OP posts:

tadjennyp · 14/11/2011 17:45

We'll keep up the positive vibes all the way to the op and out again. Well done Dilly on a full night's sleep!

So sorry Deb/mancrushed, that is really embarrassing for you. I don't mind saying that when my first h was beating me up quite regularly I had real problems with bladder control and was regularly mortified. I don't think anyone noticed if I wet myself but I am paranoid to this day if I need to go, in case I am nowhere near a toilet. Blush

I also don't mind saying that I am not fond of this SAHM lark. I have been at home since E was born 4 years ago, most of that in the States. All the mums round here seem to love it and I'm really grateful we can afford it, obviously. Blush

OK, enough embarrassing confessions from me. I hope your work weeks are going really well and poorly babies are getting better. Perhaps we should pat ourselves on the back for a job well done for a change? Smile

tadjennyp · 14/11/2011 17:48

Sorry, x-posted Jane! How exciting about the dress fitting! Not long now. Grin

ledkr · 14/11/2011 18:25

tad good god woman, you announce that so casually. I was also in that situation for a while,i didnt wet myself but had headches for years afterwards. It was yrs ago but my Mum doesnt believe me and thinks he was agood bloke Shock

jane So exciting.

wigglesrock · 14/11/2011 19:22

debka mancrushed oops to the shart, been there Blush.

Well thats my working week over until Thursday night, I'm tired but its going ok, doing the Sunday (which is only for 4 more weeks) is a bugger but Mama wants a new pair of shoes Grin I was a SAHM after Olivia for just over two years, it was ok but I spent a huge amount of money which we didn't have! I think I can only be a SAHM with unlimited resources, sometimes I'm very shallow.

tadjenny I agree, we are all doing a fab job xx

MizK Anna is still basically having 2 full feeds at night [tired eyes]

jane enjoy the fitting, so close now Grin

ledkr well done D on the sleeping, how lovely of the baby group. It goes without saying we are all here for you.

reastie Well I'll admit it, not a fan of Adela, bit too deep south for me and not in a good way. A bit like a character from True Blood or something, I went to school with a lot of Edels so that might be why I'm not fussed on it. Alice on the other hand is beautiful Grin

Off to heat up dinner, Mr W also brought in a tin of Quality Street, yummy Grin

tadjennyp · 14/11/2011 19:29

ledkr - h used to scream shout and throw things when drunk no matter who was there so they have been witnesses to stuff happening to their daughter that no parent should, unfortunately. Sad I'm sorry your Mum neither believes you and favours your dsis. so unfair.

Glad your working week is finished already wiggles!

tadjennyp · 14/11/2011 19:36

Though I must say we get on all right now. It is 19 years ago, after all, and way too long to hold a grudge!

reastie · 14/11/2011 21:17

tad and ledkr Shock at the things you have been through. It's a shame it seems more common than you hear about IYKWIM. Makes me feel like my problems are nothing Blush

jane one day down, only a handful left Wink

wiggles Envy to quality street and I still love Adela (but I also love Alice too, which is just as well Wink )

deb is this some kind of new tactic for you to lose weight? Shock Wink

hubbard re: the name matilda - that was initially my fave choice for alice when I was pg. TO make you feel better that Freya is a fab name I remember reading on mn matilda/tilly is a very 'of the moment' name and that it will go out of fashion very quickly and may become a sharon/tracy type name (as in they were trendy at the time but unpopular now).

Four4me · 14/11/2011 22:05

Hi I'm back........ Been at my sil wedding. We have had 4 nights in a hired motorhome. We went up to the Scottish boarders. The wedding was fab and my lovely Imogen was such a cute bridesmaid. Loads of washing now and totally knackered children.

Have had a quick catch up. Will be thinking of Dilly and you ledkr on wednesday.

Jane hope the run up to the wedding goes well... How exciting.

Hope work is going well for those you who have recently returned?

Archie is zooming around now and is sooooo dribbly, he got four teeth through within a week.

WeAreBorg · 14/11/2011 22:38

Well N has JUST gone to sleep now, after spending all evening staring at me like a psycho, looks like 10pm is the new bedtime. He needs less sleep than an adult Confused

tad horrible things happen to such lovely people, life is unfair. There are some exceptionally brave ladies on this thread (that includes you reastie). I am horrified by how common domestic violence is.

wiggles Grin at the word shart. I am also going to start using the word snart after I heard it on 30 rock (sneeze/fart). Controversially I do not like quality street Shock but still eat it if offered Shock

debka childish giggle at the poo fiasco. Most people I know have admitted to it at one point or another, usually holiday related like janes egypt debacle. A friend shat his bed when he was trekking in Nepal, he had nasty D&V and his lovely mate put rocks in his rucksack for the walk the next day. Men are evil.
How was the man crushed? Is this like a man flunk - choc still has not explained this?!!??

