Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

HC, how was DD at nursery today?

DD and I had a great time at the cinema, and afterwards I bought some lovely Benefit stuff to prepare for strop-day tomorrow. I asked DH when he came home this evening if he noticed anything different about me and he didn't, so that was £40 well spent

hoxtonchick · 09/02/2006 23:44

hmmm, well she still refused to eat.... quite happy otherwise, & slept there too. but i had to go in at lunchtime to persuade her to eat, despite me sending a pack up in with her (they couldn't believe she ate such big chunks ). i didn't bf her though, just solids, & then left her there 'til hometime. so not perfect, but not too bad. i'm going to express some milk over the weekend (oh god, never done this before, i'm going to make friends with my neighbour's breastpump), & have told work that i'll have to leave at 2:30 so i can pick her up next week.

i did good tk maxx shopping during my childfree day though .

hope everyone else is ok. sorry for taking over this thread with my nursery woes.

Hello all. Blimey, I call this post ?Peace and Peace?, it?s very long and nothing very interesting happens in it. I should post little and often, shouldn?t I?

Belo, number one son is still up for feeds in the night. I?ve tweaked it and with a 10pm dreamfeed (thanks to the thyroxine I can now stay up til 10.30, woo-hoo, raver!) he feeds again at about 2am and then about 6.30. We?re not really progressing on the feeding from a bottle front, but that is down to lack of parental will.

Since I started the thyroid medication I have bazookas of glory and milk to spare. Much of my plan to shift him was based on weak milk supply but I?ve rethought it and will try expressing again now. We?re off to buy the Isis Avent Uno this weekend and make a consistent stab at it next week with expressed milk. The young man himself does do best with those mam ultivent bottles/teats, thank you Bagpuss, but what really lights his fire is cup feeding. He loves the things, but can?t suck from the ones with spouts it seems and gets mostly wet from open cups. Still, we do persist with those consistently ? I like to know he is washing down any pouched food before we leave the table! I?m afraid I have no idea how much fluid he is getting bagpuss, hope your little one is better.

Talking of feeding, the mini gourmet had mashed sprouts and chestnuts in unsalted butter yesterday, with mum here gloriously adding bacon and pepper to hers. I also insisted in talking to him in cod French throughout to go with the meal. He seemed bemused, but happy.

On the nursery front it is a relief to hear from belo that going to nursery is normal, as I?m girding my loins for the horror of leaving Vin next month. So HC, my heart is in my mouth for you this week and next. Good luck with the pump, and congratulations on having a job where you get to tell them you are leaving at 2.30pm. I can?t remember, are you going back full time? I will be cutting my lunchbreak down to about 20-25 minutes to get home ASAP. Mind you I?m only doing 3 days a week. I am not sure how long for. Forever sounds good .

We have a red buggy ? why wouldn?t DH let you have on Bagpuss? Is there a red buggy/no knickers saying I should Know about? We?re going to Hamleys for the first time tomorrow to see what goodies they have for babies who like to sit and play for hours. Looking forward to it in that way only the uninitiated can, I suspect.

H2D, welcome back then! Have stuff on Thursdays keeping us from the cinema for a couple of weeks. Weekend after this, could you nip down for a lunch or a brunch? Oooh, we just had a media centre disaster ? bought an eBox from Evesham plus a flat screen but it was utter pants ? so much didn?t work we just sent it back. DP now looking for a mini-PC to build up himself. Any hints gratefully received.

Erm, that?s it. Cough.

Belo · 10/02/2006 13:24

Glad you're feeling more energetic MB. Any spare tablets going?

Glad all went well with the paed MrsD.

HC at you being able to leave at 2.30pm. I'm allowed to leave at 4pm, but I do start at 8am.

I'm going to a wedding on Saturday so we're leaving the girls with my parents. Its goign to be my first night without dd2. And, her first night going to bed with a bottle!

hoxtonchick · 10/02/2006 19:27

she took a bottle . with formula . i am sooooooooo pleased. only 50mls, but it's a start. a million thanks to bundle who provided bottles/teats/support. she likes the playtex ones, which apparently have the most nipple like teats....

i'm only going to work 2 days a week, mb, nowhere near fulltime. in fact, it'll be quite nice once i get back into it. the only slight spanner in the works is that nursery announced today that they're closed on monday 'cos of drainage problems. grrrrrrrrrrrr. dp is therefore taking the day off work!

hope the new place is lovely mb, most impressed with vin's munching progress .

mrsdarcy · 13/02/2006 08:57

good luck today hc
how are you feeling mb?
how is the new house daf?

