oi once you've frozen the cubes you can just pop them into a freezer bag and then use the ice cube tray for a different puree. Also easier to fit in the freezer that way! I still do this to make DS some small portions of gravy so I don't have to make it fresh every time (he LOVES gravy!)

Such grey days at the moment. Even though I took the car to soft play this morning I still got soaked getting the DCs in and out of the car and buying parking ticket etc. Think I would have been dryer just putting them in the pushchair with the raincover on and taking an umbrella!

All this rain is making me eat more chocolate than usual :)

By the way, lmf when I went to Boots this mornng the pharmacist told me not to take ibuprofen as it can go into your milk and potentially cause problems (some disease beginning with an R that I can't remember). Is that right?

LittleMissFlustered · 25/04/2012 14:48

Ive never been advised against it, but that's not to say advice hasn't changed. I know ibuprofen works its way out of milk quicker than paracetamol. I also know that if I've a belting headache brewing I have to take both or I'm going to end up on the floor for the day >_

aethelfleda · 25/04/2012 15:38

gee and lmf, the pharmacist is probably thinking of Reyes' Syndrome, an 'orrible brain disease that is incurable and used to severely brain damage and kill the occasional child. It is NOT linked to Ibuprofen, it is linked to Aspirin. A bright spark found this link in the eighties, and all the Junior Disprin (remember the chewy orange tablets?) were rapidly recalled and banned, and they started flogging kiddy ibuprofen instead.

(I will double check the internet in case someone has just published something in the last week or two, but it's no aspirin til you're 18 nowadays).

mopsytop · 25/04/2012 16:12

Awful weather here too. Hideous. Lashing. But has meant a lovely lazy day, sitting on sofa, drinking tea, reading, playing scrabble and, of course, playing with minimopsy. Also had a hair cut this morning. And out for dinner later while my parents babysit-yay!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 25/04/2012 16:29

Weaning class went well made Sweet Potato & Broccoli purée. Also found out something that will become legislation shortly that all children will need to take vitamin supplements due to the increase of Ricketts. So will be getting some for Darcie at the weekend.

Sky tasted the purée and opened her mouth for more so all good Smile has laughed alot this afternoon too Grin

Darcie got Brownies at 6 so chill out evening for us.

Keep having the same dream too: it's our wedding day I walk down the aisle to DP and he takes one look - doesn't say anything and walks out Sad not good.

Rashkakeller · 25/04/2012 16:44

Not that I've ever given my kids aspirin but blimey, didn't realise it was a no no until you reach 18 - thanks for the heads up, Aethel!

Oi, so glad BOi is starting to take milk, must be a weight off your mind. And it's great you can make your paid work, work for you - my job is fairly flexible and it's been a bobsend in the past.

Gee, you know, I've never thought of popping out the frozen purée cubes to make more space OR of making gravy and freezing it so have been making fresh gravy for dd (bisto!) - wot a nana! I'm learning all sorts today!

Mopsy, sorry you're still finding it hard leaving minimopsy at nursery - you will find peace with it in time. We have ridiculous rain here too (apparently 72 hours worth in 24 hours, whatever that means) and apart from a trip to the photographers and Asda this morning, are tucked up inside with the heating whacked up! Enjoy your meal out tonight!

Itsy, feel free to rant, it's hard with two! Sleep deprivation makes it a hundred times harder too but it won't be like this forever. As others have said, make sure your other half pulls his weight too, he needs to help out with the children and round the house, you can't do everything even if he does work!

Forgot all the other posts....thinking...nope, gone!

Other than, Air, if you're alurking, hope you get the help and meds you need and all the best for the future. Will hopefully still be here if you come back xx

Went to Asda earlier to pick up some baby bargains but our store is tiny so they had hardly anything. Decided to go through Asda Direct and get it delivered to the store but most of what I want is out of stock! What a load of shit!

Tried ds in his cot earlier for a daytime nap - if I was being graded, I would have been awarded a D- . He screamed, a lot, I caved after 15 minutes, he is now sleeping on the hard lounge floor, weirdo.

Rashkakeller · 25/04/2012 16:47

DSM, generally dreams are not to be taken literally but mean something completely different.

Not sure what your dream means but probably related to recent stresses. You will have a wonderful wedding!!

