We've got so good at brooking no argument for no pregnancy complications and sneeze births, we're going for our Phds in big fat babies

too have you tried the under arm rugby hold. You might be able to con m into thinking she us getting the right boob when she is actually getting the left as you approach the boob in the sane way with.this hold. Does that make sense? Let me know if gibberish and I'll try to explain again. I use it on f if he has dozed off or got bored of one boob. It tends to kickstart him again.

Thank you both - that makes me feel better Smile

Do you know according to my mum I was sleeping from 10pm-6am within a week Hmm. That's either a well dodgy memory or I'm not sure she should have been letting me sleep that long so small?

Sorry to hear of the poorly boobages Too - it's awful isn't it Confused. E always feeds better (as in longer but more settled with a better latch) on my right side so my left one gets sore from the poor latch. All not helped by the tail end of his cold, and my cough cough coughing juggling his dinner plate around Sad

Hope m is letting you have some sleep now. DH finally got E to go to sleep and stay there when he was put down - I feel a mixture of total relief that I don't have to listen to the crying anymore, mixed with a bit of feeling a failure that I couldn't sort it myself Confused

hawthers · 06/04/2012 03:41

biscuits we had the same with DH able to settle f when I couldn't. Pretty sure f could smell the milk with me and would get wound up by it. I took advantage and git some loo while FH settled him. Mr b is just doing his bit!

Am sure you can't have slept that long at one week old! I can't exactly remember what happened with DS1 so amazed that your mum can remember so clearly Hmm and anyway all babies are different. Whilst we can try and help them have good sleep habits we can't make them sleep just as we can't make them eat and put on weight. If you did sleep that long perhaps she would like to share the secret with us all or write a book and she'd make millions...

Oh god *get some sleep while DH settled him

Damn autocorrect

Grin at Biscuits' mum being gf. Hmm at sleeping through at a week old! Not convinced by that one.

That's a great idea re rugby ball, Hawthers. I'll give it a try next time. M has just gone down (I hope) and I have fingers crossed for some sleep. Am just refilling the hot water bottle in case of need.

Night night!

Biscuitsandtea · 06/04/2012 05:14

Do you know, even I'm wondering now if she is GF......

I think she definitely has something of a selective memory!

Hope m and f have slept ok and let you both get some rest xx

hawthers · 06/04/2012 06:51

Up again here yawn but all good for our weight gain.

If your mum can get a one week old to do 10 - 6 perhaps she'd like to babysit and 'show' you how it is done?

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 06/04/2012 07:42

If she's so good at it I'm sure that shouldn't be a problem at all Hawthers - I'll send her on a tour perhaps of all the brookers Grin

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/04/2012 15:47

Yes, I want her to come here and show me too!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 08/04/2012 10:55

What is with the sleeping for only an hour or less at a time, tiny baby? Mummy can't cope. Please sleep for 2 hours while Mummy naps. Your auntie and honorary aunties are coming round at 3 and Mummy needs to sleep and then clean the house up a bit.

Urgh. DH has been dragooned into taking Maia for a walk in the pram while I get some sleep, which means he will be tired and grumpy later. He claims to have slept in 40 minute bursts as well Hmm. All I can say is that he looked pretty asleep to me during the hour-long feeding sessions between the 40 minute naps.

Oh well. Happy Easter, everyone!

pommedechocolat · 08/04/2012 11:01

Happy Easter!

Really sorry to hear that too that sounds TOUGH! Chocolate provides great energy bursts in my very humble and a bit wobbly opinion.

We had a good night last night - she fed at half eight, half midnight, four and seven. Was very shocked each time she woke to see the time. That's it now right, she'll do that or better only from now on in?!

Maybe it's the magic six week mark. Or maybe it's the fact we've all got rotten colds and when she's better she'll go back to waking double that!!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/04/2012 17:26

Uh oh.... Growth spurt alert Confused

Anyone else see a growth spurt at 1

Too sorry to hear about the sleep deprivation - I'm feeling your pain a bit (and DH here always looks pretty asleep too!)

Pomme - yay for good sleeping. As you say, that is totally it now - 3-4 hour sleeps are completely guaranteed henceforth Grin. Hope it continues (and spreads to the rest of us!)

Biscuitsandtea · 08/04/2012 17:37

I meant has anyone else had a growth spurt at one month?

pommedechocolat · 08/04/2012 17:59

According to google growth spurt is 4-6 weeks. Abbie went manic at just before five weeks for three days.

I thought that was it for a bit but today may have seen manic feeding too... Whywhywhywhy???????? When does it get easy people that made it further than this last time?

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/04/2012 21:16

Growth spurt here! I actually slept for a decent amount of time because he was attached to my boob last night! He was feeding hourly yesterday although I was shopping so thought it could also be due to all the stimulation and needing comfort. I got a dress that I don't look totally hideous in for this wedding although am a bit :( at my current dress size!

Too it will get better! I promise :) If your nipples are still sore though can you get checked again?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 08/04/2012 21:53

Not sore, Purple, just feeling very dry, like chapped lips. Lansinoh fixes it, though. How do I cope with her having a 'favourite' boob, though? She'll only stay on the left boob for maybe 20 mins before wailing, wriggling and arching away, but will stay on the right for ages.

Yesterday/this morning definitely a growth spurt, Biscuits! She slept beautifully while my friends were here, though. Sod's law meaning I couldn't snooze while she did it.

Purple, yay for a nice dress! Am also Sad at my dress size. It will vanish magically...