In the Darcy household DD has gone off all forms of sleep unless we are out in the pram. She might have a 10-minute catnap if pushed but at night wakes up every hour. She is a bit better with finger food now (toast soldiers for bfast) but won't touch puree. Our house is in utter chaos, prompting DH to ask The Question He Mustn't Ask: "what do you actually DO all day".

Off to the neurologist today so DD is practising her best moves and noises.

hoxtonchick · 13/02/2006 11:06

nursery's closed (drainage problems....), dd is a bit ill (snotty/rash/slight temp), so both children are at home with dp & m-i-l. work is quite peaceful .

Elsbells · 13/02/2006 11:10

Hiya
Hope u all don't mind me gatecrashing...I have 1 child - ds was born 28 Jul 05 and so far it has been great.

Back to work soon (end of march)

Would love to be able to chat/ask questions with you all.

merryberry · 13/02/2006 13:56

Hello Ellsbells, welcome welcome! You can read about some of us on our stats thread and add more about yourself if you get time. Then just dive in the chat - we're a bit sporadic but we're here when it counts, it seems to me. You go back to work just before me, it's going to be the toughie isn't it?

HC, you sound like you're having a nice first day, given the potential for chaos with the drain problem. I've now had the breastfeeding cafe suggest I don't even try with bottles but go straight to cup. Oh me oh my I don't know. How's your LOs doing with cup feeding? Vin is a bit of a slow learner, maybe?

MrsD, I hope the sleeplessness just presages a huge development spurt followed by much sleep. Mine does that a bit. How was the doc today? And what is the answer to that question, except for smiling sweetly, handing over the kids and heading out the door for a week? And I feel normal - which is a triumph. God bless thyroxine.

DS managed to flollop from sitting, over his feet and onto his front in slow motion today where he played with a toy. Bated breath - was it an accident or the beginning of the end of my peaceable non-mobile baby days? Also nearly lost him off my lap for the first time, in this case he sort of flummoxed hard on his back post-feed and twist-jack-knifed off, I caught him as his head levelled up with my shins. Be still my manically beating heart.

Daf, you guys in one piece still?

Belo · 13/02/2006 13:57

Hello and welcome Elsbells!

Life is a lot easier at work HC. Plenty of time for Mumsnet!

Got my 1st period today and it hurts.

Elsbells · 13/02/2006 17:54

Merryberry/Belo - Thanks for the welcome!
To be honest I LOVE staying at home with little one and feel my confidence may have dipped a bit since being off work so hope it will actually better than it seems.

Belo, speaking of periods...when is it supposed to come back? I stopped breastfeeding when ds was 4months and still nothing (been using protection of the rare occassions dh and I are intimate so can't be pregnancy)

Is there anything that can "kickstart" the system? Or am I just lucky and should stop worrying?

mrsdarcy · 13/02/2006 18:48

Welcome Elsbells .

So glad you're feeling better MB.

We were fine with Jones the Brain today, thank you. He's not seeing DD again till October which I think speaks for itself . We're seeing Jones the Ear in a few weeks and Jones the Eye after Easter (I think) but the appointments are all slowing down which will save me a fortune in taxi fares!

The only scary thing from Brain was that by about 9 months the toxins in breast milk (if you live in a city) outweigh the health benefits of breastfeeding . Also, in some countries (don't know if here) you can get your breastmilk tested for said toxins. Final scary thing - if by around 9 months you are still co-sleeping it will be v hard to break the habit.

I think he had me pinned down as a bit of a sad act who is fixated with her own breasts

There were some poor little mites at the hospital who seem to be at the same sort of stage as DD. One of them was a teenager . We are SOOOOOO lucky.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with cups for Vin, MB. I think that's what I'll have to try with DD as she isn't going anywhere near a bottle.

I got my periods back pretty much 6 months to the day after having DD (still breastfeeding). In fact, it was around this stage with DS1 that I became pregnant with DS2 . I'd just enjoy your good luck, Elsbells, unless you would like to be pregnant again.

hoxtonchick · 13/02/2006 21:41

i say pah to your paed mrsd, speaking in my official capacity as a breastfeeding co-sleeping mother of a 7.5 month year old. or alternatively you could just tell him to bugger off........ actually, dd isn't even co-sleeping atm, she's lying on the sofa with dp watching the football. and shrieking (happily) - that's bad, isn't it...

hope your cup feeding succeeds mb. dd is very keen on open cups, & drinks really quite a lot before trying to throw it everywhere. do try playtex bottles though, she latches on really easily, just like they're proper nipples! independent chemists are the best place to find them.

work was fine, quite nice & relaxing. i snuck off at 4, was home before 5. dd was most delighted to see me, ds was merely sulking as nursery was closed. boobs didn't get too sore during the day, so all in all a success. i'm still pleased we're going on holiday next week though.

what do you all reckon, will ryanair trash my lovely mountain buggy if i take it on the plane? i'm veering towards the purchase of a very cheap stroller which i don't care about. saw a nice flowery cosatto one for £25. any excuse....

kid · 13/02/2006 21:45

Hi HC, I knew you were back at work soon, glad it went well. Can't be bad, going off on holiday next week!