MissRee · 25/04/2012 17:09

Yup shockingly bad weather here too! Me and Freya have stayed lovely snuggly warm indoors though Grin

I think such weathers deserves comfort food so I'm just cooking up a batch of chilli... Nomnom Grin

KateM77 · 25/04/2012 19:15

MissRee you're right. I've made a fish pie. Just doing big bedtime feed for DS and look forward to eating it after that. Hoping for a better night tonight than last night, but think that may be overly optimistic. Introduction of bottles is looming ever closer!

Shiny new phone arrived today. Just charging it now, will get it set up and then just need to get my number switched over from the old phone. Hooray!

NorthernChinchilla · 25/04/2012 19:52

It was a total crisis BJR- the bloody charger packed in, and so couldn't get on my laptop! DP was today despatched to get another one. £50!!

But at least I can now access MN and you lot at my leisure Smile

And I'd definitely head to the Doctor's- it may be an odd co-incidence but I'd have him checked.

Impressed you're fitting in two feeds Oi (I saw how much you'd expressed, and felt totally inadequate, and then realised it was two feeds and felt better Blush!). You do feel very odd doing it, but at least it's working so far. I'm using a hand pump so it's pretty quiet, I don't think I could cope with the noises!

And thanks aethel; I feel really happy that it's working OK, and as I know it's time limited it doesn't feel like a bind at all.

Hope you feel better for ranting itsy, but that does sound tough. It is bloody relentless, and so much tougher when it's two.

We had appalling weather here today. Walking to the station, then to the bus stop, then into work (had a meeting up at HQ) meant that my feet were soaking through my Doc Marten boots and my socks. Had wet feet all day and an inside out umbrella!

Am going to see if I fall asleep on the sofa again tonight; don't want to be over-doing it. Feel fine at work, but passed out....hah, the only other time I've done that was when I was pregnant, just realised!! It was my first symptom, pre test- don't think it's the case though, just knackered Grin.

MissRee · 25/04/2012 20:02

How's DP getting on Northern?

aethelfleda · 25/04/2012 20:05

Feed feed feed feed... Oh yes, DS is 16 weeks. This'll be the four-month growth spurt then. lmf and misree, brace yourselves!!

Comfort pizza at this end. Nom. I hereby declare comfort food to be calorie-free.

MissRee · 25/04/2012 20:20

F is 15 weeks on Thursday so should I expect her to turn into devil child next week then?

Woohoo that caramel egg I just ate is calorie free Grin

OiMissus · 25/04/2012 20:22

Ha! You've reminded me that my first pg symptom was tiredness -falling asleep on the sofa at 8pm. northern I expressed at 11 and again at 3. I fear leakage!
geeandtee I feel rather stoopid! Of course it makes sense to dispense into bags! I shouldn't have bought freezer things at all. I was worried about the ice cube trays not having real seals. But my trays slide under a shelf (new fancy 'Merican fridge freezer), so o could just freeze em and pop em into bags. Doh! Don't waste your pennies ladies!
A new haircut mopsy? will this require a name change?Wink
dsm how did your weaning lady explain how the powers that be are going to legislate vitamin intake? I have visions of child-catcher-like government nannies doing daily house visits to administer drugs!
Our weaning talk lady also tried to push these drugs, sorry, vitamin pills, to us. We all looked at her like this: Hmm and confirmed that we hoped our LO's would get the necessary vits from the food we would give them.
MissRee and Kate I hope your dinners were suitably spicy and warming. I made a "throw whatever's in the fridge" risotto, and I do believe it was my finest yet. Nom nom nom!
Btw BOi is absolutely fine. His chest did not rattle at the drs, she said he sounded perfectly clear. So all is good.
I'm so relieved that he's now accepting the bottle. It will make working so much easier. Oh and exciting projects ahead there too, had my chat with the CEO today and it went really well. I've got to get creative and create a "presentation booth" of sorts, incorporating video/graphics/whatever, but of a special nature. This is not your usual trade show. This time I'll be marketing the company to private equity investors. Exciting times. I need to look into the latest technologies and blow some socks off. Grin

MissRee · 25/04/2012 20:27

Yay for non-rattly BOi who also now takes a bottle Grin

Freya will be spending her first night in the big girl cot tonight. She was starting to look a little ridiculous in the Moses basket Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 25/04/2012 20:29

aethel I'm reading this while the octopus has his second course. He is entirely down with the programme >_<

Have decided that I need to get my older boy some help. He's got temper/anger/attention/frustration/absorption issues and they're getting worse. He had to be taken out of class twice today to calm down. He's four and a half:( feeling like a pretty shocking mother, especially when the teacher manages to patronise me albeit unintentionally:( Hope it's just a case of stroppy boy needing coping mechanisms.

