Very good title Katz I was trying to think of one when I did last nights post, but I'm so wordy (why say it with ten words when you can use 100...) that my 'the one where mobile no longer means the toy above their cots' wasn't accepted

Have a very grumpy dd today 2nd tooth through in as many days and we are very definitely not impressed with the process, bless her...but medised is a wonderful invention ...better go and wake her for lunch, or she'll be even less impressed to discover she's missed a meal too

back later...x

tribpot · 06/01/2006 13:32

Hurrah - great title Katz! I like yours as well, tea - although poor old ds has never had a mobile over his cot anyway cos I am sure it would just keep him awake. In fact ds has no toys or anything in there, do you think that's cruel?

Hello and welcome Yummy,
SFX - Hope you sleep tonight. It is so frustrating lying there knowing you are going to be so knackered the next day!
Giddy - Poor dd1. Sounds like you have a wonderful doctor looking after you all which is very reassuring and totally what you deserve. What a lovely thing to say to you too. An emotional couple of days you have had all in.
Kat - Thanks for the new thread
Trib - DD2 has a few toys in her cot and they do keep her occupied when she wakes up in the morning but are totally ignored at bedtime and in the middle of the night. I put her in her cot during the day sometimes (while I have a shower etc) to keep her out of dd1's way so the toys are there for that time too, but totally NOT a mean Mummy. Quite sensible I would say. DD2 was totally unimpressed with her mobile and it has been taken off now as it kept getting in my way.
Please be impressed with my ingenuity (sp?). Now my microwave has gone I am warming dd2's food through by resting the bowl in a metal seive over the kettle with the lid off and then boiling the kettle. I was quite impressed with myself. Normally I would just give her cold food but today it was still v cold from defrosting when I needed it.
My friend gave me one of those mini food blenders and I have to say it has revolutionised my weaning and I am enjoying it again. I can just blitz up our left over veggies rather than cooking HUGE amounts so that the big food processor could puree it all. Much better for me. That and the fact that dd has worked out how to eat. Yay.
Have to go and serve up. Oh and had a GREAT night out last night with all my baby group friends. Ate far too much and dd2 was really good (I had to take her with me because of the feeding issue and non sleeping issues ongoing...)
Byeeee

sfxmum · 07/01/2006 13:45

hello junies i hope that the quietness is due to you all being happy and enjoying your families

all good here managed to have a morning nap, thanks to dh.
dd still waking up a lot but seemed less miserable.

popping out in a minute to the shops must stay clear of indulgent food.

katz - cheers for new thread , we will probably be having one in the not so distant future called something like - the one where they create havoc as they go

have a lovely weekend all

Skyler · 07/01/2006 20:10

HELLOOOOOOOOOO
Is there anybody there?????
Hope you are all having wonderful weekends so jam packed full of fun that you can't post.
Dd is now commando crawling forward and ate chunks of broccoli and carrot from my plate at dinner. Using all those teeth now you see.
That is the update from the Skyler household for today, so I am off to bed.....via dd2 who has just woken for another comfort/feed.....

MrsWednesday · 07/01/2006 22:11

How did you get your DD to go forward Skyler? DS2 is desperately trying to crawl but can only travel backwards, much to his frustration (and my amusement - he got wedged under a chair today).

Apart from his crawling troubles and another cold, DS2 is a pretty happy chap at the moment. His two days at nursery don't seem to have bothered him at all and he's eating quite well too. He had pureed roast dinner for lunch today and DH couldn't shovel it into his mouth fast enough

I've weaned DS2 off the breast completely - I tried to feed him on Monday but nothing came out no matter how hard he tried. Now I've got one quite sore lumpy boob (and one normal one). Not sure what I should do to make it better really so would welcome advice from you all.

Well DH has gone to bed early and it's my turn for the lie-in tomorrow so I think I will go and enjoy the peace and quiet with a glass of wine and my book. Before I go, can I tell you my proud mummy moment? Me and DS1 went to the supermarket the other day and as I was putting some apples in a bag he wandered off and returned to me with a big bunch of pink roses, saying 'these are for you mummy' . Bless him, I've been smiling about it all week.

Night all, hope all the babies sleep well tonight.x

Bubbaloo · 07/01/2006 22:25

Mrs W-aaaaaaaah that's so sweet of your ds.
Congrats on the crawling and to your dd crawling too Skyler.Ds hasn't started yet-sure it won't be long though.

Trib-ds also doesn't have a mobile over his cot.He does have an arch though which is virtually ruined and very bent.

