Thanx Katz - have just had a look at all gorgeous photos. Must try to get my head round how to do it myself!

Bubbaloo · 14/01/2006 22:41

Sfx-Hope you dh is feeling a bit better now.Did you end up doing anything nice?

Giddy-Wow,you have had a busy day.I've been in all day today, supervising my FIL's DIY skills.Glad your dh is back home.Dont think I'd cope with a week on my own.

TRib-Glad Toby is behaving himself when out and about. It's such a pleasure when they're all sweetness and smiles.I can't quite believe how many people actually stop to talk to you when you've got a baby-I was virtually ignored before!
Also glad your dh is coping well with his meds.
Cornflakes are a great suggestion btw.I'm intollerant to wheat, gluten and yeast(aswell as other things!)and tend to live on either Cornflakes or Rice Krispies.

Hi Art-Welcome aboard the Junie thread. When was your dd born?

Katz-We've a fab lightweight buggy. It's the Maclaren Ryder but it does have two handles instead of a bar.Very easy to push/steer though.

All is quiet so far tonight.Ds had his bath and went to bed at 6.30-so far so good, fingers crossed.

Cratchit · 14/01/2006 22:52

Trib - Apologies if TMI. DS is BF and v v sicky and always has been but issues at the mo are: he's been even sickier; v clingy, could be separation anxiety; general crankiness; slight ear pulling; and finally eczema. The latter has been making him scratch tons and tons for 6-8 weeks as I try and treat it, but partic on his head and then various patches on his body. Have asked dr and have been through aqueos (disastrous), olive oil (helped but then stopped) and now E45 junior which seems to have really moved it on. Am reisting Oilatum bath which we were given as am desp not to be on meds this early unless really necessary. But skin patches seem to ebb and flow and wondered if it might be food/allergy related for him. Moisturising twice a day is keeping it under control'ish. It seems from reading all the threads here that anything eczema based is a v individual detective job, so thought I'd ry a gnetle amateurish proces of elimination. He's breastfed btw.

So I feel like skin has become a bit worse since solids started so cut everything out a couple of weeks ago apart form fruit and veg and then started reintrducing. At the mo think it might be dairy or wheat but not sure. I like giving him porridge in the ams as feel its heavy in his stomach, like thicker formula principle, but current packet porridge has wheat and dairy. It does seem to help with sickiness normally. Thought Oats would be a good way of cutting out the wheat and seeing if it's the diary? have ktz recipes if you want me to post them...Though tried oats this am in microwave as directed and it looked so revolting and stodgy I had to chuck it!

Cornflakes is a great idea, can I just use plain old Kelloggs, whizz them up and use purree/water instead of milk.

Sorry so logn - useless woman that I am.

Hi all and welcome Art btw!

Cratchit · 14/01/2006 22:56

Hey Bubb - cross-posted, sorry. Very jealous of leaving your DS with your Ma, not sure I'd trust mine, she's a bit bonkers! Supervising your FIL doing DIY - at your house I trust. How fab. Hope the sleep stays on track tonight, I'm like you DS went down at 6.30 and had first wake up at 10, could be silent now till 5 if I'm lucky...

Any advice re my too-long food post below would be most welcome! Rice crispies sound good, can they have them at this age do you think?

Bubbaloo · 14/01/2006 23:00

Cratchit-Oilatum is very good btw.I've got very dry skin and find it works a treat.Makes the bath water look like milk though.
I'm sure you could use puree or water on the cornflakes, infact it's probably really tasty with puree.

Bubbaloo · 14/01/2006 23:03

Sorry Cratchit,now I've just x posted!
Don't know about the krispies as they don't seem to go as soggy as Cornflakes.I'd also be a bit nervous about choking on them.I suppose you could whizz them up actually, providing you haven't a handheld blender like me-they'd go everywhere.

Cratchit · 14/01/2006 23:26

Will try whizzing them all, have a news handlblender and am doing everything in it! Well apart form the cat food! Do you think I'm being foolish about Oilatum? I ignoratnly and arbitrarily didn't like the idea of the petroleum or whatever it is in it and also DS drinks the bath water by sucking sponge and/or flannel madly, and feel I'd have to stop him if I put Oilatum in. Whaddya reckon? Also is it the kind of of thing you can use from time to time and it makes a difference. So once/twice a week rather than in every bath? How often do you use it ad how much? Have i asked too many questions?