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/04/2012 22:33

Too I really couldn't say about boob favouritism could be so many reasons and therefore resolutions (although it isn't necessarily a problem). Could be the way the milk let downs or the amount of ducts you have or it could be something with her. It is very common though. 20 mins is still really good! One of things where you need someone to spend some time with you and help you figure it out. :(

Is she still having to feed to sleep? Did she happen to have forceps with the cs? Anyway, I think it was anecdotal, but I read that if a baby is feeding to sleep that they may benefit from seeing a cranial osteopath. BF helps correct the bones in the skull (and is part of good, face, jaw and skull development) so sometimes babies spend a lot of time at the breast to correct any issues. Again, the good development is absolutely true, but not sire what the evidence was for the cranial osteopath.

Dress is ok, but it is definitely just making the best of a bad lot. lol
Still I did only have a baby 4 weeks ago! As did you :)

pommedechocolat · 09/04/2012 05:37

Last night was a one off! Back to four feeds tonight. .

Is your dress a bf one purple? I ended up with a skirt and a top as still can't work out bf clothes! I think my nipples are too big!!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 09/04/2012 13:54

Nipples too high Envy

No it is a coast one I can pull down. This bargain, much nicer in the flesh

I did buy bf top and it works really well

I had a feeding crazy windy party baby and I slept in really late to compensate!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/04/2012 19:12

Nipples too high? Confused Is that what you meant to say, Purple?

I really like that blue dress - classy and elegant!

Are babies not supposed to feed to sleep? Confused Maia didn't have forceps (have double checked with DH and he says no). Yes, she is feeding to sleep or at least until she is very sleepy and will pull off and fall asleep with her head on my boob. Any attempt to lay her down too quickly wakes her up again. She has started taking breaks during feeds where she will stare around alertly for ten or 15 mins before starting to root again. Sadly, if I put her down during these times she doesn't sleep, just huffles for a bit and then starts to look for food again and demands it loudly if I don't jump to it quickly.

How long are your babies feeding for? M tends to feed for an hour, but she's pulled some really long sessions where she feeds (with some breaks for looking around and maybe some very short naps of 15-30 mins) for nearly 3 hours. She did that this morning between 7 and about 10.30, when I got DH to take her to Tesco in the hope she would fall asleep in the car (which she did, and then slept for 2.5 hours). I think at least the latter part was all about comfort, though, because she would feed for 5 mins then fall asleep, I would try to lay her down and she would snap awake and start again. I did try giving her the dummy Blush but she wouldn't take it. I don't know what I'll do when DH goes back to work tomorrow and I can't get him to take her out in the car or pram while I sleep!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/04/2012 19:21

Oooh, I have another question . When you put your baby in a sling, what clothes should they be wearing? We took Bean for a walk in the Baby Bjorn and she seemed to get very hot. It was raining and cold, so she was wearing vest, babygro and a fleecy hat and DH zipped his fleece and anorak over her so she wouldn't get wet. She woke up and howled after a bit and I think she was too hot. It had stopped raining, so DH unzipped his anorak and fleece, but then I worried she was too cold. Obviously she gets body heat from whoever is carrying her, and I tend to get pretty warm walking around here because there are so many hills. She hasn't really got anything like a coat, and what about her little feet? She has fleecy snowsuits but I think they are too hot for spring - they are really thick. Help!

pommedechocolat · 09/04/2012 19:25

too - Abbie is a quick feeder - absolute max 15 mins but normally 5-10. She feeds very regularly though in the day, say every hour to two hours max. She can sometimes do more at night. Sometimes she does three min feeds every half an hour.

Dd1 fed exactly like Maia from the sounds of it (although could be more efficient at the 1am feed and sleep more before and after that). It was one of the reasons I started expressing and doing bits of formula as we were moving house and dh was working insane hours so I just didn't have time for it Sad. The bottle also didn't really gain me that much more time or sleep just a bit more control. As it made me feel Sad too I wouldn't recommend it as an option!

My advice in retrospect - lots of films/box sets, snacky foods, friends to visit it toddler groups where you can sit and feed get tea and chat to other mums for a couple of hours!

pommedechocolat · 09/04/2012 19:27

I struggle with the sling too and tend to stop regularly at benches to take off/put on a layer!!

purple - love that dress!

Biscuitsandtea · 09/04/2012 20:06

Love the dress purple - gawjus Grin

Too - E feeds for normally 10-15 mins at a time, and feeds on average every 2.5-3.5 hours. Sometimes 4 hours (rarely Sad) and sometime 2 hours or less. Very rare that he'll feed off the second boob as well - once he's done his 10-15 mins he won't normally go back on. Just recently he's taken to having a little cough or the milk going down the wrong way after about 10 mins, and then falls off and wont go back on.

Also he normally falls asleep at the end of the feed / winding. But then he'll often wake again when I put him down.

Sling wise, we have a thin-ish jacket for E and a little fleecey jumper and I tend to use one of those as his coat (in the pram). I've only used the sling once and I think I put his jumper on, but it was a much warmer day. With a wrap sling I don't think I'd worry too much about his feet as they're tucked in. But they poke out in the BB don't they. We have some soft shoes for E - I'll post a link in a mo but don't want to lose what I've written.

I might try the sling again but I'm struggling to tie it on comfortably. Confused it seems to end up too high up?

Right I'll post and then find a link for these shoes....

Biscuitsandtea · 09/04/2012 20:11

The shoes we have are a bit like these although not exactly the same as they are hand me downs from DS1 so are about 3 or 4 years old.

So they're not shoes exactly but a but warm around the feet for them Smile
