Scheherezade · 12/06/2012 21:17

Mrs he has about half a beaker a day, maybe 3oz? Depends really. I offer it at mealtimes.

Scheherezade · 12/06/2012 21:20

C doesn't have any poo problems, he gets lots of blueberries and fresh pineapple each day, don't know if they help maybe?

MrsHende · 12/06/2012 22:11

Thanks Scheh!

BB3, are you in Edinburgh or Glasgow tomorrow?

BB3 · 12/06/2012 22:30

I'm In Edinburgh but will get the train to Glasgow xx

TallyBear · 12/06/2012 22:57

Re: pushchairs, I just got a Petite Star Zia second hand for £30 with cosy-toes (and slightly torn rain cover!) for holidays - light, folds up small and reclines. Seb loves it. Just a suggestion....

Penelope1980 · 12/06/2012 23:45

Thanks for the nursery advice! I thought about a child minder but didn't go for one because I have had some friends who have had bad experiences with them - one who had the kids in front of TV all day, another who only took the kids out to the supermarket, and a third whose child minder was really uncommunicative and odd. I know plenty of people who have good experiences with them, but nurseries have really strict reporting requirements and reviews, as well as complaint procedures, and I like the idea of that level of formality as well. And, child minders cost way more! I think if A was a shy baby I'd reconsider, but he's pretty social as well so I think he'll be fine

mrsH fuzzy BB3 I'm happy to meet today in Glasgow.
If its not too early for everyone there's a baby sensory type class on in st Enoch centre @ 10.30? Maybe we could meet there?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/06/2012 07:12

Re pushchairs I would definitely get a cheap one or travelling, when C was a baby and I could still afford a holiday we got the chicco london think it was about £60 from kiddicare and comes with footmuff and raincover and reclines although not completely flat and it comes in a few different colours.
Feel sorry for M, C had gone 3 foreign holidays by the age of 2yo poor M is getting 4 days at Craig Tara Sad

MrsHende · 13/06/2012 08:14

Ed, BB3 and Fuzzzy! Morning ladies, I'm free for a get together today! 10.30 at St Enoch suits me but later is fine too if that's too early?

sassy34264 · 13/06/2012 09:37

morning.

cant really comment on the sleep, poos, teeth etc as eva is probably thee best baby ever born. Grin

she sleeps, eats and poos and the time. she has her 3rd tooth coming through, but it hasnt bothered her at all.

i think she might actually be a genius!!! she now gives me a kiss if i ask her for one. Smile and she really grumbled at dp the other day when he gave her a specific toy that he normal juggles with- as if to say juggle it daddy, dont just give it me.

im always broody but i cant cope with another pregnancy. i do not breeze through them at all............blooming awful i am. Wink

i can always however, relate to moaning about dp's. had another bloody argument yesterday. mine has no fecking idea, and i have no patience tolerance of anyone who has no fecking idea!

he had a day off, so had a lie in till 8.30. i get up at 6.45. i was knackered as twins have give me quite a lot of bad nights recently. so went up for a sleep with eva. slept for 3hours Blush didnt mean to, but shows how tired i am. cue dp having a face like a smacked ass all day. eventually said to me ' do you think when im off work, im here to help you? I have loads of things to do'

not a good thing to say to me. i blew like a volcano!

WHEN'S MY FUCKING DAY OFF! WHO GIVES ME TIME OFF TO DO THINGS I NEED TO DO. WHY ARE THE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE THINGS I NEED TO DO? WHY DOES EVERYTHING THAT RELATES TO YOU, SUPERCEDE EVERYONE ELSE.

he gave me a list of all his jobs- about 7 things!

mine is about 5 times as fecking long.

god, i wish we could trade places for a month.

i must have made an impact cos he came up to me hours later to give me a hug and said 'do you hate me' laughingly. i said yes! Wink

bb3 sil is good. dp got the wrong end of the stick. from what she told me, there is still something there but it is dead cells. so she is clear of cancer now. very happy for her.

houses are slow work. we have someone waiting for one of them, so we are concentrated on that at the moment- spent all weekend there. will need trade people after this weekend- plumber, plasterer and carpet fitters and we will just need to paint/wallpaper.

mama yes dd1 is nearly 12. the set in stone ground rules are working like magic for the moment. its like a different child
soory about your ds's experience with porn. its awful isnt it. i'd be horrified if jacob comes across it at such a young age. as a lurker on the relationship threads, i think its a bane in life for everyone concerned. and anyone who tells me its normal or harmless gets a very short shift lesson in just how much problems it actually causes.

cheshire ive been to dubai twice. i love the weather- its boiling 42 degrees when we went. im a sun worshipper. it makes me happy. i have SAD all year round in this country Grin

Scheherezade · 13/06/2012 11:43

Been meaning to ask for a while fuzzzy as a nursery nurse (type person, I think?) can you suggest any good activities to do with the babies? C has a treasure basket which he loves, but most of the time I just chuck toys on the floor and let him roll around (now that he's letting me put him down).

