Have you been to the library, PC? Just checking up on you!
Hope the dentist went ok, milward. Was about to tell my dentist where to stick his practice just before christmas. He won't take on DDs even though DH and I are both registered as not taking on any new NHS. They're babies FGS! DH has private cover for all of us with work but don't want to give our dentist the business. What???...nose...face...sharp implement...noooo!!! Unfortunately he seems to be the only dentist taking on private within a 30 mile radius. Ofcourse, I got toothache last week only to be told that useless dentist is on hols until 24th Jan and I can't see his partner because it's been more than 15 months since my last visit [naughty emoticon!]. Teeth, who'd have 'em?!
Noticed there's a thread been started by someone who was due june 05 and is now due june 06!!!! Argh! Any volunteers to start a Due Sept 05/06 thread???!

ooops! Forgot to say:
PC - V about barcelona. DD1 goes to nursery mon and tues. I know she loves it but like you say, sprinting out of the room to the strains of "Mummy HUG" really does rate a full 10 on the guilt scale.

We went to the library and paid fines.

Forgot to see if there were any books about Barcelona [silly emoticon].

And managed to lose my bank card between paying for petrol and getting to the car [really silly]. Have cancelled it now.

Got passport photos of Alice and an application form so will do that very soon. DH needs to renew his passport too.

You know, when I first had DS I thought "this is the greatest - I could do this again!" - first time mum feeling and all. But 3 months later, he is still adorable but a lot more demanding. Think it will be at least 2-3 years before #2 (ie if there IS a #2!).

BTW - has anyone been away on hols with their bub yet? We are looking for somewhere warm. Am thinking some self-contained place somewhere in the Canary Islands but must admit am pretty nervous about first "family" trip away. Pre-baby we travelled a fair bit and like to explore and actually see things/places rather than the resort-type holiday. Any ideas or advice from anyone?

HeyBaby - We went to Spain in November. It was ok took travel sterilizer as Rachel has a bottle. Although I have family there so if we had any problems I knew they would sort us out!

Sex - wots that then?!

Report
mummyhill · 09/01/2006 20:11

Boots do a pack of travel sterelisers, it's a realy strong plastic bag with sterelising tablet in that you can hang off the back of a door. They come in packs of 7 and work out about £1 a bag and take up very little space in your bag when travelling.

Report
mummyhill · 09/01/2006 20:15

Take a baby sling/carrier. Steri bottles are great with the cartons of formula for going out and about with. If you use a backpack rather than a changing bag you can still do all the things you did before as long as your/dh's back will take weight of baby up fron and or back pack on the back.

I use a babysling to get on & off planes with little one. Have hands free for other kids & hand luggage.

Back to school today!! back to looking proper (realised my trouser zip was undone today but only after I'd got home from the morning school) Yikes!!!

Your library fines have reminded me I've got books due to go back tomorrow Thanks PC

Milward - I've got a yen to have another already... we're not taking any precautions as I'm breastfeeding, didn't realise it could take as long as 18months before my cycle could begin though, probably a good thing as until Noop's finished year 11 and I've completed my degree we can't join dp in Watford anyway, just have to wait and see what the future holds

PC - How long are you going to Barcelona for? Feb would be a good month to get away in... just as the winter really starts to drag with no sign of spring yet... don't you just love the British weather?

Hi Jaamy

I've managed to drag the ironing basket from under my bed but I've not tackled any yet... Must get it done tomorrow before the next wash loads build up and it all gets out of hand.

Night night everyone xx

PC - really jealous that you're going to Barcelona. We went last Jan as my christmas present last year and had a fantastic time. It's fairly easy to get arond except that there are loads of stairs on the underground so take a sling if you can. Guell (Sp??) park is fantastic for kids and there's loads else to see. We found that we couldn't really get kids portions so just went for tapas for DS which he loved.

Heybaby - we went away with DS when he was 4 months and it was great. LIndams to microwave sterlisers that are little bags and v light you can use then about 20 times. Only prob is they are only big enough for two bottles so may find cold water bag steriliser easier. Most places will provide cots and high chairs and if you go quickly you won't have to worry about food for bubs. Worth getting a lightweight push chair for the plane/holiday as they are less likely to get damaged plus easier to carry about.

DS started pre-chool yesterday - stayed about 30 mins yesterday but managed to get away with a quick kiss and hug today. He's growing up fast...

No 3?.... no way!!!

Jaamy - at your dentist! Hope you get sorted out with one. I might have to go back as tooth hurts when I drink warm drinks!! hope it will settle down though.

Cabe - good luck with your ironing pile. I've loads as well - hopefully will get through it today - but for me it's the sorting & putting washing away that takes the time.
Some mums when they bf have their cycle return quickly - with me it just took longer as I bf on demand. Just depends on how you react to the hormone prolactin that works to product breastmilk but at the same time surpresses ovulation.

pc- barcelona sonds great - would love to visit that city.

rumba - good luck with school. My dd3 cried yesterday & today. Don't know why as she has a great time.

