northern I am still in my pyjamas if that makes you feel any better!

Anyone heard from Tyel lately? Hope she is recovering okay from her appendectomy.

Hello!

air that sounds awful. I think by their standards there probably isnt a 'good' parent in the country! Brilliant that you are complaining, are you gong to ask to change HVs?

I also can't wait for Being Human...we loved Misfits too!

Have spent the afternoon gabbing with a friend, her youngest is 8mths and she brought round some great hand me downs for Miri!

Compromised on the shower/getting dressed, and DS is sparko in the sling and has been for an hour. Have tidied the bathroom cabinet (made up a little basket purely for him as well) and made tomorrow's sarnies.

Thanks mopsy, that does make me feel better... I just wish my outfit were sexy PJs, or at least bloody matching top and bottoms Grin!

That sounds lovely msb, and great that Miri gets a new wardrobe. Looking at LO today he's filling his 0-3 length-wise, although it's baggy round the middle. If we move him up to 3-6 he'll look like he's been on a crash diet.

Hope tyel is on the mend too, and that we hear from some of the others.

Hope all boilwers and leaks havebeen fixed! We had a bit of snow here yeaterday, and my MIL scared me this AM, telling me tomorrow wld be -6c (having checked BBC, think sge's eother got sth outdated or is exaggerating).

Don't let house probloems frighten you in househunt, OiMissus!

Oh, LMF, bronchiolitis is tough. DS had it first when he was about 6 months, then yearly thereafter. It's basically asthma now, though mild (thank goodness), buttressed by some allergy issues including environmental factors (dust mites, mould, etc.). However, there is apparently a policy in place to offer 'flu jabs to all under 5s with asthma; that, and the prophylactic medicine we've got him on (twice daily nebulisers in the colder months) meant he was ok last winter (not hospitalised! Grin) and seems to be okay this winter, too. Let me know if you want details of the medicines, though I should warn you that we got some of them abroad (DH is from Eastern Europe, and through a family contact, we got onto a specialist there). However, please note that it may be more allergy appropriate - we'll hope that Octoboy is just wheezy, and never develops anything else!

How are you feeling mopsy?

And baby YBR?

Snap on the Poirot, YBR and NorthernChinchilla! Did you see the Marple one with the lovely Benedict Cumberbatch looking very wooden?
They are republishing James Anderson's murder mysteries now - all country house killing and excellengt plotting. I really recommend them if you want sth new (and good)!

NorthernChinchilla and hawthers, if you get any more "I'm knackered" moans, they are veyr annoying, but you must not do any kicking while wearing DS - you will do yourself an injury!
...but a kicking might do your 'un some good, lucky sevens. What does he mean, talking about cot death to someone who's not actually drunk and therefore is capable to responding?! Angry

Kri5ty, any progress on getting some milk sorted? If you need to use emotional/emotive blackmail, do so! I have a friend with two daughters, both with some sort of milk related problems. The second one was diagnosed in time, and got specialm milk much earlier, so is pretty much catching up her older sister - who's just over a year older! The older child isn't exactly stunted (she is perfectly formed and very athletic), but seems to have ended up quite small. Sad
By the way, some teething powder is made up with lactose, so do beware of that issue.

itsybitsy, are you over the D&V now? Hope you are nicely rehydrated and rested? Smile

Mmmmcheese, a piece of advice we were given by a children's A&E doctor (DS has had various wheezing episodes) is that up to about 38, it's not really worth trying to reduce the temperature, as the body has itself raised the temperature to combat something more effectively. If the temp goes up, of course, battle it with all you've got! In one bad episode, We had a good regime of paracetamol (Calpol) and ibuprofen being alternated, so that the effectiveness overlaps and keeps temperature down/eases pain. It also means you don't have more than the maximum amount of either medicine in a 24 hour period.
(Bugger, you and aethel have just repeated that about temp! Perils of doing a lomg catch-up...)

