Thanks for the advice re finger foods, I am just trying to be persistant. Or, should I say DH is, as I am at work most of the week Grin He ate a tiny bit of banana tonight, so having some progress.

I too have been having bad nights, A just isn't sleeping. Don't know why. I wish he'd sleep through.

pebb;le A looks a lot older now too, at not quite 8.5 months he looks like a little boy a lot of the time now. He's been delightful though these past few days, lots of laughing and yelling. Love it.

Pen I think A and E must be similar size from photos. It's a lovely age now I'm enjoying him more each day Grin

MrsHende · 12/06/2012 07:42

Good luck today PA!

Jealous of your Dubai trip Cheshire Envy, has anyone else got nice holidays planned?

I hope L stayed asleep Jnice.

Hooray for all those achievements ips!

Eng, I feel your pain Sad.

to everyone else!

MrsHende · 12/06/2012 07:46

Meant to say, I hope countrymama is ok and has had a good scan!

Also, loving the newborn pics - my SIL had a wee boy on Thursday and we're going up to visit this weekend. Can't wait for a newborn cuddle!

Engelsmeisje · 12/06/2012 09:06

jnice M was really complaining the other week about his lower teeth, but they still haven't come through yet (I can see them though the gum). Yay for proper nap!

Well, DH is not being too much of a baby about his leg, I'm just grumpy because it means he's home all week. On the bright side he's perfectly capable of supervising M while playing so I can get on with some marking in the other room (last week of lessons here so all assignments and tests have to be done, reports have to be written by Monday)

M has been trying to pull himself up so instead of being on hands and knees he's on hands and toes!

I'm broody too mama but we have agreed to wait until M is at least 1 before we talk about it again (though DH wants to wait til M is 2 before we talk about it!). probably for the best with DHs health right now, I'm not sure if he could deal with another DC right now (and not sure if I could cope with him not coping iyswim). So have just been along to GP for a new pill prescription - hoping my skin will clear up a bit.

We're thinking about a maclaren as well cheshire . Want something smaller to take in the car on holiday.

em sorry to hear about your mum. Sending you hugs and positive thoughts.

well done J and N Smile

good luck today penguin

sorry if I've missed anyone.

Penelope1980 · 12/06/2012 09:08

It is a lovely age Smile

We have to decide between two nurseries and I am overthinking it faaar too much but can't decide! Is anyone else obsessing about childcare? He wouldn't go until Sept/Oct, but I have just latched onto is as something to worry about.

We have 2 choices - a slightly better one that is less convenient to get to, or one that is next door but bigger and has older children. The one next door is also being assessed for earthquake strengthening and has no guarantee that it is "earthquake safe" so am weighing that up as well. Would that influence you? Wellington hasn't had an earthquake that's killed anyone for over 150 years, but the entire city is on a fault line so people have been talking about "the big one" coming for years. Ever since the Chch earthquake last year the rules are tighter about what is considered safe as well and buildings are being pulled down or strengthened all over the city now and the nursery people said there is even a chance the nursery will have to move. I just don't know.

But then, it is next door.

pene we spent ages deciding on nursery for N and went for the better one, only 7 mins away by car but in wrong direction for work do will be getting up even earlier
Just dropped N off for the morning at nursery, it's his 3rd settling in session before he starts tomorrow 7.30-5 , and I'm at work (sob)
Have to confess I cried when I got back in :(, so made a cup of tea and am currently eating all the custard creams. Feel a bit sick now, but justifying major biscuit binge by virtue of the fact I have to remove the cheaper biccies to get to the posh ones I hid at the bottom of the tin (well hidden from DP ha!)
Feeling rather sad, so I plan to scrub the house from top to bottom so I don't sit n bulb all morning

Engelsmeisje · 12/06/2012 09:33

we plumped for the one opposite us. It has a good reputation but is slightly more expensive as it is a private nursery rather than a council run one. But for us, the fact that we don't have to get in the car is a huge bonus. Means that I can get home from work and potter around a bit/start dinner before strolling over to collect M and also makes things easy for drop off in the morning when the traffic is horrendous.

