Giddy, we've made no progress at all on solids because everything seems to make him throw up. We've tried mixing in baby rice but not helping much. It's hard to work up the energy to tackle this as well at the moment, plus we eat a lot of things like casseroles that I can't just mash up for him cos of the stock cubes (too much salt).

Just a quickie as I'm meant to be washing the kitchen tiles.
Trib-Thats dreadfull that the doc never mentioned ds's fertility, especially like you say,you were pg at the time.
On the stock cube front,I've bought some Kallo low salt ones from Holland and Barrett.I eat alot of their stuff anyway due to all my intollerances and find they are really nice.Ds had roast chicken and veg yesterday and I'm trying him on cottage pie today, both made with these cubes. He's even got our leftover curry in the freezer so that should be interesting.

Giddy-Sorry to hear with your probs with the dd's.Must be extra hard with dh away. How's the no smoking going?

Well I actually had an awful evening.Shouldn't really complain as it's never happened before, but ds refused to go to bed.
He went up as normal around 6pm and I managed to have dinner, then all hell broke loose.
He screamed and screamed the place down and wouldn't stop.He ended up really hot and sweaty so I took his pj's off, turned the heating off and even took his boots off.He ended up downstairs in his travel cot for a bit, then I thought I'd try another bottle. He drunk the lot but carried on screaming when I tried to put him to bed. This went on forever.Dh came in around 9.30 and gave him yet another bottle which he also drunk, but wouldn't go to bed.He even had some teething gel and Calpol in between.
We went to bed at 11ish and he was wide awake in with us.We ended up with the travel cot in our room and he slept in there all night.
Haven't got a clue what all that was about-hope he doesn't make a habit of it.
I'm having my hair cut tonight. It's finally stopped falling out and is now growing so fast.I normally have it done every 5 weeks, but it's only been just over 3 weeks and it's a mess already.

Skyler · 12/01/2006 11:42

No time really. Just had to say sorry to those of you having a tough time, esp you AmyJade.
Trib, I do lots of casseroles too. Kallo make low salt organic veggie stock cubes and I use these and just puree portions up for dd2. How about couscous mixed in to give it a bit more substance. So so sorry you are still up against it on the reflux thing. That is so unfair and dreadful. It is hard enough to find the energy to prepare them food at the best of times sometimes let alone of they are ill all the time. I take it personally if dd refuses something let alone throws it up . Take care. Sorry no help on the childcare thing either...someone will have wise words though.

Bubbs, poor you! Hope this is a tooth and not a sign of outright rebellion after all those months of sleeping beautifully!

Giddy, brilliant progress on the not smoking. Keep it up!

Thanks to all for the kind words. I already use Kallo stock cubes but not the low salt ones (at least if these are not just the standard organic veggie ones that is). Will definitely have a look out for them. Sky - cous cous = wheat.

I still feel though that we've got to get through the puree/single veg or fruit stage to be sure nothing is going to upset him before moving on to proper food and it just seems so daunting. Plus we don't really eat during the day anyway - it causes dh too much pain so he only eats one meal a day, i.e. dinner after ds has gone to bed. Consequently I tend not to eat breakfast or lunch if I'm here, I only have lunch if I'm at work. So ds doesn't see us sit down to eat food anyway (which I know is bad) and there is no 'normal people's food' to mash up for him either.

Also dh has no enthusiasm for weaning, he tends to assume anything ds ever has wrong with him is a sign he has inherited dh's problems. (So you can imagine what his response is to the reflux). As I am at work for at least part of every day normally, no weaning ever gets done when I'm not here. Because it's such a lot of work I just can't manage to get it done.

Cratchit · 12/01/2006 12:28

Mornin'. Feeling exhausted, meant to be doing my tax return but Ds seems to be teething and is v v demanding, poor little fella. So a nightmare on all counts. DH ended up having birthday bangers and mash yesterday with bottle of pink cava.

Love all the pics will try and put one up soon - thanks Katz your so clever .

Trib - With food we have, on and off, similar probs. I'm convinced Baby Rice and too much fruit purees not necessarily together do it ... I'm now doing packet porridge for brekkie with mkuch smaller amount of fruit puree and concentrating on veg at other meals, virtually always with lots of mashed potato. Seems much better, but far from eradicated. Too much water doesn't helpo and he loves it, first he wouldn't take the bottle, now he does but it causes diff prob Aaggghh! Up shot is he still gets quite sicky some days. Am toying with gluten-free...Will be interested to hear any of your thoughts. Sory to hear about the Doctors and your DP.

Skyler/Bubb - thanks for Kallo tips will pop out for some today. Skyler hope all's going ok with move.