What are you feeding DS and has he inherited your intolerances?

Bubbaloo · 14/01/2006 23:43

Cratchit-Of course you're not asking too many questions.Like any of us,we have to ask questions if we don't know the answers.
I don't have Eczema but do have very dry skin.I use Oilatum every now and then and find it really helps.I believe they do have an Oilatum Junior, which if it's been approved for babies, then I personally would try it.That's only my opinion though but if you don't feel comfortable using it then don't.There may be some others things you could try.
My intollerancies I've only had for the last few years(that I'm aware of)and I have been trying lots of different foods with Oscar.I was in 2 minds whether too,but he has had gluten, wheat and cows milk(I'm borderline with this) and so far everything has been ok.
The only food I'm not too keen on giving him on a regular basis is banana as after he has one he tends to be constipated for days.
At the moment everything is "up in the air" due to teething and about the only thing I can get him to eat is yoghurt-he can't get enough of it.

Cratchit · 14/01/2006 23:53

Brilliant thank you. Think I'll giv Oilatum a try but maybe every so often rather than every day. I'm sure it's junior as the Dr prescribed it. Am v jealous of your DS liking dairy, I've a sneaking suspicion that diary is no good at the mo, tried him on Petit filous (is that sacriligious on MNet and could smell it in his sick three hours later - tmi . Don't know if he was poorly or doesn't like diary but it's happened before with butter in sweet pot mash and an Ak butterut squash heavy duty butter recipe! What yoghurt does your DS like?

Bubbaloo · 15/01/2006 08:06

Ds was eating the Petits Filous but I changed it because of the sugar content.
He's now having the Yeo Valley fruit tumble ones which apparently have more fruit and 50% less sugar than other yoghurts.
They're also twice the size and he happily eats 2 a day.
Let me know how you get on with the Oilatum-he'll soon pull a face if he doesn't like the taste of it on his flannel.Ds also sucks his which is usually full of baby bath.
Had to laugh the other day-he wouldn't let go of one of ducks in the bath.We tried to take it off him but he cried,so he ended up taking the duck to bed with him.

sfxmum · 15/01/2006 11:43

good morning junies

art - welcome!

dd slept wonderfully last night i am glad to report. she is a very active and curious child, due to her newfound mobility its becominmg a bit of a struggle to change her nappies, never still and always trying to make a quick getaway.

dh was mopping around all day yesterday and today seems to be going the same way, unwise little old me commented on this and good sulkyness, albeit low leveloh dear!

someone asked about cereals with gluten but no milk products (bubb?) hipp organic banana porridge fits the bill.

dd occasionally has dryish skin but no eczema, the only thing i use is oats in the bathwater, and it works for her.

sorry not proper catching up, trying to get family to pop outside at least to organic shop for some goddies.

hope you all have a nice day

muma3 · 15/01/2006 13:26

JonahB · 15/01/2006 19:02

Bubb, 50 bras!!! OMG, I have SO SO much buying to do now?

Mrs Wed, glad to hear the boob issue sorted itself out and that work is getting easier.

Giddy, absolute respect to you ? I don?t think I?d cope nearly as well as you seem to do with everything.

Skyler, hope you had a lovely anniversary weekend. What a fab surprise!!

EYM ? happy birthday for yesterday. Hope you enjoyed your pampering.

Trib, I also have a fantastic boss, especially in light of the fact he hasn?t got kids of his own. I have told him that I am stopping at 5pm (I used to work/speak to him until about 6:30pm) and if he wants to contact me, he either does it before 5pm or after DS has gone to bed. So now he is ultra-considerate, and always checks if he ever calls me after about 4:30pm if I?m okay to talk. I?ve made no secret of the fact I?m going to try for another and despite that, he is still trying to sort me out a job grade rise and has been fighting my corner really hard. Hurrah for good bosses!!! I have got some mates who have been treated abysmally by their companies and line managers, so I am counting my blessings regularly.