I bought a great snot-sucker on Monday. DD smiles when she sees the end of it in my mouth. I can't believe she doesn;t mind the sensation of it, but am very grateful! It's the one wiht a tube for the parent to suck on (and, yesm there is a filter to prevent Mummy from actually sucking the snot! Envy)

msbuggywinkle, when I was investigating the 'flu vaccine, it was mentioned that it was not suitable for egg allergy sufferers. Are all vaccines on a base of substances to which some people are allergic? It's a very hard thing to have to deal with in life - sorry!

jigglebum, what did you do with the baby while cycling? I have a seat on my bike, but don't think itcan be used till 4 months?

AWomanCalledHorse, you are a genius for putting your finger on it - a bathroom sensor, of course!

Bon voyage, Figgy!

Congrats to Air! Success helps beget more succcess, so now that he know what it should feel like, he can continue "getting it" till it's habit!
As for the meeting, put inyou letter that the meeting should not have been held without so many key persons; any "conclusions" from such a meeting are bound to be invalid.

Kitty, I'm impressed you managed to get the stuff onto ebay in the first place! I always get bogged down with the pics.

When will yiu hear abiut DH's job, bennybenbear?

aethelfleda, good luck for the togue tie snip! Hope it makes all your feeding dreams come true! Smile With more sleep at night, you'll be able to save your viewing for daytime, and spin out Caprica a bit longer (BTW, haven't seen it, but would like to. Think DH has lent out our DVDs of Galactica, so can't get on with that, either... damn)
Thanks for the additional advice, sotired and HoneyLovesCake!
P.S. aethefleda, I know it's awhile ago now, but I was very tickled by your "thank crunchie" euphemism! Smile

and speaking of weird dreams, I dreamt the other morning that my nipple ws twitching like a rabbit's nose - thanks to DD's little nibbling feed while I was trying to sleep!

DD is on the baby gym as I watch her mobility. I bloody slipped on my warm socks and the stair carpet, and think her neck got some pressure from an unsupported head... yet she's moving all right thus far (it;s been about 15 mins), her pupils are all right, and she doesn't seem unduly distressed. I am hopig not to have to take her to A&E as the sun is going down soon, and it's so cold that I've been taking her to ad from DS's preschool in the sling so she doesn't breathe the cold air.

Poor winter-born babies, all of them! Sad

We're back! Very nice lactation consultant, confirmed DS did have a tight tie (phew, wasn't imagining it!) trussed him up in a towel and snipped it. Gave him a little try on the boob before we left, and seemed OK. Just got back home for a proper feed and can feel the difference in his latch and feed already: let's hope it translates to easier nights too!

Thanks guys for the kind comments :o)

I haven't gotten over wetting myself laughing coming across Orlando Bloom in an old Midsommer I think it was, on the wrong end of a pitchfork Grin. Of course, he does wooden par excellence.

I'm always strangely torn with Sherlock, as I've got quite a thing for Watson...

Know exactly what you mean ref dream and rabbits nose plu, strangely enough.

So pleased that the snip went well aethel, fingers crossed for a good report tomorrow morning!

It was the Murder is Easy one, here. It's full of familiar faces, including one which drove me mad till I realised she had played Prof. Jaggett in Being Human!

Yes, Martin Freeman is very appealing as Watson, although he sounds rather too laddish in person - in an interview I read, he jokes about sexually harassing the person who plays Mrs Hudson, which wasn't very nice... Hmm

With regard to the routine business, I am struggling to get enough good feeds in by 4/5pm so I can make supper in time for DS to be getting up to bed at a decent time. However, that's the ideal!

Congrats on the snip aethel!
air I am appalled at the way you're being treated. Whatever happened to innocent until proved guilty? You sound like a great mum to me, you must be -everyone on this thread is here because they care and they want to get it right and to support othersnin the same position. I wish I could offer you more support/advice on how to deal with their interference but it's not something I know anything about. I really feel for you, it makes me so angry. Good luck. ((hugs))
Another great post plu!
I've had a lovely day meeting up with other mums and their babies. At one point there were 6 mums and 6 babies all together in someone's front room. Brilliant. I now have some real life mum friends as well as my fab virtual mumsnet ladies. Grin

Air you are a fab mum and don't let them say otherwise. I have laundry in the kitchen so I must be grouped with you! Hmm

Right, I've given Sky a lavender bedtime bath in the hope it settles her to sleep for some of the night Smile wish me luck!

