Well its raining outside so might stay in today watching last nights Brit awards well FFWing through all the guff to hear the music.

LO is 2 months old today (wow) and he slept 10-5 then 6-8.30 in fact he has done that last 2 nights he is spoiling us. Tried to put him in his bed this morning so i could shower and he screamed the whole time so i picked him up and he fell asleep within a minute have put him back in his bed again as i can be stubborn too!!! Grin

I bought cutest pair of swim trunks for him yesterday it has a swim nappy built in so i assume i dont need anything else? In terms of equipment ladies who have been swimming with LOs i guess its just leave everything in car except a towel then head home for me showers?

KateM77 · 22/02/2012 11:56

figgy I go swimming with Waterbabies and they have a double nappy system. You use a disposable swim nappy as well as a Happy Nappy, which is a neoprene thing that is relatively tight at the waist and legs, and keeps everything held inside! All I take is towels for both of us, swimsuits for both, nappy change stuff, my hairbrush, and a hat for baby. I put us both under the shower to rinse the chlorine off but I don't attempt to wash my hair or anything like that.

Oh, and the other thing to take is a changing mat. It's safest to put baby on the mat on the floor for changing. Not that our LO's are old enough to roll yet, but it puts your mind at rest.

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 22/02/2012 12:15

Morning all,

am not in the greatest of moods. Was going to take ds to baby yoga today, got there at the time advertised to be told by the venue that their booking was half an hour later. Sat around and waited, only for nobody to turn up. Have just got home and double checked the info online and I had got the right time and place, so am not best impressed with the organiser. Am disappointed as I had been looking forward to it too. There may be a good explanation, but I don't think that's a great way to run a business.

Haven't taken ds2 swimming yet, but took ds1 from when he was about 4 months old. We just used a disposable swim nappy to start with, but depending on the warmth of the pool, you may want a baby wetsuit type thing. We didn't have one to start with for ds1, but found he was more relaxed (and warmer!) with it on. We even ended up changing the pool we went to, as the first one the pool temp was good, but the changing rooms were unbelievably freezing. Bearing in mind that you'll be standing around in a cold, wet costume for 10 minutes while you dry baby off and get them dressed, it's not pleasant. We ended up finding a pool where both the pool and the changing rooms were warm. I'm not in a rush to take ds2 to baby swimming groups as we worked out the other day how much we had spent on swimming lessons for ds1 (still goes weekly, at 4 years has progressed from armbands to swimming easily with a woggle-thing (not sure what they are called, but floaty sausage type things that you can bend under their arms) and can swim about 5 metres completely on his own without any support). A over 4 years of classes, we've spent well over £1000 on swimming classes. Poor ds2 will have to go without for a while yet.

Figgygal · 22/02/2012 12:49

DH has banned me from waterbabies, puddleducks etc as its so much money and you have to commit to terms so will just be me and him splashing around i expect. Might try blag a free taster session to see how its done though.

Mmmmcheese · 22/02/2012 12:57

Personally I don't think there's any need for classes at this stage, save your money for when they're older! They'll only want to splash around for 20 mins or so at this stage otherwise will get cold.

I would suggest taking a hooded towel for LO to keep them as warm as possible. Remember nappy change stuff of course and nappy sacs as if they poo in the washable swim nappy you'll need somewhere to put it that's watertight. Definitely double bag!

Its a miracle. DD fed and asleep in trvale cot downstairs. DS had lunch and asleep upstairs. Mummy had lunch, tea and chocolate and now planning on a nap on the sofa! Will see how long DD lasts...

jigglebum · 22/02/2012 13:09

Hi everyone - on the activity front I was determined to take freya to sing and sign yesterday whilst ds was at preschool but sadly ran out of time. I am feeling like the poor girl does not get much attention really so want to find a couple of fun things to do whilst ds at preschool.

we took ds to waterbabies when he was 3 months +. it was good and a good way to meet people but we stopped as going underwater hurt his ears as its an integral part of the water babies philosophy. he now just goes to bog standard classes on his own. they are not amazing but he is improving, he enjoys it and they are cheap. am yet to take f as the pool is cold and dont have the money to justify 12 quid a session, (which water babies cost) anymore. will take her myself fwhen it warms up a bit.