If they'd had space then M would have started there in March when I went back to work, but now he's starting in August. have our intake meeting the first week of my summer holiday to finalize everything.

Sending you a big hug ips

BB3 · 12/06/2012 09:38

Hey ladies I keep losing you all from my phone!

Second holiday in June is going well. Wedding was in the caves in Edinburgh which whilst lovely was not at all practical for children so we didn't stay that long.

Today we are driving up to loch ness to see Nessy.

Em - hope you're mum is ok.

Ipswitch, I wouldn't worry about milestones - ds crawled at 5 months walked at 9 but at 3 still doesn't speak (albeit because of his hearing problems) but they all have different progression levels, I really wouldn't worry about it. Ayse-Rose is very physical and is currently obsessed with climbing all over everyone and thing copying her brother, whilst Edie is like a killer whale belly flopping around the floor (the only time she crawls properly is to get to food the rest of the time she kind of lolls around helplessly!

Ed, I absolutely love johnny depp, I (kind of) met him once at a work thing and he is heart stoppingly beautiful!

Pa - good luck

Country, hope scan is ok.

Sassy how are houses? Kids? Sil?

Buggy on planes - buy a cheap stroller and if you can a stroller bag.

Sorry if I've missed anyone

Xx

emmazed · 12/06/2012 09:54

cheshire we also have a MacLaren. Bought for a holiday, and now lives in the boot of the car so don't need to take apart and lift our huge bugaboo (we were given it, would never have bought such an enormous buggy). I love the MacLaren, it is so much smaller and lighter and the hood goes really low for when he is sleeping. From my perspective it was worth spending a bit extra to get one which lies flat so we could go out at night on hol with him asleep. Apparently oh baby also does a lie flat one which is much cheaper than the MacLaren.

emmazed · 12/06/2012 10:01

Thanks for the good wishes. All ok at the moment, just going through the treatment. I suppose the real test is that it doesn't come back. She will be having treatment of sorts for 5 years so a long slog

I just made an appoint to see the nursery near me pene. I think close by is important, but you don't want to be driven mad worrying about earthquakes. I would actually prefer a child minder if poss, but difficult to find I think.

strawberrypenguin · 12/06/2012 13:55

Hi, just a quick pop in will try and catch up a bit better later

ips how's N settling in is he ok. Not looking forward to having to do this myself soon.

em glad to hear your mums doing OK x

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 12/06/2012 14:43

mrsh, Ed, bb3 are we meeting up tomorrow?

Scheherezade · 12/06/2012 15:16

Lots of posts! Not jealous of all of you looking for nurseries - has anyone gone for a childminder instead? if I went back to work, I'd have to go for a childminder, because its cheaper.

CheshireDing · 12/06/2012 18:49

Fuzzzy I am excited about going on the Airbus but a bit worried too as from memory a couple of them have had engine trouble. A client at work said it's lovely (but that she was in first class) < I can only imagine >

Anyway you have been to Canada, Pebble went to Italy, Jnice has been away too and I have not had a holiday since June! Sniff Sad BB3 is always on holiday Grin

Engels is M doing press-ups? P looks so funny when she does those.

Aww Ipswich have you bought a Lottery ticket for tonight so you could both stay home instead tomorrow? Grin

Thanks Em I will look at obaby too as I was wondering about us going out in the evening and her sleeping. Will go and look at both tomorrow. Have you rang your local Council? They give you a list of childminders based around your postcode. Our friends Daughter (2) goes to a childminder but he said he feels as though Daughter spends a lot of time doing the school run (am and pm) whereas at nursery she would be playing/eating at these times. Not saying they are no good at all just thought I would say.

Pene imo I would go for the better nursery, because what happens if it gets demolished or you move it won't be the closest one then anyway?

