Tom not rolling yet.Is a bit of a pudding and is nappy free very rarely so that may be why. Trying to potty train dd today, not enjoying it much. I really don't know whether she has grasped the concept. Keeps peeing all over the place!

Tried to do potty training with my dd3 over the holiday. She has a bladder of steel as she refuses to go onto the potty or loo but hangs on until naptime! Don't how she manages with the amount as she drinks lots of chocolate milk!! Good luck Pooka - let me know if you have any tips.

Don't envy the potty training - ds was terrible - he peed on our front room carpet more times than I care to remember! He'd often would hide behind the sofa and pee! I hope dd will be better - ds was 3 and a half before he fully mastered it!

Sad as I've taken the decorations down! Always makes me feel strange - thinking about the future, the past etc - strange!

Mummyhill - hope you're feeling better with your tummy bug thing Elise is not keen on drinking water either. She'll have 10mls and then stop + cry when she realises it's not milk!

I thought Elise might be teething, what with the gnawing of fists and dribbling, as sometimes her cheeks are quite pink, but I can;t seem to see any signs of any little teeth, and no nappy rash. Who knows though!

How's everyone's diets going? I've lost 3lbs so far this week woo hoo! *sigh, only another 25lbs to go

happy new year all, finally!! I was determined to start this year positively!!! ds has had a bad asthma attack over the xmas period, dd2 is back into hospital on mon for 5 days intensive physio, and now dd3 has bronchiolitis and is very poorly, having trouble breathing. How much s**t can one family take. i am destined to crack up sooner or later.

not really much to tell mummyhill...Noah's been doing really well apart from he's had a sore throat and chest infection. He started to stop sleeping through last week so waiting till monday and will start weaning him...advice from HV! that's about all to tell...had a lovely borthday DF got a babysitter and took me out was lovely. First time EVER that we haven't had the baby with us, guess thats what happens when you're pregnant and meet someone. we've started booking wedding stuff now as well

Ok just to warn you this could be a long post.

NLTM - Glad you are ok. at your night out but I don't trust anyone with david yet (maybe a symptom of my PND) except my mum but she is ill at the moment and Mil will have DD but not David as well even if I could let go enough to leave him there.

Pooka & Milward - We cheated, we put dd in pull ups from 18 months and encouraged the potty at the same time. It did take till she was 30 months for her to decide that she could do it all on her own without the special pants. However once she decided no more special pants or nappies day or night we had very few accidents till David arrived and now we usually have 1 wet bed a week.

Reagrding teeth - DD started teething at about 4 months but we didn't see any till she was 7 months. They all came through 4 at a time with a couple of weeks break in between each lot after that. Unfortunatly it really knocked her about we are hoping that David will be better at cutting them.

Found a solution to the problem of trying to cut myself in two. DD's school has a lunch club. They let me drop her off with her packed lunch at 11.30 this morning so she could play and eat her lunch then they escorted her to her class. It only cost £2.50 for the privledge but was well worth it for the stress free afternoon.

Well he had his imms and has been a mare ever since. I finally got him settled about 3/4 of an hour ago. He weighed in at a whopping 18lb 1oz. The HV supprised me and actually agreed with me when I said that I though he might benefit from early weaning. She is comming out to see me a t home next week to see how I am getting on.

My pshyciatric nursing team have decided today (over the phone) that they don't need to come out to me if the hv is comming in and have told me that I have their number and to call them if I need anything. Yeah great thanks so much for the support.

Tummy finally seems to be settling down so i will start the diet tomorrow hopefully the detox will have given it a kick start and my tummy will of shrunk so as long as I stop eating when I start to feel full and don't stretch it iyswim then maybe I can start to shift the 4 stone excess I have been carrying round for the last 6 years. Off course this needs to be combined with a bit of exercise and the correct level of thyroxine otherwise I don't stand a chance.

Lovely sunny morning here this morning - don't think it's going to last though...

Good to hear that your tummy is finally settling down Mummyhill.

