Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

Too bad about the period, Belo. I'm a bit confused about the toxins thing, too. It looks as though Merryberry is the woman who could find out if it is all hooey.

DD finally spent the night in her own bed last night, at least until 4am when I was too knackered to put her back. She was fine about it but still woke every 2 hours for a feed. It's all progress, though.

Belo · 16/02/2006 08:29

A good nights sleep shouldn't be far away MrsD. We've finnaly cracked it and dd2 sleeps from 6.30pm until 6.30am, in her own room! Dd1 however keeps getting up earlier and earlier and earlier. And, getting herself out of bed in the evening and wandering aroudn the house and hiding from us!

Eulalia · 16/02/2006 22:44

Welcome Elsebells

Re periods: it took 18 months! for them to come back after birth of dd. With birth of ds1 it was 13 months. yes I know I am v lucky and fertility returns very quickly too.

Glad to hear all is going well with the appointments Mrs D. Not at all sure re. the toxins in b/milk - I may have something on that - will have a look later.

Solids are still going slowly - ds is only taking about a tablespoon so we are just sticking to one meal a day for the moment.

Would like to talk more but I am soooo tired and need my bed.

Bagpuss30 · 17/02/2006 08:06

Morning everyone. Just grabbing a quick chance to post whilst ds2 is still sleeping and ds1 and dd have their breakfast. Today is the first day of half term for us so no more dashing out in a hurry in the mornings for me . I did intend to post on Saturday but was cut off half way through by dh who needed the computer for something so never got the chance. That post would have said Happy Birthday Mrsd and well done to dd HC for getting on with that bottle!

I'm glad the whole work/nursery thing is going well for those who have returned and also mrsd pleased to hear your dd is doing well with all those appointments! I'm sure Jones the Brain (I kept reading that as Brian Jones before ) and his study can't be right. Without wishing to start a row, the WHO have been advising the feeding for 2 years thing for years and they are not just a random bunch of people!

Re: periods, I thought I had one when ds2 was 8 weeks old but I was wrong and was getting rather worried when I gave up bf at the end of December as still nothing. Finally two weeks ago (and just as I was considering a pg test) did it finally arrive so I guess I am back to normal now.

Ellsbells, I would second Merryberry re the pre prepared food. I havent given ds2 any jars really but use Babylicious occasionally. I have spent most of the week making and freezing a load of food up for ds2 - in fact, I am drowning in little bags filled with ice cube sized portions of mush now - just call me Annabel .

DS2 has been really unwell this week too with a bad cough which just won't go. He has also cut his second tooth. I have never seen him so unhappy - he is usually such a happy baby . I have great sympathy with those whose babies still aren't sleeping - this week has been awful with so many broken nights.

HC, I hope you have a lovely holiday. I am looking forward to our break although it won't be as adventurous as yours .

Right, have to dash now as ds2 is stirring!

Bagpuss - hope your ds is better now.

Where is everyone - busy with half term /working / making baby food?!

It's snot city here again. I have managed to shake my cold/fluey thing off at last but ds1 had it briefly last week. It's not fair he's never ill - shakes things off in a day or two. However dd has horrid cold, also dh and ds2. Was only just getting into the solids although it was going very slowly and now ds has lost interest but will start up again in a day or two.

Swimming tomorrow with those who don't have colds and then back to school on Wed. We have been 'promised' snow but no signs of it. We usually get a big fall about this time of year.

latearrival · 21/02/2006 22:52

Hello Bagpuss and everyone

Not had time to read all posts so hope you are all doing well. Dd had her swimming class today - we had to let go of them for the first time and it was amazing to see her little face coming up to me.

Sorry to be so brief but very tired and must fit in a soak in some warm water - I have a stiff neck from lying in a draft trying to keep dd warm the other windy night while she fed. Must put up more draft excluder as I can see the blinds moving when the wind picks up.

Belo · 24/02/2006 15:28

We had dd2s christening last weekend which was rather exhuasting. Lots of family tensions. Great fun dd2 was a real star. She managed to throw up all her lunch just as the priest was blessing her. One our friends commented that that was the devil coming out of her!

Do we have any crawlers yet? I saw a friend who had their baby mide June. He is now crawling. Very cute. dd2 isn't showign any signs yet. My personal opinonion is that she's too fat to do something that energetic. She really does love her food and eats more than her elder sister.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

DiamondsAreForever · 27/02/2006 15:53

Hi everyone- I am back online after the move!
Hope all the colds have cleared up and the draughts are excluded, and that you are all well and happy. Oh, and happy Birthday MrsD- hope you had a bit of bubbly to celebrate!
Well, it's been a crazy few weeks, dd now has her own lovely room and although she seems to like it, she has had yet another virus and usually ends up snuggled in with us. It seems like she has been sick since before Christmas and although she seems happy and smiley, it's horrible to see her suffer with coughs and sneezes all the time.
However, she is still a demon feeder and is now on two full meals of mummys marvellous mush each day plus desserts and rusks (I have never seen such joy at the sight of a biscuit... but then again, maybe I should look in the mirror when presented with jaffa cakes...)
I have got Lorraine Kelly's book which although sounds naff, is actually really useful and has quite a few good ideas in it.
Oh and dd has her first two teeth and is very proud of them- man, they're sharp and for the first time I am so glad not to be breast feeding!
Anyway, must stop warbling on and get on with the unpacking (yes, still at it two weeks later Blush)
love to all the babes x

hoxtonchick · 27/02/2006 20:43

hello all,

we're back from our lovely holiday in sicily, & i can't believe that dd is just about 8 months now. we had a really great time, lots of lounging in cafes, exploring ruins & general relaxation. both children loved the food, & dd's appetite increased enormously whilst we were away.