CheshireDing · 12/06/2012 18:50

Scheh are you staying home then? Envy

lookout · 12/06/2012 19:00

Scheh we're not looking yet either. Feel very lucky as I know so many people have to go back to work when they don't want to. We don't have a lot of money btw, just we don't have a mortgage or loans or anything we owe money on, so are able to survive on what dh earns and a bit of help which I am embarrassed about so hope noone notices

When I went back after ds1, we used a childminder. She was brilliant but it is true that he spent an hour in the car every afternoon. It was his nap time so didn't turn out to bad in the end :-) And the advantage of being in a home with kids of different ages was more important to us in the end.

PA how did the presentation go?
engels was helmet appt last Friday or this coming one?
ips how did it go today?

whoever it was said about the newborn pics making them broody me too! And I had completely sworn against having another!

We are in the midst of bad nights and fussy days again, after having had a couple of amazingly great weeks where everything seemed to be getting better Sad I am exhausted again, E is not feeding well during the day (so unlike him) and up at night. He is dribbling a lot so might be that, but also according to the WW chart on fb, we are in for a fussy period.

About that, can someone explain what these fussy periods are meant to 'represent', according to the Wonder Weeks principles?

MamaMaiasaura · 12/06/2012 19:16

Horrendous night, whining crying day.... Then poonami (it was adult size!) poor jessica her bum must have Biscuit.

But happy baby and hoping better night

I'm sahm too till babies older. Dh earns enough for us to manage but we have to be careful.

Scheherezade · 12/06/2012 19:56

Cheshire I lost my job when preg so getting a job would be quite complicated, I live in a small rural village and don't drive so working out logistics of dropping C off/picking up plus cost of childcare & transport... I don't know if it would be worth me looking for a job. I had only just graduated from uni (summer 2010) and got a little office job when I became preg (January 2011). My plan was to get as much experience as I could, do some volunteering and look at health&social care careers. But then C came along!

I'd still like to go to uni to do a postgrad in mental health nursing. It's just I can't afford the childcare :(

Oh yeah, I was officially discharged from hospital yesterday! Sane again Grin

PenguinArmy · 12/06/2012 19:59

great news sch

don't think the interview went that well (presentation went fine), there was a area i wanted to read upon but with everything that happened I didn't and it came back to sting me. It wasn't a bad interview just the chemistry didn't play out well. Hopefully hear confirmation either way soon.

DS's fever broke today so that's a good thing and DH had a good time taking them to playgroup. maybe DS will sleep better tonight, but judging by things so far i am guessing not.

no broodiness here, I still at look at newborns, think awww for a few moments and then feel sorry for the parents Grin

MamaMaiasaura · 12/06/2012 20:01

scheh when I did nursing at uni they had on site nursery and lots of help financially with cost of childcare too. Might be worth checking out Smile

PenguinArmy · 12/06/2012 20:05

what didn't help was forgetting to try on my outfit at the weekend, so today I discovered my only pair of smart trousers were far too big, requiring some severe belting and a longer than planned top.

Scheherezade · 12/06/2012 20:09

Poor J mama hope all is well with poops now! I find diluted orange juice makes C go almost instantly, if he doesn't have it every day he can't poo or does v hard poos.

MrsHende · 12/06/2012 20:39

Sorry you didn't feel the interview went well PA, how frustrating that it was something you knew you wanted to read up on that came up. Real life really gets in the way doesn't it.

Poor J mama!

L is suffering with constipation just now too for the first time. Are there any other tips?

Scheh, we've been giving her diluted orange juice, that's a good tip to keep going with that even once she gets over this wee spell.

I wonder if part of the problem is not drinking enough during the day? How much water/diluted fresh orange do your babies drink in general ladies?

BB3 · 12/06/2012 20:44

Scheh, yay for dischare

Cheshire - Grin I wish - July and august will hit me round the head with a ginormous stick with no time off at all!

Pa - fingers crossed anyway, you never know!

Fuzz, I'm still around tomorrow if it still works for everyone. I'll Facebook you my mobile xxx