Heybaby - if you really want a hol where you don't just sit around by the pool all day, what about italy?
We took DD1 in 2004 when she was still little enough to not require any kids clubs or much entertaining. Managed to do a lot of site seeing - vesuvius, pompeii, amalfi, etc as well as a bit of time by the pool. But bring a baby sling as hilliness means that you won't be able to get the buggy everywhere. italians LOVE children they are welcome everywhere and we never felt that we were annoying anyone. Also as there aren't many facilities for children, you'll find that the hotels aren't overrun with them and you won't feel like you're in the middle of a creche!
Last year, with me being pregnant and DD1 a bit more demanding, we chickened out and went to Centerparc (longleat) going again this year in june but to the sherwood forest one. Probably also squeeze in a couple of trips to Ireland to visit relatives. Where's everyone else going?

Barcelona - Wonderful we went there two years ago for a city break. Must confess that we left DD with grandparents though.

We went to eurodisney last year and dd loved it.

This year I think that unless my parents will drag their caravan to the site of our choice we will not be having a holiday unless I can make a fortune on ebay, win the lottry or something similar.

Cabe · 10/01/2006 11:37

Morning!
I can't afford a holiday at all this year but dp has threatened a visit to his relatives in Austrailia... With his work schedule and my lack of enthusiasm I can't imagine there will be enough effort expended to pull this off though!
I realised I'm very much a home-bird last year when I spent 3 weeks in Cyprus - I didn't enjoy it much as I found the attitude towards women (without men in tow) was appalling... slimeballs... When they didn't get a positive reaction from me they started chatting Noop right then and there

dp loves travelling to warm climes and does short breaks to go diving - I like driving hols and visiting friends in Scotland! I'm sooo adventurous!

Milward - thanks for that afraid I've not really educated myself on the hows and whys of breastfeeding and firtility, just getting on with it and grateful I can - I'm breastfeeding on demand too, Conrad's feeling better now as he's stepped up his feeding and woke at 3 last night hugely hungry .

Hi everyone

Alice has been waking a lot in the night. I'm frazzled. I hate January - I always feel down in Jan and Feb. I wish we had a sunny Feb holiday to look forward to. I'm trying not to feed Alice everytime she wakes in the night and instead help her get back to sleep without the aid of me. Sometimes it works.

We have a big family holiday in Spain (Javea)booked for August, courtesy of my father. My brother is going too so there will be 6 adults, 4 children (6,3,18 months and 10 moonths) and my 16 year old cousin who is not being takn along for babysitting duties but will be a welcome extra pair of hands. We'll be in a villa.

I'm not sure holidays are holidays when you have young children in tow (a crawler no less!) but a change of scenery and sunnier climes are always welcome. Saying that we went to Barcelona ( PC )with dd1 when she was 16 months old and we had a great time.

I'd like to go away for a week in the UK with just DH and the two girls but we're restricted to school holidays so we'll have to see if we can get a reasonably priced cottage somewhere during school hols. I'm not holding my breath.

We have a tent and enjoy camping but with young children, the weather has to be good. And my good humour only lasts for a few days in a tent.

Glad that people think Barcelona is good .

I haven't been on a city break for ages so am looking forward to it. Glad we're not taking DS though as I don't think it would quite be the same (I know that Alice will have her own agenda to, but at least she won't get bored (I hope)).

I am hoping not to wean until after that as it will make travelling easier.

Alice has her third injections this afternoon . Oh well, at least that will be it until MMR.

Alice also waking in the night. She did sleep through for about 4 nights over Christmas but not again since [tired emoticon].

Haven't weighed mself for a while but think I am still getting thinner .

Yes, Simplyred - we stayed in sorrento - lovely, isn't it? Good luck at fat fighters!
Hope your mouth gets better soon, milward. You really need your hot drinks in this weather My mum managed to get me in at her dentist on the premise that I was staying with her. Lovely dentist though it did turn out that he knows my (younger) brother - how old did that make me feel? No seriously considering registering privately with him, even though it's 25 miles away, just because he seemed really attentive and didn't charge me a penny - I only had an infection.
PC - hope the injections went ok. Abigail had her 2nd ones yesterday and was smiling away again after the initial shock [angel emoticon]. The practice nurse does our injections and hates making all the babes cry so she was ever so happy to end the session with a happy baby.
Had to go back to the baby clinic this pm. Went last week and since Abi had only put on 4 oz since beg of december there were lots of questions..."is she feeding ok?" "are you eating ok?" (i'm still BF) "are you getting enough rest?" No but what mother of a near2yo and new baby does?? SO have been feeding Abi like a woman possessed this week and she has put on 2 oz. Back to see the weight police again in a couple of weeks. FGS, I'm no expert having had just one other baby but if I was a first time mum they would have really frightened me!
Cabe, if you enjoy driving round Scotland then you go for it! Australia very tempting, though, if you have the time, money, energy,etc...! V of relative in Oz. All my family are in Ireland and that's not very good for getting a tan!

Jammy- we did look at Sardinia but too cold for me! At least at this time of the year. Now looking at the Canary Islands - have borrowed some guidebooks to see what there is to see but seems to be the only place short haul that is >15 degrees!

PC - BA are having sale on flights to Barcelona at the moment .... £69 or something?

Cabe - Oz would be GREAT! Not sure about the relatives though .... Might want to wait a bit however. I heard that it was 44 degrees in Sydney on New Year's Day. I love the sun but that's a bit TOO hot even for me!