Everything?s fine here. The working/life juggling thing is still quite a struggle, but we?re all happy. DH LOVES looking after DS 3 days a week, which is a total relief. I?m loving my job, it is SO good to be back in work again, even though I miss my little fella (that?s DS, not DH ).

Hope you are all well, have a good evening?

teabelly · 15/01/2006 23:35

Evening ladies

Had no time to catch up lately...trying to sort out a second part-time job as money just not enough from the nursery...but will probably have to be an evening jobby to get around childcare costs so will have even less time to catch up on mn!!

Cratchit - sarnies so far are dairylee, cheese (extra mature stolen from mummy ) and ham stolen from ds but not overly impressed with this. Also toast mostly has just butter but she did steal my marmite one this morning! Oilatum - fab please try. Used it for ds who had shocking ezcema as a babe - even better if you get it on prescription as to buy it over the counter will set you back a tenner! If you like you could also try 'infacare' which is also very good and only £2 Creams are very important - moisturise everytime you remember until you see an improvement and then twice a day. The Doctor can prescribe a moisturiser too - ds (and dd) use 'doublebase' which is fab, but I think Giddy uses another similar one that is equally as good. DS improved when I cut out cows milk and moved him to soya at 7 months (and that's when his colic stopped too!) We gradually moved him back to cows milk from about 18 months onwards, and he's fine now. His ezcema does flare up in the winter - but this is due to the central heating's wonderful 'drying out' properties

Katz - buggies, hmmmm. Well the one that folds down to nothing and is super lightweight is the Quinny Zapp, fab looking, but only one seat position, forward facing only and two handles rather than a bar - but having said that I can put 3 1/2 year old ds in it and push it ridiculously easily with one hand - any guesses what I'm going for next . Multi position lightweight is the micralite, but again forward facing only, doesn't fold down anywhere near as small as the Zapp but does have a (very mini) bar handle. Loola - nice buggy but heavier than the two above...not sure what else is small and light except some of the McClaren's ??

Trib - good luck with dh and his reduction in painkillers

Art - welcome aboard

Uh oh dd awake better go and give last bottle or she'll have the house up will attempt a further catch up tomorrow - night night x

muma3 · 16/01/2006 12:28

hi mummies,
dd3 doesnt seem to like having solids anymore. dont know where we have gone wrong but i thik it may have something to do with her teeth coming through . me- tired tired tired tired very tired . been up with dd1 all night she has a really bad cough and kept waking herself and me up and dd3 so not alot of sleep being had in this house .
quite boring at the moment so report back soon xxxxxxxxx

muma3 · 16/01/2006 12:32

my dd3 has ezema and the doctor has given her dermol ? worth a go ?
i also use infacare works for us
anyway, thats all from me xxxx
hugs to all x

Skyler · 16/01/2006 13:34

Hello
Flying visit.
We have Oilatum for dd's baths and Epaderm (?) for the dry skin all on prescription along with the metanium for dd1's dry patches and dd2's nappy rash. All work for us. We also had Unguentum M but that did nothing for us sadly. Do try it.
If it is any consolation I was very worried about using the hydrocortizone cream (0.5%) that the docs prescribed for dd1 and so only used a bit at a time but this dragged the whole thing out and so the next time I blitzed it with the cream and it was gone very quickly and so I in fact didn't use it for as long. HTH and makes sense
Hello to the others hope you are all ok.
Mama3 - dd2 will not let the spoon near her while teething. It has to be finger foods (chunks of carrots, brocolli, cauli, toast or rice cakes etc) or nothing.

