Thanks all...and now I'm really properly back, kickin' off the graveyard shift

BJR · 27/02/2012 03:12

to everyone else on nightshift while trying to send sleep vibes to wide awake looking DS ...

mopsytop · 27/02/2012 03:29

Hello all! Back on the nightshift! Sleepy.

Oh and if anyone's awake opinions eanted! Have a
Wedding to attend by myself next week, just DS and myself. It's an all afternoon affair in central London but a12-15 min walk from the tube. I was tossing up whether to just take DS in the Moby wrap (easier for tube) but am now thinking to take the buggy too (umbrella fold maclaren) so je has somewhere I can sleep him and not look like a total crAzy hippy socialise during the meal etc, may make the long walk bacl to the tibe easier.... Would bring the wrap too so that wjen back to thw tune could put him in wrap amd carry buggy in one hand and baby bag in the other.

Anyone done this? I've been alone with just a wrap, bag and babe, but it's the weddingness that's throwing me (and the longer walk to the venue). Does my plan sound cunning or insane?

hawthers · 27/02/2012 03:59
aethelfleda · 27/02/2012 04:00

(and I'll be getting a train into london so may use buggy for that bit too)

hawthers · 27/02/2012 04:01

Vote for cunning definitely. I think it's best to get all options avaikanle

mopsytop · 27/02/2012 04:02

aethel, not that I've any experience of this, but I think bring buggy so you've somewhere to put him.

plutocrap · 27/02/2012 04:33

Sympathy for the overtired baby, figgy. Te excessive consumption sounds like a desperate need fr soothing in he only way he knows. Have you been rockng or- desperate measure - tried a spin in thecar?!

Coolhand - argh, whenever I hear the word "banter", it aways seems to be an unpleasant, pleased-with-(generally) himself fuckwit saying it, as though he thinks he's neutalised all opposition by using the word "banter", and is being unpleasant in full awareness! A bit like "I'm not being racist, but..." is used to be racist!

LMF, i've still got that phrase in my head: "the absolute arse of a woman cutted up my pear!" Whoever wrote that has a genius for toddler dialogue!

aethel, a folded buggy is easy enough to carry. Doesn't a folded Mclarenhave a handle? Besides,(a) it might be too hot and (b) I hate going to the loo when I;ve only got a sling for the baby.

OiMissus · 27/02/2012 04:58

LO has fed and is still awake, 1hr in. Now I'm wide awake. .. Loved the "go the f* to sleep" bedtime story on YouTube, I may set it going in LOs crib.

You're so right about banter and peole being dickheads and using that as their excuse. Nope, you're still a dickhead, dickhead. - I'm anithr snob from a working class background.

OiMissus · 27/02/2012 05:00

aethel I'd take a pram definitely, but have no tube experience.

LittleMissFlustered · 27/02/2012 05:11

I've done the tube with a buggy, it's doable but the wrap will make your life easier. I'd take both. I'd also make your baby bag a rucksack for the day as you need a hand for buggy and one for thumping gesticulating at other train users and for protecting baby's head:)

LittleMissFlustered · 27/02/2012 05:14

Nipples on fire today, he's fed at least every two hours, and overnight that's dropped to hourly. Close to tears when he wakes up at the minute:(

EasilyBored · 27/02/2012 06:32

Seriously, HOW are you guys getting your babies to sleep through?! Are there drugs involved?! I feel like there must be drugs involved because nothing short of chlorophorm is going to make squeaker sleep. Gah! He was so tired yesterday he,pretty much napped all day, could not keep him awake. So come bedtime, he is having none of it. Finally manage,to get him down at 10 and that's by letting him chunter and stare at him new lightshow mobile thing until it knocks him out. Wakes up at 12, takes about 3oz, wakes up at 3 and takes about 5, then he's awake again at 6 for a bf. It's like he just doesn't want to eat during the day! Went on Amazon last night so desperate for the, post to arrive so I read the book and then baby whisper the crap out of him.

Left over birthday cake and much coffee to fellow zombies.

Sorry for me me me post, will catch up later when not on phone.

