cheshire well done P

fd so exciting, i bet it will be amazing. We are going away on Friday, but only to jersey do v short flight. Cant wait tho, be SO nice to get away. Not sure how relaxing holiday with a baby will be tho....

How long after weaning did you introduce dairy, gluten/wheat etc? Weaning going really well, j happily eating lots of fruit, veggies, baby rice and baby cereal but not sure when to start introducing things like yoghurt and cheese?

CheshireDing · 01/05/2012 19:21

Penguin I like the times at the moment when P wants to still be a kling-on and sleep on me because they are not very often now

Emma P has been having Natural yoghurts for ages now and some add-hoc Petit Filous (prob spelt wrong), she has had cheese on toast too (but then she is a feral feeding monster slightly into her food baby) Grin

Penguin did you try peanut butter the other day?

PenguinArmy · 01/05/2012 19:52

oh yes, nothing to write home about. We gave it to him in a sandwich.

emmazed if 6 months, then whenever it is convenient to do so IMO. DS's first six month food was bread as he is always stealing mine. He has his sisters cut off crusts as a snack now

MrsHende · 01/05/2012 20:40

FF ladies, help!

I'm in a bit of a pickle with sterilising and making up feeds, I can't get it into my head what's allowed and not allowed.

I'm trying to offer a bottle at every feed then pouring it down the sink in the vain hope she'll take a bottle sometime soon.

How do you organise bottles, water and formula? When do you sterilise? How hot is the water. I read someplace that you boil a kettle of fresh water, then leave it to cool for 30mins and that's the right temp - how does that work if she needs fed NOW and not in 30mins? What about taking milk out and about?

ARGH! Explain it in idiot proof terms to me, please! (And much kudos to those of you who managed to do this and keep it straight in your head when the babies were tiny!)

Thank you Smile

FuzzzyDuck · 01/05/2012 21:16

mrsH invest in a flask. Boil water in the morning, fill flask then you have hot water ready for ASAP moments. I know roughly when S is due milk so I can make it just before. Quickest way would be fill bottle with boiled water, either leave for 10 mins or dunk in a jug of cold water just to cool it slightly then add powder. Shake and stand in cold water again till at right temp. You could make a bottle in advance, rapid cool and put to back of fridge. For out and about, I just use cartons, easiest thing. I have 6 bottle, she uses 4 a day so I just wash and sterilise at night, but to be honest, I used a bottle that had just been washed in hot soapy water and no I'll effects. Think as she is now over 6 months, it's not absolutely essential. How is it going?

ipswichwitch · 01/05/2012 21:39

emma we've given N yoghurt, which he loves, and some cauliflower cheese I made for tea tonight. He wasn't too keen at first but was quite happy dunking his green beans in it then sucking it off the beans before chewing them to death!! He also had some toast and think more went in his hair than in his mouth but seemed to be enjoying himself!

Thanks penguin for the advice. Had been wondering how much milk he'd need for the day , although he'll probably refuse bottles as he has been for last 2 month. He takes water fairly well from cup with spout so do you spose we could try milk in it?
Been discussing when to try him with fish, n wondering why the hell we didn't think of fish fingers!

LittlePebble · 01/05/2012 21:43

Ha ha mrsh I've been having exact same issues I am a bit better now at organising bottles but it takes planning and forethought not my strong points Blush

Em have a lovely break

Penguin we tried peanut butter the other day too but by accident as he stole my toast. No reaction though Wink

fuzzzy are you packed?

strawberrypenguin · 01/05/2012 21:58

mrsH make up all your bottles in one go (we have 6) we make them up in the evening before going to bed and have been doing it like this since W was a opulent of weeks old on the advice of a MW. Wash and Sterilise your bottles at the sme time you have the kettle boiling (if you don't have a microwave steriliser may I recommend them) leave the kettle 10 mins or so, pour water into bottles, add powder, put the lid on them and thn put them straight in the fridge to rapid cool. You can then take them out and reheat them in a mug of water as needed (much quicker than having to make from scratch) I find that most of the time now W will take them cold if he's hungry though he oes still like them warm.

Re weaning, I need to try W on cheese again, his firs experience of it in cauliflower cheese was dramatically wicked back up 10 mins after eating. My MIL and her father have a cheese intollerance so I'm hoping it was just coincidence and he hasn't inherrited this.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/05/2012 22:02

cheshire yes J loves broccoli Smile actually anything that's food.
Hehe at Velcro - loved pic of him with his daddy on fb.

em J has yoghurt, math/butter, cheese, toast, bread sticks, mackerel, tuna, cod, salmon, chicken, chocolate (a teeny tiny teeny little bit), ice cream (a bit more than a teeny tiny bit Blush.

Today however her diet has consisted of
Bf 7am
Small Bf 8.30
Breakfast - chewed and sucked 3 prunes, diluted prune juice.
Rest of bf
11.30 bf
12.30 Lunch - more prune and diluted prune juice, strawberry, pear, apple, small amount of smoked cheese, homemade (by her brothers) banana cake.
2 bf and nap
4.30 bf
5pm Dinner - and more prunes. Tuna, a little chuck of jacket potato, peas and a petit filous.
8 bf (late night tonight)
Will bf at 10.30/11

And she wakes at around 1 and 4 for bf.