KateM77 · 22/02/2012 13:15

I'd also recommend hooded towel and either a snug or wetsuit for baby. These keep them lovely and warm in the pool and afterwards - you can keep them in the snug and wrapped in towel whilst you get dressed, they stay toasty warm and you can then get them dressed and head straight home after that.

Mmmmcheese · 22/02/2012 13:34

What is a snug?

DD lasted half an hour in the cot. Its a start...

Coolhand · 22/02/2012 14:03

Had a super busy day yesterday and didn't make it on here as possible so massive catch up required! Thanks for all the support over the breast clinic on Monday and as for the needle thing, it wasn't sore and was super quick.

Stellieboo - it couldn't be silent reflux? I have to keep DS upright during feeds or he will do the same as it sets his reflux off.

Mopsy I also have thrashing baby on bottle at times - don't know if it's wind but he often cries if I break the feed to wind him. In terms of the bottle guidelines, the Republic of Ireland guidelines say 70+degrees to kill bacteria, then store in fridge for up to 24 hrs so I've stuck with that for night feeds.

Mmmmcheese and Northern - sleep deprivation is no joke. Hang in there and los will turn a corner soon! Northern I wouldn't be impressed about the nappies! Sorry to hear you are in so much pain with tendonitis as well Sad

Saw those neckties things in M and S as well. I struggle to get bibs that fit easily round DS's neck so was unsure if they'd work. Def think I have a future rugby player on my hands here!

Hawthers sorry to hear about the day from hell yesterday. Sending Thanks

Aethel love the techie lent idea (as I type on my I phone). DH and I are both really bad with spending time on phones and you're right, it's not a good example for DS!

Luke is doing a bit better at night but has been really unsettled during the day for the last few days. Don't know if it's wind/teething/reflux and sometimes find it hard to know what to do! He doesn't sleep well in his crib during the day either - the car seat is the only place he sleeps for any length of time during the day - that or my arms! Got to dash - have ababy that needs winded!

KateM77 · 22/02/2012 14:41

Mmm a snug

EasilyBored · 22/02/2012 16:26

Will do a proper catch up later, squeaker has been very clingy today. Was wondering if any of the north west folk fancy meeting up to go see a film on a tuesday morning? The odeon at the trafford centre do a 'newbies' screening on a tuesday morning where you can take the babies in?

plutocrap · 22/02/2012 16:47

Mmmmcheese, I'm v impressed aboiut the getting off to sleep without a feed! That's supermum skill!

NorthernChinchilla, could DS wear his daddy's pants next time? Even if "nothing happens", it might freak OH out enough to ensure supply links are maintained! Grin A bit like people go funny at the very thought of contact with breastmilk. Is it 'cos it's unpasteurised?

Very impressed with all the swimming activities! I did a bit of Watrbabies with DS, but it made hiseczema worse, so we had to stop, and thepoor child still can't swim! Sad Still, it means I can add a suggestion for swimming bags : baby-safe moisturiser, as chlorinated water is very dessicating, even without eczema.

Speaking of eczema, how is Hope's skin doing, AirofHope?

Took DD to thelibrary's baby bounce today, and although I had to feed her first, she enjoyed therest of it, smiling up at me as I sang to her - I agree about thepoor, neglected second child, jigglebum!

msbuggywinkle · 22/02/2012 16:52

Just booked DD2 in for ballet classes! My idea of hell, but she wants them sooooo much...wonder if DP will take her as it is a Saturday!

