That's good that he's fine, Kayz. Better than feeling crap as well as spotty!

DeidreBarlow · 23/04/2012 12:20

Happy Birthday kayz, hope you have a lovely day and DS1 isn't too uncomfortable with his spots.

Huge congrats to mrjam. I was watching the marathon in awe yesterday...amazing! So I went out and did about 2.5mileHmm. On the plus side its the first run since my knee injury that I could run the whole way and no pain whatsoever! Its amazing though how after just a few weeks of not running my fitness has diminished. Although a lady today at the toddler group I go to said that muscle has memory and I should be able to build up quicker than if I had never run (as long as I stay injury free of course!)...she does a lot of half marathons, so I assume she knows what she's talking about.

I'm starving, must eat.

Indith · 23/04/2012 13:01

Poor spotty boy.

My big 2 were really miserable when they had the pox, my friend's ds who they caught it off was fine so he was bouncing off the celing but they were unable to go out, mine just took up a sofa each and dozed while watching TV it was great Grin.

Glad you called Kayz, always best to check and then at least they have been informed, afterall it is possible to get it twice.

I am remembering how recently I gave birth today, ahd a busy weekend without my usual flopping and resting on the sofa and I can really feel it today. Dh going away for work tomorrow too at stupid o'clock in the morning. Just the one night thankfully.

VagolaJahooli · 23/04/2012 20:04

Kaayz I think if you've had pox the only thing to watch in pregnancy is when the LOs have it, compared to when you are due. Obviously right now is not a problem as you are way off birth so ds2 isn't going to be passing pox to the baby. But has ds1 had chicken pox? If he gets it now that would be good as no chance of having it when DD is due.

ZJ loved Mr ZJ and his asparagus, he is officially the pin up boy for vegetarians!!!! I luuuuurve asparagus.

McKayz · 23/04/2012 20:20

No he hasn't had it yet. What are the chances of him not getting it now? I thought they'd be pretty slim but not sure.

DeidreBarlow · 23/04/2012 20:24

DS has had the Pox but not DD.

My sis has 3 boys, 2 of them have had it but one has never caught it and he's 14 now! I think he is actually immune...is that at all possibleConfused

Indith · 23/04/2012 20:24

Hopefully they were exposed at the same time and he gets it in the next couple of days!

Anecdotally, I never had it when my sister did. Nor did I get it when the dcs did. Clearly I am superwoman. Watch me come down with it when ds2 does!

VagolaJahooli · 23/04/2012 20:25

He has a very high chance of getting cp. You only need to be with some who has CP for an hour to catch it. He will probably get the spots in a week to two weeks from now. When are you due?

VagolaJahooli · 23/04/2012 20:31

There are two theories when sybs don't catch CP, one is that some people just can't seem to sero convert the virus, the other is that they actually do get a very small dose of it, maybe one or two spots that aren't noticed because the other child(ren) are so spotty and unwell. If he wasn't exposed to the original child then he shoikd come out in spots in about a week.

McKayz · 23/04/2012 20:33

Due on 21st June. I'm really hoping he comes out in it ASAP so I can have both at home together.

JollyBear · 23/04/2012 20:35

Hello everyone,

Happy birthday kayz hope you still managed to celebrate.

Congrats to Mr jam on the marathon.

indith Hope you took it easy today. It is easy to overexert yourself and forget that your body goes through the mill during pregnancy and birth. Having 3 must be exhausting, all those people to feed, clean and clothe!

Who was talking about scissors? A big yes from DD1. There are bits of paper everywhere. She also likes masking tape to stick it all back together. Messy but it does keep her amused for quite a while.

ZJ How are you getting on? Any bedtime breakthroughs?

kiwi We haven't got a tape recorder thing but it sounds like something DD would love! Your poor sister having an operation when it was ovulation pain!!!

sybs How are things? Thinking of you.

vag What a shame for your DS1 and the violin lessons. Really very annoying about the other boy. Can you find a different teacher or have his lesson at a different time? I really want my DDs to have the opportunity to be able to play something and learn to read music. I was taught to read music but never had an instrument beyond the recorder. I wanted to play the flute so much that I started as an adult. It was easier because I could already read music, otherwise I it would have been too hard.

We're all good here. DD2 is doing lots of signs which is very sweet. Her cow sign is lifting her arms up and making a humming noise! DD1 is doing them with her and it is lovely to see them starting to play together a bit.

I'm shattered at the moment though. Had a blood test with GP and my iron levels are 8.9 so that'll be why! On some vile iron tablets now. I think it is my new look clockwork heavy periods to blame for that. You are right Indith about them being different with each birth!

KiwiPanda · 24/04/2012 06:13

Gosh everyone is still asleep and DD2 hasn't fed all night. This is obviously ace but here is a high chance that the loud noise you will hear shortly from SW London is my left boob exploding. Ow ow ow! Wake up now please baby!

sybilfaulty · 24/04/2012 07:13

Hello everyone. Thanks for all the kind words. We are bearing up here, though the funeral isn't til 9th May so we are going to be in limbo for a bit longer. DH is going back to work today (well, til he is redundant next week!) and I am off to see a friend with M. Feel rather sick and wobbly still but am sure that's just tiredness and stress.

Hope you are all well.

Beans36 · 24/04/2012 08:28

My two haven't had the pox yet. I'm so hoping they get it soon. Just want to get it over and done with. Apparently the older they are, the worse they are. Perhaps I should come and see you, Kayz!!!

xx

McKayz · 24/04/2012 08:37

Beans You are more than welcome Grin I am so pleased that DS2 is feeling fine rather than being ill with it. I am hoping DS1 gets it now, be nice to have it all done.