Giddy well done on everthing, but partic the smoking. Have you felt smug satisfaction yet, when that bit comes it's really lovely?!

Bubb - Us too, last two ngihts, ds gone to bed at 7 woken up at 12 and then won't go back ... until he comes into bed with me and then sleeps like a ...baby! He's very clingy at the mo too, I have wondered whether this time, for us, it really is teething.

Tea - I love the pics of your two. Am feeling inspried by your sarnies for DD, gave DS toast this am and he LOVED it. So what do you put in your sarnies?

Hi Amayjade and mama3.

EYM - How you doing?

Best to all and everyone - x

PS New Years Res is to try and check my posts for typos before rather than after! How'm I doing?!

Cratchit · 12/01/2006 12:39

Sorry trib x post and forgot about your intolerance and wheat etc issues. sorry.

Bubbaloo · 12/01/2006 12:40

Giddy-We did actually go out last week looking at car seats.I did ask about the Britax Isofix one as it's rear and forward facing but was told that although Oscar is big he still has loads more room in his seat and that we should really wait til he's a bit older or sitting unaided before we get the next size up.Also the Isofix one is very expensive compared to others and if we wait a bit longer,we can get just a forward facing one. They actually(Mothercare)asked what car we've got and they recommended the Britax First class seat.I don't really understand setas too well but was told that it was a very good seat and once the base is fixed in,the seat in secure by the harness,so you don't need to use the seat belt.We probably will get the next one around March time which is when I go back to work. It'll also make it alot easier for my mum as she can't really lift ds in his carrier at the mo.
What's everyone else doing about the next size up seat?
Great news on the fags.I was a really heavy smoker for years but just decided enough was enough one day and that was it.I think when you really really want to do it,it's so much easier.
As for dieting,I'm always on a diet and have got loads to lose(about 7 stone!).Must admit I'm not finding it too difficult at the mo and have lost a bit already-lets hope it lasts.
Cottage pie was a nightmare lunchtime.Ds thought it would be quite funny to blow raspberries after each mouthful. He did actually like it but I couldn't bear the mess so I swapped it for chicken and peas,he he!
Have just put him in his cot for his afternoon nap,so I'm off now for some corn cakes-yum.

Bubbaloo · 12/01/2006 12:42

Sorry Trib and Crachit-x posted.I'll be back later.x

tribpot · 12/01/2006 12:44

Cratchit - no worries, it's dh who is wheat intolerant, I can eat ANYTHING!

hello all

bubb - sorry you having a hard time with ds. my dd has been doing something similar, over the last few weeks she has often, been hard to settle waking up about 3x between 7 and 11 and then a couple more times, at least, before morning. good thing is its easy to settle back to sleep. but it means my supposed relaxed evening is no more.
i must say i have very low expectations of having a full night sleep in the foreseeable future

dd has been changing a lot, before she would need the breast to fall asleep for naps, but she is mostly, not doing that any more just cuddles up sucking her thumb and drops off.

trib - we have been using marigold powder as usual, the low salt one.
what a dreadful doctor, so much for treating the whole person.

giddy - good going on the fags, it is praise worthy giving up is really hard.
cratchit - am with giddy bangers and mash sounds lovely

amyjade - thought of you yesterday morning while listening to the news. i expect this is a very difficult time. take care.

dd has been wiggling her bum in the air but no forward motion yet

hope everyone else is ok

muma3 · 12/01/2006 15:15

hi mummies ,
dd3 is being a complete nightmare . extremely demanding , starting to wake again at night at her teeth are giving her greif at the moment . i feel totally exhausted and i feel like screaming just lately. i have a friend to stay at the moment , and although she has just split from partner she has been a real big help . dp is getting annoyed though that as soon as he walks in the room i ask him to take her so i can have 5 mins peace, he says i should let him get in and have a cuppa first . most days i feel like collapsing , tbh i dont know where i get my energy from to keep going .
diet going great - have lost 5lbs in 4 days really pleased with myself.

giddy dont beat yaself up about quitting , your doing great . i smoke but decided to lose weight first . trying to give up to much at once tends to mean you will fail on all so...

have dd2 at home with stomach bug , her whole school seems to have it , friends dd2 has had it too so i cant be sure where it came from but still , poor thing is always ill . weak immune system due to being on anti-biotics alot as a baby (chest ,ear, throat infection )now has severe asthma
anyway must go dd3 crying AGAIN
love me xx

muma3 · 12/01/2006 15:17

does teething gels really work?

MrsWednesday · 12/01/2006 20:36

Muma3, I've heard good things about some homeopathic teething powders that are supposed to work but I don't know the name, sorry. I find the gels don't stay in place.

