Well, mine is anyway .
Here it is - a new thread to celebrate the new year with our babies.
Back later - I'm on the laptop at the mo and find it tricky to use smaller keyboard to type.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The building work is going fine, although the dust is incredible and I am staying out of the house as much as poss. I lurk expectantly around the school playground in the hope that someone will invite me for coffee Grin. They've knocked the rooms through now so we can see what the space will be like, which is good for morale.

Eulalia · 29/03/2006 14:50

ds is 8 months old today - still not eating much. Got a bit of a cold and he slept a lot yesterday and what with various trips out with the children he didn't get any food till 6pm Blush Going to start on breakfasts in the school hols.

Need to read the thread now to catch up.

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 08:30

Morning all. Long time no speak.

Hope all your building work goes smoothly. Building work is always rather grim.

DD is well. A touch of the runs (mmm nice), but otherwise dandy. Nothing to announce re: teeth nor crawling etc. but she is being (very slightly) more free with the giggles. Nice babbling noises and I reckon I'll get a 'dada' within a couple of months, LOL.

I've got her full time for a week as dw does some cover at school, and then I'll take dd for the two days dw will be returning to work. Should be an adventure ! hoxton / mb / anyone if you fancy the Everyman cinema or A N Other Northish London meet, just shout. dw is not working Wednesday next week if you'd like more than just the bear grappler and baby bear.
Wink

LOL... I just typed "I've got an estate and it'd quite possibly take three child seats across" - then I realised there'd be no room for the three of us pmsl. And that wasn't an offer to babysit LOL.

Oooh.. mrsd - my dw and I, together with my folks are heading to Liverpool around the 12th April I think, potentially staying at the Thistle Hotel in town. If you know somewhere nicer, please advise ! (We've stayed there before and it is so corporatey / ordinary that it doesn't seem worth the 80 squid). If you want to meet around then, that would be fun. We hope to visit \link{http://www.burghley.co.uk\Burghley} the day before and stay in Stamford, and maybe do some other National Trust Houses / nice gardens / walks for a day or two in and around Liverpool / Derbyshire etc. Any suggestions welcome !

merryberry · 31/03/2006 08:58

aaand, where the chuffing nora have you been young man?

good to see you again.

we're all sixes and sevens next week. will there be another nursery to start? will there be childminder's? will there be nannies? gawd knows. what are you doing for childcare? managing it yourselves?

am deffo going to my fave mums and babies thing on monday pm. would you like to come and hang out here for lunch, give camille her normal sleep and drop into the baby group with me?

ok, time for morning change and nap - both me and him. i ain't sleeping well with the childcare worries. and disappointment. i was really looking forward to getting him settled and getting some time to pull myself together.

merryberry · 31/03/2006 09:00

sorry yes would love to see d again, but am quite likely to be schlepping new nurseries etc on the weds.

Eulalia · 31/03/2006 09:14

Welcome back Hub! :)

Belo - its much milder now thankfully but rather rainy - what a great start to the school hols :(
Everything is really late though - daffs not even flowered yet. Glad to hear your dd is feeling better. 3 works quite well with us just now but the older two do tend to fight over baby or each other! - not sure what the dynamics will be when he is older.

MB - can't offer any advice but wishing you good luck to find something soon.

Good luck with the photos Mrs D.

Sorry if I've missed anyone need to get dd to Playgroup now.

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 09:16

LOL - RL been biting me on the bum.

Monday sounds fab. I think there's an M&T in Golders, not sure how good, but would love to check out yours if you've already ascertained it is Grrreat. Also, it's probably a lot easier for me to walk in with female cover than to swagger in with my cowboy hat on.
Wink

Camille has the \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1375&threadid=160299\trots} at the mo. If she's not better by tomorrow / Sat I'll let you know so your lo isn't exposed to whatever she's got (which I think is just way too many kidney beans and lentils, LOL).

merryberry · 31/03/2006 11:49

i'll protec you. or maybe be the female handler who throws you to the lions....cackle...well no, it's a sweet little thing in our local ps. i've made some great friends.

merryberry · 31/03/2006 11:50

protect. and gp, not ps. my net connectoin is through the tv now. looong way away from the sofa.