Majority of his food is finger food, so he plays with that 3x a day. He's not interested in playing with water, apart from when in the bath - any good bath time toys/activities?

Just needing ideas, C is my first baby, and I'd never really had anything to do with babies before he came along, so I get a bit stuck! We do play tickles and sing songs. Anything I could be teaching him, to help development?

Hope you don't mind me asking Grin

strawberrypenguin · 13/06/2012 12:50

sassy great news about SIL and aww at Eva giving kisses.

scheh sounds a lot like the things I do re play time. Lots of toys on floor so W can take his pick. If I can get him to stay still for long enough we read books too. CD of action songs is good. Does your local library run a Rhyme Time (or whatever they call it) session, we go to that once a week (which is a bit weird cos I used to run it!)

Billy sat up from lying down for the first time this morning! He was very pleased with himself did it 5 times in a row with a big grin then needed a nap cos he'd worn himself out Grin

emmazed · 13/06/2012 17:51

Well done Billy! How exciting

Good question sch I often wonder if there is something else I can do. Most of J's play is with his toys which he just chooses from.

Engelsmeisje · 13/06/2012 18:50

had appt with helmet maker last week lookout. he just adjusted (took out some foam around M's ears as his head is getting bigger Grin )

have hospital appt this week to see how much head has improved and see how much longer he has to wear it for.

MrsH M drinks on average one bottle (250ml) of water/weak squash during the day. I offer it to him at his solid meals (breakfast/fruit snack/bread/dinner). also has 2x200ml bottles of formula

sassy I would blow a gasket if DH did that!

well done billy. M has only sat up 3 times from lying down, always when we're not looking and doesn't seem in a hurry to do it again!

There are some positive sides to DH being at home. I got to sit in the kitchen and get on with my marking and reports today with the kitchen door firmly shut, while he entertained Max (of course I still had to do all the meals, changing, washing up, bath, putting to bed,)..but at least I'm nearly finished with marking for this school year! The downs ide is that he's been watching awful survival type programmes on Discovery all day when I'd much rather be watching trashy American dramas (am addicted to Revenge right now!)

ipswichwitch · 13/06/2012 19:42

mrsHi think N has about 3oz water from his beaker but I also use it to make his porridge ( bout half milk half water). I did all the right things regarding foods to give/avoid but didn't make much difference to his constipation. He's still on lactulose but popping much better so am gonna keep him on it for a while.
Was first day at work today, N has been havin a great time at nursery, taking some ebm from a bottle, and eating a little solids too. Think he's copying the other babies!! Work was horrendous as somebody put an extra list of patients in, didn't write it in the diary then booked the regular workload in too, so spent the day doing 2 people's jobs!! Least it went fast but had some bother trying to get time to express. Who was it who has been expressing (forget my own name these days!), how often do you express through the day? Only managed to do it twice today but don't want to affect my supply as I want to bf on weekends so not sure if I should do more.
Fingers crossed you get the job pa

Scheherezade · 13/06/2012 19:51

Right. I'm going to broach this subject again, as I'm really clueless what to do. C having 2x 6oz and 2x 5oz bottles a day, plus 3 meals. I'm worried about him having too much. Those who are ff, if you've reduced bottles, how did you do it. He still really wants his 11am bottle, and if he doesn't eat much at lunch (blw) he's hungry for his 3pm. I could always bring his dinner earlier from 5-4 I suppose.

Just worried about over feeding and him getting fat :(

Jnice · 13/06/2012 19:57

Scheh I don't think you need worry about C getting fat - as long as he's in control of what he eats and you feed nutritious food (as I know you do!).

If you want him to eat more for lunch you could switch the timing so he eats at 11 and has his bottle afterwards - he may gradually taper off on that one as he is full from eating.

Try to let him lead the way Wink

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 13/06/2012 20:00

sch at this age, everything is helping with development. Hearing you talk and do things is helping him to copy and learn by himself so describe everything that you do while you do it. For example 'shall we put the cup in the sink?' or 'there is a red ball'. May sound silly as he is only young but it all helps. When C is chatting away, chat back to him in baby talk. Songs, stories and rhymes are great for this age. Even change the tone of your voice for different characters. Songs with actions are good to do every day. Pick one song, sing it at least once a day with the actions and I can guarantee that in a few months he will start to copy you when you sing it.
Toys or pictures that are just black and white are good for babies. For some reason, they are able to focus better on pictures without colour (this is why a lot of newer toys have sections of just black and white). We made a wall in our nursery black and white squares with different textures on each square. The kids loved it!

