Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

Thanks for the recipe tips. Dh is going through a soup phase at the moment so I'll try the lentil and bacon one. The minestone soup was delicious the 1st time I made it, but rather disapointing last time.

Where are you off to Bagpuss (sorry if you've already said...)?

Bagpuss30 · 03/03/2006 15:38

Centerparcs - Whinfell forest - for about the 8th time since having kids Grin. I promise I will do something more adventurous one day....

Isn't there an expression - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Hope you have a brilliant time.

mrsdarcy · 03/03/2006 18:31

I like the sound of that Hugh f-w book Bagpuss. I've got some of his other books and really like them although I find it hard to get beautifully fresh ingredients round here.

Bagpuss, I will definitely be up for getting together over the next few months. Belo, I'd love to meet up. Let's think of a good central point so the 3 of us can meet together.

DD definitely has a lovely little peg of a tooth, and another on the way Smile. They are v cute.

Eulalia · 04/03/2006 22:30

Congrats on the tooth Mrs D:)

Belo - did your dh make it back ok?

Hope you have a great holiday Bagpuss.

Had a brilliant day today. Made two cakes in the morning. First one I did and then ds1 did the 2nd one as he wanted to make his own. He managed really well. Then we all went into the garden as it was beautiful - lovely strong sun and picturesque snow. We made an igloo - well just the walls as I couldn't do a roof. dd made 'snowcastles' with a bucket and spade. I put ds2 into the car all wrapped up and the window wide open so he could get some sun. I will upload soem photos.

Schools were still closed yesterday and Monday looks unlikely which will mean a whole week Shock

merryberry · 05/03/2006 18:08

wow, is it still snowing Eulalia? it's like spring in london in the daytime. mind you i am admiring it from bed most of the time, poor old woe is me, i have a weird dry chest infection - bronchiolitis i reckon. having a baby is not good for your health, going to all these virus ridden playgroups when you're not sleeping soundly! got to get up and at it tomorrow though as dp back at work.

congratulations on the tooth mrsD! we want some soon, our young man is struggling with the teething now. ttfn

Eulalia · 05/03/2006 22:34

MB - ooh hope you are better soon. Sounds nasty. Yep we are still knee deep in snow although at least no more has fallen. School is closed AGAIN tomorrow.

As promised \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=152432&stamp=060305222634#3208998\here is a pic of me in our garden} and

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=103186&stamp=060303221104\also one of dd in the snow}

mrsdarcy · 06/03/2006 10:25

Gorgeous photos Eulalia Smile.
It's snowing here but not very much. We haven't had more than a couple of centimeters.

We've got a builder booked in to rip out our old kitchen and knock down walls, general chaotic things. DD likes to throw her food more than she likes to eat it so we will have a lovely couple of months throwing food round the garden on sunny days, and round the sitting room on rainy ones.

Poor you Merryberry. You are having a tough time aren't you? My DH was ill all the time during DS1's first year.

Hope Bagpuss is having a good holdaiy. We always miss the first day of our holidays as DH has work to finish off, and he always gets loads of work calls whilst on holiday too.

merryberry · 07/03/2006 18:24

ah thanks for putting up those photos, they are lovely Eulalia. MrsD, I'm looking forward to life in the garden this summer as well. A friend from NZ came and saw the place and said 'now you can hose your kids down in the evening like we do at home'. It's given me this mental image of NZ hardiness that will stay with me for ever:)

My teething trooper has got over his three days of pain and sleeplessness - I got a whole 5 hour stretch of sleep last night and my symptoms have miraculously improved. Poor little love had given himself blisters on his knuckles and fingers from sucking so hard at night, but he wouldn't take any other teether. Still no sign of the offending teeth though. Hope he gets these first ones over soon.

Have a friend in from Oxford shortly, so need to go peel potatos to add to the fiction that this is a house of good cooking. Now, where shall I hide the pizza menus on the pin board?

Belo · 08/03/2006 11:01

MB, your poor little one. Have you tried teething powders? I find them much better than the gels. I do feel like I'm giving dd2 drugs though as I empty the wrap of white powder into her mouth......

Dh made it back from Scotland on Friday night. Hurrah! We unfortunatly didn't have any snow. It was a lovely weekend down here and we spent Sunday gardening. Eulalia, your photos are brilliant. It looks like it must have been great fun. But I'm sure the novely wore of after a while.

MrsD and Bagpuss it would be great to meet up at Easter. I'll see when you're free nearer the time.

Nothing exciting to report here apart from dd2 is absolutely gorgeous.

Eulalia · 08/03/2006 12:52

ds1 got back to school today! Hooray. Snow is melting a bit but the 6ft banks on the side of the road will take weeks to go. Catch up later - am all behind with having the last 8 days disrupted.

hoxtonchick · 09/03/2006 20:01

hi all

hope everyone's doing well. dd is perfecting her pincer grip by pinching me.... owwww. she's banging things together quite merrily & cut her 3rd tooth today. she's still on the brink of crawling but isn't quite there yet.

nursery's going well so that's a relief. i'm exhausted from all the rushing around. 2 days a week does me in, i don't know how people who work full-time manage it.

our hot water has been broken since sunday & is finally mended. the children & i had a bath together to celebrate & i'm about to have a shower! i never thought i'd be so pleased to be doing the washing.

Eulalia · 09/03/2006 20:33

dh found this last night and its hilarious. \link{http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/331/7531/1498?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=spoons&andorexactfulltext=and&searchid=1141935921926_20427&FIRSTINDEX=0&sortspec=relevance&resourcetype=1\The case of the disappearing teaspoons: longitudinal cohort study of the displacement of teaspoons in an Australian research institute}. Merryberry you will appreciate it.

