Receiving you loud and clear jiggle....

the vitamin D thing is a bit of a trendy topic. The thing is, "deficiency" means "below what it should be". An awful lot of people this far North don't get much sun because iof our location and weather, but it's hard to tell exactly what the level should be: more to the point most people with "mild deficiency" won't have any consequences at all. Some people with more severe deficiency witll have problems/symptoms. The point is that the definition of "normal" is wooly and "deficiency" doesnt necessarily link to an adverse outcome. But a few people will have a terrible time if their deficiency isn't corrected and there's no way to predict who needs treating and who doesn't . So the catch-all is to treat everyone in the hope of preventing problems.

Personally as I'm BFing, I've bought some cheapie vit D tablets from boots and take them every few days, but am not getting obsessive. I'm not convinced that normal kiddies on normal diets need automatic vitamins but that's just me.

I'm always out and about, if there is sun it finds me dammit I absorb it:o Wink

Thanks for the kind words about my boy, hopefully we'll work his issues through:)

Darcie has a healthy varied diet and gets a lot of exercise outside when it's not lashing down with rain. However, you can't be 2 sure Smile

MissRee · 25/04/2012 21:50

To those of you with troublesome little ones, is it possible that they're bored in whatever they're doing? DP was a little shit massively disruptive at school (and I remember him being so Grin) because he was incredibly intelligent and not challenged enough. He then went on to do his GCSEs at 14 and A-levels at 15.

LittleMissFlustered · 25/04/2012 22:07

Hopefully if they can do a little investigating between school and the health staff we might find that out. Unfortunately at 4 there's not a great deal can be done extra-curricular wise:/ Hopefully we can work out if he's bored, upset, has issues or is just being a sod then work from there to a solution. Two and a half years is a long time to be dealing with stroppiness, though to a certain extent it's become a normal part of our lives and it's only when it's highlighted like today that I stop and think how much it affects our daily life:/

Kids! Who'd have 'em?Wink

Can he do basic numbers and letter recognition? If so, you can buy pre-school learning books. We had some for DSS and he enjoyed getting the gold stars for what he'd done Grin His school are pretty good as he's also highly intelligent and they've segregated him and a couple of other children for more difficult maths and reading.

Unfortunately the trouble we have now is that his mum can't read or write very well and he's already more advanced than her. It's sad that he brings books to our house now "because Mummy can't read it" Sad

MissRee · 25/04/2012 22:42

Just found a pic of me in my party frock on NYE (due date) looking like a whale Grin

hawthers · 25/04/2012 23:07

Haddock for DH please. I'm trying to encourage DS1 to start potty training and getting virtually no back up from DH. Tonight he suggested forcing DS1 to sit on the potty and when I incredulously asked him if he was serious, he got I a huff and went to sleep.

Although he has suggested that he give DS2 the 3am feed on friday night si I can get some much needed sleep - the joy of mixed feeding....

MimsyBorogroves · 26/04/2012 01:49

Right, I'm going to mark here. DS2 was born mid December and is, I hope, going through the fucking 4 month regression. 1am seems to be his time of "choice", and from here on in it is likely that he will rouse me ever hour/90mins through the night.

I'm bf, he's never slept through, but the last week has got worse and worse. I went against everything I wanted to do and gave him some porridge this evening. It's had no effect as he still woke at half ten and 1am (so far) - so I have no idea what to do next.

I had terrible pnd with DS1 (intrusive thoughts, hallucinations etc). I've had nothing similar so far with DS2, but on a night I'm starting to feel desperate Sad

He is almost rolling back to front (if only someone would move his shoulder), weight bears on his legs for AGES and has great strength in his back. He's lovely. I just wish he would sleep.

Oh, and I think he is teething. He's constantly chomping on fingers/dummy/cats tail.

LittleMissFlustered · 26/04/2012 03:37

Welcome!

Most of us on here are still doing some level of night wake, it's normal and don't let any sodding bastard arse tell you it's not the knobrashes >_<

Mind you, the octopus went four hours again. I think he's successfully trying to mess with my head:o

aethelfleda · 26/04/2012 04:39

Hi mimsy

Yep, there's lots of us still up at nights- a lot of the girls don't post in the wee hours but some of us with habits smartphones do for solidarity.

Yay octoboy! We got another 4 hour break too; it's somethimg in the water...

hawthers · 26/04/2012 04:43

F chops just managed 5 hours thank bob!

Hi mimsy welcome and sorry to hear about your pnd with DS1 and lack of sleep with DS2. There us usually loads at least one of us on the night shift so you're in good company.

MimsyBorogroves · 26/04/2012 05:48

I don't know what I'd do with4 hours sleep. Between DS2 and the months of pregnancy wees it must be a year since I've had that long.