Beatie - Charlotte has a bath about 6:30pm, then a feed, clean nappy and into bed by about 7ish. She generally goes to sleep by herself, but not always. I dream feed her about 10:30pm, and she sleeps until somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30 (although she does sometimes wake once during the night - she did last night, but she sleeps through more often than not). Took a little while to get this routine established, but it works like a charm now. After her feed at about 7:30 she is usually up for an hour, then goes back down for about 2 hours. The rest of the day is much looser, although she tends to work on a pattern of 1 hour awake, 2 hours sleeping, 3 hours between feeds. She doesn't seem so keen on sleeping the afternoons, although I find if I take her nappy off and let her kick on the floor for an hour (which she LOVES!), that will wear her out enough for her to have an afternoon sleep.

Charlotte is also chewing her fists and dribbling a lot, but no sign of any teeth yet. Am dreading the teeth as she has taken to clamping down hard on my nipple with her gums, then pulling off and smiling up at me, which makes is very hard to get angry with her (but it's pretty painful)!!

Off for our first lot of imms tomorrow (apart from BCG) - didn't start them in the UK as they were due the same week we were flying out, and thought I might as well start her on the NZ ones. Have been a bit slack about organising the appointment (am using Christmas and dd's cold as an excuse...),but a nasty advertising campaign for Meningitis B vaccinations has spurred me into action.

We picked up our new (well, new to us, not brand spanking new) car yesterday, which was very exciting. We ended up spending a lot more than we intended and actually buying what we wanted for once (usually head takes over heart and we compromise). Feels very naughty!

Just re done edingburgh scale on line and have gone from a score of 12 when initially assessed by hv to a score of 18. The idea is for the score to be getting lower as I am ok acording to the mental health team.

mummyhill - you must let your hv know your score has increased and get them to better support you. Are there any other counselling options locally? - I saw an ex-midwife and the counselling service was part funded by local churches - that way they only charged £10 an hour - although this is a cost its much cheaper than the norm - and you are in charge of it rather than waiting on them. Just an idea - take carexxxxxx

Jaydeelady - Sorry to hear about all that you have on your plate. Hope something gives soon.

Mummyhill - Sorry to hear about the mental health team letting you down. It's lame of them to throw the ball in your court for you to contact them. It sounds like you need ongoing support from them.

Kiwifruit ~ thanks for your response about sleep. You wouldn't think I'd been through this before 3 years ago. I've forgotten so much from first time round.

My problem at the moment is that I have 4 problems. DD1 isn't sleeping well, Alice wakes too frequently in the night, Alice fights daytime sleep and ends up having small catnaps or one big one - so I never know where I am with her, and the biggest problem is getting Alice to go down in the evening to sleep.

How long did it take to implement Charolotte's bedtime routine? Did you start off feeding her and putting her down awake? Did she cry? What did you do when she cried? Feed her more? Rock her? leave her?

Has anyone implemented a bedtime routine without including a bath?

We give Alice a bath with DD1, every other night, and that bath is way before Alice's bedtime anyway... which I think is about 8pm but can be an hour either side of that, depending on when she last cat-napped/had a marathon sleep!

Who's still exclusively breastfeeding? If so, are any of you having sleep problems? I can cope with the night waking, I just need Alice to have a consistent bedtime, as close to DD1's (at 7pm) so I can regain my sanity in the evenings.

mummyhill - sorry that the support isn't forth coming. Hope you're ok. The lunch club sounds good. My dd3 loves having a lunch box to take with her. Good news that your tum is getting better. Being sick with having to look after kids is difficult. Thanks for the potty training tip xxx

How's your thyroxine? My doc told me to go to 87.5!! I didn't ask how I was meant to cut the tablets for this!! So now I take one 50 tablet, one 25 and one half of a 25.

BTW I only feel happy leaving Conrad with DP, I've avoided anyone else baby sitting as much as possible - will have to 'let go' more next week as I have a Childminder to take him whilst I do Thursday lectures. (she's lovely and already in my circle of friends.)

Conrad had his second lot of imms today - No temperature today and a happier baby altogether - sleeping like the proverbial now
Had hilarious last feed with Noop diverting Conrad by appearing over my shoulder with pink sparkly deelie-boppers on!