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 12:57

Net through TV sounds horrid, LOL... is it readable ?

Next Monday we have 'Rhyme Time' at Hendon Library at 10:30. 30 minutes long. Good fun if you want to come.

Hi Eulalia !

merryberry · 31/03/2006 13:10

we have those here, they are great aren't they. couldn'tmake that one without losing the sacrosanct morning sleep tho, sorry.

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 13:14

LOL.

mrsdarcy · 31/03/2006 16:35

The \link{http://www.hopestreethotel.co.uk/index.html\Hope Street Hotel} is lovely although it would be an idea to call them first to find out how child-friendly they are. It's a lovely building, v comfy rooms, gorgeous restaurant. It's Liverpool's fancy-schmancy boutique hotel Grin.

There's a B&B about 5 miles north of Liverpool (on the coast) which is supposed to be lovely. It's in a beautiful house and they have 3 guest bedrooms. It's in a suburb so if you wanted somewhere away from the city centre that might be worth a try - if you're interested I'll look up the details.

For eating, \link{http://www.heathcotes.co.uk/simply/locations.php?location_id=4&restaurant_id=2\Simply Heathcotes} in central Liverpool has been recommended by a few friends as child-friendly and v good food.

\link{http://www.albertdock.com/\Albert Dock} is close to the city centre and is a nice place to mooch around. The Maritime Museum and the Tate are both good too, are are within the Albert Dock complex.

Would love to meet up. Let's try to sort something out Smile

merryberry · 31/03/2006 20:43

well, dp came to a play time tea party thing at a mates with kids house today and for the first time saw ds get upset-reactive in a large group. nursery is off, childminder or nanny hunt begins. i think i am relieved as having seen the state of the nursery we tried this week i couldn't imagine trusting any of them, sorry to say, with a young boy who likes a hug every 5 minutes. oops, best cut and paste and post this on the other thread as well.

DiamondsAreForever · 31/03/2006 21:08

Merryberry, wherabouts are you? Just wondering as my childminder has an enormous network of childminder friends in North London and the few that I have met all seem fab. It might be worth me asking her if she knows anyone in your area...

hub- hello again! I like your runs topic- although I might have beaten that today... not the runs, just 7 (yes, 7) enormous no.2's in 8 hours! I have been a nappy changing fiend today! It must be all this great food I am pumping down her neck, the poor little thing!

Anyway, must dash as I am busy preparing dinner for friends tomorrow night and get the cat off my knee. Off to IKEA tomorrow to buy some shelves. Yes, on a Saturday. I must be mad. Or heading for a divorce as we are all going. I am going to bribe dh with the promise of a hotdog at the end.

Have a nice weekend everyone. x

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 21:25

Hi daf ! Wow, 7 big'uns, eh ?

Has anyone else had, ahem, 'exceptional results' with beans / pulses ? I'm wondering if this is maybe a bit too early for her gut IYSWIM...

hub2dee · 31/03/2006 21:27

Woops... and thank you v. much mrsd for those suggestions... I will have a think about what we're gonna do etc. When I know what day / time we might be able to do, I'll post / write. Would be lovely to meet up or take a stroll etc. BTW - was it you or Bagpuss who ended up buying a Mountain Buggy ? Grin

merryberry · 01/04/2006 07:28

oh thank you daf, please do ask if she recommends anyone in kentish town (near the high street, if it matters).
i've got an add on gumtree and await the local list from the council today.

ds manages lentil croquettes with no probem h2d, but then i bind them with egg already.

breakfast is required. gotta go.

Eulalia · 01/04/2006 09:51

Hope things get a bit more solid for you hub! No advice from me - our family have cast iron tums and bums.