It's also never to young to start with messy play. I gave S gloop for the first time last week and she loved it. It's only cornflour (which is about £1 a box) and some water. You can add a drop of food colour and even some flavouring just to get the senses going (and if he eats it, won't do any harm!). Let him feel it in his hands, it's a great one as it looks solid but then you try pick it up and it melts through your fingers. Get involved to and again describe everything that your doing. Other messy things that we played with is cold cooked spaghetti and rice krispies (also encourages their fine motor skills in trying to pick them up). Give him some spoons and just let him make a mess. You can even use a shallow tub as they are able to sit next to it on the floor when playing.
Fill some empty bottles with different things ie rice, lentils, some water mixed with oil, water and glitter. He will enjoy making the noise and receiving the praise from you when you do it. S really loves bubbles just now. So again something really cheap but lots of fun!
The treasure basket is great. We had one that was filled with all natural and every day objects ie a bunch of keys, a small bell, square of cut up bath mat, few wooden spoons, a small purse, jar lids... I did have a print out of what it should contain and if I find it, I'll copy it. We would take it out for 20 mins at a time, allow babies to have a good rummage then it would be put away for a bit. I really need to get one organized for S as I know she would enjoy it now

Hope this helps a bit for you Smile

PenguinArmy · 13/06/2012 20:14

i expressed once a day when DD was this age, supply is pretty great now and you would have to do some severe damage to effect it.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 13/06/2012 20:16

sassy Angry I'd be raging as well with dp for that too. Yes to switching places for a month. They wouldn't have a clue after a day!!! A male friend of mine put on fb recently 'so it's only 1pm and so far I've takin the boy (15 months) swimming, to asda, the post office and mcds for lunch. No idea what women moan about that they can't ever get stuff done' Angry. Typically all the men agreed with him. If that was all women had to do in the day as well it would be an easy life!!!
So glad to hear sil is doing much better Smile

sp yay for billy!! That's great. Laughed that he done it 5 times then needed a nap GrinGrin

ips glad first full day at nursery was a success Smile. Can't help with the expressing but I'm sure someone will have wise words.

engel glad you had a good day and got everything done. How long do you get off for the summer?

sch S just dropped her 11am bottle herself. I've brought lunch forward a bit though so its now 7am 7oz, 11am, rice cake/bread stick, 12pm lunch, 2pm small snack followed by 7oz, 5pm dinner, 7pm 7oz. Can you maybe drop a few oz gradually over a few weeks and maybe he will eat more food? I'm sure he will let you know when he's had enough of it.

Had a great day here today. Meet up with lovely mrsh, ed and bb3. Eds C had fun taking great care of all 4 baby girls!

Engelsmeisje · 13/06/2012 21:24

great ideas fuzzy !

I get 7 weeks holiday Smile After tomorrow have 2 weeks left, though next week is winding down lessons and activity days and the week after is just meetings. Am so pleased with myself for getting most of it done today (even though it means I haven't done anything else). Only have one set of reports left (for a tiny class) and bits and bobs to mark tomorrow from kids who've missed work/been ill/are lazy buggers and giving it in late. Still have a lot of other stuff to do - mainly planning for next year and tidying up cupboards - but always feel I can relax a bit once all the marking is done and grades are in.

This time last year I was 6 months pregnant and running around like a crazy person, thinking the school would fall apart without me and preparing folders and folders of support material for the teachers covering my maternity leave. Grin

Going to be weird going back up to 3 days a week next year. Am so glad the nursery didn't have space and I ended up doing 2 days the last few months.

Am feeling a bit guilty that I've been bitching at DH so much. It's not his fault that he hurt himself. To be honest at first I almost didn't believe him and thought he was exaggerating a bit, but his calf has come up in really nasty dark purple bruises where he ruptured or tore the muscle and the whole calf is a rather nasty yellowy colour. I feel mean that I didn't take it very seriously! Still, he's on his own tomorrow with M. Am going to get M up before I go to work so DH doesn't have to carry him down the stairs.

glad to hear that you had a good day up in Glasgow ladies!

Tangointhenight · 13/06/2012 21:32

Hi there everyone, I hope you don't mind if I join the thread..have been having a read.

I have a DD who was born in October '11 aswell. She is an absolute joy but an absolute rascal at the same time!! I had a bit of a bad pregnancy, traumatic birth, PND , she had reflux and colic and the first 6 months were a blur really. She isn't crawling yet but close, and has two bottom teeth with a third one on its way!

Anyway hope you all don't mind me gategcrashing :o

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 13/06/2012 21:38

Great examples of what to add to a treasure basket. don't tell anyone it's netmums

MrsHende · 13/06/2012 22:23

Welcome Tango! All welcome here! Sounds like your past year or so have been tough - it can only get better!

Sassy, I love you. I want your rant printed out onto postcards just to hand over to DH every now and then, save me having to say it over and over.

Had a lovely time with BB3, Ed, C and Fuzzzy - and of course all the gorgeous baby girls! Photos of us on FB.

Thanks Eng and ips, much better day today, two lovely full nappies and a much happier girl. She's drinking more water each day - still just getting the hang of the sippy cup I think. I think it was an Ella's kitchen raisin and prune yoghurt pouch that she had yesterday that got things moving! She had another one today

Jnice · 13/06/2012 22:31

I love the treasure basket idea - must do that this weekend. Thanks to whoever posted it (sorry - on iPhone!)

Sassy loved your rant! My favorite ridiculous phrase that my DH uttered was that I may be working too but he has to think at work. I just laughed in his face, then reminded him that driving the kids around tired was at least one activity that demands my brain is functioning!