Sybs Thinking of you. xx

We're taking DS2 out for a drive today. The nurse said he was ok to go out if he stays in the car. So he's getting treated to a happy meal and to see the steam trains.

KiwiPanda · 24/04/2012 09:08

Kayz I didn't take mine to doctor but friend did and he told them it was fine to go out, that you don't have to stay cooped up. Obviously avoid crowded areas and sandpits and the like but no reason you couldn't take him for a walk. Though given the weather perhaps not!

Does anyone else get that hair-falling-out-after-baby thing? I just had a bath and swear half my hair is now floating in it Sad

OP posts:
VagolaJahooli · 24/04/2012 10:03

Yeah kiwi normally hair falls out daily, we just don't really notice cos it comes out on your hair brush or down the plughole, but for some reason while pregnant and possibly early BFing no hair falls out. The result luscious thick hair for 9+ months then bunged up drainage pipes and over worked vacuum cleaner. In my case children complaining about hair in their food. It does seem that 9 + months worth of hair suddenly falls out in one foul swoop. Don't worry your not going bald.

Kayz that was a bit mean of your nurse, you can go out just as JB said not to crowded places or anywhere which might exacerbate the itch. Your normal average child will be fine with a little exposure to your poor DS2 but it's more you have to consider kids or elderly with immunosuppression. But generally your not going to have him breathing near or rubbing up against anyone for an hour so will be fine. I must warn you expect tutting and glares, and people running away from you making the sign of the cross. DH was away when the boys got CP (a bloody week apart, well timed DH). So I had to take them with me for quick Sprints into sainsbos for milk etc or we would starve. From the looks I got from people you'd think I had introduced the black plague back to Derbyshire with my sickly children. I did get quite a few sympathetic nods from mums though.

JB DS1's violin sessions are fine as he is with the older kids, its the classes the lovely violin teacher runs for the littlies. It's over run by parents who want their kids to be the next Vanessa Mae. There was actually one mum who used to force the violin under her daughters chin and hold the child's other hand around the bow and practically play it herself. I did have a giggle. I just got a group email from the teacher thanking everyone who came to the concert on Sunday and for those children who were so well behaved to sit through the whole concert and listen to everyone. She also thanked those parents and kids who stayed back to help clean up the hall and chairs. She is very Suzuki music and believes very much in giving positive reinforcement. But I know by her words she was saying and you other lot with your spoilt, annoying, noisy rude kids, I know who you are, and I know you didn't help clean up either. Sadly I know the parents she is aiming it at, and I don't think it will get the message through.

KiwiPanda · 24/04/2012 10:20

Gah yes, I'd forgotten about it from DD1 Vag - I also get those wispy bits at the side, along the hairline. Such a good look Hmm

I want to go for a run today. You'd think, living as they do 1.5 miles away, it wouldn't be too much to ask my parents to come and look after DD2 (while she is ASLEEP) so I can run for 45 mins or so. But no. Honestly.

KiwiPanda · 24/04/2012 10:56

DH has suggested that we go away for a few days somewhere on his recent gambling winnings (yes, really). Can't decide where would be good - needs to be somewhere not to far obviously, somewhere on budget airline route, and that's good for kids. He wants to go back to Prague (where I hail from, sort of, and where we got married) but the flight times suck and I'm not convinced it'll be great for DD1. Probably not Germany either as we spend a lot of time there or have done, anyway. Suggestions please??

Beans36 · 24/04/2012 11:43

My wispy bits that grew post babies are completely white. YICK!

Greece, Kiwi? Or how about Rome?

VagolaJahooli · 24/04/2012 12:19

Beans I've got those grey wispy bits too.

Kiwi what about Sardinia, it's lovely this time of year (well any time of year)

JamInMyWellies · 24/04/2012 15:03

Holy cow just had a curtain bloke round to measure up and give me a price for the lounge and the fabric we want makes it $2836. Holy cow!!!!!! Back to the fabric shop on Saturday me thinks.

KiwiPanda · 24/04/2012 15:42

Jam Are you buying them from the US or was that a typo??

Beans Suggested Rome myself actually, mmmm best ice cream.... Sardinia I think we might struggle a bit, my main memory of a holiday there about 9 years ago was being permanently hungry and hardly finding any vegetarian food (which is odd because generally Italy is fine, with all the pasta and pizza.) Though we are also now rather boringly leaning towards a few days back in Berlin, despite having gone there about 3453454 times. It's just so good for kids AND adults.

DD has slept ALL day. Not that I am complaining, obviously, as it won't last and is probably linked to some growth spurt or something but wow. Up at 7am, slept 8.30-11.30, back to sleep at 1.45ish and still asleep now. Bizarre how you can have two girls SO utterly different from each other. At this age DD1 was still feeding every 2 hours at night and only EVER slept for 45 minutes in the day and then only if I pushed her around in teh pushchair.

Honey Sugar Ice Tea, how big are your loungeroom windows Jam.

Just had DS1 parent teacher conference, and he is doing really well in maths, but he is still way behind with his reading and spelling. Poor little guy he is trying but it is hard with us not speaking the lingo enough. So they have suggested we get a tutor and they want to keep him back in group 3 next year. This last bit I am quite fine with, as I had been a bit iffy about him going up last year anyway as he is nearly a whole year younger than most of the kids in group 3. I think they thought he was bored in the 4-6 group last year. But he is a lot younger than the others who came up (most are 7 already but he doesn't turn 7 until 17 August). But still it is hard to hear your child is struggling.

VagolaJahooli · 24/04/2012 15:46

Kiwi we find it easy enough to eat Veggie there, but then we could eat pizza until it is coming out of our ears.
