P can be the same at bedtime UBW. She won't scream if we stay in the room whilst she's in her cot but that can be a right PITA as she can take an absolute age to settle. some evenings DH and I don't eat until gone 10pm. Shortening her nap during the day and the time she takes the nap makes no difference. she rarely naps longer than an hour anyway. I am grateful that at least once she does settle she sleeps through.

We don't have a 12mo check here. P had one at 8mo which was basically the baby proofing lecture and the next one in her red book is at 2yrs. I havn't had her weighed since her birthday at the end of March. I so must get round to going to the lovely helpful Hmm HV drop-in session.

Re: MMR. P had her MMR with whichever nurse was on duty for the day at my GP surgery. Apart from asking about her current general health before giving the jab nothing else was asked.

I sympathise with the grazed knee Fizz. As P insists on always walking everywhere on her knees (steps, doorways, metal stairgate, no problem) her legs are always covered in bruises. I have taken to talking LOUDLY about her knee walking antics and making her permanently wear leggings due to the amount of bad mother looks I was getting. Blush

MrsWajs · 11/08/2012 01:10

R has just started to do the same UBW We still put her to bed at normal time but instead of just going to sleep like she used to, she know screams until she realises we're not going back to get her up again and then plays and flings herself around the cot for at least an hour before finally crashing out! And falling asleep later does not equate to longer lies either mores the pity :(

We had a 10mo check in October I think and that was the last I saw of HV! Think it was similar to what fizz and gsy experienced. Nothing very exciting tbh!

MrsWajs · 11/08/2012 01:10

Sorry that should be now and not know! On nightshift!

MrsWajs · 11/08/2012 01:12

Bloody hell 10 mo check wasn't in October either it was February Confused

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 11/08/2012 04:39

Thanks folks, nice to know it's not just us (both counts).

Look at the time though. And I've already been up an hour. He's doing the same thing as at bedtime now.

This is ridiculous.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/08/2012 13:24

{{UBW}} sounds awful.

I would just keep plugging away and do what you always do wrt bedtime routine. Could it be teeth? They can be so disruptive.

Hope you had a fab birthday Kitty and Fizz Smile

We're off to the IL's soon. She is having the whole family over and cooking a roast - in this heat

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/08/2012 13:57

UBW we have a similar issue with T. DH and I are often eating at 9.30-10pm, and then he is up for the day at 5.30.
He has been asleep by 8.30pm for the last 2 nights and then actually slept pretty well, we had a 6.30 start this morning. This is unusual Grin

We find that moving his daytime nap earlier helps, giving him 'supper' can help, and he has a cup of water before he has his bedtime BF in this warm weather because thirst definitely keeps him awake and makes him wake early in the morning.
I do think that it can be better to aim for a slightly later bedtime and them settle quicker, than try to get them down too early and then be wrestling to get them to sleep for 2-3 hours.

DS1 definitely went through this, and it does get better.

Happy Birthday Kitty and Fizz!

TeamGlaikitBritain · 11/08/2012 20:42

Teeth maybe ubw? Although b is a bit antsy just now because of the horrendous nappy rash he's got. It's bleeding and everything :(. He screams when we got near the changing mat.

Could be the heat too. I've put a fan inBs room just to circulate the air.

The cows in the back field are waking b up at ridiculous o'clock just now too.

Kittycatcat · 11/08/2012 20:50

fizz try metanium for the nappy rash. We got it for s when he was bad with his teeth and its a miracle worker. Be careful it stains, and you only need a thin amount.

Starshaped · 11/08/2012 21:28

Poor B. That sounds so sore - it must make nappy changes really stressful Sad

Hope you managed to get F back down UBW. That hour of the morning is crazy o clock.

P has been a pretty reliable settler for a while now but we too have had a few difficult settles of late, particularly at nap time. She sleeps through unless she's poorly or teething but her waking up time is so random. We had weeks of really early starts (5-5.30...urgh), then she pushed back to 6.30 on her own. We even had a week of lie ins (well after 7am - 'twas bliss Grin). However she's working her way earlier again now and was up before 6am again this morning. It's frustrating because there does't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it Confused

Our development check was at 8 months and was equally crap. I can't remember what it entailed but remember it involved doing something with a block. HV asked me a couple of questions, looked disinterested in my responses and then sent us on our merry way with a Tommy Tipee cup. I have't been back since Blush

MrsWajs · 12/08/2012 00:07

Oh dear UBW that sounds horrendous :( Good advice from everyone already though.

Wonder if the sleeping thing is cyclic, R has done similar to P recently star we had a stretch of really long lies a few weeks back after a terrible time of early, early starts and now she's gradually working it back to an earlier wake up time again :( I was quite getting used to lying in bed til 8.30/9am!! No use for nursery days though!

Poor B and his nappy rash, he isn't having much luck with his skin just now is he, Fizz. R screams everytime we go near the changing nap too and she has never had nappy rash in her life, she just doesn't like having her bum changed!! Stroppy mare.

MrsWajs · 12/08/2012 00:08

mat not nap!

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 12/08/2012 03:09

Could be teeth, I suppose.

