his weight gain has slowed the HV will recommend FF or at least FF top ups. At least he's not completely rejecting a bottle.

Did someone mention something about a normal drop off in weight gain at 4 months the other day which usually gets HVs wanting babies on FF or weaned onto solids. I actually wonder if that's more to do with weight gain slowing once a baby hits a particular weight rather than age which usually coincides with being 4mo...hmm

Just thinking out loud here really!

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 03/07/2012 09:52

OK, a quick google tells me weight plateau and slow weight gain are pretty normal in BF babies between 3 and 6 months Grin

Now if I'd not weighed him this morning I'd not be worried! Hmm

OP posts:
HenriettaChicken · 03/07/2012 10:07

Ah, Fliss - we're off to get Bill weighed today too. I'm not worried because he's clearly healthy and his sleepsuits are getting smaller - I'm more curious. I'm geekily fascinated with stats and curves and stuff!

He's been on or around the 50% curve for the last few weigh ins, but it's been a few weeks, so we'll see. Also he's been taking fewer feeds (it was 8, then went to 5 for a few days, and has now settled at 6)

He's 11 weeks today.