Giddy-hope you got on at the hospital ok.Glad the not smoking is going well.I used to be a heavy smoker but gave up about 7 years ago(when ttc!).I now absolutely hate it,with a passion!
I'm also dieting and have lost nearly half a stone.I'm also finding it surprisingly easy at the mo.

Skyler-I'm glad you said that about those mini blenders.I'm in 2 minds whether to get one of those gadgets that chop, blend, grate, juice etc...I'm using a braun handheld blender at the mo but I tried whizzing up some kiki fruits the other day and ended up with black pips all over the tiles.Must get one!

Hope you're all having good weekends!

Bubbaloo · 07/01/2006 22:27

Kiwi.

MrsWednesday · 07/01/2006 22:29

Congratulations on the weight loss Bubbs, that's brilliant.

I've got a hand held blender and it is a bit 'splattery' but I found it easier to clean up the mess than wash out a big blender (I'm quite lazy ).

Now I really am going...

mcmudda · 07/01/2006 23:02

Good grief - how come all your lot are mobile??? Dd is 7 months this week and still not rolling! Ds didn't roll one way till 7 months and the other way took a lot longer. But dd isn't making any moves to move at all! She sits unsupported and has done since 5 months, but when she's on her back, she won't shift, despite coaxing.

Having read this thread and all the other updates I'm getting worried, so will ask HV this week I think.

Other than that dd is great, enjoying all foods except fish (hurrah - cos I can't stand it!). Well worth waiting til 6 mths to wean - we skipped puree and went straight to mash, which suited me cos I hate hard work

Started babysigning with her this week and it's all flooding back. It worked brilliantly with ds and he was signing from 8/9 months and speaking at 12mths - really recommend it.

Finally dropped the 10pm dreamfeed now dd's on 3 meals a day and she's out like a light from 7pm -7am. SO why do I still feel like a zombie during the day??

Dd's also got a chest infection atm and is dosed up with banana flavoured antibiotics - she's been barking like a dog for 5 weeks now poor thing . Hopefully this will put and end to it.

What else? Still no teeth, but she had her first dental check up this week!! Her gums are fine!

teabelly · 08/01/2006 08:24

Morning ladies

McMudda - hello Please don't worry about dd not being mobile ds didn't sit unaided until he was 8 months, never rolled, crawled reluctantly at first at 11 months, never cruised around furniture and finally walked unaided at 16 months...now we can't get him to stop rolling, stop running and keep still ...oh yeah and at 2 years he still only had about 10 words...at 2 years 2months he had over 100 and now, well now I want to know why children aren't fitted with an off button!!

Trib - no not a mean mummy dd loves her mobile, but ds hated it...made him cry whenever he saw it until I worked out what the problem was and removed it.

Mrs W - aw bless don't they just melt your heart sometimes? You could just eat them, couldn't ya Sorry can't help with the boob thing didn't feed dd or ds for long enough...hope it's better today (feels odd asking after someones boobs!)

Skyler - well done for dd eating big food...you realise now she'll always want some of yours, he he he...in the coffee shop on friday dd actually shouted at me until I gave her some of my biscuit (one of those italian ones you dunk in coffee) and then the cheeky little madam didn't give it back, instead she scoffed the lot in a nanosecond ...must be good for her teething - well that's the excuse I gave her...no-one takes my biscuits twice and gets away with it!

Bubb - fab weightloss - I'm struggling at 1/2 stone to get back to prepreg weight and it's just not moving...unfortunately I think that's what I should be doing instead of spending nights being lardy on the sofa

Giddy - hope dd1 gets on ok at the hospital, keep us posted

Have definitely decided we need a new bed...no now stop those naughty thoughts...ds joined us at 2am after a nightmare, followed by dd at 5 and I spent the rest of the time stopping myself being the one that fell out leaving 3 in the bed... Hope you all have a good day today, off to a friend's ds's party this afternoon, so should be lots of fun...p.s is it bad form for a mummy to monopolise the bouncy castle?

tribpot · 08/01/2006 09:12

Tea, hee hee imagining you on the bouncy castle. Seems reasonable that you set a good example to the little ones.

MrsW ahhhh at your ds1, and hurrah for ds2 crawling backwards! I think it's quite common for them to learn to go backwards first (well, they want to go forwards but end up going backwards, not quite the same thing) - my nephew was the same, got really cross that he couldn't go towards the Christmas tree, only away from it.

Mcmudda, we're starting Sing and Sign on Friday, looking forward to it as I've heard from a friend that it can be really useful.

Re: weaning, I'm still confused about how starting at six months really makes any difference, ds is unable to manage anything more substantial than puree anyway. I am getting quite fed up with the whole weaning thing, although just today he seems to have got suddenly much hungrier, like more than one bottle at a time hungrier. Perhaps this is the moment we've been waiting for!

