OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Trudyla · 30/01/2012 19:13

viks How did your first day solo go? Hope it went well!

Welcome back wss. We missed you.

cake Thanks for the survey. It's so interesting to read what all the others are up to.

Chulita · 30/01/2012 20:56

DH is on nights and S just threw up all over his bed/grobag/pjs/monkey and then cuddled me tight and transferred a lot DH is the puke-tidier-upper usually but obviously couldn't leave S like that. He's got a cold/cough and I think he coughed so much he puked.

viks hope all went well and it wasn't as bad as you thought!

Thanks for the survey cake, I'll do it tomorrow when I'm not itching to get into bed.

After saying for months that L can't count/recognise letters, about a week before she started nursery she suddenly started reading out loads of letters off the fridge, and writing numbers, tonight she wrote m-u-m her first written word Grin and no one can say it was nursery cos it wasn't (wasn't me either, I'm proper slack on that kind of thing since she's not shown an interest up til lately!)

CakeandRoses · 30/01/2012 21:02

wow chul writing?! i didn't know they could yet!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 30/01/2012 21:10

E has to write his name when he goes in every morning. He can't do it unaided though, I have to tell him to join my dots with a line or draw a circle and put a tail on it, etc.

That's amazing chul, I'd be very proud too :)

Sorry bout the vom though

Chulita · 30/01/2012 21:25

I didn't know they could either. It does take up the entire width of an A4 for the 3 letters but it's definitely there Grin . She's been doing l, o, u, m, and a couple of numbers for about a fortnight but I showed her how to write mum since she was doing the letters separately and then she proceeded to scribble it over the back of the sheet.

i can understand that tsc. it's good news but sad that it's that bad to need it Sad

to c and p: touch the screen - press select - scroll over the text you want - press copy - go to where you want to paste, click and select paste

F's done the joining the dots stylee before but not freestyle. will have to give him a go with it. just bought him an 'exercise book' and gold star stickers today to start doing letters and numbers and stuff in so i expect he'll enjoy trying it in his new book.

i was like a proper dragon mother at the nursery the other day as they'd said on his report that he didn't recognise the letters O and V, when actually they were - by chance - 2 of the first ones he learnt and it was bloody ages ago (i was pg with A so he was about 18 months). anyway, he does (he read it straight off the report the instant I showed him Grin.

i think he gets bored with them going over it all at nursery at the mo while they're all starting to learn their letters. i don't think they actually thought i was dragonish btw, i tried to not to be Grin

i was initially going to stop 'teaching' him at home til the others caught up but feels a bit silly really when he wants to learn and it's something we enjoy doing - esp as he;s here more than he's there.

i guess he's just going to have to figure out his own way of dealing with the boredom at nursery.

CakeandRoses · 30/01/2012 23:56

tsc did C have that 'issue' at nursery? if so, what did you do?

WhatSheSaid · 31/01/2012 05:02

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/01/2012 08:07

Morning, D woke up 3 times last night but got up at 7:15 which is better than it has been.

Might take him out today if it doesn't rain, it's freezing cold but we were in all day yesterday and I'm going crazy!

What's everyone else upto?

CakeandRoses · 31/01/2012 09:19

gotta be quick as should be at work getting ready for work but just to say vik re the poster - i've noticed that with F, he's always been keen to read/learn from posters and placemats (the ones printed with stuff i mean!) but i haven't done anything like that with poor A.

i'll look for a poster for her room today and maybe an animal placemat for her.

if anyone else wants to get similar then WHSmiths have great ones. F has the number and letter placemats and i think he learnt most of them from there initially.

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/01/2012 10:11

I want to get D a placemat purely for the fact he's making a mess of my table but the town I live in is shit limited so will have to wait.

Could go to asda they often sell things like that and is only 15 mins, in fact it's opposite lidl so might go in there and see what bargains they have.

tsc man that sounds so shit for you, i dont know how your functioning! is there any hope of any rest at any point? do you have family that can help? What did the docs say re C?
cake the poster has worked really well for all sorts of reasons, when hes being awqward and not having his nappy changes or pj's on i get him to find things on there and it calms him instantly and i put the nappy mat where he can see it and he finds stuff whilst im doing the deed!
Im gona say this and i really dont want you guys to judge but last night was really really bad with D, he woke crying at 12.45 and dh went in and settled him but he didnt go back to sleep just chatted and played etc for the next two and a half hours! i was watching him on the monitor downstairs whilst i was feeding F and hes just playing with his hands and talking etc. The thing is DH got really really annoyed and went in and really shouted at him, i dont even remember getting out of bed i think i flew into his room and interviened. It was horrible, D cried obviously but not for long and dh looked really really guilty and went back into his room, i was shaking, it did really shake me up i must admit. I discovered that D was wet so changed his nappy etc and settled him at which point he did go straight to sleep. I went into dh to try and sooth him but he was in a fowl mood with the situation so i left after a bit. F was up half hour later for a feed and then up for the day at 6.30. Fucking nightmare!!
I have spoken to the HV at length today about F and his bad tummy(grunting and straining for hours whilst hes supposed to e sleeping!!) and about D's sleeping (obviously i didnt mention the shouting) and i feel a little better bit my goodness its very stressfull right now.
I just needed to write it down and get it out of my head, DH is the most layed back person and never gets angry like that so he must have felt really really frustrated, and again i feel very responsible and think that theres something i should be doing to prevent it all but what???