If you need a buggy for your flight, you are welcome to C's one, we don't use it anymore just keeping it for emergencies at the moment. Of course if you are just looking for an excuse to buy another buggy then just pretend I didn't offer

merryberry · 13/02/2006 21:47

AAAaahh. I am very pleased to hear you're doing so well, keeping up with the Joneses

Was Jones the Brain a man MrsD? I cannot believe that about breastmilk and toxins. Which toxins, measured how, causing what negative health outcomes? Against which health benefits from breastfeeding, measured how, etc etc? Using which study design in which populations at what level of statistical power. Oooh my epidemiological soul is aquiver. Not.

damn want to write more, got to go, catch up soon. xx

mrsdarcy · 13/02/2006 22:36

He was a man! However did you guess

I think he felt sorry for my DH, or maybe he was just trying to impress me. I was wearing my birthday makeup after all.

It might have been a Gernam study he was talking about but I know that doesn't answer any of your questions.

hoxtonchick · 14/02/2006 08:20

ooooh, kid, that would be great! i'll e-mail you.

merryberry · 14/02/2006 10:14

Back again, INGRATE me. I made a crack at the breakfast table about how we don't do valentine's, only for dp to whip out a card (sexual innuendo one, but a card nonetheless) and a pressie - tenacious D album (tuneful sexual depravity, but a present nonetheless). I think I can take this to read he loves me even more now I have presented him with number 1 son. And that more sex would be welcome. We never did Valentines before...

Where are you going on holiday HC - am I remembering Italy right? For DHs 40th?

When I get back to work MrsD I am going to hunt down that study and attempt to read it with an open mind.

Well dp insists we get Vin watered from a non-nork source ASAP as he likes to have contigency time in his plans, so I just tried expressing with my shiny new Isis Avent Uno. No joy yet. He will have to cup/bottle feed Vin at lunch time and I will lock myself outside with the flower boxes and listen to Tenacious D to ignore the poor mites wails.

Let you know how it goes. x

merryberry · 14/02/2006 10:18

HC, are these the ones you mean from Playtex? And what's the idea with the liners for the bottles, this is completely new to me! Many thanks.

Elsbells · 14/02/2006 15:03

Mrs Darcy - I guess I will enjoy my 'luck' then...love being a mommy but defo want to wait a few more months before thinking of baby no2

Er, chatting about food and stuff. I am trying my best to make everything homemade BUT when i do need to use a jar (like when out for a long time) is there such a thing as a good one?

merryberry · 14/02/2006 20:33

I find HIPP organic are fine for out and about. But I like babylicious frozen meals best - they don't use so many thickeners like rice or wheat flour and are packed with flavour.

hoxtonchick · 15/02/2006 08:03

this stuff merryberry. i was highly sceptical, but they really do work. quite hard to get hold of though, independent chemists are your best bed.

dd has started creeping across the room when we're not watching. it's rather disconcerting.... not quite sure how she does it, but she certainly moves...

countdown to sicily has begun. i am so looking forward to it, but a little worried about the lack of a washing machine - what a boring thing to care about!

i haven't had a period yet. with ds, i stopped bf at 6.5 months & didn't get one until he was about 10/11 months. as i'm still bf dd i'm not holding my breath.

hoxtonchick · 15/02/2006 08:04

errr, bet not bed .

Belo · 15/02/2006 11:05

I'm still bfeeding. Why have I got my period? Not fair.

Glad all went well with the paeds MrsD. Don't quite understand the toxins comment.

merryberry · 15/02/2006 20:50

Yeah me to Belo - not fair. Got my first just before Xmas. Not problematic, that one. The January one came late and arrived with bells whistles teeth and general agony. Boo.

Thank you HC, will order some up. He's doing better with the doidy cup every day, still stops at about 1-2oz of a bottle though. Me and dp are currently not worrying as that's enough every hour to get hom through the day at present if needed. And it's not needed. I've put my foot down and refused to spoil my last easy days with this worry. I'll come come back to it properly about 10 days before nursery induction starts.

Got to say - am loving the spring like weather action. I assume we'll see mucho rain soon to go with warmer temps...