ledkr very best of luck to you and Dilly for Wed, will be thinking of you lots. Grin that you think I'm la dee dah, and [beam] that you think I'm funny, most people in RL just think I'm weird. And a drunk yes.

mizk the babies seem to be determindly not sleeping don't they? Nate doesn't actually bother with solid food anymore. I think it's since he became a successful model; he just pushes food round his plate, exercises loads, changes outfits frequently and parties all night.

tarlia you know everything!

jane eeeek!!!!

hubbard boo to freya not sleeping well, it's a gorgeous name though, my SIL has called her new baby Freya.

ponyo my TV buddy, The Killing is back on Saturday! I'm going to wear my wooly jumper all week and not wash my hair in honour no change there then

Thanks for the Christmas pressie info. MIL has already bought him about a million things for some reason, and seemed horrified when I said I probably wouldn't get him much Hmm

wigglesrock · 15/11/2011 08:25

WeAreBorg Grin at Nates male model attitude re food, Anna is still very ho hum about food, she'll take a very small amount and then she's like "bored now".

I didn't get Olivia anything for her first Christmas, she was only 8 weeks old and Mr W bought her a stocking and I stuck some baby presents I had got into it. The only reason Anna is getting a few toys is because Sofia and Olivia believe in Santa and I don't want to get questioned at 4.00am on Christmas morning as to why Santa didn't get anything for Anna.

Mr W is getting v excited about the Killing, he has such a crush on the actress - she's very much his type [eye roll]

Four4Me Really glad you had such a good time at the wedding, I know you weren't looking forward to it that much. Strangest thing - you popped into my head at work yesterday, well not you to be honest - Thomas - how are his ears?

Olivia is getting her pre-school, age 4 vaccinations later, have kept her off school today and we are having a lovely time playing My Little Pony Hmm, Anna is rifling through all the girls DVDs looking for one she'd like to eat Grin

Oh look at my post, you can tell I've been at work for five days and missed you all Blush

ManCrushedToDeathByALift · 15/11/2011 09:24

debka here for any who missed my namechange!

My sister got a baaaad tummy upset on her honeymoon- her new DH was cleaning poo and sick off the floor apparently!

5.30 this morning, slight improvement. S's tummy still bad (saw the raisins she had for her afternoon snack this morning, wow, she ate a lot of them!), but then mine is too and I feel fine. Dunno, probably ought to take her to gp but I don't know what they can actually do for the runs, when she's eating and drinking normally.

wiggles missed you too Grin

borg you make me laff too, I rofled at nate the model! Grin

44me welcome back, glad the wedding went well :)

reastie sorry about your horrible headache, hope you're feeling better again soon. I like Alice more than Adela, I taught loads of Adelas in Slovenia so it's nowt spesh for me. At least you have a name ready for no2! Grin

tad that's awful, I'm also shocked at how many women experience DV, I had no idea it was so common.

jane 4 days!!!!

Has no-one worked out my new name reference yet?

ledkr · 15/11/2011 10:15

Thanks all.
tad My mum saw my bruises and heard him swearing on the phone but seems to have forgotten. He actually beat me when i was pg with ds2 and i had him at 29 weeks Angry Btw this was not exh but r and k's dad from way back.I dont think about it anymore but i think thats why i am so active on the relationship boards,i try to help othere women see sense.

D was a pain last night, woke at 4 then was hard to re settle, ended up with her in with us and aching shoulders.

wiggs Dilly doesnt eat much i wonder if thats why we are still doing night feeds like newborns? grrrr.

deb would you like my pooh story.Me and dh went travelling in south of france with my bro in his lorry.Id known him 5 months.I got food poisoning in the night and had to puke and shit in bushes for hours. He was worried about me and insisted on staying nearby, depite the noise and smell Blush I was actually convinced he'd go off me and dump me when we got home.Instead he booked us into a nice hotel and took Ella to the beach whilst i slept.
The morning after we heard "bonjour!" and realised that my "toilet" was actually on a cycle path!!
Dont get the name no.

