Aaaaahhhhhh, bunk beds. They had another go at sending us the right part. They got someone to write an email in German to the manufacturer, explaining the problem in words of one syllable. The manufacturers responded, saying Yes Yes, we understand, we'll send you the right part. A parcel duly arrived, with FOUR spare parts in it. None of them fitted.

Once I'd drunk the whole bottle of gin, I told them to take the sodding beds away, remove them from my sight, and ordered some proper ones from Warren Evans. They are made in the UK, environmentally friendly, and fecking expensive. But they deliver them to your door, take them upstairs, build them for you and remove the packaging. They are coming on Tuesday, if I can find someone to open the door to the nice men, as I am in Reading and DP is in London.

The old ones are dismantled and stacked in the spare room. The company have offered us a full refund and booked a courier to come and get them, but I have thrown away the packaging months ago, back when I still had hope instead of bunk bed despair, and don't have any boxes big enough. I asked them to book removals men so that I didn't have to pack them, and they said 'Couldn't I put them in bin bags?' Angry Angry Angry

Given that they have already refunded £150, I'm starting to wonder whether I just stick them on eBay and say buyer collects. They work perfectly well as two separate beds, it's just the joining together bits that don't work.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 17/03/2012 19:01

Zulu nice to see you! Sorry to hear that you're working too much - I know how you feel. What is your plan? I'm intrigued.

Auld, I hope all is not too hideous. Dare I ask about the housing issue? And moving (or not, hopefully) to the horrible town?

Wink

Bicnod you are doing such a superstar thing feeding that baby. How old is J now? You might find if the milk is just not available that he just lives without when you're at your training course.

Work - hmmmm. March is always a really busy time in the public sector, everyone's trying to spend their budget before year end, and I haven't got anyone into my old job yet so am still doing two jobs at once. So it's been pretty full on, but I think I'm making progress on lots of things that have just been stalled until I took over, so I think I'm making a good impression. I hope. Otherwise I'm shattered for no reason! Orbit isn't well today so he and I had a sneaky nap on the sofa after lunch while DS1 watched the Jungle Book. It was bliss Grin

Am also trying to lose weight/become less unfit so have been going to the gym two-three times a week. It's actually working - I am thinner! Who knew?! Just got to keep it up.

PuzzleRocks · 17/03/2012 19:40

Ebay them. I would after all the hassle.

I don't need an excuse the drink a whole bottle of gin. Blush I am working through one now.

Oh, sorry to disappoint. It's not a very interesting plan- I'm allowed to call a job plan review meeting after 3 months and I'm going to ask to work one less day so I'd be down to 3 (and on-call). They might not say yes though!

WFH, DS fell asleep cuddling on the sofa with me too. This is unheard of, and it was lovely. He's coughing in bed now though, which explains why! You sound busy- take it easy.

ZuluWarrior · 17/03/2012 21:25

Mmmm gin

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2012 12:49

Happy Mother's Day you gorgeous women xx

Bicnod · 18/03/2012 21:58

Happy mother's day beautiful ladies :)

Quick catch up.

Auld - sorry things are boo :( sending lots of hugs and empathy. If you ever feel like a rant you know my number xx

Zulu - fingers crossed for getting down to 3 days a week - that's what I was doing after O and it felt very do-able. I'm right there with you re: DH stuff - we are not doing very well at the moment and we haven't actually done the deed since J was born Blush - combination of stress (moving house/DH starting new job/new baby), massive sleep deprivation and zero sex drive on my part (hoping that's down to the BFing - I seem to remember things picked up a bit after I stopped feeding O). I can't help but think if we got the sex life sorted everything else would be ok, but just can't bring myself to do anything about it as I'm so bloody knackered. Ah well.

WFH - hurrah for Warren Evans :) and yes, definitely ebay them. J is 8 months old now - we're down to 3 feeds a day (one early morning, one at some point during the day - usually after lunch- and one before bed) which I worry isn't enough but I think probably is as he eats LOADS and has a lot of dairy + tippy cups of water or cow's milk with meals/snacks. Training course is a week tomorrow so will just feed him before his bath rather than after it and DH will have to cuddle him to sleep through the tears when he puts him to bed :( I'll be home by 9.45pm so if he's still going by then I can sort him out, but fingers toes arms and legs crossed that by some miracle it just works out.

Sooooo... meet up at Easter - who's up for it? At the moment it's:

Schulte
Puzzle
Bicnod

Sorry - haven't read that back and looks a bit ranty. Off to bed as cream crackered.

xx

PuzzleRocks · 19/03/2012 07:40

It does fix things, ours had been back on track for a good 6 months now (about six months after stopping feeding). We are closer than ever. Of course it helps that the girls are almost 5 and 3 but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I had virtually no drive whilst feeding and I fed for over four years without a break between girls. When I say the libido came flooding back with a vengeance that is a massive understatement. Grin
I hope I haven't put anyone off their breakfast.

Bicnod and Puzz, you have made me feel a lot better. And, since you mention it, now I am doing half and half formula and breast, and my periods have started again, I can feel it all coming back, like a long lost friend. Woohoo! I thought I was destined to be a frigid old maid Blush Grin

bebemoojem · 19/03/2012 21:11

Hope everyone had a lovely UK Mother's Day. xx

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 22/03/2012 11:02

At home with a bad cold and dizzy head today, so Orbit and I are watching too much Thomas the Tank Engine on the sofa, and I am trying to ignore the tip that is my house. We are also trying out pants again, so far so good.