Bubb well done on weightloss, and snorting at kiki fruit.

sfx - have finally managed to watch Serenity! I must be the last person on earth to see it I reckon. However, I didn't like it after all that Prob be six months before I get to watch another film, ho hum!

We had my oldest bro and his family round yesterday, at MrsW's excellent suggestion we went to a local pub with a Wacky Warehouse in so his boys could run themselves senseless whilst we had a pleasant beverage or two And MrsW apologies again that we didn't get to meet up on Friday, next week for definite!

Bubbaloo · 08/01/2006 09:57

Mcmudda-Ds also isn't mobile, and he still can't sit unaided yet.He used to really fold in half which he still does but only after a couple of minutes now.I'm still enjoying the fact that I can leave him somewhere and know he'll still be in the same place, although probably the other way round.

MrsW-That's a really good thought about cleaning a bigger blender.I never thought of it but certainly makes alot of sense.

Tea-Bouncy castle sounds like fun.Enjoy the party!

Trib-Bless you little nephew crawling away from the tree.Must've been so frustrating for him,but a blessing for your brother.

2Happy · 08/01/2006 10:25

Nuts. Wrote a long message last night, then hit the wrong key (ctrl instead of shift) and lost the whole thing. All of you can heave a sigh of relief then

Anyway, Giddy glad your paeds appt went well, and really hope a bed has come up/comes up soon for dd1.
Skyler - don't know how you manage without a microwave, don't think I could cope! We have a hand-held thingy too - another thing I grumbled at dh for getting, another useless electric gadget, but now completely rely on it for purees
skyler/tea/trib - funny how different they are isn't it? My ds just loves his mobile, and often won't sleep without at least music on.
Mrs W - ds1, roses, made me well up just reading it! Bless!
mcmudda - oh I've heard of baby signing, it sounds great. I'd love to go, but doubt there's any near here. I'll ask HV.
tea - I can't get that last 1/2 stone off either. But I think the biscuits don't help me. Or chocolates. Or ice cream...
at all the crawlers. ds keeps wanting to but the best he manages is frantic bum wiggling in the air when he's on his front! But I was watching dsis's 10month old crawling and cruising yesterday - a taste of what's to come and you know what? I don't think I'm going to be in any rush for him to learn! He gets into enough trouble as it is. On Thursday, I put him in his bumbo for feeding him, popped to get his lunch out of the microwave (see, Skyler?!) and when I came back he was on the floor . I felt like such a bad bad mummy, but he wasn't hurt at all. Now every time he's in it he tries to clamber out. Mini-Houdini
Well I'd better get ds his breakfast. He woke up at 6am today, but fell asleep during his bf, and only just woke up again - dh and I snuggled in with him and had a lovely lie in, all the family together .
Hope you have all had a good weekend!

troublesmummy · 08/01/2006 11:36

Hi. Just managed to catch up. I really would not worry about the not mobile baby. Mine is a lazy bones. He can roll from his back to his side and thats it. Can't sit unaided for longer than 10 seconds, and is not remotely crawling yet. However, he has decided that lying down is not 'fun' enough for him anymore. He either has to be propped up on the sofa or in his Bumbo.

Went shopping yesterday. Didn't even go near Next and he still screamed through most of my shopping trip. He USED to fall asleep in the pushchair, but not yesterday. He was so tired, but refused to go to sleep, so in the end, dp had to hold him whilst we walked round ASDA.

Thanks for the new thread Katz!!

How was everyones first week back at work? Hope it wasn't too dreadful. I've been back about a month now and i'm quite enjoying having adult conversation. Miss ds terribly though, and feel bad for getting him up so early. Have to leave the house at just gone 7, so his whole routine is really messed up.

Anyone got any suggestions on what i can give ds? I have to admit, i've been a terrible mummy and have been giving him jars (only started lunches 2-3 weeks ago). I really don't want to, but i lack inspiration. Apart from giving him veggies i'm clueless.

Hope all the babies and mummies are well

tribpot · 08/01/2006 11:51

2Happy - I think they say once they can free themselves from the Bumbo you shouldn't use it any more, guess it makes sense (or at least not use it when you're not keeping an eye on them). My ds is just about there as well, alas.

He likes having music to get off to sleep but we are using the attachment from his travel cot for this, just sits on the side of his cot and thus doesn't have anything interesting to look at, otherwise he'd never go off to sleep.

Some info about Sing and Sign here , although there are other variations on this theme.