On swimming, we used to take the whole gang for a splash every week but the silly ratio rules stop us going until DD2 is 4 now, which is over a year away Sad

We're total tech addicts in our house. DP is on MN too though so we often sit chatting about threads. I confess to sending him fb messages rather than shouting him when I am getting the DDs to sleep! Couldn't be without my iPad!

fusam · 22/02/2012 17:01

Am very impressed with all the swimming too. DD still sleeps like a newborn during the day so haven't even thought of trying to entertain her. Unfortunately, it also means that she wakes pretty much every 2 hrs to feed at night. I am so jealous of some of these long stretches.

AnAirOfHope · 22/02/2012 17:10

Hi

I have a chest infection and i have astma so i can't breath Sad

Hope ill too and has a whole body flear up of eczma - she has red pacthes all over she face, arms, legs and torso Sad i have been creaming her up but think cos she is ill its making it worse. I have turned heating down and she is only in a body vest to keep her cool as it helps. There is also flaky white skin, i guess the skin is peeling Sad

Even with all this she is still smiling and sleeping and currently sucking her hands again Smile

She is starting to try to sit up on her own now and can roll over to her right and left. She has found her feet and hands. She loves kicking her feet. She is also more vocal than Aaron when he was a baby. We get lots of coos and babbling.

Aaron has started to make friends and play with other children and has started to say no to us and tell us what he wants to do - he is being very stubborn (DH said "Just like his mum" lol)

We are still talking about the "third" child - i dont want a third, DH might want another when we move and have room for a 3rd. He is 7 years older than me and i'm not 30 yet so he thinks that in ten years time i may change my mind! Talks are still contiuning, we may need a nato midation team at some point Grin

SS and HV have all backed off and i will not see them again untill 1st march. I have writen complaint letter and have printed it out and put addresses on it but not posted it yet as i want to see if they close the case on the 1st.

KateM77 · 22/02/2012 19:08

plu yes, Oilatum junior is another thing in the swimming bag - I slather it all over them once we've finished.

Well, DS was hilarious at swimming. He was so chilled out he gave no reaction to any of it, either happy or sad, even when he was dunked under water. He looks like me, but seems to have his Daddy's temperament - so laid back he's horizontal Grin. DD on the other hand looks just like Daddy but is more like me in personality.

Air sorry to hear you and Hope are both ill, fingers crossed you're both better soon. We've been having 'third baby' conversations here too. I sorted out all my clothes yesterday and the maternity clothes are now stacked up in the corner of the bedroom....the question is whether they go to the charity shop or into the loft. I really don't want another child but DH has always been keen on more. His comment was that it would be a shame not to get more wear out of the mat clothes. Even I'm slightly reluctant to charity shop them just in case of any future accidents Wink

DarcieandSkysmum · 22/02/2012 19:47

Hey Ladies,

Sorry not been around. Lots been happening around here and not all good stuff :(

Sky is growing nicely and smiles alot now....can't believe she is 9 weeks tomorrow.

My first period arrived this weekend, so will start to chart so we know whats what when it comes to trying for baby no3 at the end of the year.

aethelfleda · 22/02/2012 20:06

Hi guys!

am intact but aware of how much I routinely go online now! Just one day of tech-avoidance and would usually have internetted for several bits of info (number of a tradesman to fix sick oven, name of a coffee shop I'm going to shortly, what the weird extra hidden waist popper in an itti tutto nappy is for) plus checked facebook a few times and looked at the BBC news. Its usually during "down time' so I caught myself reaching for the phone, realised, then put it back. I've specifically excluded this thread from my detox, but will be staying off surfing the rest of MN. I'm not trying to think of if I need to do any internet shopping (think not). DH is due home any minute and he'd better be bloody grateful because I've done the whole bed routine with the DDs while DS was a screaming limpet. I seriously hope his evening grumps don't turn into colic (avoided it with the first two -we're 7 weeks in now so hopefully it won't get any worse). Ds has now conked so an enjoying a few minutes peace...