Sex life definitely improves after giving up bf. Also when children start sleeping through the night there's another improvement. And when they turn about two ish, I found I was less exhausted and more interested in DP.

New bunk beds arrived on Tuesday. Can heartily recommend Warren Evans - they phoned on Friday to confirm the day and a three hour time slot, then phoned on Tuesday morning to give a one hour time slot, turned up on time, built the beds, and went away. Marvellous. DS1 was so excited he let out a shriek that sounded like he was being murdered, and he and Orbit played on the beds all evening. Only minor snag is that Orbit can get up on the top bunk, but can't get down unaided. This means whenever he wants to get down, he shrieks for Mummy. And I am frequently two floors away. Angry

Still have the old ones stacked up. We are having another go at getting them collected next week, have purchased parcel tape and will try and wrap cardboard round them a bit. That's all they're getting.

Orbit's birthday is next week. Can't believe my tiny one is going to be three. Who allowed this to happen?

PuzzleRocks · 23/03/2012 12:26

How are you feeling today? I'm so glad you finally have your bunkbeds.

OP posts:
BB3 · 24/03/2012 07:26

Yay for bunk beds but boo for colds!

I'm in complete denial about birthdays! I haven't planned anything or even thought of present ideas or even what cake!!!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 24/03/2012 09:37

I feel pretty rubbish actually. Went to work yesterday but was totally exhausted last night. Didn't even have a glass of wine with my takeaway. Shock

I think I've been in denial about birthdays as well. Have done nothing about it, so am frantically Amazon shopping right now. DP has bought him a present already so it's not too bad, but I think we are going to lie about the day as DP is away on Thursday, so Orbit's official birthday will be Saturday. Probably the last year we can do that! Grin

Orbit is currently 'skating' round the lounge on two DVD cases. The boy lives entirely in a fantasy world. I have one utterly literal realist and one fantasist. Makes life interesting Grin

PuzzleRocks · 24/03/2012 10:40

I don't think I have ever been so ill that I eschewed booze. Shock

I have done all my present buying for both my April girls. Ellen wanted a camera, a proper digital camera. So we find ourselves in the strange position of having bought a camera for her with a much better spec than our elderly one at a tiny fraction of the price we paid for ours. I think we need to upgrade.

OP posts:
WhatFreshHellIsThis · 24/03/2012 13:29

DS1, who turns six in April, is also getting a camera. We looked at all the ones designed for kids and they were RUBBISH. So we too have bought him a reasonably good point and click digital.

I did find myself eyeing up some of the cameras for myself, even though there's nothing really wrong with ours. Hmmmmmmmm.

Beeyootiful weather here. First BBQ of the year.

PuzzleRocks · 24/03/2012 20:17

No barbecue here but a very tidy looking garden and a well earned gin & tonic. Are you feeling any better?

OP posts:
WhatFreshHellIsThis · 24/03/2012 23:25

Yes, cold has reached stage of endless hacking and nose blowing, but no more shivers or feeling sick. Back on the gin Wink

Orbit is trying my patience sorely. He has been rotten today and even bit his brother on the eye. Shock It's quite impressive if it's not your child doing it, I spose.

bebemoojem · 26/03/2012 22:01

WFH are you feeling better yet? Is Orbit still trying your patience?

I too am feeling panicky abt the birthday...3! 3! tho she seems to have been 2 for aaaages. Not sure what I should do abt the cake...I was going to make a <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.instructables.com/image/FCXB9NZF3NHSGJB/Fire-Breathing-Dragon-Cake.jpg&imgrefurl=www.instructables.com/id/Fire-Breathing-Dragon-Cake!!/&h=420&w=560&sz=31&tbnid=JIhz4QMIaB89fM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=120&zoom=1&docid=M4V30hXmMbBhAM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=qddwT-vsDYmg0QXQvNiNAg&ved=0CCwQ9QEwAA&dur=3833" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">3D dragon because she said she'd like one but when I made the little one she didn't want to eat it, rather be it's friend and play with it... so now... not sure. She did say the other day she wanted a fairy cake the other day too when she saw one in a book.

bebemoojem · 29/03/2012 10:47

Happy Birthday to the LO's that are turning three this week/end!
So it begins... :D

PuzzleRocks · 29/03/2012 11:01

Bugger.

Happy Belated Birthday wishes to Violet and Alexander.

And Many Happy Returns to Orbit xx

OP posts:
WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/03/2012 14:11

Ah, thank you! We have been bad parents......DP had a meeting in London he simply couldn't get out of today, so we have told Orbit his birthday is on Saturday. Blush Blush Probably the last year we can get away with that one!

But I felt bad about not doing anything today so I have just taken him out for pizza and icecream. And bought him some Cat in the Hat pencils. He has no idea why Mummy has suddenly had this fit of generosity. Grin

BB3 · 29/03/2012 18:24

Wfh - Grin!!

Happy birthday to our April babies - although they are not babies anymore I guess xxx

ZuluWarrior · 31/03/2012 16:06

We lied to Sandy too and told him his birthday was on Monday because I was working on Tuesday. We had a perfect day at Blair Drummond Safari park in the lovely sunshine. Nobody had a tantrum, argument or breakdown, ice-cream was eaten, the animals were fantastic. Happy birthday to the other three-year-olds!

bebemoojem · 02/04/2012 09:57

Happy Birthday to all the los that have birthday's this week and weekend. Hope everyone has a wonderful time.