Also you can do it at home with book/DVD - I'll be getting this one as my friend's dd is in it

Lua · 08/01/2006 12:25

Hi everybody!
All is well on the Lua household. I am like you troubles, I miss the kids and feel a bit guilty, but I am happy to be back to work and have some time to collect my thoughts and talk with other adults
Baby night boot camp is goin reasonably well. DS is now going all the way to 4-5 AM without feeding. I think I'll keep pushing a bit more, but I can live with that for a while!

Tea - How was the castle?! I'm

MrsW - How sweet of DS! Did he paid for it though?
How long has it been since you bf ds2? If you did cold turkey, you might just be engorged or have a blocked duct? If it was just that it got overly abused (this does sound weird...) I'll just give some time and maybe some hot compresses to help along.... Hope you feel better soon!

Mcmudda - nice to hear from you. I saw your name on that really fun thread last night, and was wondering how you were doing. I would take your DD not moving as a blessing! DS has to be currently tied someone before I can do so much as get a glass of water!

I was wondering if anyone with an older DS and a new DD would be interested in swapping some clothes?! I had some beautiful dresses for DD that she barely used, and other things that are just to pink and frilly for DS...

Hope you all have a good sunday!

Skyler · 08/01/2006 13:18

Hello
Good to see you all back. One handed typing as feeding dd2.
dd2 has sussed her beaker hooray. I didn't encourage any crawling as I know the problems start now, however dd1 and dh had great fun jiggling dd2's toys just out of reach and making her reach for them. I think dh put his hand behind her feet too to give her something to push off to get the idea. Obviously I am proud of her, but part of me does long for a non mover as there suddenly seem to be so many small things around that she mustn't have and makes a bee line for.
McMudda - Great to see you. I wouldn't worry about the non moving either. You could ask your HV to put your mind at ease but I would say that it is all in the 'normal' ranges, whatever they are.
Trib - I agree weaning is a pain but from my experience my dd1 suddenly got to grips with lumps totally out of the blue. One minute she refused them totally and the next couldn't get enough. She stopped eating for five days inbetween and then took to eating chunks of carrot and sweet potato straight from the fridge .
Mrs W - The huge amounts required for the kenwood food processor really got me down last time. This mini processor is fab. I was lucky not to have to pay for it but I would def buy one if I was to start over again esp if it was my first baby. I have a hand blender too but this is easier and cleaner and easier to wash up. I love it.
I bought the Joseph Garcia speak and sign book last time and did it for about two weeks .
My aunt has bought me the Makaton video, adult book and childs board book of signs for Christmas so I will give it a go again. A sing and sign group would have been great, I just lost interest doing it on my own with no feedback.....you need patience and that is not my strong point.
Mrs W - Bless your ds with the flowers, what a sweetie. I hope you bought them for yourself.
Bubb - Well done you on the weight loss.
Trib - I haven't seen Serenity....
Right this is a crap catch up due to reading the thread being interupted several times and not taking notes. I have to go now and sort dd out.
Are all your babies on three meals now? DD isn't at all and I am wondering if I should give this a bit more focus. I have been doing the different taste things but don't give her a huge amount (prob 3-4 cubes total in a day....). Perhaps this will help with our sleep problems...

2Happy · 08/01/2006 16:12

Well after this morning's post can I now do a proud (if slightly fearful) mummy moment? we have backward motion
ds had just had his nappy changed and suddenly started pushing himself backwards! It's the beginning of the end isn't it?!
And thanks v much trib, am going to check out those links straight away!

muma3 · 08/01/2006 16:35

hugs to all that know me and hi to all that dont xx
just popped bk to compare babies lol
no teeth
no crawling , was 7 months on 2nd of jan and feel that she hasnt really changed alot in last month , other 2 girlies are fine we all had a great christmas and due to improving my appearance this year i am finding it extremely hard to type with these nails
hope you are all ok and had a lovely christmas and new year too love me xxxx

sfxmum · 08/01/2006 17:22

hello all catch up while dh feeds dd.

my laptop conked out so access to net a bit restricted, dh monopolises pc. why do i have a husband who hates telly and sport?!

mrsW - lovely gesture with the flowers, did he learn it from dad?

trib & skyler- i have serenity somewhere in the house but have not quite got around watching it, life is just not the same with the baby
about cot toys, dd has a cotbed and jhas some teddies at the bottom and a mobile which she loves.

signing - so many of you have talked about it and it has been on my mind. dh is very very against it 'new fangled faddy ways' still we are both fluent in makaton as i use it for work everyday and he used it too on his old job, not sure how it compares to baby signing, still because its almost second nature i sort of do it without really meaning to dh ' oh no what are you doing' i tend to ignore this challenging behaviour.

