Dixie I was going to ask if you'd used the first response one :)

Congratulations! x

Temper tantrums: Mary doesn't throw tantrums although she does have a temper. DS is more the problem on that front... I won't go there!! Mary isn't afraid to yell if something gets taken off her doesn't go her way, but on the whole she's quite easy going, especially if you approach it the right way.

She is a little clingy at the moment, but I put that down to her being a little under the weather in general - she seems to have a permanent cold, and although she is full of beans first thing in the morning, she is quite clingy and grumpy by lunch/nap time, first thing when she wakes up, and then same again in the evening.

Argh we've just had a bit of an accident, grace wanted to bring her till upstairs so she was holding the till and I was holding her and my foot completely missed the top stair and I fell forwards the till hit the wall and smacked into grace's face, she's got a bump on her head and she's bit her tongue! She didn't even cry just went into shock and started breathing really shallow she calmed down quickly but I feel so guilty! She's got a definite cut on her tongue but she's ok in herself. Do I need to worry? She's playing with the offending item now (the till) so all's good I think!

She'll be fine! If you're worried about her tongue give her an ice pop if you have ,will help with the swelling. Tongues heal amazingly quickly!

Dixiebell · 23/03/2012 19:13

Thanks all. sassy, I only have Arlo so this will be no.2. So my first challenge is my step sister's hen do next weekend - a day at Thorpe park, followed by night out. It's going to be so obvious if I don't go on any rides and don't drink! What should I do?! Wanted to keep this to ourselves (and you lot!) until 12 weeks.

Hope Grace is okay, scary how easily these things happen isn't it?

newmum001 · 23/03/2012 20:50

Dixie if I were u I'd pretend to be ill/hungover from the night before that way rides would make you sick so you couldn't go on them and you wouldn't feel like drinking at night time!

Grace is fine now, she's been a bit of a whinge again today but that's nothing unusual these days! I think she's knocking off her bedtime bottle now, she has between 2 and 4 ounces when she usually has 9! Might try her without a bottle at all tomorrow and see how we get on!

comixminx · 24/03/2012 06:55

Dixie, congratulations and fingers crossed and all that! Why wouldn't you go on the rides? They say not to go on them when pg I know, but surely they mean much more advanced stages! But then I've not been on rides for a few years. You could say you were on antibiotics or a detox or something, but frankly some people will always twig and others won't suspect.

JP, I think you've asked before and I've not replied, sorry: I'm due on the 21st August, so there will be just under two years between them hopefully.

Dixiebell · 24/03/2012 22:34

comix, It's those horrible gravity-defying rides, the amount of g-force, makes you feel like your stomach's up in your mouth, can't be good for a tiny little tiddler trying to cling on inside!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2012 22:54

I would suggest you have two choices, see if anyone notices and ask them to keep it quiet or gave some kind of tummy bug and don't go at all? I would be fine Dixiebell, don't drink and really don't like rides!

Luke is really trying to talk now, it's such a relief as ds1 was still not saying a word at Luke's age. We are enjoying the sunshine do much, Luke loves being outside and it's nice that I'm not freezing my arse off while he's out there. Also off to wimpole hall farm tomorrow to see the lambs. I've bought loads of bits for ds1's birthday party and printed the invites today, I'm so excited but very :( he's going to be 5!

comixminx · 25/03/2012 08:43

Dixie, I think nature is pretty good at keeping the tiddler in if it's going to stay in! But doesn't sound like those are the sorts of rides you enjoy much anyway, perhaps? I'd second the tummy bug excuse, or perhaps that you're just getting over one and feeling not quite right yet.

sassy34264 · 25/03/2012 10:57

had a great night at the comedy club. compere kept saying we usually have 4 comedians but we've got 5 for you tonight. everyone just thought it was an extra jobbing comedian and then he announced that the next comedian has been biking, rowing and running a lot lately and everyone was up on their feet going crazy as john bishop walked on stage. he was brilliant.
he didnt really have any gags and just sat down with a cup of tea and told funny stories about his adventure.

they were all funny as hell- keep your eye out for a bling guy called rob in the future- he was hilarious.

JParkson · 26/03/2012 12:56

Argh, I keep losing the thread!

