Bad night here too. I am knackered. I was woken every 1-2hrs last by DS punching, kicking, thrashing, grunting, pulling my hair but at no point did he wake up. He falls asleep easily at night dream feeds as we're co-sleeping but can be the noisiest sleeper :( Short of moving him to another room is there anything I can do or will he just grow out of it? I'm so sore as nursing him seems to be the only thing that settles him at all & he's feeding every couple of hours during the day right now >_< How long can I keep calling this a growth spurt?!! Confused

Feeling fed up as I overheard DP on the phone 2 days ago telling a friend he'd rather regret going to Goa than regret not going but I'm still waiting for him to tell me he's made a decision. I don't want it to seem like I was eavesdropping; I'm always telling him not to shout on the phone but the longer he leaves it the more irritated I'm getting :( Last night he suggested we get a cleaner as I obviously can't manage it & this morning when I told him about the bad night (which he slept through as usual) he said we need a childminder so all I'd have to do is BF & he asked if any of our choices were making things difficult. Considering he's deferred to me on all childcare decisions this feels like a bit of a dig. I know he'd deny it or say I'm being overly sensitive but I feel like he's doing his best to make me feel like a failure Angry

Right, enough of the me me me post. Sorry, I really needed to vent Grin

Figgy sorry to hear about your floor;really hope your insurance company comes through. I'm doing much the same as Northern to entertain Rocco but I'm thinking of taking him to sing & sign classes, he'll be a bit young when it starts but the teacher said it'd be ok.

Determined I have no advice but I think you're doing a terrific job & I'm glad things were a bit better last night with Darcie.

hawthers I suppose you're already using a hot compress before every feed? Worked for my milk blister. Good luck with it...I found mine disappeared very suddenly overnight.

mopsytop · 02/03/2012 13:44

Hi all, I don't really do anything special to entertain minimopsy. I think the whole world must be a big adventure to her right now! I pop her in her bouncy chair most days and chat to her as I wash up etc (in fact, I usually just narrate what I'm doing), I chat to her when she's in the sling and we're out if she is awake. That's about it! I put her under her musical mobile a couple of times a day too as she loves it. She's completely uninterested in play mat or toys so don't bother with those yet. Are you supposed to do more? Even if I leave her under the mobile or in the bouncy chair too long she seems together overwhelmed!

mopsytop · 02/03/2012 13:45

'to get' not 'together'!!!!

AWomanCalledHorse · 02/03/2012 13:56

Hugs to everyone having a rough time atm...and a great big Goan fish to your DP Honey.

I've found that DS sleeps better on his side, he gets v.uncomfortable on his back & spends the night squirming (even though all the SIDS advice say on back or nothing, I can't see the point of following it when he rolls onto his side most nights).

DS is another one uninterested in the universe outside of people talking or the tv, so we've not bothered with the millions of toys he's been given.
Although we've started to use a rolled up towel as a 'tummy time' support thing & he finds being on his stomach AMAZING!!

What's everyone upto this weekend?

OiMissus · 02/03/2012 14:20

LO and DH are having a "lads day in" tomorrow whilst I go and get my hair cut and coloured. Grin (still can't decide what to do with it though)
On Sunday we're going to friends' for dinner and football.
That's the plan so far.
ms buggy no chance of a nap,LO rarely sleeps for more than 15mins during the day, and often on me - he wakes if I try and put him down. I'll wait til DH comes home and have a soak in the bath. Smile

Figgygal · 02/03/2012 15:41

LO has only discovered tv the last few days but he's now obsessed with it (oops) ha e pit him in front of last nights glee and he's transfixed much to his daddy's disappointment.

Must say our trip to slimbridge was rather
Mixed he cried as soon as he was in his pushchair so fed him a little early and he slept the rest of the way. Must get used to him crying in the pushchair still find it very embarrassing and hide from the cats bum faces from people.

hawthers · 02/03/2012 16:19

Ds has a mirror hanging from his baby gym and he loves smiling at himself and kicking around - its the cutest thing ever!