He has this habit of waking up minutes after I've gone to bed. So I was last up with him just after 1, now it's 3. It's a good job it's the holidays.

Oddly, the thunder earlier didn't bother him.

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 12/08/2012 03:12

Oh, MrsW, nappy changes here have become like trying to change an octopus with 1 hand (the other being used to pin down said octopus etc...)

It's a good job he's so endearing the rest of the time.

Kittycatcat · 12/08/2012 07:06

S isn't sleeping well either. Waking regularly moaning but going back to sleep to his music thankfully. Pretty sure it's teeth related as he moans when eating and brushing his teeth. He's also a nightmare when it comes to getting dressed or changing his nappy. Rolls over and stands up. Mission impossible.

TeamGlaikitBritain · 12/08/2012 11:41

I have perfected the standing up nappy change!! This can only be done with no bottom half clothing, so dungarees are out! Also no pooey nappies can be done this way.

Method

  1. Put something interesting on tv. I find Jake and the Neverland pirates or jungle junction work well here!
  2. Undress bottom half whilst standing, unpopping vest and refastening on popper above th hip to one side.
  3. Making sure clean nappy, wipes and cream are at hand, slowly remove nappy from child. Making sure that there are no surprises lurking within.
  4. Wipe area and add cream (optional)
  5. Take clean nappy and unfold, sticking one side closed. Feed appropriate leg through the fastened side. This keeps nappy in place if child suddenly becomes an octopus
  6. Quickly tighten the unstuck side and restick the stuck side to the correct tightness.
  7. Redress bottom half.
TeamGlaikitBritain · 12/08/2012 15:30

Oh god I'm going to call b Calamity from now on. He's just got his little chubby leg stuck between the bars of his cot.above the knee! I really thought we were going to have to cut him out :( add another grazed knee yesterday people are going to think we are bad using him :(

AprilMeadow · 13/08/2012 18:16

Hi Ladies,

Dropped off the Threads Im on so have missed a few weeks of chat :)

Kitty, not long now, I do not envy you being pregnant in the hot weather, although thats pretty much gone now so I guess you gave a sigh of relief.

Finn is finally walking!! 16 months - hurrah! Its been about 12 days now and he seems to have taken to it really well.

Still no teeth, but did take him to the dentist as I was paranoid there werent any. Thankfully she could see them in the gums, so looks like they are just taking their time.

We have an appointment with the dietician on the 28th to make sure that he is getting all the nutricional elements given the many things he is allergic to. Then we have another consultant appt in October where hopefully they will do blood tests again to see if his levels have changed. I will be asking fot them to see if he is allergic to egg whites or yolks or both and also to see if he is allergic to goats milk. If he could have goats milk then at least he could have yogurts and cheese.

I have added a picture of my brood for any one that's interested.

Those of you planning to have #4, its honestly not that bad. Mine are 7, 5, almost 3 & 16.5mths. The older three on the most part play nicely together. they were all of the age where they could fetch things for me when Finn was born. Even Lucy only being 18mths was ok. So i say GO FOR IT!! The time from March 2011 to now has passed so quickly, we cant believe that we have said goodbye to the baby stage once and for all.

We have a few words from F and some noises that sound like words. Funnily he has learnt Jack, Ella & Lucy..... not that we say their names much Wink

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2012 09:13

Your brood look adorable April Smile, and hurrah for a walking F! My friends two children didn't get their first teeth until they were 18mo, so I guess it isn't that unusual.

have you recovered from the leg stuck in cot incident Fizz? if you are worried about it again how about using a grobag? Also have you thought about using pull up nappies? Much easier for a stand up change.

Rain here again today - boo. However I will not let it dampen my spirits. Dh and I are taking ds2 to see Ice Age 4 this afternoon. I'm not sure who is looking forward to it most Grin

Kittycatcat · 14/08/2012 09:35

Ooooo pull ups. Might try that

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/08/2012 10:23

Make sure you get a good fit Kitty. They aren't so effective at containing poo's (IMO) as side tab nappies, especially if your dc still does soft/runny poo's.

Kittycatcat · 14/08/2012 12:36

Oh he does yes....
Kitten will be making his grand entrance (exit) on Monday 17th sept. I have to be in at 7 am and they start deliveries from 9am. If I go into labour before then I call up, come in and they perform the elective.

ecuse · 14/08/2012 13:23

Aaah, April, your brood are lovely! I have been really enjoying seeing pics of all your babies toddlers on FB. Can't believe how grown up they all look.

I have just been invited to my first parents evening. The CM wishes us to come round to view Joanna's 'portfoli of work' and discuss our mutual thoughts on her progress. Now I feel like a real proper grown up parent Grin

Kitty - squee!!!

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 14/08/2012 20:50

Had some shocking news yesterday. My 34 year old cousin was found dead by someone walking their dog along the coast at 6.30am. They have released her name in the local press this afternoon and are describing it as a tragic accident. I just can't quite believe it.

chillikat · 14/08/2012 20:54

Blimey, Gsy, that's awful. Hope you're ok. Hugs.