vik and tsc sorry you're having a hard time of it atm. Just think when I have my second you'll be in lovely routines and I'll be on here tearing my hair out!

I'm v much looking forward to my dinner. I've just chopped up carrots, parsnips and sweet potato and marinated it in lovely herbs, garlic and oil to roast in the oven later.
I got the recipe from a cooking course I did at the surestart centre and it was lovely when we made it then. I cheated a bit on the chicken breast, it's a pre made sauce, stick in the oven type one but it's the veg I wanted to make sure came out right.

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 31/01/2012 18:30

I love roasted root veg dh. And in the summer I do roasted courgettes/peppers/cherry tomatoes/red onion regularly too.

Sorry you're feeling sad tsc. I know why you are, but it is A Good Thing so focus on the positives :)

Vik I am losing my temper more and more. I'm not proud of it but I have been struggling with W for almost 19 months now and don't know how much more I can take. He can be great at times...but other times I...well let's just say life aint fun. But sure start are really helping me atm and the boys both went into creche monday for an hour and three quarters, and W will go tomorrow and Thursday morning for an hour and three quarters.

Chulita · 31/01/2012 19:09

I sent DH into the supermarket while L had her vision screening - he had 3 things on the list: cherry tomatoes, yoghurt and bread. He spent £55. How is this possible? He food shops like no one I know, I did the fortnightly shop yesterday and it came to less than that!

dh that tea does sound delish! DH is on nights again so I had toasted teacake and an orange, stir-fry for lunch instead.

vik come the summer it'll have settled a lot more, just focus on a few months down the line and getting through it. I am so, so wanting this next little one, looking forward to having another boy etc but DREADING the next few months, totally, absolutely and utterly dreading them. I find these two full-on enough without throwing a newborn in the mix. Sometimes I think I'm an idiot for having them so close but other times I think that in a year's time it'll be great!

tsc I've found they throw inhalers around like candy these days. I've got one cos I've got chronic asthma but took S in with a long-standing cold and they gave him one, then a few months later the same with L, doesn't necessarily mean anything long-term. Hope C gets better soon. That's brilliant about the asthma team with F though, completely understandable you feeling crap about it but it should make things a bit easier/less complicated.

mlisc sorry things are so tricky, it's good that they've got creche to give you a break!
L was at nursery today so I just had S, he's so croupy sounding/snotty and minging that I stayed home with him...oh my freaking goodness, what a nightmare. I feel like he's just whinged and whinged, at groups he sort of gets sucked in but at home, while I'm trying to keep him quiet so DH can sleep I can't entertain him...argh!

Chulita · 31/01/2012 19:15

It was a v yummy dinner! Dh made me laugh though, he completely cleaned his plate then said afterwards 'i still don't know about sweet potato I'm not sure if I like it' Grin

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 31/01/2012 19:27

Shock I love sweet potato. Funnily enough my dh isn't all that fussed either.

Cake my diet failed before it started Blush I can't cut out all dairy, I just don't want to can't. And no potatoes is easy but no pasta too? I just set myself up to fail. Curry for tea tonight (but rice is 'ok' for me anyway so it's just the cream in the sauce that's naughty)

I am just going to try to cut out all processed food and cut down on bread products instead. That way I should avoid the sugar 'highs' and crashes that I must have and hopefull still achieve the desired results without denying myself things I like. Like cheese. And tea with a little bit of milk.

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/01/2012 20:45

I love it too mlisc it's so much nicer than ordinary potatos Grin

viksam · 31/01/2012 21:24

mylife i really dont know how you have coped this long, D was so tired tonight he just didnt want to play ball at all, no pj's no nappy no wash no teeth (actually his teeth had a really good brush because he was crying with his mouth wide open!!haha!!) It took me all my time not to loose it but i didnt want him going to bed upset, the hv said as much reassurance at bed time as we can give him is a must.
Right, off to start the night and dreading it!! Hope everyone has a decent night xxx