NorthernChinchilla · 02/03/2012 16:26

The thing with the babygros and sizing is weird... maybe Mothercare know more about the gene pool round here than I do, but the shape and size of the current lot are only suitable for a mutant orangutan-dolphin hybrid..but so pleased to hear he's 9lbs now hawthers.

Know what you mean HLC, and it seems to vary night to night. Weirdly, he sleeps stock still when napping, but thrashes at night, don't know about your DS? I have a horrible feeling he won't grow out of it, and I'll just have to put up with it til he transfers to his cot.
No comment about Goa... but does he just have an ability to put things really, really badly (clutching at straws emoticon)? I mean, if he said, 'darling, I want you -and us both- to have as much of an enjoyable and relaxing time with our firstborn as possible, how's about I treat us to a cleaner and a childminder if you fancy, so that you can get some R&R' then it would be great.

Bathroom and shower now sparkle- I hate that job- and the cobbler is now made. Just need to do the scone topping when we know what time we're eating. And unlike DP, I have cleared up in the kitchen!

MissRee · 02/03/2012 17:07

I never know whether the babygrow sizing is FROM, say, 9lb or UP TO 9lb!

YBR · 02/03/2012 17:29

figgy We take our LO to the "toddler" group at our church - int includes babies, although there's not much to do except put her on a different baby-Gym thing than er have at home! We've just finished a bay massage course (Children's centre).

At home we sing to her, let her wriggle under the baby gym, that sort of thing. She can be very interested in the hanging toys and the mirror, or just lyes there kicking and squirming. I do "heads shoulders knees and toes" for her which she likes. Thinking about doing baby song/sign things soon.

This weekend, hmm... We have the car back and sorted at last; band practice tonight (me but not DH and LO I think); NCT sale tomorrow morning and I have to think what I'm looking for; Hope to spend some more time in the garden [I only do fruit, veg and herbs btw - can't see the point if it's not edible].

YBR · 02/03/2012 17:31

Oh, and BabyGrows - we measured the leg and body length of one she fits and then looked for larger ones in the shop, regardless of the age stated.

msbuggywinkle · 02/03/2012 17:43

oi that's what I do, DP comes in, vanishes under a pile of small children while I have a bath with book and Wine

Healthy supper this evening, salmon, new potatoes and veg. Just done a tidy and it hit me just how hard I found Miri's pregnancy, no way could I have crawled round the floor picking up toys for half an hour!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 02/03/2012 18:10

Darcie is being good playing in her room. DP has gone to B&Q to get compost for our raised beds & pots for growing our veg.
Sky is feeding, will get her into her pjs afterwards with a nice clean nappy on and try and have a bath with some Wine

Figgygal · 02/03/2012 18:18

Im haddock throwing at dh tonight he's convinced that lo hates him and screams everytime he holds him which isn't true but the way hes reacting means i don't trust him alone with ds. Ds cries at me all the time too but the difference is i try to comfort him, walk round with him, change position if we cuddling, carrying him etc his reaction is to freak out that he ALWAYS cries and give him back to me which can only make things worse. He also has him for about 5 mins then decides lo is hungry or tired even though he clearly isnt its like he cant be arsed with all the baby fussing i have to do all day and now all night. If he cant keep calm and work out for himself what the problem is i cant leave them alone was going to zumba tonight but guess that is out, not that im in the mood for it now anyway after such a fuss........twat.

seven77 · 02/03/2012 18:53

Eva had a long nap earlier which was great as it meant I spent a couple of hours in the garden. The veggie patch has been raked of weeds and covered in our first load of compost as we moved here last year. YBR I'm the the same, nothing grows here that doesnt have a purpose. The only flowerswe otherwithare nasturtiums for salads (and we also found the black flies preferred then to the broad beans) and lavender to attract the bees (and for lavender biscuits!). I also want to get a rose bush for rosehip and hawthorn jelly.

No weekend plans here, we normally go to my parents but they're on holiday in Turkey, so we'll probably do nothing the cleaning tomorrow.

msbuggywinkle · 02/03/2012 19:33

ybr seven me three! I love gardening, but there has to be purpose. My lawn is a special seed mix for chickens so they can eat the clippings!