Four4me · 15/11/2011 10:21

mancrushed love the new name!

wiggles thanks for asking about Thomas's ears, they seem better finished antibiotics last fri so fingers crossed. We are at ent at beg of dec so we'll see, think his grommet will need removing. Very exciting though he finally lost his first tooth yesterday at the grand old age of 8. At least he held out till after the wedding photos. Joseph wrote out a list of questions for the tooth fairy to answer!!!!! The one that came here last night was called Pikibelle and she was 105 years old Grin

Just been to get Archie weighted and he is 20lbs so can go in the next size car seat, which is a relief as the Jane strata car seat plus him is too heavy for lugging about (physio head on!)
He is sooooo relieved to come home and not be being passed around random people at the wedding or as my dh calls them 'smelly breathed old women!'

reastie how are you doing my lovey?

janedoe25 · 15/11/2011 11:36

4forme Im glad you all had a lovely time at the wedding. yay for Thomas' tooth! Loving the tooth fairy Grin.

tad and ledkr I am so sorry that you both had to go through dv, I am proud of you both though- look at you now!

wiggs are playing and talking in american accents?

mancrushed Happy new name! Im glad you and S are feeling better.

borg You make me laugh with your descriptions of Nate, I particularly like "staring at you like a pyscho" Grin.

If i'm not back on in the next couple of days, ledkr I wish all the luch in the world tomorrow for Dilly's op although I am sure she will be an absolute star. I will be thinking about you both and holding your hand from a distance. x

WeAreBorg · 15/11/2011 13:32

ledkr Shock at that ex beating you up whilst pregnant, what's happened to him, I hope he is rotting in a prison cell somewhere. I just can't believe what you have been through, your attitude to life is amazing. Good luck for tomorrow

mancrush what is the reference then? Tell me!! Now!!!

44me glad you had a good time. Grin at pikibelle the 105 yr old fairy, that's brilliant. I didn't know this, because I is thick, but DH said to keep them rear facing in car seats for as long as possible due to their big heads/poor neck strength.

wiggles so MrW likes Sarah does he? If it wasn't for pesky old you, I reckon I'd be in with a chance with the sex legend that is Mr W [dreams wistfully]. I like the image of Anna rifling through the DVDs, N does that with the magazine rack, he very carefully goes through them, half pulling them out, then eventually gets to the one he wants and sits down for a read (usually whilst having a poo, what is it with men having to read to poo??)

I've discovered that N will eat lots of food, but only if it is at a questionable place, on the floor left by someone else and has probably been there about a week.

Four4me · 15/11/2011 16:03

Borg I have always moved mine to the forward facing car seat at 20lb/9kg. Archie is long and his head is poking over the top of the seat and his legs are bent up in the rear facing one. Grinning whilst imagining Nate still in his baby car seat on the way to his 18th birthday do with his arms and legs dangling out Grin .

Four4me · 15/11/2011 16:13

Forgot to say wiggles I hope Olivia's jabs went ok?

So much easier to keep up on here now some are back at work, I think for once I'm up to date (but don't test me)!

ledkr how are you feeling babe?

reastie · 15/11/2011 16:31

I think since people have gone back to work this thread is the quietest it's EVER been Sad . Please don't all go and leave me.

Re: car seats I am having a dilemma whether to get Alices new car seat as a rear or forward facing. I read about other countries insisting on rear facing until at least 2 years and how something like a baby is 5 times safer in a head on collision in a rear facing. It's made me Confused as I feel like if I get a forward facing one I'd never forgive myself if something happened to alice that could have been prevented in a rear facing, but at the same time I need a car seat to swap between cars easily which rear facing doesn't do so well and rear facing one I want is nearly triple the price of the forward facing one I want

deb I don't get the nn change at all Hmm

ledkr what time is the op? (so I can think about you). Will you be able to come on here after to let us know how it went or tx someone to pass on the msg please. Hope you're alright and that you get some sleep tonight

four4 good to hear from you and glad the campervan trip is out of the way Wink

tarlia have been thinking of you - how are you?

borg Grin at N eating mouldy old food on the floor - Alice was eyeing up a piece of rice cake dropped from another baby in a baby class last week

Went to baby sensory this morning and it's a new term. I'm still in the 0-6 month class and it was full of teeny tiny babies [broody] . The only unfortunate thing was alice kept trying to crawl all over them and eat them Shock - had the most Shock faces by all the pfb mums with their teeny babies Blush

Nice poo stories to read with my cup of tea Hmm

wiggles the killing - is there a new series on or something then?

Did my good turn of the week today by having MIL and her friend over this afternoon hope that means we are free from visits this week end

ManCrushedToDeathByALift · 15/11/2011 16:56

Oyoy you uncultured bunch. It's a quote from Love In A Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford. Was on a thread celebrating all things Mitford and decided to namechange for that. Will be back to normal soon I promise!

reastie I've heard the same re carseats. Imy's in a ff seat, S is still in her rf one but is tiddly so will be for a while. When she gets too big we'll put her in the safest ff one- Imy's is Norwegian and super safe, and incredibly expensive. We do some long journeys and ff is a lot less boring than rf, and I can pass toys/food etc to them, whereas for S at the moment it's a controlled lob! Do you use isofix? That's considerably safer than belted.