bubb - way to go on the weight loss

skyler - clever dd you got there, it seems second children are less hindered by inexperienced and fretfull parents and just get on with it.

tea- new bed indeed, when we moved to new place last march we bought the biggest bed we could find that still fitted in our bedroom, its huge, still room for another child

2manny - congrats on the crawling! still no sign here

lua - glad work going well, not sure i can find proper adult conversation at work...

mumma3 - nice to see you happy new year

troubles - i think most people here have been loosely following annabel karmel books, i have found them useful for ideas. now i just take account of what i am not supposed to give her and all else is up for grabs, the aim is that by 12 months or so she is eating the same as us.

crikey long post sorry

ps and where is eym? hope you ok

muma3 · 08/01/2006 17:32

i wish my fella hated sport and telly its all i know now bloody footie matches (chelsea fan

teabelly · 08/01/2006 19:06

Just a quick catch up before I put two very tired kiddies to bed

Bouncy castle was fab, but for a while I was the only adult bouncee...still I had fun and know no shame...

Muma3 - welcome back - glad to hear you had a good christmas...I keep meaning to have my nails done, I'm the only person I know in RL who doesn't and feel abit slobby because of it! still not sure how well it goes with changing nappies and any other fun baby tasks

Troubles - sfx is right just work towards giving them what you have, so now he could try things like shepherds pie, maccaroni cheese, pasta bakes...just try and limit the amount of salt and sugar...Annabel Karmel does some good recipies according to my friend...or if that doesn't appeal do like me and give them jars quite happily and guilt free

Skyler - not sure how much the cubes are, but dd is having a small amount of porridge or 1/2 a weetabix for breakfast with most of a bottle of milk. Lunch is 1/2 a jar (7mth size) and a diddy yoghurt, and dinner is another 1/2 jar and a fruit puree...this is just going to prove that my dd is a piggy isn't it so I won't mention the rice cakes she snacks on sometimes too!

SFX makaton is what my sis uses for her eldest and I think it's a simplistic version of this that they use in baby sign...you know letter M for mummy, letter D for daddy, thumb up for good, crossed fingers for wait etc, so I'm sure if you did that for your dd it would be fine. He he he at using it for your dh...our best one was when niece was 2 1/2 and saw some firemen, so tried to do the hat shape (crest on top) to show that they were firemen, unfortunately her arms were too short to reach above her head and she ended up doing something more universally recognised as a d*ckhead sign the men's faces were a picture, and the phrase 'you're a right fireman' has commonly been used in our family ever since

Katz - hope dd2's christening went ok, if we ever get access to the yahoo pics you'll have to post some

Right best go - whingy kids not tolerant of mummy on the pc catch up later, x

MrsWednesday · 09/01/2006 11:02

Woo hoo, have had my desk moved so can now get on Mumsnet without being spotted by quite so many people!

LOL at the fireman sign story Tea, very amusing indeed. Are you suffering today after your bouncy castle exercise?

Good to see you again muma3. Your DH must be a very happy man at the minute then, being a Chelsea fan? No teeth either here (well I've got some but DS2 hasn't).

Thanks for enquiring about my boob welfare! I'm still sore and lumpy after a week of not feeding (and I had cut down quite gradually too) so may take a trip to the doctors to get it checked out. I'm finding it a bit difficult to massage the affected area now that I'm at work....

Troublesmummy, on the food front I've started pureeing up stuff that we eat and giving it to DS2. He's had lamb casserole (mainly pureed veg with a bit of gravy), roast chicken dinner, shepherd's pie, vegetable soup with a bit of baby rice stirred in to thicken it. I have to cook blander stuff for DS1 anyway (gave him chicken and noodles that was a bit too spicy for him and he ran around the kitchen, bright red in the face and retching) so it's not too much hassle to make a bit more for DS2.

Good tip on putting hands behind the feet so DS2 has got something to push against, will try that. On second thoughts, why am I encouraging him to move?! Well done 2happy baby!

Mcmudda, great to see you again. Doesn't sound like there is anything to worry about at all, she's probably just happy sitting up and watching everything going on (DS2 only just mastered sitting up at Christmas).

Lua, how do you intend to move that feed? DS2 does the same, waking between 4 and 5, guzzles down a bottle which of course fills him up so he won't take any at 7. I'm starting to fantasise about having a full night's sleep, without DS2 (or DS1 for that matter) disturbing me. Last night DS1 got into our bed at 12, then at 4 DS2 woke up, took an hour to get back to sleep, by which point I was wide awake and unable to nod back off again.

Right, better go and pretend to be busy (or order some new clothes from Next Online...)