KateM77 · 02/03/2012 19:51

figgy Have another for good measure. In terms of entertaining DS, at home he's happy sitting in his chair and lying on his playmat and watching TV. The only thing I do specifically for him at the moment is swimming, otherwise he gets dragged along to whatever activities we do for DD. He seems to quite like Rhyme Time (free at the library) and Musical Minis though, songs and musical instruments are clearly very entertaining! You could also find out what sessions your local surestart centre runs - there's bound to be a Mum and baby session (also free).

Had a really good day here. We went to a new surestart centre nearby this morning for Story Explorers - they read a story (today was Goldilocks and the three bears) and then have activities themed around the story. DD had lots of fun playing with porridge oats. They had one corner set up with mats and toys for babies too, so DS was also catered for. Then this afternoon we went to the park with an NCT friend. DD and her little friend ran around playing, we all got a good dollop of fresh air, and then I had the nicest chocolate muffin in the park cafe Grin.

DS has slept loads today which is most unlike him. In fact they're both in bed now and I'm not quite sure what to do with myself! No idea what this will mean for the night ahead....

seven77 · 02/03/2012 19:55

I must admit that DH is the gardener not me. I done some today and last week as DH is behind with it and keeps moaning about of having enough time for the garden and DIY. I thoroughly enjoyed it though and I'm knackered so it may become my weight loss regime!

OP posts:
KateM77 · 02/03/2012 20:04

That last comment did the trick! DS now awake and feeding again. Still, I had 45mins with them both asleep and got loads done!

seven your mention of a weight loss regime has reminded me I've signed up for a triathlon in Sept and have yet to do any exercise Blush. Better get my arse in gear.

aethelfleda · 02/03/2012 20:44

Evening!

Sorry to hear so many of us are knackered: it's Going To Get Better. Honest.

DH out for a drink with work colleagues tonight so I've been microwaving dinner (burp), have bedded the DDs and about to try to bed DS too...then time to pack bag for tomorrow's journey into London. I'm going to take disposables for ease of carrying, tried a rucksack but decided the baby bag looks smarter so will take that (I've got a Babymel one too courtesy of Mother-in-Law!). I'm going to wear an indian top (so I can feed) and indian stretchy skirt with my nice shiny black patent DMs (the bride is going to have to put up with this as it's what fits!!) all quite exciting really...

seven77 · 02/03/2012 21:18

aethel enjoy the wedding!

As its Friday night I'm sending my unset brandy and whiskey truffle mixtures across the ether to anyone in need. I never knew truffles were so easy to make, this may not be a good thing! Looking forward to rolling them into truffles tomorrow.

hawthers · 02/03/2012 21:25

I'm a gardener too although strictly flowers, love me some honeysuckle intertwined with a climbing rose and a Chilean glory vine get me. Ah I need some time in my garden to chill me out.

kate have also got to do something about my fitness. Have signed up for a half marathon in October... Hmm think that wasn't very wise. Have also purchased the shred dvd which I hear is hell. Am feeling fed up of the extra stone and a half that I'm carrying.

Mmmmcheese · 02/03/2012 21:26

I only grow things that you can't eat in our garden as where we live there are hundreds of cats that come and poo in our garden so I wouldn't want to eat anythoing grown in it! Its only v small anyway. I have mostly climbing roses along all the fences - all different shades of pink. Very pretty in the summer and flowers can last until October if its mild.

Those of you who do the EASY routine, how do you get your LOs to sleep? It never worked with DS but I am trying it with DD. Have managed to keep her awake after feeds but then when she gets tired it takes 30mins to an hour to get her to sleep by rocking/walking/slinging. Doesn't seem very easy to me!

hawthers · 02/03/2012 21:27

seven recipe please although that is so not going to help with the weight loss regime Sad

hawthers · 02/03/2012 21:29

mmm loving the image of your roses.

I get ds to sleep by rocking/swaying/jiggling or the pushchair. Sorry no hot tips.