Ok, infill, HorseWorld was lovely! I got slightly burnt as it was a gorgeous day with nary a cloud to be seen, but other than that it was fab. We took the dog with us, and he got nearly as much attention as the horses did. (one of the horses took a fancy to him, and he didn't know what to make of this gert big Shire poking his nose at him!)

They only have a few horses & ponies there - 15 to 20 or so, as well as donkeys, goats, pigs, and some llamas or something similar lol

The main work they do is carried out on the neighbouring farm, and as the horses are in delicate/distressing conditions, they stay there until they are up to facing the public.

DH liked it a lot, and commented how clean it was - true, hardly any loose straw/hay flitting about like you see at regular yards, even some of the farm parks we've been to.

DS got his mitts on a pony to groom, (Mary had a bash too!) and they ran some free games for the kids, which he won one of them, and came a close 2nd in the other.

Mary loved it too, and was very happy running around, longing to play on the equipment there (was big chunky jungle-gym type play equipment, and crawling with Brownies, so I had to disuade her from playing on that). She had fun chasing chickens though!

Congrats comix and I'm due on 6th at the mo (might end up popping closer to you though, I suspect!)

Dixie I went horseriding at 10 weeks with Mary, but I know it's not the same. The way I see it is, if you hadn't picked up on your late period, would you still go and ride the rides? It's like drinking I suppose - some mums-to-be drink/ride/rollercoaster in the early stages and don't realise they're pg. Thinking about both DS and Mary's pgs, I did do silly things like that, and they're both fine so far, I think!

At the end of the day, it's obviously up to you, if you're nervous about it all, then I'd play the 'had tummy bug, still feeling rough enough not to drink/rollercoaster' card

Sassy what fun! I quite like JB in small doses - I can't sit through one of his shows on tv, but as a guest on programmes, he does have me in stitches!

lumpylumps · 27/03/2012 20:28

Dixie I'm gonna go against everyone else. The way I see it is these rides advise pregnant ladies to stay off. I appreciate its as much for them as for us but imo if you went on & anything then happened to the baby, even tho it wouldn't be to blame, you always would. Does that make sense?! I waffle a bit on these things!

Hope everyones ok. I had a fab night in harrogate for my cousins weekend & have had 2 great days in the garden enjoying the sun. Olly now looks like a beaten child. He fell down some wooden steps yesterday & got got by a cat today. He's got an awful scratch on his arm!

Hope the poorly babies are feeling better.

Saoirse where you gone??

Glad you had a good time sassy34264, I like John bishop doing stand up but find his presenting a bit cheesy!

I am really not a horsey person JParkson but glad you enjoyed yourself. I have made a new friend at school who dd is in ds1's class and her ds is 2 months younger than Luke and she has two horses, I'm amazed by her dedication but she really is mad about any horses!

Glad you a good time lumpylumps, I think everyone is enjoying the sun it's so lovely to be outside! I took the boys with me walk the dog last night and didn't feel guilty about it as they enjoyed being out in the forest! Luke was in his trike and now he's got the hang of steering it's a bit scary as it veers off to one side suddenly!! Might take him in it on the school run today :)

Hope everyone who's around and absent is well x

MammyG · 28/03/2012 13:08

Hi all
I have to apologise - I have turned into such a lurker. Just about checking in and reading then no time to post. On my luch break at the moment.
Time is just flying by - i feel like a hamster in a wheel at the moment. I just blink and another week is gone by. Its a bit depressing. Me-time is non existant at the mo. the kids are all well bar the odd sniffle and generally good. DH is enjoying is partime new working hours and as he is home two evenings a week its novel for me. I just seem to be so busy and its all routine and the next thing to do!hopefully the easter holidays will shake things up a little
Dixie Congrats...how exciting!
Would love to go on holiday. Damn recession. Havent been on a holiday in 8 years ---prob no wonder cracks begining to show! Hmm

Dixiebell · 28/03/2012 18:21

Thanks for the congrats. lumpy, I agree. If I went on not knowing I was pg and then found out, I wouldn't worry about having done it, but knowingly doing it against advice even if the risk is minuscule...I can't justify it! Still trying to decide what to do. I don't think there are any rides which don't have the warning so could be a bit of a dull (yet expensive!) day for me...

lumpylumps · 28/03/2012 19:59

can't believe i went to work this morning!!! As if days aren't busy enough without a pointless trip to work thrown in! Not that I'm moaning. It was the best feeling ever! (for those not on fb, i got to work to find i'm actually on annual leave!)