she had her 2nd whole day at nursery today. she is the youngest there by quite some way, & has been taken over by a really sweet woman in her room & seems to have spent all day attached to her! she ate ok, had milk from a bottle & slept as well. not bad at all. i'm very relieved, specially as i spent most of last night awake worrying about it.

she's also sleeping in her cot tonight :o. her sleeping's been pretty useless for the last 6 weeks or so, spending all night in our bed & waking up a LOT in the early evening. so tonight dp persuaded me to feed her, put her in the cot & see what happened. there was 15 minutes of complaining, but definitely not full-on screaming & she's been asleep for an hour now (i know that doesn't seem much, but i would normally have been up there at least twice settling her...). long may it continue. i don't mind having her in bed with us for the latter part of the night, but was really fed up of having no evenings.

hope everyone's doing well, this thread's gone quiet recently. glad your move went well daf :).

merryberry · 27/02/2006 20:57

hello you lovely people. i too am back from various small scale adventures and disruptions. i hope the winter bugs are coming to an end for everyone soon, and congraulations on the move daf. do you have a garden to get to know as well in the new place?

hc, i'm with you every step of the way on your dd adventures in nursery. i probably spend an hour a day thinking about my young man starting (not for about 5 weeks even!!). not worrying, more plotting.

i am torn about the crawling - i am loving my last weeks of still-baby but so looking forward to him getting into the world more. he tries a lot now to and succeeds with tipping forwards to lying from sitting, but always cries about being on his front. he likes mama surfing though in that he will crawl slide and twist all over me in positions he loathes on the floor.

eating continues well, and i've got good at reading the signs where he gets dead frustrated with me spooning gloop - so i give him finger food for a while then back to gloop.

hope to be around a bit more now. where is H2D?

hoxtonchick · 27/02/2006 20:59

they are soooooooooo happy to see you at the end of the day mb, i love it.

Bagpuss30 · 28/02/2006 09:57

Lovely to see this thread getting a bit busier - I thought I'd killed it the other week Blush.

Glad you had a nice break HC - I am really ready for ours next week.

ds2 has finally reached 20lbs in weight and so I am off to buy ds1 a new car seat so that I can move dd into his and then ds2 can have hers iyswim. Talk about musical chairs!

I agree MB, it is a little sad when they start to move around and become more like children and not babies. ds2 has grown out of a few things recently which I am sad about. He can haul himself about on his tummy and sit really well now too. He is so much fun now though and his routine is definitely easier. I am looking forward to September when dd is at school too and we can spend our days doing more for ds2 like swimming and tumble tots - all the stuff I never got the chance to do with ds1 or dd.

daf, glad you are settled in at last. Just you wait until dd wants to make biscuits with you - loads of fun guaranteed! I currently have a jam and cream sponge sitting in the fridge that dd and I made together Smile - not good for the waistline.

Right, best be off now - this is turning into an essay again!

Eulalia · 28/02/2006 11:00

It's snowing here ! :) Several inches. Schools are closed.

However we have the sick bug - all of us except dh and dd.. :( Not used to a baby being sick as myother two were never sick as babies. Am just feeding ds2 as and when he seems to need it. He seems quite alert otherwise and smiling/laughing as usual. ds1 was so brave last night and came all the way down the stairs to be sick into the bathroom sink (we don't have a bathroom upstairs).

Sorry I can't be more chatty I am still feeling quite rough and very tired. Catch up more later.

blondie82 · 28/02/2006 12:08

At last!! dd has eventually started rolling over :o
thought it would never happen

mrsdarcy · 28/02/2006 13:11

Hello everyone! We had a lovely holiday although the weather was rubbish (but we were in the north of England so no surprises!). DS2 didn't manage to acheive his ambition of going for a sheep ride but had lots of fun chasing it with a lassoo Grin

DD is sitting up beautifully, starting to go forwards on her hands in preparation for crawling, still not sleeping and not eating much either, but loves us all and is great company Smile. I'm pretty sure I saw a little tooth peeping out but she is still grinding her gums and grimacing so I think there are more on the way. She really has a hard time with teeth, poor love.

Glad the house move went well, DaF. We're preparing to have builders in which will mean no kitchen and no washing machine for ages. However will I manage? Lots of cafes for DD and me, I reckon.

Sorry your family is ill Eulalia. That's a miserable pancake day for you isn't it?

