Oh gys. How very sad. Big hugs

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2012 21:14

Oh Gsy, that's awful. How sad for everyone involved and of course your poor cousin. I hope you're ok. What an awful shock.

Starshaped · 14/08/2012 22:57

Gsy - what awful news for your family. Thinking of you all Sad

ecuse · 15/08/2012 08:22

Oh, God, Gsy. How awful. Sending love to you and your family xx

Daisy17 · 15/08/2012 08:28

I'm so sorry, Gsy. X.

GlaikitFizzog · 15/08/2012 13:43

Oj Gsy :( I am so sorry. Thinking of you and your family now xx

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 15/08/2012 21:49

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts.. We are from a large family, my gran had 10 children. Amongst her many granchildren there were 5 of us girls born within 3 years. We all lived close by and often played together as children although had lost touch a bit as we got older.
I have kept in touch with her sister and it is her I really feel for. I can't imagine what she must be going through.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/08/2012 14:29

Gsy I'm so sorry :(

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/08/2012 09:53

How are you doing Gsy? You've been in my thoughts.

It is scorchio here today and the last couple of days. I'm glad we installed an air-con unit into ds3's room last month. It seemed a bit of an extravagance at the time, but it's defo worth it as his bedroom is in full sun pretty much from sun rise to sun set.

Starshaped · 19/08/2012 09:57

Air con Envy. I wish we had some here! It's absolutely horrid- not really that sunny up north but hot, humid and muggy. Poor DD has been a sweaty mess every time she's woken up lately.

In light of the weather, is it wrong that my mind has turned to Christmas?! I think I might start my chutney making this week!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/08/2012 12:25

I have been starting to think about Christmas too. I LOVE it and think about and plan it for months Blush Which is rather ridiculous as it is 31 degrees in the shade here

GlaikitFizzog · 19/08/2012 12:53

Did you guys not get my memo? Once my birthday has passed, the Christmas countdown can begin!

Still waiting for the choir videos. Can you believe the guy editing them had the cheek to go on holiday! And also in choir news, our choir master stepped down, stating personal life commitments nothing to do with him pissing everyone and his dog off recently and I am now choir mistress Shock. I'm slightly scared and nervous but also really excited. I hope they don't turn onm me.

B got his first proper shoes on friday as his feet are now big enough. I braved the living hell that is Clarks. £32 British pounds for a pair of size 3.5g shoes!! Can anyone recommend online retailers? I refuse to be held to ransom by Clarks, even though they are the only shop in town that measures children's feet.

Was in to Edinburgh to the festival yesterday with a friend. Had a boozy lunch saw a couple of shows, train home and ordered pizza! It was great!

Kittycatcat · 19/08/2012 18:45

B is the same size as s. recommendations also great fully received.

Christmas. I have two nights out and a family lunch booked in already!!

Had my baby shower today. Cheeky to have two but so did my sil and she organised it.

Starshaped · 19/08/2012 19:34

Phew, glad I'm not the only one counting down to Christmas. The sun has come out again here now though, so I might delay the planning until another night!

I know I've whinged about this before but I'm concerned that DD's feet are a whole size bigger than S and B's. I don't want her to be a big footed beast! I'm a 6.5 and have always been well jel of my friends with dainty little feet... No suggestions on the non Clarks front though I'm afraid. P's had three pairs of shoes so far and they've all been from there - however I've picked them all up in the sale, so I've only paid £14 each for them. Last time, I got her feet measured in the shop and then bought the shoes from the sale section on their website. Free postage and you can then take them back into the shop to get them fitted.

Congrats on the Choir Mistressing Fizz - you're our answer to Gareth Malone!

Can't believe it's baby shower time Kitty. You're really going to have another snuggly little newborn soon!

Daisy17 · 19/08/2012 19:45

Starshaped don't panic, S is a 4.5 already and he's quite small for his age generally!

