Oh and random question: does anyone have a toddler CD player/ recorder type thing? I want to get DD one (if she gets enough stickers on reward chart or for some big occasion or something..) - she's got one of those toddler cameras and absolutely loves the record yourself function it has. So I was thinking of something with a little microphone but also would be good if it played music. I saw something in John Lewis that looked ok but although you can sing along I don't think it records

Thanks for the anniversary love. It was actually quite fun actually remembering the day yesterday and celebrating, though we only got takeaway but it felt a bit like our birthday the whole day, but nicer because unlike birthdays, the bigger the number the more reason to celebrate. Enjoyed looking through our wedding photos, as although I am no where near as skinny, I def have bigger boobs. We are having our anniversary date tonight.

Sorry about your FIL Sybs, what a shock, hard to comprehend them suddenly not being there. How is the in laws now? How are the LOs with it?

Kiwi, I also had training group today, we did a short run, then proceeded to Sprint 10 times up the steepest hill in the Hague. Ouch. Evil. We all try really hard though as the girl who takes it is pregnant and we feel we have to work as hard if not harder than she does. Man my butt hurts though. I had a killer session with the PT yesterday and this today. If I don't have buns of steele soon I'm retiring, or getting surgery to implant actual steele into my butt.

Seriously, Trace, where are you?

VagolaJahooli · 21/04/2012 16:43

Oh and kiwi, I think ELC have good tape player type thingies

We watch 'we bought a zoo' last night. Nice lovely, feel good movie. If you want an easy movie to watch its a good one.

KiwiPanda · 21/04/2012 19:06

Oh thanks Vag will have a look (before they go bust Sad)

I loathe hill sprints. I did some over Easter with DH though it would be more accurate to say he did hill sprints and I did going uphill rather slowly.. I cannot sprint downhill let alone uphill.. Am doing a long run tomorrow though. Well obviously not Long compared to marathon or the nutter at running club this morning training for an 87 mile run, but long for me (7/8 miles I hope)

Are ELC going bust? Sad

Marathon day tomorrow Grin please pray for the elusive sub 4. Otherwise he is going to keep doing them until he gets it. Oh and yes no rain please.

Happy weekends all.

ZuleikaJambiere · 22/04/2012 06:11

Good luck Mr Jam, run your socks off today

DD1 is also cutting and sticking obsessed, and she loves to finish off her creations with some artful parcel tape. And like your's, Kiwi, her attention span is short - we managed the first half of Mary Poppins at Easter, which was good going for her. I can't imagine taking her to the cinema

How are you all doing Sybs?

McKayz · 22/04/2012 07:48

Good Luck Mr Jam!! Hope it stays nice and dry.

Mothercare aren't doing very well and are having to close some stores it said on the news the other day. They bought ELC a few years ago didn't they?

KiwiPanda · 22/04/2012 07:53

Yes they've closed the one near where we used to live (and if they can't sustain a store in terribly affluent and middle class sw15 there's no hope for them).

Good luck Mr Jam! One of my best friends from NCT will be cheering on her other half and preying he goes sub 3 hours or he'll be doing it again next year for the 5th year...

JamInMyWellies · 22/04/2012 18:13

3hrs 52 mins! Hurrah he can stop doing marathons now he has his sub 4 hrs. Grin Massively proud of him what an achievement.

Beans36 · 22/04/2012 18:59

HURRAH TO MR JAM!!! Well done him xxx

AubergineKenobi · 22/04/2012 20:31

Evening Ladies

Great news about the sub-4 hour marathon Jam. Will he really stop now? Or will he just replace marathons with Iron Men???

Sorry to hear about your FiL Sybs. I hope your DH is coping OK. Thinking of you.

Belated Happy anniversary to Vegola.

And very belated Happy Birthday to LadyT.

Kiwi, DD2 also lacks the attention span for a whole movie. She did manage to sit through Nanny McPhee once but I think she was keeping up appearances as she was surrounded my her big sister and other 5 year olds and wanted to look sophisticated... I cannot wait until she can be amused for long periods by the telly.

On that subject, how is the new TV Dieds? Is it like being at the cinema? Ours is tiny. Maybe 18 inches or something like that. Most of the time I am perfectly happy with it but sometimes I crave one of those projectors with a pull down screen hidden in the ceiling. My friend has one and I am a tad jealous.

I am ovulating. I know this because I am in AGONY. I can't stand up straight. This happens every other month at the moment - whenever I ovulate on the left side. Has anyone else developed painful ovulation since having children? I am wondering whether it is something to get checked out or just something that one has to live with.

VagolaJahooli · 22/04/2012 20:37

Yay to Mr Jam, and has he finished up with them then?

Ds1 had a violin recital thing today, was so proud of him, he did so well. Best of all he loved it. Dh and I aren't sure whether it's because he is our son, but he was definitely the best.

Beans36 · 22/04/2012 20:39

Hey Aubs, I don't get that, but I now have (TMI WARNING) nuclear discharge for about 5 days after my period. It's rank and puts me out of shagging game for nearly 2 weeks. I don't mind so much, but DH distraught!!! It's grim though.