Xiaoxiong · 27/02/2012 07:19

Easily you've just described my DS's night time "routine" - if he goes down at 10pm he usually wakes up to feed around 3 and 6am, stays awake till 10am and sleeps for another hour so i'm already up and dressed and can't go back to bed. If we're unlucky he'll wake at midnight too. Then he feeds every hour or two during the day. He has slept from 10pm-7am twice, both times after such a hellish day of miserable howling that I wouldn't want to repeat it just to tire him out to that extent.

If I wasn't breastfeeding and co-sleeping I think I would be dead - as it is it's not too bad as I don't usually fully wake up for the night feeds unless he cries or needs changing.

So anyway, your babe sounds totally normal from where I'm standing!!

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 27/02/2012 07:23

I don't know what has changed (probably nothing), but ds has slept really well the past two nights. Afterbeing a screaming banshee on Friday, Saturday was mixed - some episodes of inconsolable crying, but some more smiles. The teething gel didn't helpmuch on Saturday, but ds spent a calm 20 minutes chewing on my finger. Did try giving him calpol as well (by syringe) but most of it came straight out again. Sunday, he was his normal happy self. Saturday night he went through a crying bit at 9 pm where cuddles/rocking and shushing wasn't helping, so I put him in his cot and turned his mobile lightshow on while I went to the loo (we often do this after nappy changes while I wash my hands, etc.). It really calmed him down so I left him in there while he was happy (and cooing at the lights), and he fell asleep all by himself for the first time after about half an hour (he's normally bf to sleep). He slept for about 4.5 hours then had a monster feed of over an hour, and I br.ought him back into our room and the moses basket for the rest of the night). Last night we tried the same thing (he was wasn't crying though, but was awake) and he got himself to sleep again after about half an hour (the mobile lasts 20 min before it hasto be turned on again) and slept for an unprescedented 7 hours before waking for a feed! Come on, I'm allowed to make the most of it and feel a bit smug as I know it's unlikely to last Wink

We were going to slowly transition him from moses basket to cot (maybe by putting the basket in the cot for a couple of nights) but I don't think we'll do this now. Not sure if I need to play with the settings on his monitor though s it picksup him crying but we didn't hear the music from the mobile through it

Epic Sunday morning post plu!

Well done with the weight gain hawthers and good luck for the "official" weigh in

plutocrap · 27/02/2012 07:36

LMF: "Close to tears when he wakes up at the minute"

Poor baby, and poor you! Sad Here's hoping it's just a growth spurt or catching up. He is still a little one, remember, and we have a very wide range of ages on this thread, not to mention the time he spent in hospital... Just checking back, FairyBayLeaf and Tjuice seem to have gone, but seven 's little Eva was 21 November!

Easily, Caspar's also towards the end of the month, so that could be a factor. Tgen there's the day/night confusion (baby whisperer deals with that), size (critical mass needed for sleep), and finally individual children are different: I don't know myself with the sleep DD gives me, as DS was so rubbish at night, but he wnt lnger in the day, annd didn't indulge in binge-drinking sessions before bedtime, as DD does (though, God knows, I tried to tank him up before bed, and tried dream feeding - nope). He passed out through drink too early, whereas she can hold her milk better Grin! One final thing whoch might help lengthen sleep is warmth. I know they say 18C for nurseries, but you can lighten the clothes and bump up the heating and that could help? If you, have a 1 tog sleeping bag his core won't ovrheat, yet his hands and face will be warm, and there will possibly be less stimulation from cold air.

Mmmcheese, about the poo: DD is currently grunting away(and has been, all night, whenever she's been awake), as she seems to just want to poo! DS didn't strain, but "went" regularly. Now is a different matter, though. If we don't give him lots of fruit (so he can't hold), he tries to hold it, and we have loads of stained pants - just lovely. I must ask my mother about overcoming this reluctance, as my brother used to hold his poos, too. Anyone here have any ideas how to help him, so he doesn't refuse to go for ages?

plutocrap · 27/02/2012 07:40

xposts with other wakeful babies! DD is still trying to poo, but I don't think it's quite there yet. However, I'm getting up for the day and leaving her (see? I said I was mean), as the room is blacked out, and I want to pretend!

