I've decided to dice with dath and get my laptop out. They're short-staffed tonight and the nurse has said as long as we don't set fire to the place we can pretty much do as we wish. There are two babies in this six bed room, and they're not admitting any more to the entire ward tonight due to staff issues so there'll be no movement. Huzzah!

Octopus is ok. His night sats are driving the staff crazy, he is improving in the daytime, but his deep sleep is so deep that he needs 35% o2 just to maintain reasonable levels. I have a feeling that our named nurse tonight is going to have words with the boys (other inmate is a lad a couple of weeks older than the octopus) as they are being awkward. This is her third night and she is bemused by their antics. They have managed to synchronise themselves, and when one has a hissy fit the other will join in, they'll set their monitos off at the same time, and at one point their readouts were the same too. We have suggested that they're using the beeps as a method of communicating without nurses or mothers being any the wiser...

As you can see, the cabin fever has taken hold >_<

I am on the thirteenth floor of the building, and can see te river from here, so if anyone needs a haddock at any point I'll see if I can snag one with the powers of my mind. Before you worry, 'tis a tidal river very close to the coast, a haddock should;t be over difficult though a porpoise would inevitably be easier. And, to be fair, much more entertaining for beating folk about the noggin with:o

Why yes,yes I am dealing with this all by just resolutely keeping a stiff upper lip, drinking tea and refusing to sit in a corner rocking. Onwards?

Going to put another picture of the octpus up in a second, as I think his rather fetching headbox is the mutt's nuts, and all the babies'll be wearing them to the posh functions this year...

How is the feeding going, aethelfleda?

Report
luckysevens · 02/02/2012 01:16

missree it must have been a very proud moment!

aethel great that you got the tongue tie snipped, hope feeding goes better tonight.

msbuggy I'm also loving hand-me-downs. My sister has a 16 month old girl so Eva has been getting her clothes. I just need to let her know when we need the next size.

I love having a girl, nappy changes are so much easier, DS managed to wee in his eye once! When I changed him I used to keep the wet nappy under him and put the fresh nappy on front first, then take away the wet one whilst pulling the fresh one underneath him so I wouldn't get showered.

Both DC's have bad coughs and DS has been miserable with his all day. I'm a bit worried about Eva, other than waking for feeds she's been asleep nearly all day. She's also only had 4 feeds today where she would normally have 5 and has been taking less than normal. I just woke her for a feed as I wasn't happy for her to go longer than 7 hours. She had 90ml but she would normally have up to 200ml. Should I ring the dr in the morning?

Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep.

Hi all,

LMF you're being amazing at coping! Hope octoboy is having an okay night and needing less oxygen.

It's freezing here but leaving heater off in an attempt to keep me awake. Sooo sleepy. Minimopsy seems to cluste feed from 8 or 9 to midnight which is buggering up my attempts at bedtime routine. For example tonight she fed 6-7, then gave her a bath, snuggles in towel, then put her down. But she only slept for twenty minutes or half an hour then cluster fed until midnight. Not sure how I canturn thus into one longer feed. Any ideas?

luckyseven, I'd sat if you are worried about her, bring her to GP. Just to be on the safe side. P

Morning,
What's this? No aethel, no mopsy, no lmf?
hurrah! I hope you're all having a good night.
Maybe Eva is sleeping to ward off /fight the cold, seven?
My LO is really restless tonight. I've even brought him back into bed with us coz he's calm here, but not in his crib. I think maybe he's cold - how to protect from draughts when bumpers aren't allowed, and blankets tuck neatly under arms, away from faces? Tried a hat, he got upset. But his head and hands were cold. But he's ok next to his mummy. So I guess I'll bevstaying awake for a bit longer.
Sleep well ladies.

Get the feeling my nipples are gpong to grt mauled a bit

Holy mackerel: on the boob and we have suction! It's s huge contrast to having to hold him on and coax the milk in, though think it will take a little ehile for him to really get used to it (he almost choked earlier ehen he have an almighty slurp and got more milk than he was expecting).

After the ambivalence of stupid formula-pushing midwife who made me feel like a right numpty for insisting on the tongue tie clinic referral I am SO glad I ignored her ignorant arse and sought second opInions from thw BF counsellors. And a bit of regret for not getting it sprted out sooner, but it's easy to say that now I know it has helped him. Never mind, such is life, onwards and upwards.

*lmf, hang in there hon, you are doing brilliantly. It's quite normal to have 3-4 bad nights with bronchiolitis before things settle down, the staff will be used to this timescale and I'm sure ocotboys sats will get better tomorrow: its to do with the inflammation building up and then receding. Are the DDs doing OK?

Oh, and oi, don't pop a hat on in bed as baby needs an unvovered head to regulate their temp while they sleep.best thing for covering is a cellular blanket: make sure your duvet can't get over them, then use a blanket to cover them, if you are cuddling LO in bed them you may prefer a big blanket to prevent your top half from freezing too!

"Good morning", all!

Fantastic news about DS's suction, aethelfleda - made me think of a hoover which has been emptied! Grin

Mopsy, we have that lack of burping; I sympathise! Fingers crossed that minimopsy will burp! (Have you tried the laying-down-then-picking-up trick?) And are you yourself feeling better?

aethelfleda · 02/02/2012 05:04

Ok, shouldn't have mentioned DS conking out: ten mid later and he's wailiing in the moses basket :(
Now back on boob and I suspect will need cuddles in bed til the morning.
Still happy though (and love the hoover analogy, plu!)

Got another 2 hours sleep from 5.30/7.30

now just got to get the DDs to school, we're having issues with DD1 not going to bed on time. She goes to bed but is a very keen reader and will literally read for hours unless we forcibly ask her not to. Then of course bect morning she's grumpt and doesn't want to get up/dressed. It's great that she loves reading, but not ideal with the timing!

Northern Sorry to hear you're going through it too, but glad I'm not the only one! Yes, it was completely different when I BF DD. She used to go 3 hourly through the day, and would sleep quite a bit in between feeds, she then tanked up for a couple of hours in the evening and would go for long stretches at night - I've recorded in her baby book that she was sleeping for 6 hours at night by the time she was 9 weeks old. DS is now almost 7 weeks and we're nowhere near that!

aethel so pleased to hear things have improved

LMF hang in there, sounds like you're doing briliiantly