Starshaped · 19/08/2012 19:46

Phew, thanks Daisy - as long as she's not the only one rocking a 4.5!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/08/2012 19:51

Star - T is a 5, I don't think it bears much relation to how big their feet end up.

Fizz - good luck with the choir mistress-ness, you will be great I am sure. We've got a Jones the Bootmaker where they measure children's feet and they are brilliant. They do stock Clarks, but also Start-rite, Echo, Geox, Kickers and Converse.
I loathe Clarks with a passion, the staff in both the branches here are rude, bossy, unhelpful.

Gsy I hope you're ok.

We have been up at my grandma's this weekend. Lovely to see her, but utterly exhausting. She has little concept of food hygiene and clean toilets, although the beds are always spotless and lovely - very bizarre!

DS1 starts school in 3 weeks. Gulp.

Kittycatcat · 19/08/2012 20:20

Oh yes congrats fizz.

Eek ali. Bet that's flown by?!

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 20/08/2012 01:04

I am Ok, thanks for all the love.

Ali what date does school start for you? DS is starting on Monday 10th. We will have to do some mutual handholding and prepare those stiff upper lips for at the school gate then come and post on MN afterwards, whilst blubbing our eyes outSmile

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/08/2012 07:36

Ds2 isn't starting school this year (he misses the cutoff date by 8 days!), but I will come on here and cry with you because I will be imagining what a state I will be in in a years time Blush

Fizz - I haven't found a cheap shoe site as such, I just tend to trawl the sales. Jones often have good sales, as do John Lewis. Or if you know what shoe you want I search for it online, but if it is current season you often can't find it cheaper than it is in the shops.

Brantano stock older seasons Clarks I believe, I don't know what kind of price they are though. I also think Clarks are over priced because they are often synthetic materials rather than leather. I have found the Clarks sizes to be more generous than most other makes, in width and length.

The Kickers website often sells off old stock at a good price, but Kickers tend to be cut on the narrow side, so often not good for little pudgy baby feet.

I know too much about children's shoes don't I? Blush

Ds3 is a 6 and will probably be a 6.5 or 7 by the time he goes into winter shoes. I have raised a family of Big Foots Shock

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/08/2012 07:38

Oh, and forgot to say. What will your first song be as choir mistress Fizz ?

I bloody love Gareth Malone.

GlaikitFizzog · 20/08/2012 08:28

All show knowledge welcome!! I'll have a snoop at the kickers website.

First song is going to be California Dreaming I think. I have the sheet music already in 4 part harmony and I've done it before with another group. I went to see and a Capella group at the festival at the weekend who were fab and the did a version of David guettas Titanium, so I'm going to see if I can get that music too. I might be being overly optimistic, but if you don't try you'll never know.

ecuse · 20/08/2012 11:41

Ladies I'll see your 3.5G and I'll raise you a 3.5H. I have succumbed to these Clarkes monstrosities in the end as there seems to be just no alternative for my little square-footed miss. She's quite pleased with them, though. There are lots of lovely online baby shoes retailers but I can't find any except Clarks and Startrite that do width fittings, and they seem to sell only monstrosities. Please god let me know if I'm wrong as I can't face shelling out £30 for hideous shoes every couple of months. At least the choice should get wider after she hits a size 5...

Hope you're OK, Gsy, thinking of you xx

GlaikitFizzog · 20/08/2012 11:51

Aw they are quite sweet ecuse. these are Bs clumpy clogs

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/08/2012 11:58

Gsy his first day is the 11th, they have got a staggered start morning and then the 12th is first day proper in uniform etc. There is an inset day on the Monday, thank goodness, because we are due to land back from Italy at 4pm on the Sunday afternoon and will all be fairly knackered (family wedding).

I don't think you can really get cheap shoes, although I do get mine a pair of cheap trainers from Sainsbury's to knock around the garden and the park in. T is still in his sandals, I'm hoping to get another 2-3 weeks out of them and then get him some proper shoes for when the weather turns cooler.