Trib, sounds like things are a bit much at the moment. Sorry the doctor has given you so much to worry about. It really does sound like some form of childcare might be an option, unless you could formalise something more regular with your babysitter? I would give you details of the nursery my DSs go to but I know you've said that this probably wouldn't be right for your family. Just don't spread yourself too thin, if there is any way you can take the load off yourself then it's worth considering because it sounds like you've got to do everything and there just aren't enough hours in the day!

Giddy, I don't know how you do it, I really don't. Hope you enjoy your night off tonight and that you really enjoy your lie in tomorrow.

Bubbs, hope you have more settled night tonight. Must be something in the air, DS2 has been hard to put to sleep for the last couple of nights too (not tonight though, phew).

Amyjade, have been thinking about you a lot, especially with the news this week, so it's really good to see you.

EYM, how are things going? Hope you are ok, thinking of you.x

Cratchit, I'd like bangers and mash with pink cava too please. Happy birthday to your DH.

2Happy, belated happy 30th birthday to your DH. Ahh, 30...seems to long ago for me

Sfxmum, hope your DD surprises you and gives you a full night sleep very soon. Tonight in fact!

All ok here, both the boys are in bed, the wine is open and the boob is no longer sore!!! Jonah, funnily enough 10 days was about how long it lasted for me too. Reading your message certainly put my mind at rest. Had a better week at work as well, I'm getting a bit more into the swing of things and have got a few interesting things to do too so things are definitely looking up.

Anyone hear from Welshie? Hope you are ok.

Katz, glad the baptism went so well. Did Scraggy make it?

Off to have a look at the picturs on our new site (sorry my DS2's picture was so big but I don't know how to resize them )

Cratchit · 12/01/2006 21:33

Blimey two posts in one day - what can it be? It's not friday night (when DH always works late). So it must be Tax avoidance, not paying it just wtrying to work it all out by Jan 31st!

So, thanks Mrs W, giddy and SFX for bangers and mash support. Feel less guilty now, thank you! Giddy pink cava, or rather I should say rose, was from a high street shop, Ill check which one if you want. V reasonable at 6.99 and it was good and dry. DH was partic impressed at my budget birthday treat attempts because I'm trying to spend less since I'm still at home with DS, have no desire whatsoever to start working again (Am self employed which makes it v tricky) and saved maternity money is running out... oops

Bubb - Oh no new car seat - I'd forgotten. We've got a Maxi cosi at the mo and he still fits it ok. Will start thinking and watch with great interest. My next biggie is the high chair and I've changed my mind about that now. In light of the above I might even just go to Ikea and get one of their cheap ones and stuff everything else!

SFX it does sound like maybe we're all having something similar with the babies. Wonder if it's teething or developmental, or are they the same anyway? I was involved in several threads when DS was around 20 weeks and was really grisly then too. I kind of decided it was a phase because so many were doing it at the same time. Doesn't make any easier tho does it. I started worrying he has an ear infection tonight. I've read too much I think - self/ds diagnosis v dangerous all the time. He is on the Calpol again tho.

Mrs W - thank you. Glad the boob's better and sorry to hear you've had disturbed nights too. More vino will help I think!

Cratchit · 12/01/2006 21:35

Sorry Muma3 we're using Ashton and Parsons teething powder just form the chemists. No idea if it works really... It's just a white powder and makes me feel like I'm giving DS cocaine!

MrsWednesday · 12/01/2006 21:43

Are babies allowed wine?

I've managed to swig half a bottle of wine since my last post . That's the problem with finishing my working week on a Wednesday, the Friday feeling starts early...

Cratchit · 12/01/2006 21:55

My Ds loves wine, but not as much as he likes brandy ... Naaah!

Glad to hear about your half bottle Mrs W, I'll make youf eel better because i'm an absolute shocker with the old booze. I gave up smoking just before I got pregnant with DS, in fact I think that's why I got pregnant (watch out giddy!), and it's a real crutch of an evening. I have a terrivel terrible thirst! I drank most days all the wy through pregnancy, never more than a couple of glasses and am drinking pretty much as normal and I'm still Bfing.

MrsWednesday · 12/01/2006 22:03

I've read lots of reassuring words on Mumsnet about the quantities you can drink whilst bfing, so also didn't moderate my intake. Now that I've finished bfing I'm just doing it without worrying about it (and if there was an emoticon for a slightly scary red wine smile I'd have used it here)

hi again everyone!

Thanks for all your reassurance about mobile babies

Katz - love the photo site - have posted a photo of dd.

Still so impressed that you all manage to reply to everyone individually. You must keep notes or something. All I can do is give you all many best cyberwishes to you and your families - you're a lovely bunch