He woke at 3, and again just now. I've been awake since 5 as my dainty lightfooted DH woke me up with his soft footsteps as he got ready for work. Can't wait til he's back working at home so I can foist the baby on him so that he can have a lie in.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 26/04/2012 06:48

Welcome Mimsy

Haddocks for your DH Hawthers

Sky woke at 1:30 this morning and has been dream feeding since about 5:50. Feel so tired Sad

Housework day for me - been little bit slattern over the week and it's not good!

mopsytop · 26/04/2012 08:28

Hi all, sorry for me post but minimopsy was a lot last night, is now coughing up green mucus and is v upset. No temp though. Should I bring her to GP?

mopsytop · 26/04/2012 08:29

Sorry I meant was coughing a lot during the night. She's been coughing since the weekend and was only spitting up clear mucus before but now it's green and she is crying her poor little head off.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 26/04/2012 08:35

Mopsy Take MiniM to GP to get checked out - sure she's fine but I wouldn't be happy with green mucus

GeeandTee · 26/04/2012 08:49

I was up every hour last night :( will try and post after sufficient caffeine has been consumed. Hello mimsy

Figgygal · 26/04/2012 09:23

Poor ladies with non sleeping babies figgyboy went from 8.30-5.45 then 6.15-8.15 even I was shocked. If sleep regression comes knocking here I think it will likely kill me.

Today is his last set of jabs am supposed to be meeting work peeps for dinner tonight think that may be a bad idea so waiting to see how he reacts.

Hope you all get a catch up nap today Grin

OiMissus · 26/04/2012 09:31

welcome mimsy, I too have a regressive sleeper. After only 2 wake ups the previous night, he was grizzly all last night. Actually he slept fine during the sodding evening - from 7 to 11, but from 1am he just coughed, spluttered and needed cuddles or feeding constantly.
I got in the shower at 5:50am, and then he slept soundly for an hour whilst I got ready and packed up the car. He slept soundly as I put him in the car seat, he slept all the way to mum's, and he barely acknowledged the barking doggiz and cooing grandma on arrival.
I am at work. I look like death.
If you can , take heart that we are all in it together. and no, the introduction of baby rice didn't affect sleep chez nous either.
The nurse said that his chest was clear. Well he didn't sound so very clear last night - although it was mainly his nose and throat rather than his chest.
mopsy I usually think that when the green stuff arrives, it shows that the body is actively fighting the infection. Minimopsy will be on the mend. However, is she's upset and suffering a little, I'd probably look for things to ease it. If you think a GP visit is wise, to help her, or to put your mind at rest, do it. And /or use calpol, salty snot spray, and Karvol decongestant drops (strong smelling stuff you drip on a hanky out of reach). Hope she's feeling better soon.

OiMissus · 26/04/2012 09:32

Figgy, BOi hardly noticed his last set of jabs, so I hope Figgyboy has a similar experience and your dinner tonight isn't affected. Good luck!

Kitty5824 · 26/04/2012 09:36

Morning all, welcome to Mimsy

DH came home last night, was lookin forward to some support but he got in at 7.30, gave Seb his one ff at about 8.30. Seb fell asleep on him. Did he go and put him in the cot then come and help me with some chores? Did he chuff! My boys sat in front of the telly whilst I washed up, did some ironing, changed the sheets on the cot, unpacked another box of crap our stuff, sorted the laundry, planned the meals for the next few days, fed the cats etc etc etc

I physically went and picked Seb up of his Daddy's lap at 10.45 and put him to bed. He has then been up every hour/90 mins for a feed since 1am. Bleugh!!

I love BF, but sometime just want to scream!!!!! Today is also DH's first day in his new office, so didn't want to rant too much at him, but he might well get both barrels tonight Grin Tonight I think I will BF until 8is then just disappear off to bed and leave him to deal until midnight. That could meana 4 whole hours sleep. Except I won't be able to sleep then, will I????

Plans for today peeps?

Kitty5824 · 26/04/2012 09:41

Sorry about the long post. Feel better now!

Should point out that I did catch DH staring adoringly at DS when he thought I was in the other room. That's really why he didn't get ranted at last night Wink

LittleMissFlustered · 26/04/2012 10:33

Plans:

Operation 'where the bob is the living room floor?' was completed relatively painlessly:)

Asthma coordinator popped in to listen to the tentacled one's chest and advise on treatment plan.

Later I need to buy some food, as we're down to pasta, rice, beans and tomatoes and there's only so many meals they make before you want something meaty >_<

Have to do school things, and ring council and health visitor.

Might try squeezing a nice bath in at some point too:o

Aaaargh when will my hair stop falling out?!?! It's getting worse not better Sad I'm so fed up of picking hair out of freya's hands and mouth, or hoovering the floor every time I brush my hair.

I might shave my head to make it stop!

Hi Mimsy welcome to the mad house Grin