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 25/04/2012 20:32

DP is getting on really well thanks MissRee! I knew he would as he had my manual and I'd done all the hard work in the early months and also established a routine of sorts he's far more of a homebody than I am. I am quite prepared for him to say that he's not going back to work in September.

He's even started doing housework unbidden Shock - for example, I had a text today that he's stripped the chicken ready for the curry, amongst other things. He has never done this before, as it's been a Northern Chinchilla cooking job, and I hadn't even mentioned it!

I could get used to this Grin

He has also worked out that the key is to do a 'task' each day. He's also now understanding why I used to foam at the mouth whenever people rang as I was putting DS down!

I was the same Oi - period was due on the Thursday, on the Friday I fell asleep on the sofa at 9, and I just knew. Of course, I've not had a period since forever, so although it's technically possible I doubt it!

MissRee · 25/04/2012 20:34

Oh and she has a new trick. If I pull her up to sitting by her arms, she automatically puts her feet down and stands up. I have no idea whether this is normal but she looks very pleased with herself each time!!!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 25/04/2012 20:42

Oi Re legislation it will be done via GP's & Health Visitors. I gave them to Darcie upto age of 5 so will go and buy fresh lot for her at weekend and then have some for Sky when she's old enough. it's mainly because our bodies don't make Vit D and in hardly any food sources - mainly comes from sunshine which lets be honest we have none Grin

Darcie enjoyed Brownies Smile she's fast asleep now. Sky is just having her bottle and hopefully will sleep well tonight.

LMF Ask your GP for a CAMH's referral they can then help your DS with coping strategies, like we have with Darcie and it's def helped us this week Smile

MissRee · 25/04/2012 20:52

Sadly, I think the vit D deficiency stems mainly from the fact that kids spend more time indoors watching telly/playing 'puter games than they do playing outside nowadays. Doubled with the ridiculously high sunscreen we slather on our children, it's no wonder rickets is on the increase!

LittleMissFlustered · 25/04/2012 20:55

They can't force vitamin consumption! They can promote and encourage but nothing more. Although we don't get a lot of sunny weather, as long as you're outdoors in natural light you're absorbing vitamin D. I believe geeky nocturnal gamer types vampires people with darkly pigmented skin are most at risk of deficiency as the absorption is hindered by the pigmentation and are thus advised to take a supplement.

As for my four year old, I've been told the best route is through school and the nurse. Perhaps due to being in a different area? He's been getting steadily worse for two years now so he needs some help:(

jigglebum · 25/04/2012 21:02

Right - sick of being logged out by MN by the time I read through and then right a message! So will post this to check before writing more.

jigglebum · 25/04/2012 21:03

ehh write not right obviously!

OiMissus · 25/04/2012 21:13

Lmf good luck with DS. Poor you. I hope whatever help you get is truly positive, and not condescending and judgemental.
dsm it's good to hear that the help you received is paying off. Hopefully Darcie will continue to improve and thrive, and you'll all be happier, and less stressed, and so have less stressed dreams! I'm sure your wedding will be wonderful.

jigglebum · 25/04/2012 21:13

Hard work day here today - pissing down with rain, yet again - how can there be a hosepipe ban anywhere! Freya cried loads today for her and I am so glad she doesn't usually as I am crap at dealing with it. Tried gripe water, tried teething granules and eventually after 3 hours tried calpol and seemed to work - not sure what is going on. DS actually behaving pretty well but had to get to swimming and the gym, getting soaked each time.

DH and I still not getting on - practically not spoken since the weekend. Tonight he decided to challenge my parenting in front of DS - saying he didn't need a bath and they would stay and play as he was bored of giving him a bath every night. It is the only thing he does! He may have a point but did not need to bring DS in on the discussion - he is 3! Ahhh - I am bored of many aspects of parenting but experience tells me routine works and I can't decide not to do it just as I am bored. I agreed to compromised on 2 nights no bath a week.

Glad work is going well oi . how are others getting on? Today I would have gratefully have gone to work for the day!

Re Vit D - I give DS vit supplements when I remember. I was quite anti supplements but the dentist pushed it as he apparently had a calcium deficiency as it is only converted with vit D and when I researched it there was a lot of evidence regarding lack of vit D in northern European countries and latest advice to GPs is to encourage it. FF babies get it in their formula.