Poor you. I do get horrible period pains, though. Hope you're ok. Are you going to go for it this cycle???

Be warned, Jam, DH promised to give up after sub-3.5 hrs. Got 3hrs 28mins last year. Off to Geneva for marathon in 2 weeks! But ensure he does them abroad and use them as a holiday from the kids. Heh heh!!

AubergineKenobi · 22/04/2012 20:45

Ahhhhh Veg, I bet he was the best, good on him. How old was he when he started violin? I would like DD1 to learn violin but had thought she was too young.

Beans - no we are not trying this month (which is lucky as I cannot even sit up with this pain - not that sitting up would be strictly necessary I suppose). We won't start trying before August. I have had horrible morning sickness with my two pregnancies so far and we are booked to be in California for three weeks in late July/August, I do not want that holiday ruined by nausea so we will definitely wait.

VagolaJahooli · 22/04/2012 22:42

Aubs he started when he had just turned 5, though he had been asking to play violin since he was almost 3, I think he was even closer to 2.5, he was always quite obsessed with it. He used to play his ukele under his chin and used a chopstick for a bow. The lovely teacher he has actually does little kids group lessons but for the little ones she mainly concentrates on rhythm, and they use a pretend violin for a while until they show they are interested and can look after the violin. I think this would have been nice for ds1 to do but I don't think it has hurt him to start later at 5 as it gave him a chance to really want to play so he was sure he wanted to do it.

Ds2 has been to some of the sessions and also comes along to ds1's group and private lessons, but he waxes and wanes with his interest, at the moment he is quite against it. Also, he found the little kids lessons a bit annoying, as did I. There was a little girl who was lovely, but a boy who was just a little monster. Both his parents would come to the session and his dad is quite tall and they just took up the whole room. The little boy just was so naughty and as he was older DS2 & the little girl would be good but as they saw that the other little boy didn't get in much trouble (his parents where very much of the "Sacha, that's socially unacceptable" & "Sacha, we don't throw our violin's on the ground and stamp on it" style of parenting). The teacher is really lovely and endlessly patient but you could see her desperately fighting an almost uncontrolably urge to shake the parents senseless. She also is a bit sad that we stopped going as she knows the little boy is part of the reason ds2 has gone against the violin. I think she gets a lot of people who think their child is some sort of prodigy and will obviously be amazing at everything including violin (unlike us who KNOW our child are destined to greatness).

KiwiPanda · 23/04/2012 07:06

Aubs my sister once got ovulation pain so bad she thought it was appendicitis. They took out her appendix.. Then did a biopsy, discovered it was fine and she got the pain again..!

Veg I started violin and piano lessons at 5. Not that I'm much of an advert as my viola (I switched aged about 8) only has one string and I haven't played the piano or my keyboard except for christmas carols for years.

Hooray for Mr Jam marathoning! Hope you get him back now. My friends DH did 3 hrs 3 minutes so is clearly going to keep striving for the elusive sub 3 hours..

I did 8 miles and am now thinking of entering half marathon in October. Crazy idea? Will be just when I go back to work/DD2 starts at nursery though don't think that will affect anything much, running wise!

Happy bloody birthday to me!!
Ds2 has got up covered in spots. I don't know what chicken pox really looks like but that's what we are thinking it is. So looks like meal etc will have to be canceled. Sad

Indith · 23/04/2012 09:59

Oh no Kayz!

Have you rung your MW? Even if you have had it before they may still want to check you for immunity.

McKayz · 23/04/2012 10:03

No I haven't. We took him to see the nurse earlier and she said as I have had it there is no need to tell MW.

Should I ring anyway?

Indith · 23/04/2012 10:06

Well done MrJam!

A friend of mine's ds started vioin at 3. Musical family though, friend's dad is a folk musician.

I want to give ds the chance to try something. Why is everything so expensive? I wish I could give him the chance to try things and then follow a natural interest. He has enjoyed gymnastics and judo at school but at £40/£50 for a term we can't exactly do everything. Ah well. He will start Beavers in the Autumn which will give him plenty of chances to try things :)

Sympathies on the ovulation pain, discharge and anything else our bodies throw at us. Women really are badly built. My periods have been completely different after each child, wonder what I'll get this time.

Indith · 23/04/2012 10:07

Won't do any harm to ring will it, the nurse is not a MW and you certainly won't be wasting anyone's time.

McKayz · 23/04/2012 10:08

She's well known here for being pretty useless so I will ring.

KiwiPanda · 23/04/2012 11:02

Kayz am pretty sure if you have had it then you'll be fine, because you'll have antibodies. And don't listen to anyone who says you can catch shingles from a child with chicken pox, it is NOT true. Shingles is a reactivation of the virus (which we all still have once we've had the pox) - usually caused by weak immune system. It has nothing do with exposure. I say this because older people sometimes worry about being around kids with pox. Unless they've never had it of course, in which case fair enough.

KiwiPanda · 23/04/2012 11:03

Ps though obviously do call MW if nothing else they should add it to your notes. Oh and happy birthday!! Sorry that should have come first

OP posts:
McKayz · 23/04/2012 11:11

MW says that I will be fine.

I feel so sorry for him as he is absolutely fine just spotty.