She managed to poo but was still very hard and much crying over it Sad. I took sennakot last night and will again tonight.y boys never had constipation. It's horrible hearing her crying needing to poo and then crying because it hurt to go.

FuzzzyDuck · 01/05/2012 22:19

mama could you offer some water in a cup? That helps S when she is a bit blocked. Even a few sips gets things going

FuzzzyDuck · 01/05/2012 22:30

lp in half packed BlushGrin. Got some done today whole S was with her gran. As we are staying with family, I don't need to take much apart from clothes, bottles and her milk powder! How did you manage with E on your lap to Italy? The 7 1/2 hr flight is now worrying me. She is such a fidget now Confused

Penelope1980 · 01/05/2012 22:53

Just another q on the bottles - and possibly a stupid one - but why can't you heat water in the microwave? I have been told I can't, but not sure why ...

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 01/05/2012 22:56

fuzzy good advice. Usually i do, today I added 1 part prune juice to 7 parts water so try and get her going. She had that with each meal. Usually it's just plain water.

Jnice · 02/05/2012 03:56

Hi all! Very interested in reading about all the babies' diets. We have started solids now with lunches only - I'm finding the commitment hard! I'm very used to having food (boobs) available at a seconds notice and planning lunch for Leo is hardwork. Also not ready to do it out and about do a bit tied to home.

Today he had green beans, carrots and pasta, much gnawing sucking and a bit of gagging- then a slice of apple which was very popular but caused a bit of almost choking and a big cry Sad I was ready to whip him out and try to recollect infant CPR but he sorted himself out thank goodness. I think I need to go easy on the harder foods for now as he is gumming chunks off and not ready for it!

Anyone else doing pure BLW? Have you had any incidents?

Jnice · 02/05/2012 03:57

Mama - how is J doing? Still constipated? Hope she's doing better. Have you tried doing bicycle legs with her while she's pooing to help?

strawberrypenguin · 02/05/2012 08:16

pene it's because microwaves don't always heat things evenly so you can get 'hot spots' that might scald.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/05/2012 08:19

Re microwaves strawberry is right however as long as you shake/stir really vigorously and leave for a minute or do its fine obviously just test temp first.

LittlePebble · 02/05/2012 08:33

Fuzzzy I was sneaky, I checked to see if there were still tickets for the flight a couple of hrs before we flew and there were so I knew it wasn't fully booked. So we sat on plane and I put e on seat, ready to move him onto my lap if anyone asked to sit there but no one did (worked both ways) so I had him on my lap for take off and landing but we had the seat for him to sit in the rest of the time. Grin

PenguinArmy · 02/05/2012 08:51

DS regulary gags and then brings up a load of milk. Harder foods like raw apple are more likely to cause incidents, so maybe plump for the softer varieties of leave for a little while. We had a similar issue with a not very ripe pear yesterday.

Flights, I found if you have the baby cot, then there is enough leg room to not worry about more space. Plus people tend to leave you if there are other seats as they dont like the idea of sitting next to a baby Grin Just because you have the big seat doesnt mean you need to have the cot up, they tend to ask you first before they bother setting it up.

FuzzzyDuck · 02/05/2012 09:03

lp Grin that's great!! We looked at getting the cot, but it would have ment we would have to 'pre book' the bulk head seats at £80 each!! I told them in a nice way to bugger off!! Might aswell have paid for a seat if that was the case. I tend when flying to Canada or America to go to back of plane where it tends to be more empty. Couple of times I've had 3 seats to myself!! Will be trying again Smile
What ed says. If you give good shake/stir and leave for a min, the temp will even out

Jnice · 02/05/2012 09:32

Thanks penguin! It was a softer kind of apple but very early days I suppose. Maybe I should cook them slightly.

ipswichwitch · 02/05/2012 09:55

jnice poor Leo, hope it's not put him off. We doing a mix of purée and blw. N has has green beans which he sucks and clamps his gums down on then pulls out of his mouth so he's getting the insides out, eating that then chucking rest on floor!! No incidents with apple chunks yet but I'm keeping a beady eye on him.

Seems we're not the only ones having probs with poo! N going about every other day . Loads of bother with wind though. He's always been a windy baby but now screaming with pain during the night for last 3 nights, bringing knees to his chest, then finally having a good pump and settling again. Last night was worst, I managed 1 hr of sleep only because DP got up for work early so he could soothe N and give me a rest bless him. Off to drs today as its getting worse and calpol not touching it. Giving him prunes, water, bicycling legs etc but nothing making much difference.

Penelope1980 · 02/05/2012 11:22

Thanks for the microwave advice! I shall leave the bottles for a minute or so before using them.

Oh no ipswich you must be exhausted. I have no advice sorry other than what you're already doing, but you have my sympathy. A's problem at present is lots of vomiting - lots and lots. Am starting to wonder how much is being a spilly baby and how much may mean he's ill. It's been a little yellow as well, but could be the formula.

Maybe my baby did a poo on behalf of yours today? We had the worst poonami yet, one which soaked his sheets and cot matress. Sigh.

OP posts:
EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/05/2012 12:40

Love the word poonami Grin

For those with backed up babies have u switched to follow on milk?

MamaMaiasaura · 02/05/2012 13:10

ed no J is bf. I think we may have breakthrough Grin lots of red faced grunting and no screaming!!! She's still stuffing her face eating so I've not "looked"