Evening everyone.
Been away too long and missed faaaar too much for a proper catch up! So as far as I can remember:
EYM - very happy belated birthday
Art - hello and welcome!
Skyler - happy anniversary
Trib - I got that signing book/dvd you suggested, so now dh and I are flaping hands around like we're trying to direct traffic Asked HVs if they knew of any baby signing nearby - one had never heard of it, the other said "why don't you just talk to him?"!! Hmph.
Bad sleepers/grumpy babies - hope everyone's has been better and I really hope those who needed sleep got some.
Eczema - are Junie families especially prone to this or what? Aqueous cream is only any good if you don't have sensitive or broken skin (so a bit pants in eczema then!) - there are too many additives so it stings in loads of people. Oilatum is good, so is doublebase, and aveeno. I also find emulsifying ointment good - use it as a moisturiser, to dilute steroids, as a soap substitute and dissolved in the bath. Oh and if using steroids, use ointments not creams - the creams rub in better but they have preservatives in (or the cream'd go off) that people with eczema can be sensitive to. So there you go: eczema according to 2happy

Thanks for the birthday wishes for dh, he had a great day. Then we had a long weekend in Aberfeldy which was lovely, though a little frustrating looking at all the mountains and not being able to climb them (thought ds might object to nappy changes at 3000ft in January...). But, bad mummy, have already decided we're going back when ds weaned for a sneaky weekend!

Oops dh home, better not let him find me logged on AGAIN

Art · 16/01/2006 20:03

Evening all,

Bubbaloo - dd born 19th (Fathers Day!).

Also has v. dry skin - not eczema - just very scaly and itchy. We use Oilatum in bath although it makes it very slippery for everyone else and moisturiser, but havent seen much improvement. Can't be food reaction tho as dd still not bothered about anything except milk!

Dh working tonight so do not have to 'book a slot' to log on. Going to wash up now before Northern lights.

chocolateshoes · 16/01/2006 20:25

Hello everyone! Didn't realise this thread existed - hope I can join in - my ds was born on 22nd June. Like yours Art, not mobile. Sitting up really well, but not interested at all in rolling over.

No teeth either!

What are your lo's favourite toys at the moment?

Art · 16/01/2006 20:47

Welcome chocolateshoes-

Forget the expensive xmas presents - Tv remote is the favourite at the moment, soft ball with chime in the middle and thomas the tank wooden trains(when ds lets her touch them)

Really am going to wash up now ...

Bubbaloo · 16/01/2006 21:06

Art-Your dd shares Oscar's birthday. He was also born on Fathers Day.

Chocolateshoes-Welcome.The 22nd is also a great day-Our wedding anniversary.

chocolateshoes · 16/01/2006 21:32

by the way ds also has dry skin - can't work out if its a reaction to food or not. Seems a bit random & often after bf. Hmmmm. Found that Aveeno cream works really well & is available on prescription

Cratchit · 16/01/2006 22:19

Skin issues - Bubb, Skyler, 2Happy, Giddy,Tea, Muma3 Thank you, thank you to all for skin advice. Went to Gp today for something else and got more Oilatum, E45 bonjela and Calpol all on prescription Fantastic. Partic thanks to Tea for prescription advice Giddy for such amazing detail. So the the first rule is to MOISTURISE!

Weaning - Our sickiness has cleared up a bit, he's still a v sicky babay but not completely bonkers like last week. I'm hoping that means wheat and gluten are ok afterall. Not brave enough to retry dairy yet will give it a couple of days and concentrate on skin issues instead. Finger foods that we're doign are going well, but am due now to try Tea's sarnies.

JonahB sounds like you're doing well and have a totally amazing boss, and he's a bloke too. Wow! Is that blokisdt sorry.

Bubb - love the picture of your DS sleeping with his duck. we're big fans of ducks here too, just not quite that big!

SFX - LOL with the nappies, our changing times are like a bad wretling match! I lose.

Tea - an evening job. Blimey. thinking of you.

Giddy - Thanks as above. Fresh bread sounds wonderfeul. have spotted somewhere tonight a suggesiton for chocolate bread... think it was on food or recipes and the threa is called simple pudding ideas or similar. if you make it can i come and taste!

Hello to Art and Chocolate Shoes.

Our favourite toys are rattles and crinkley fabric books, plus things with sounds including a duck that quacks. DS giggles like mad. Also loves a brightly coloured flip flop (99p from tescoes in the summer never worn but bought for hospital bag, DS was early!). Oh yes the link chains I use to attach toys to his car seat/buggy. He prefers them to the toys thyemselves and rattles them like Jacob Marley!