Figgygal · 27/02/2012 08:04

Morning all well last night his daddy got him to sleep in the end on 5th attempt but he then slept until after 7. We just can't seem to get his feeding right even now he's on formula I have tried to give him a dummy as I refuse to believe he's that hungry and think maybe it's the sucking sensation he wants but he spits it out then inhales a bottle like he's never been fed in his life.

Am thinking of starting to move him into his own room too he thrashes about and tends to wake me up every night/morning and I can't then get back to sleep, ant tips on how best to do that?

I'm hiding in bed for next hour the washing machine repair guy who may or may not (but seems a big coincidence if not) have replumbed our washing machine wrongly causing a leak and ruining our lounge flooring is coming round and there shall no doubt be awkward allegations from DH which I'd like to avoid. LO is flailing around smiling and cooing at me (happy noises are a new development) so am sure he'll keep me entertained.

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 27/02/2012 08:33

plu, we had similar issues with poo avoidance when ds1 was about 3.5. At one stage he went over a week without going (cue visits to the doctors for laxatives). We ended up giving him lactulose and another one (can't remember what it was, but was advised by the doctor) regularly over a number of weeks to get him to go regularly, and we downloaded the mn favourite "poo goes to pooland" to read to him, and watched Flushed Away and had discussions about Roddy the rat going down the sewers. We also had lots of discussions (tmi, sorry) about how mummy and daddy did poos every day to keep their tummy happy and eventually he would go. I think it's something to do with potty training as he would wee in the loo quite happily but really didn't want to poo. We're now having the opposite issue (not really a problem) in that he's spending so long sitting on the loo (as I'm typing actually), telling stories and taking forever to get finished. Here's hoping we get to school on time today!

Are anyone else's babies complete telly addicts? Ds2 will contort his neck to exorcist lengths to get a small view of the telly. I think I was a bit pfb with ds1 (didn't even let him watch cbeebies until he was about 9 months old), but with ds2 that's just not practical. If I need to do something else, like cook ds1's dinner and ds2 is not interested in his playmat, I'll put him in his swing chair and turn it towards the telly to keep him interested for 10 min (bad mummy emoticon) and he's fascinated. DH was happy that ds2 sat with him while he was watching football yesterday ("at least I have one son who's interested in football!" as ds1 really isn't!)

Is anyone else still in maternity jeans? I can do up my old, pre-pregnancy jeans once I've held my stomach in but because I had a cs, the scar is too uncomfortable with the waistband bit of the jeans. I'm still in my comfy, maternity jeans with the soft jersey waistband, but they're falling apart now and I don't know what to replace them with. I don't really want to get any more maternity jeans as ds2 is 12 weeks now, but normal ones are too uncomfortable to wear. Any ideas?

Got to go get ds1 off the loo and ready for school - have a good day everyone!

RoxanneY · 27/02/2012 08:38

Just seen this thread, can I join?

EDD 18/12/11 DS Born 24/12/11 9lbs 1oz

I'm not sure where the last 9 weeks have gone! Starting to feel like a human again as DS has started sleeping through the night and dropped his 2am feed from 8 weeks.

I upped his feed to 210mls and I'm feeding him every 4 hours at 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm and 10pm. Sometimes he will wake in the night at 3am or 4am with wind so I have been picking him up and changing his nappy and then putting him back in his moses basket. I think picking him up helps the wind out as its a change of position. This usually takes 15-30 minutes, but better than feeding in the middle of the night which takes much longer!

Tonight I'm going to move him into his cot as he's getting too big for his moses basket...fingers crossed that he won't notice the difference!

aethelfleda · 27/02/2012 08:38

Thanks for reassurance guys- and excellent rucksack advice lmf: may try it out as not sure if my wrap sling will combo well and the baby bag my MIL gave me is a bit smarter.. Think a trial round the block is gonna happen!

Hope to see some of you soon at BW!