Need breakfast ideas bearing in mind that ds2 isn't keen on spoons so has to be finger food.

merryberry · 01/04/2006 12:55

ditto eulalia. ds gets a slice of toast with unsalted butter, a large finger of cheese and fruit most breakfasts. raspberries werre insanely popular this week, scoops of kiwi fruit the week before.

blueberry muffins very popular here too, dead easy to make and suprisingly nutritious. i can paste up the recipe, anyone want it? word of warning, these are hard for adults to resist.

ds eats egg now as i needed to get things to stick together as he too totally refuses spoon gloop. so he's had fruit pancakes, ricotta pancakes etc. also left over salmon lumps.

today's fave tho: bits of pineapple in juice form a tin. seems much easier to gum than fresh that i've tried.

Eulalia · 01/04/2006 17:19

Thanks MB - gosh you are adventurous with your food! Just started giving ds gluten so toast will be on the menu, may delay dairy though like I did with dd till a year so no butter although I did give her sunflower marg before then so wasn't too strict. Yes please would be interested in the muffin recipe.

A beautiful warm sunny day here! I remember this day well 4 years ago - it was dd's due date but she didn't appear till the 16th!

merryberry · 02/04/2006 14:22

ah, well we're gluttons/gourmands so the training is starting early for ds. well, the muffin recipe is rammed with dairy, sorry so i'll spare your tastebuds for now.

but i do recommend the book it comes from, jennie maizels 'finger food for babies and todllers'pb vermillion.

hub2dee · 02/04/2006 20:08

Blimey... we do loads of different semi-lumpy purées, but Vin sounds like an amazing eater, LOL ! I get worried mini me will choke on stuff... will enjoy having a good look at him in action, mb !

We are thankfully dealing with nice, normal pastey stuff, LOL. Quite a relief !

mrsdarcy · 02/04/2006 21:32

MB, I'd like the muffin recipe please Smile. When we get our new kitchen I am going to be a completely different person - a fantastic, dillegent cook and lovingly competent wife and mother Grin.

DD had her underwater photo today - I got 2 phone calls reminding me to turn up! It went very well and they got 3 shots of her underwater on her own and one of the two of us. If the photo of the two of us turns out well it will be great but if it is bad it will be VERY bad. I wore my stylish maternity swimsuit with the (broken) zip for breastfeeding, and they put some funny beanbags down the back so I could sit on the bottom of the pool, and it felt like I had had some sort of dreadful prolapse Grin

Hope the childcare hunt goes well, MB. You sound impressively calm about it.

merryberry · 03/04/2006 10:27

rofl laughing at mrsd's kitchen hardware inspired personality transplant:) :)

with thanks to jennie maizels as below:

3oz butter, 7oz plain wholemeal flour, 2 and 1/2 tsp baking powder, 3oz caster sugar, 1 egg, 4oz plain yoghurt (not set, runny), 3 1/2 fl oz milk, 5oz fresh or 3oz dried blueberries

preheat oven to gas mark 4 (200c, 400f). get yourself a 24 mini muffin or 12 large muffin tray ready.

melt the butter, while it cools mix all dry ingredients (not the berries) in a bowl. combine coolish butter, egg, yoghurt and milk inanother bowl. pour wet ingredients into the dry, stir til reasonably mixed, can be lumpy don't overmix. fold in the blueberries. spoon into the cases. bake for 12-15 mins if little ones, 20 mins if larger ones. try not to eat complete set instantly when out of oven. try to remember to give baby some. can be frozen for up to three monthes. yeahm right!

swap blueberries for chopped apple, or baanana or pear, raisins, choc chips for older kids, dessocated cocnuts. or combos as you please. i plan to experiemnt with a cheese version as well, removin the sugar. will let you know how that goes. happy breakfasting. let me know if you need metric instead.

ps i do the buutter in a bowl in microwave and combo the other wet into it when cool to cut down on dishwasher space taken.