Fantastic aethel!

plu the main problem seems to be that there are so many ingredients in vaccinations that it is impossible to say what we reacted to. I had hoped that a delayed schedule would work for my DC, but I won't risk any more reactions like DD1's.

Air I can't believe how you're being treated. I hope your complaint letter does the trick

Aethel great news about the tongue tie snip. Fingers crossed it'll be a good night ahead for you

Well done plu it seems equilibrium is restored having one of your epic posts on the thread!

I'm getting a bit worried that I'm not producing enough milk for DS. As an example the longest he's gone between feeds today is 2.5 hours and that was only because I went out for a long walk with him in the carrier (and he didn't even sleep through all of that - very odd baby who stays awake most of the day!). I'm not sure what to do really, but I guess I'll get him weighed again next week, see where he is on the growth chart and see if HV has any suggestions. Ideally I'll BF for 6 months as I did for DD, but I can't carry on like this for another 4+ months, it's exhausting :(

On another note....a naive question from a Mum not used to having a son: He seems to get little erections pretty much every time he has his nappy changed. Is that normal? Blush

Report
AWomanCalledHorse · 01/02/2012 20:31

Kate, it's normal! I let out a little cheer when DS is standing to attention as it means I won't get wee all over me Grin

plu, in awe of your epic post. I also lol-ed at your dream waking up DS, so it's your fault I'm not sleeping tonight!!!

I've been rubbing Nelsons Teethers (like Ashtons & Parsons) on his gums like it's cocaine...it's helped! Although he looked puzzled earlier as he was mid-scream & then the pain went away, t'was almost cute (he'd look cuter asleep, but hey-ho)!
Here's to an ok night for all of us!!

Report
plutocrap · 01/02/2012 20:33

msbuggywinkle: what a shame it's so nebulous! Incidentally, I knows someone whose DD has multiple sensitivities (severe nut allergy, eczema bad enough to require wet wrapping), and she reacted badly to vaccination. I hadn't realised there might be a link (probably because he din't mention such apossbility, either), and that's a particular shame becausehid DD2 takes after their mother in lack of allergies and "insensitive" skin, yet they haven't vaccinated her, so if either of them get something, they can't "protect" one another, as you put it. Sad

Report
KateM77 · 01/02/2012 20:37

Thanks AWCH. And good point about the lack of wee :)

Report
plutocrap · 01/02/2012 20:41

Kate, I've only recently been aware of DS's erections, although it's possible it's all gone to Room 101 in my head. Anyway, they don't seem to mean anything to him yet, at nearly 4, and a baby is even more pre-sexual than atoddler.

AWomanCalledHorse, I'm so sorry the dream made you laugh so much; I hadn't thought it was quite so dangerously funny! Shock Mind you, I did laugh for long minutes this afternoon, at this thread. It must be the sleep deprivation which made me so easy to amuse!

Report
OiMissus · 01/02/2012 20:42

God, one handed typing while twisted is going to crippl me!

Oh, that's unfortunate plu- one of the reasons I liked him was because he'd come across as a v strongly liberal, socialist-y type in an interview, the sort you'd come across at Occupy. Will transfer all my lust to BC if that's the case.

Kate- I'm in exactly the same position. LO barely sleeps during the day, and the longest he went between feeds was 2 hours when he was in the sling too! Normally it's about an hour/hour and a half, He does go a bit longer at night though, 2-3.5 hours. I don't think it's amount of milk (after DS's immense cluster feeding I leak cheerfully, and he's still feeding more in the evening) but the constant grazing is bloody wearing.
Take it it was different when you bf'd last time? I've nothing to compare this to.

No erections here, but I'm expecting them!