Eulalia · 01/03/2006 08:42

Feeling heaps better now. Even managed a pancake last night. ds2 stopped being sick yesterday lunchtime and ds1 seemed OK but was sick again just before bedtime. However nothing since so hopefully that's the end of it. I think dd has missed it.

However we are stuck in the house - snowed in. I've already started a thread as I think I am going to be totally bored after being in all day yesterday (apart from brief expedition to the garden to make a snowman). We now have a FOOT of it and more due to come Shock

Mrs D - glad you had a good holiday. It doesn't matter about the weather sometimes its just nice to get away.

Ooh Bagpuss how do you find time to make cakes!? MInd you that's something we could do today.

HC - very Envy at your holiday.

Well I'd better go and dig up some logs for the stove before it goes out.

merryberry · 01/03/2006 09:58

Eulalia, I just sped read the thread and you seemed to go from ill to thoughts of cake in 60 seconds. I thought: my kinda woman;) Glad you're better!

I am really looking forward to ds starting nursery now. It's a weird way to raise kids - me myself and i with added dad whenever possible. So strange living in the middle of thousands of people yet doing it all on your own! I sure need some refreshment. Never thought working would be that. I blame the breastfeeding. I'm glad its happened and all that but it makes such an unbreakable tie, especially al that time my thyroid was shot, my milk was low and i was feeding every 2 hours (grinds teeth in retrospective frenzy).

So anyway, palaver, palaver, I make it my mission this summer to really get to know more local mums and swap childcare with them rather than just enjoying them at groups and cafes and pubs.

Rhyme time now, wake up little man...you like this group...looks like he might sleep it thru again though ho hum.

Eulalia · 01/03/2006 16:04

MB - when does your ds start nursery.

Got cabin fever here - been stuck in for 2 days due to the snow. It's been snowing all day - up to 39 cms now! (I have a tape measure 'planted' in the garden). I must go out tomorrow even if it means digging the car out as I'll go doolaly otherwise. ds1 and dd are currently bouncing on the sofa which is better than fighting I suppose.

merryberry · 02/03/2006 17:13

wow, that's a lot of stuck indoors. hope you get out soon. mine starts nursery on the 27th march. argh.

went shopping out of my way today for some coffee to give dad time alone at home and felt compelled to validate myself against the till in shu uemara. hope to have dewy youthful non-thyroid problem skin when i wake in the morning.

Eulalia · 02/03/2006 18:32

... 3 days.... argghh!!! Feels like the artic here.... off to annoy some neighbours. Hope I can dig the car out tomorrow but forecast is for more snow!

Bagpuss30 · 03/03/2006 11:25

Oh Eulalia, I hope you manage to get out soon! In answer to your question, finding the time to make cakes is directly proportional to find time to eat them Grin. We made banana bread yesterday which is rather delicious (she says after her second slice of the day Blush).

It is snowing here too and so I am forced to walk everywhere, which is just as well really as I have washed the covers on our second stage car seat for ds2 to use and discovered that part of the seat is damaged. I'm waiting for a replacement bit which the manufacturers are very generously sending me for free!

mrsd, you can always come for lunch again in Manchester if you wish to escape when the builders arrive! Smile. lol at your ds2 and the sheep!

Right, must dash as its time to pick up dd from pre-school. Hope everyone is well - where is Hub? Have we scared him off?

OP posts:
Belo · 03/03/2006 12:30

Bananabread sounds delcious Bagbuss. I'm sure that's very healthy Grin. Where is the recipe from? dd2 is forever wanting to make cakes.

Eulalia, all the snow sounds very exciting, but I'm sure the novelty is wearing off for you now. BBC London said we might be getting snow tonight. I'm hopoing we do. I would love to take dd1 sledging tomorrow. Dh is currently up in Glasgow, trying to get to Edinburgh. His flight was diverted this mornign. Hope he gets back tonight! Don't fancy being a single mum tihs weekend.

HC your holiday sounds fab. I'm glad that your dd is settling in at nursery.

MrsD, I think I'm braving a trip up to Wirral to see the inlaws over Easter. If your builders are still around maybe we could meet up?

Merryberry - let me know if your magic cream works. I would love some dewey skin....

Bagpuss30 · 03/03/2006 13:08

Belo, it's a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall book - River Cottage Family Cookbook. Very good for children and explains everything very simply - dh bought it so that he could do cooking with the children at weekends, but ds1 likes the banana bread so much he makes me make it for his packed lunch at school Smile.

I hope your dh manages to return in time for the weekend. Mine is stuck at work doing something really important that will complete on Monday, which is when we go away Angry - why does this always seem to happen to us?

OP posts:
Belo · 03/03/2006 14:12

I've got that book Bagpuss. Only made the minestrone soup and the soda bread so far from it. I'll have a go at the banana bread this weekend.

So, you're left looking after the kids and packing up and making sure everything is ready for your holiday? Poor you. You will deserve a holiday!

Bagpuss30 · 03/03/2006 14:27

Will probably pack at the last minute Belo, I can't face that now as I am still trying to get on top of the laundry. The shortbread and the lentil and bacon soup from that book are also very good too. Got to do school run shortly - the last for over a week Smile. Honestly it is like groundhog day in this house at the moment....