DiamondsAreForever · 10/03/2006 11:53

that's hilarious! I wonder whether there's a similar study into the correlation between washing machines and missing socks...

merryberry · 10/03/2006 22:12

The Xmas BMJ is an joyous institution :) I love that.

Sounds like it is white goods and plumbing attrition on this board. Both my dishwasher and SHOCK HORROR washing machine are now out of action. I don't think the landlords will cope with the trauma. I can't bear to tell them.

Just watched a great film from last year - the jacket - if anyone finds themselves stumped next time you want a movie.

Still no teeth, crawling, etc as yet. But we do have a cheerful soul on our hands, so that will do for now.

Eulalia · 11/03/2006 20:26

ds has started crawling! don't know whether to be :) or :( as he is FAR too young to be doing this! However at least its very slow crawling, more creeping really for the moment...

Joje · 11/03/2006 22:32

Hi long time no write due to numerous probsSad. Ds was in the hospital and now dh has not eaten since weds and has had S&D since thurs...eeek.Well the question I ask is should I feel guilty for being jealous that dh has been in bed for three days Envyand have been angry with ds for crying all the time?Blush

Also anyone live near harrogateSmileor a meet

Belo · 12/03/2006 20:54

Oh dear Joje. Nowhere near Harrogate I'm afraid. If I did I would love to meet in Betty's Grin.

Dd2 has been poorly today. She's had a slightly raised temp, has been sick more than normal and has had horrible smelly very loose poos. I'm torn between feeling upset that she's ill and obviously not happy and dreading the fact that she might not be well enough to go to nursery tomoorow. That's the worst thing about working, not allowing them to have time recouperating at home after an illness. I so have to go to work tomorrow as I've got such a lot on. dd2 simply cannot be ill. Poor love.

Eulalia, I love crawling babies. I think it's the cutest stage. You say slowly at the moment... not for long though! That speed will soon pick up.

How has the snow affected the Northen Mum's today? Apparently Dh's parents couldn't leave the house today as there was so much snow. They're in the Wirral, but are prone to a bit of exagerating. We haven't had a single flake all year in Sarf London. I feel cheated.

mrsdarcy · 12/03/2006 22:23

I loved the BMJ link Eulalia Grin. I sent it to my FiL (a doctor) and he loved it too. Crawling! I really hope DD doesn't start soon as I am about to have no kitchen and will be in worse chaos than usual.

Sorry you're having a horrible time Joje. I'm on the other side of the Pennines so no use to you I'm afraid. Is DS Ok now?

I hope DD is better tomorrow Belo. We had a good few inches of snow this morning but by afternoon it was beginning to disappear. Maybe your inlaws are in a special weather pocket Smile

Eulalia · 14/03/2006 11:35

Belo - hope your dd is feeling better now. We all had the tummy bug but fortunately it only seemed to affect our upper ends. The snow in Scotland seems to be worse around Glasgow this time round. We had horrendous winds yesterday and icy rain/sleet but its much better today. roll on Spring.

joje - your poor ds - is he OK now?

MrsD - is your dd eating mroe now? ds doesn't seem very interested in food. He likes to suck on finger things but won't open his mouth for a spoon. I have to stuff a few spoonfuls in while he opens his mouth for the finger stuff and it takes ages. Consequently he is only getting one proper meal a day. I feed him twice but the other 'meal' I let him play around with yet more finger food. Seeing the HV tomorrow and don't know whether to tell her or not in case I get told off! Also he doesn't seem to know what to do with a beaker either... ho hum

mrsdarcy · 14/03/2006 14:07

Eulalia. DD is eating a bit more but still not much. She has toast soldiers for breakfast and steamed veg/fruit fingers for lunch. Often by suppertime she is too tired and cranky. The only indication I have that any of it is going down her is that I see it in her nappies! I think she is also taking less breastmilk (except at night).

We have one of those tommee tippee cups with a flip-up spout, and she really likes it and has some water with meals.

I missed swimming today as I feel really fluey Sad. I even set off but half-way there just didn't feel up to it so I have spent the day lying on my bed and feeling sorry for myself. Fortunately DD has been quite co-operative. She was awake a lot in the night and has another little tooth so I think she is tired too.

Bagpuss30 · 14/03/2006 14:23

Afternoon, just popping on quickly to say we had a great holiday - kids really enjoyed themselves, although the accommodation wasn't up to much we had a nice break all in all. ds2 got tooth number three whilst we were there too Smile and more importantly there were no work calls for dh at all .

Mrsd/belo - yes, I will be around for a meet-up then I'm sure.

Belo, I must just ask, did you make the banana bread? I am going to make one later I think.

ds2 is just trying to crawl but keeps getting thwarted by our very slippy laminate - he is still managing to get about though and can roll and drag himself all about the place.

Mrsd, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm off to read the posts properly now. BTW do you think we should have a new thread - this one has been going since Jan!

OP posts:
mrsdarcy · 16/03/2006 12:11

Our kitchen is being ripped out tomorrow and DH's contribution (supposed to get boxes and shelving for me) has been limited to buying 100 pitta breads.

Bagpuss30 · 16/03/2006 14:02

LOL, mrsd that is soo funny Grin. Seriously, I hope it all goes well - how long will builders be there for?

OP posts:
mrsdarcy · 16/03/2006 14:13

Oh, and he got a case of beer as well...

The builders reckon they'll be here for about 4 weeks, so I reckon 6. They will amongst other things be digging out the floor (built on sand, like the Foolish Man's house) and pouring in concrete so we will need to wait a few weeks after that before putting the new floor down. Then we need a kitchen. So I think we'll be without a kitchen for at least a couple of months.

I've started another thread about kitchens (how heavingly exciting!) but will apologise now for long meandering posts about surveyors, underpinning, skips etc etc Grin