We've had a fantastic day. Went into town & bought a paddling pool then spent the day in the garden.

Those of you who've had experience of bad nappy rash recently. what worked. My friends dd is really suffering!

newmum001 · 28/03/2012 20:26

Bepanthem lumpy! Grace has had really bad acid poos from teething on and off and it's the only thing that's worked. I think it might be cinnamon who said she didn't find it very good but it's worked for grace when nothing else has.

Dixie I think you've made the right decision regarding the rides!

Debs75 · 29/03/2012 08:52

BEpanthen for us too. It doesn't work if they are constantly pooing though, they need a good 12 hours without pooing for their bum to get a break. If she can handle no nappies for a while then her bum will get some great fresh air and feel loads better. Does mean a lot of cleaning up though

newmum001 · 29/03/2012 10:07

I agree with leaving nappies off for as long as she can bear it too! Also the dr told us not to use wipes when grace's bum was particularly sore just to use cotton wool/tissue and warm water!

patito · 29/03/2012 21:06

Congratulations dixie. I dont think Id go on either. I think Id just lie Blush, tummy bug/antibiotics etc thing should cover it.

will let you know when Im next over sassy, will probably be towards end of the summer/autumn.

Well in the end I didn´t get the stomch flu that bad and was ok for the weekend, but poor DS got a high fever Saturday night and spent all day Sunday (his Birthday) being sick. He didn´t even have the energy to open his presents! We´d organised a BBQ with his friends and it was such a lovely day for it. We´ve re-scheduled for this weekend but the weather isn´t too promising. I took both DS and Maia to DRs on Tuesday for their 4 yrs and 18 mth check up, they´re both fine but a bit on the skinny side (both over 95% on height and below 10% on weight!). Hardly surprising seen as they´ve not eaten for a week really though!

JParkson · 29/03/2012 22:09

Oh bless them patito I hope the weather does hold for you to bbq

lumpy, I have to confess I'm a Sudocrem fan. I've used sample packs of bepanthen before, and it does work, but I've never bought it as I think it's quite expensive. Mary is prone to sore bottoms every now and again, especially when she's teething, and I slather on the Sudocrem, and it clears up quite quickly I find.

cinnamon if I could have a horse in my pathetic excuse for a handkerchief garden, I would! But having to make do with a scatty Dal instead until I kick the kids out funds allow me to own one of my own. I have a friend who owned her first horse when she was 50, so there's plenty of time for me yet...! lol Hats off to your friend though, as I used to help out at a farm where they had 7 hunters, and DH banned me I had to bid farewell when I fell pg with Mary. They still have my crash cap though, so once Pickle is at nursery, I shall be battering the stable door down again!! :o

cinnamongreyhound · 29/03/2012 22:23

I third the having nappy off as much as possible and yes it was me who didn't think much to bepanthum. I love sudocrem, except in hair or on carpets! Metanium is quite good, a funny yellow colour if I remember correctly. Perhaps some skin just suits some creams better?

Your poor ds patito what a horrible way to spend his birthday, I'm sure no matter what the weather you'll all have a great time on Saturday.

JParkson she has them at a local stable and goes every day when she's dropped her dd at school. Before she had her dc she worked with horses, I just don't get it!

I booked reasonably last minute tickets to see peppa pig at Cambridge corn exchange next week and I'm so excited! Taking 5 kids including Luke, dh is having to take our car and I'm taking my stepdads as we only have a 5 sweater and then dh and dss will go off to the museums while we're at peppa pig then we'll meet up for McDonald's afterwards (don't tell Ofsted I'm feeding children junk food!). Luke loves it so much in the morning on tv and grabbed a George pig t-shirt off the rail in next, which I bought of course! Every time he wears it he tells everyone it's George! New word to add to his vocabulary along with tractor and something vaguely close to milk.

I bought him a book he loves at a toddler group we go to but it had to be second hand as no longer published and although it said very good condition it was ripped and marked so I have to send it back :(

Oh and he wore his first pair of pyjamas tonight, not a baby at all anymore!!
