New thread just for you star!

Well, hopefully not just for you, or it could get a bit boring talking to yourself Grin.

That isn't even really whining/whinging. You'll have to try harder Wink hey! It's OK to feel frustrated by these very frustrating circumstances!
Any word on your dh's job, myjob?

HavePatience · 01/03/2012 19:48

Sorry - I don't know if that reads correctly. I wanted you to realise that you are NOT a whinger by any stretch of the imagination and you have every right to be frustrated, given your present circs :( I wish I could help you.

HavePatience · 01/03/2012 19:49

And thanks a MILLION for all of your help on my fb post. I really appreciate it :)

Q is fine and won't talk about incident at all. Played with peppa pig figures with him and he chose horses to be the preschool teachers when I asked him who the preschool teachers could be. Peppa and George went to his preschool. All good. Happy and lovely. Caring and kind. He then did bring in a rhino who was "another teacher" with no name. Rhino was quite shouty Hmm Shock and knocked over the other figures. And kicked Peppa (DS).I'm positive no teacher stomped on all of the children or kicked them, but I can gather a bit from that.

HavePatience · 01/03/2012 20:35

I hasten to add that he normally roars at characters with dinosaurs but is not typically destructive like that when playing - the way the rhino shouted and stomped on/kicked figures. He does have 'tomatoes' (tornados) with a rug but different iyswim

Well, she won't be back :)
Dh is breathing so loud at night and blows out of his mouth - yuck. Once breath starts to turn I can't deal if he's too close. Don't all grown ups breathe through their nose at night for the most part unless congested???
I'm seriously sleep deprived because of ths, waking from him blowing air from his mouth! He thinks I'm being silly. Am I?

Myjob has the new owner taken over yet at your dh's job?

Purpleprickles · 03/03/2012 18:44

Hi all! HP I'm glad that Q doesn't seem too upset by the injury. I really hope it wasn't the teacher that would be awful but at least she won't be back. I breathe through my mouth most times, especially at night. It's learnt breathing as my teeth were in a right mess as a teenager and the Orthodontist said that the position of them prevented me from breathing through my nose. Apparently I sound like Darth Vader Grin but at least after years of brace work I have straight teeth.

Myjob sorry you are feeling down, I hope you feel happier soon.

Not much to report here, ds being trying. At the moment he is slapping me and dh when he is angry which is horrible and infuriating. Today dh has withdrawn tv privileges from him which he hasn't liked but to be honest it doesn't seem to have had a dramatic effect on behaviour. Sometimes I hate being in my job as I end up over analysing everything he does and is it a sign for something more serious or just him being 3 Confused. I wanted to ask about your dc's speech too. Ds is a confident talker, always chatting but some of his speech sounds are still a bit quirky and again I compare him to my pupils and wonder if he needs help or if it will come? He does use sentences but still gets them a bit muddled from time to time, I'm trying to think of an example but can't but basically verb in wrong place. He also cannot make a thr or fr sound, which I know is common (especially as half his family is from saff London) but substitutes it for shr, so three is shree and friends is shriends. Iykwim? Probably all normal but you know how the mind likes to work either time at 3am Smile

Purpleprickles · 07/03/2012 22:59

Have I killed the thread? Blush

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/03/2012 23:09

No.

Grin

ds1 still doesn't say 's' at the beginning of words 99.5% of the time. The SALT we saw said that this wasn't expected until 3.5, so not to worry too much about it. He also muddles some other sounds at the start of words - I forget exactly what, but prob b, d, p type sounds. She also said that this was normal.
Her advice was that when he says, for eg, nake, to ask him 'is it nake or snake' and see what he says. Other than that his speech has come on masses in recent months, and he's pretty good now. It's only the 's' thing that makes other people struggle a bit sometimes to get what he's saying. That and the fact that he talks a lot of nonsense Grin.

Q used to say /n/ instead of /l/ but has now outgrown it.

He says /s/ all the time but lisps it often (I know normal for age) but about half of the time mispronounces /th/ (/f/ instead, but it's fixable).

/r/ is still closer to /w/ but I know that's developmental
He will put the /t/ at the end of many words starting with 'st'. So 'stuff' becomes 'suft' which we think is quite cute sounding but he will correct it when we model the conventional pronunciation. So there's hope.

I talk to our speech and language therapist at work when I'm unsure. I try to limit it Wink but we are also friendly anyway.

It's more the language that gets me....
"no mummy, it's not....
Dinner/supper, it's teatime
A bandaid, it's a plaster
tomato, it's tomooooooto
A truck, that's a lorry
Pants, it's trousers!"
And on
And on
Wink Grin

HavePatience · 08/03/2012 19:31

Pistachio - he puts a /t/ at the start of words? That must sound really sweet. I LOVE listening to children this age talk. It is so cute!

Purpleprickles · 08/03/2012 19:34

Thanks CSWS and Pistachio Grin I'm glad ds isn't the only one. CSWS the idea of saying 'did you mean three or shree' sounds a good one so I'll try it. Pistachio J can say thr if I break it down for him but like you say doesn't say it with the whole word. They will all come right in the end I expect. I may see if I can take ds to one of the S&L drop-ins during the school holidays if I'm still concerned.

Purpleprickles · 08/03/2012 19:37

HP I am continuing with my campaign to teach J that it is baaath not barf and glaaas not glarse, if you can imagine my accent Grin At least he has stopped dropping the 't' in words now.. (e.g. water) well for the moment. Another thing ds will do is put a regular verb ending on everything, read is readed etc. But I guess that makes logical sense really just not grammatical.

HavePatience · 08/03/2012 19:42

PP yes my ds does that with past tense as well. We just repeat it back to him, correctly as the SALT at work tells me to do with my students... So, child says "I readed that book" and I say, "oh, you read that book?" child usually says "yes, I read it"
Unless they are not ready, then they will just nod or agree, but at least they have heard the correct way. Poor example for my age group but you get the gist.

HavePatience · 10/03/2012 11:17

He also says. /b/ for /v/ and /b/ at the end of 'with' ('wib'). But no /b/ for any other /th/ odd thing