Did I tell you S is crawling at last? Now she crawls around crying after me a la Dilly!

Weigh day tonight, eek!! Not been good this week.

borg and wiggs is it you two who watch the Killing? In my mum's radio times this week (was delivered today) there is a KNITTING PATTERN so you can make your own killing jumper!!! Is there a new series? Should I start watching? Sell it to me...

tadjennyp · 15/11/2011 18:38

Ledkr, Angry about your Mum. Is she the type that thinks: 'you've made your bed, so you lie in it?' If what you say on these boards is a true reflection of yourself (and I'm sure it is) then your experience has helped make you into one tough, feisty lady, who is a fantastic mother and probably an amazing social worker to boot. I know when I was head of year 10, my girls would come and talk to me about MAP, pregnancy, rape, meeting people off the internet, because they knew I was on their side and 'got' them. I hope you get some sleep tonight before Dilly's op.

debka - I love a bit of Mitford! Grin

reastie - I have one of these forward and rear facing which E is still in at the moment. S is still in the infant seat as it goes up to 30lbs and we'll probably swap in a few months time.

Borg - you have a sharp sense of humour!

Four4 - glad the ear infection is over and the tooth fairy has been!

Wiggs - how did Olivia's injections go? A has to have a measles booster today or she will not be allowed to go to public schools as of Thursday Shock

S was weighed yesterday and is 21lbs4oz and 29 and a half inches! Shock He is also full of cold, poor lamb.

Hope tea time has gone well for everyone. Has anyone heard from milkmachine/knitta recently?

Grannyapple · 15/11/2011 18:40

Hi Ladies...sorry I haven't been on much, work gettin in the way & now Nate's unwell. Which remends me need your advice...

N started off with an eye infection & dribbly nose at the w/e...picked up some eyedrops from the pharmacist which has worked a treat. Sunday night, the wee man woke up a few times (v unlike him!) struggling to breath & all chesty. Dh took the day off yesterday to look after N whilst I went back to work. N was burning up yesterday so dh took him to the docs who listened to his chest etc & said it's a 'viral infection' & dose him up on calpol. Last night he was even worse...N barely managed to snatch more than 40 mins-1 hr naps (dh & I took it in turns to sleep in same room as N). He was violently sick at 10pm last night & then at 6.30 this morning (tho it was bright yellow this morning - think it was bile that came up?). He seems to start burning up as the calpol wears off after about 4 hours but need to give it to him every 6 hours. He hasn't eaten anything all day nor most of yesterday, only taking milk.

I guess I am trying to ask if I should wait til tomorrow to take him to docs again or take him to drop in/ a&e later tonight if he's still the same? What would the experienced mummies do?

Sorry, I will do another post responding to everyone, but quickly ledkr good luck for tomorrow with Dilly, it'll all be fine & jane - 4 more sleeps Grin

tadjennyp · 15/11/2011 18:46

I think if he gets any worse then take him granny. Can you use calprofen for him as it's more effective at reducing a fever?

Grannyapple · 15/11/2011 18:52

That's what I've been giving him since yesterday tad but temp is now at 38...

tadjennyp · 15/11/2011 18:53

Does the NHS Direct website give you advice as to when to take a baby to A&E for fever? Does it have to be over 39C?

WeAreBorg · 15/11/2011 19:00

granny sorry Nate is poorly, could you ring the out of hours GP tonight for some advice, they should be able to tell if it can wait. My nate is like that when he has a virus, his temp is always about 40 and he doesn't sleep and won't eat. If N is drinking milk, having wet nappies, and is playing etc. then he's probably ok but definitely ring the GP just to be sure.

tad you sound like you were a lovely teacher. Can you not teach out in the states? My brother is out there at the mo and there seem to be lots of work restrictions and things and he has to come back home soon.

Nancymitford aaah. I always get confused as to which are the fascist ones, she was the U one? . I need to read some clever books. Very exciting re jumper pattern, I'm going to get the radio times and see if my mum will knit it for me. The Killing is brilliant, very absorbing - reastie series 2 is starting n Saturday!!

Fortunately N is little so we'll keep his baby car seat for a while. I've had a spot of whiplash from really quite minor bumps so I'd worry about the effect on a baby and my driving is crap

Can I ask one of my really boring questions? Do any of the babies point at things yet? Friend has a 10mo who is pointing at things and making a sound like she is trying to say what it is. N of course doesn't. Also wondered if anyone has a baby that really wants to walk but clearly won't be doing so for a while? Nate has spindly legs and no balance but wants me to walk about with him and it's knacking my back. I'm a bit worried I'm going to have to do this for months.