mopsytop · 22/02/2012 20:29

Hi all, minimopsy had her first jabs today. Unsettled all afternoon, then had a temp of 37.7 and screeching the place down-she never cries like that normally. Gave her calpol and a few minutes later she had calmed down enough to take a bottle. She's mnow in just a vest in her basket kicking and babbling. Still warm but she seems happier. Temp of around 37. Hope it stays down now. The liquid paracetamol bottle says only two doses max but I rang the ooh doctor (the GP told me to ring if her temp went over 37.5) and he said it's fine to give her 2.5ml every four hours. She's wide awake but must be exhausted. This is all normal after jabs, right? Sorry for me post but she was screeching so heart renderingly, poor little thing.

plutocrap · 22/02/2012 20:55

Thanks for the update, AirofHope, although it wasn't all the positive news one could have hoped for. Still, that seems positive progess about the HV.

Poor minimopsy; that sounds horrible. I don't have any experience of anything that extreme but surely under 38C is still ok (physically if not emotionally!), its being the body's revving itself up to battle somethimg more effectively at hgher temperatures (a bit like washimg at 40, not 30)?

The only 3rd baby discussions in this house are about other people's third babies!

I've done well with the Lenten fast today, managing to spot no-nos and pass them by (went "for coffee" with a friend and we both had tea; said no to the Magnums in the freezer...). However, all tis talk of tech dependency means I'm going to have to do that next year, too (or sooner!), as it does resonate here, too.

seven77 · 22/02/2012 21:55

mopsy perfectly normal, hope she settles soon. Just be thankful she isn't screaming.

msbuggy ballet classes sound so cute! I love having a doll to dress up daughter.

airofhope sorry that you're both ill, glad that HV and SS have backed off.

Eva went through the night! She went to bed at 8, I got her up for a feed at 11 then she slept until 6.30. Sorry to those who are still having crap nights, please don't hate me! Me and Eva went to a funeral today, she was as good as good and slept in the wrap through the service, then had lots of cuddles afterwards. 2nd jabs tomorrow.

In other news we've decided to sell our Southwold flat at auction in May, exciting stuff!

Sorry, DarcieandSkysmum, missed your post. I hope it's not somthing so very dreadful that you can't share it, but tak your time...Sad

OiMissus · 22/02/2012 22:09

Hi all, I must admit that when a distant friend posted on FB that she was pg, I was a teensy bit jealous. Got my 7-squillionth-week dr appt on Friday so will ask about ttc then...
Swimming - I take the car seat in. I get ready whilst he stays in his seat, then I put his swim nappy on and the neoprene outer. (You need nappy stuff.) We take his hooded towel poolside for after.
After, I dry him first. I put the changing mat on the floor, and him on top with his towel, dress him, put him in his seat. Then I get dry and dressed. -I don't shower at all.
We moved back home today. Grin no more dog walking. Hurrah! And the goldfish are still alive. Grin Now I just have to unpack everything and get straight AGAIN!

BeeMyBaby · 22/02/2012 23:09

I never tried baby swimming lessons but DSIL did with DNiece and she could kind of dive into the water by about a year, and she has some beautiful pictures of her swimming under water - I on the other hand am far to cheap.

We are thinking of starting ballet for DD1 (baby ballet) as my DSIL suggested that her DD1 would be going so they could do it together so I'm quite excited by that - two year olds in tutus!

Did anyone make a FB group? I love the idea

I've given up sweet things (biscuits, chocolate, pudding etc) for lent which makes up the majority of my diet so I've had four bowls of cereal today to try and satisfy my sweet tooth with stupid raisons in bran flakes. I also made pancakes for DD1 yesterday and coated it in sugar and she completely turned it down and begged for a banana - so I ate it instead.

Are other babies starting to roll? I think DD2 might have earlier in the week, but it may very well have been DD1 pushing her over during tummy time.