Beatie - I'm exclusively breast feeding - Conrad doesn't seem to need to be 'topped-up' before going into his cot. His routine (if you can call it that) doesn't always include a bath... sometimes I leave a bath out altogether (theres a limit to how grubby a 15 week old baby can get in a day!) other times he baths with me in the morning or daytime (whenever I get the chance for a soak!)
He's just ready for his bed by 7-7.30 maybe later if I'm really busy or earlier like today
He will cry as he goes down sometimes - but soon realises he's where he wants to be and pouffe! he's out for the night!
He doesn't have a daytime routine any more than I do! he naps but rarely has a real sleep in the day.

It's dark and cold here as well.

Bad night last night dd had 2 nightmares and has woken up with a raging temp.

David is really fractious as well.

Looks like i'm in for a day of it!!!!

Beatie - I'm still exclusively b'feeding. Tom has a bath at 6.45ish, then feed and sleep at about 7.30ish. Have a confession to make, though. Have NEVER done bedtime for both on my own. So dh plays with dd while I bath Tom and if it's my night to share a bath with dd, I go straight into the bath with dd after Tom has ben fed and dh just sits with Tom til he's asleep.
He wakes maybe 2 times max between 7.30pm and 7.30am (which is amazing when compared to dd at the same age), but is really easily settled.
Am seriously considering ditching potty training. dd is 30 months, and I KNOW she should be trained by now, but I just can't bear feeling stuck inside while I wait for the magic connection between pee and wet knickers to click. May just try the route of knickers at home and trainer pants when out for a while - though I know that GF frowns on that (but then again - since when have I been a GF devotee - like NEVER).

Kiwifruit - doesn't Charlotte sleep well in the daytime! Conrad really fights it and will always have a little scream before allowing himself to sleep - so unlike his bedtime cry.

Pooka - I did pull-ups with Noop when potty training, I thought they were a blessing and made the trasition from nappy to panties effortless... don't worry if dd seems slow in 'getting it' I'm sure you'll not end up with a 25yr old nappy wearer!! 2 1/2 is still weeny in the scheme of things!
Don't mention the GF woman - I get a muddle of her wisdom and the demon nanny Jo Frost visual in my head (scary!)

Good news! I've got my own column in a magazine for 4 issues this year! Sadly not paid, but it's my name in print and a step in the right direction!

Beatie - my DD's bedtime routine doesn't include a bath (I try to bath her at around 4pm because she's just too tired if I leave it any later, and only every other day). She has a feed around 6.30ish and then I put her in the cot awake with her mobile going. She coos for a bit and then just falls asleep. Wasn't always like this, she used to scream for an hour at bedtime, but fortunetely seems to have got out of that habit!

Kiwifruit - at your hot sunny days! It's so dark it's like night-time here!

Mummyhill - you need to contact your mental health team or HV and let them know you need more support Thinking of you.

By the way, Elise is 16 weeks, but i can;t seem to get her to drink out of the cup. Should she be doing it by now? She has it in her mouth but just cries cos she doesn;t seem to know what to do with it. Have tried removing the valve, but it comes out too fast.

Hi cabe - no she passed the tummy bug to me in the first place.

Pooka - don't start me on that gf woman. One of the girls from my toddler group is following the contented little baby thing to the letter with her first and arrived in tears this week because the child is far from contented and has started losing weight. Needles to say we all told her to throw away the book and go with her instincts.

Well couldn't take the cries/ screams from dd any more so I borrowed a double buggy off my friend over the road cause DD was in no fit state to walk to gp's after being up half the night. Ear infection this time round which means more antibiotics and loads of calpol. PMSL at gp though she was telling me how I could give her calpol then 2hrs later give her ibuprofen and repeat calpol 2hrs later repeat pattern till child has a normal temperature. I sadi no I can't and she said yes you can and I then asked if she was advising me to give ibuprofen to an asthmatic and ould she make a home visit to take her into hospital if she had a sever attack at which point gp went bright red and appologised.

LadyL - which magazine?

I didn't give dd a cup, we used a bottle (naughty mummy) but david will drink out of an avent magic cup. We tried every cup on the market before we found one he will use though.
