Not so scary watching it from here...there were (racially motivated) riots in Oldham about 3 months before I came out to NZ, the atmosphere round town was awful.

The headline in our main paper today was "Wet weather on the way", yes, some people think it's a bit dull and remote here but hey...

I'm intrigued by "paintbox spring" too Grin.

G is on the mend, she even started smiling and giggling again this afternoon.

Hope your day gets better chulita

CakeandRoses · 07/08/2011 10:12

Oh dear memph never a good mix!

Grin at your headline wss

colour analysis is part of what i'll be doing if/when i set up the image consultancy. In essence, everyone has a type or 'season' which suits certain colours, the main thing is whether you are cool or warm colouring but there's further categorisation after that. Spring is my season (warm and clear) and the paintbox bit is because i suit bright colours rather than the paler ones of many Springs (there are other names for the other types of Springs)

it was frankly shocking how different the colours made me look - especially my eyes. i had a pretty good idea of what i suit anyway but i found new colours i had never tried, i also realised that the shade is important (eg i knew i suit navy blue but didn't know it has to be a light/bright navy but it explains why some of my navy clothes don't look as nice as i thought they would)

Glad G is starting to get better wss. It's so horrible when they're like that. You feel so sorry for them yet so fruatrated cos you can't do anything without them crying.
Cakes i'm intrigued to hear about your colours appointment
Chulita I really really feel for you about dh going away. You're right to just get away up to your house cos you'll have company up there and you love it. Do your parents know that you're pregnant?
Well went out last night and it was a brilliant night! I love girls nights. Think i'm still drunk so hangover hasn't kicked in yet

kkfairybrains · 07/08/2011 10:19

X post cakes! That sounds brilliant! So are you going on a shopping spree now?! I have a good idea of what suits me too but i'd still love to get it done.

CakeandRoses · 07/08/2011 10:33

kk sounds a great night! how're coping today or has the hangover yet to kick in?

it's well worth having your colours done imo, as wanky as it sounds it is based on proper fact/science (i know this as i already know a lot about colour for my job as do you for yours no doubt)

twas really surprising the difference the shades made - i love sea blues & greens but the muted/murky ones don;t suit me any where near as well as the clear bright ones like turquoise (which is happily my fave colour). it's hard to work all this out unless you've got all the different colours being draped on you in natural light without makeup on.

i have already got lots of basic in the right colours (eg dark grey, choc brown, navy rather than black as i knew that didn't suit me but have lots of gaps in my 'new' colours so will def be shopping lots Smile. i've been holding off buying clothes lately until i had my colours done.

next week, i'm going back to the same consultant for a style day. tis v interesting too as they work out what shapes and styles suit you (even down to the shape of your jewellery) based on your body-shape and personality and how to manage your wardrobe etc

CakeandRoses · 07/08/2011 10:33

sorry i just asked you exactly the same thing as you'd already said re hangover Blush

Hi all,

I'm still here. Didn't get chance to post due to various things (jabs - M, migraine - me and some other unpleasent things that are best not dwelled on).

However, the big and amazing news is ... drumroll ...

fLast Friday some friends and their 8 year old daughter took M out ffor over an hour without DP and me and she had a wonderffull time. They went on the trampolines in the park and the 8 year old bounced M on it and everytime she was in the air she giggled so much. First they went for ice cream (they didn't tell me but I'm sure they gave her loads as she didn't sleep a wink the ffollowing night, but hey, I don't blame them) where she apparently cried and grizzled but then she had a really nice time. They only came back after an hour cos it started to rain, otherwise they would have stayed out.

So that was the first time without DP or me in over 6 monthsff. I'm so pleased and delighted. fTomorrow we'll meet with the nanny and I'm much more hopeful about that now, too.

wss I told DP about your headline and he immediately said, let's move there :-) Sometimes I really wish I was a bit further away ffrom all the scary stories, be it Tottenham burning or the ffffinancial collaps. Oh well, I'm doing my best to ignore it.

cakef Having the colour thing done sounds amazing. I have absolutely no idea what suits me, so could really do with something like that. Maybe once we're back in the UK and I'm no longer pregnant, fat and breastfeeding Grin

Sorry for not having read back much ffurther. Will try and catch up. Have a super Sunday all.

kkfairybrains · 07/08/2011 11:50

Aw trudy that's brilliant! Fingers crossed everything goes well with the nanny!
Cakes thats actually something I wouldn't have thought if with the different shades of the same colour. Is it making you more confident to go ahead with the franchise? it's probably something I'd never have done cos i'll never have the money but I can always dream!
Hangover starting to kick in ugh!
My mum is bringing E on holidays next weekend! They're going down to wexford to a little cottage by the sea with my aunt and her grandaughter and their friend and her son! From friday until sunday. I won't know what to do with myself!

memphis83 · 07/08/2011 14:11

cakes sounds great, I dont know what suits me all I know is lilac makes me look massive and pastey! would love to know what is good for me more with hair colour and make up choices than clothes though.
selling stuff on ebay and nothing is going for much, wont be making much money this time, L is in bed crying as he doesnt want to go sleep but he only had 10 mins after swimming this morning, then we got home and realised I had taken door key from set of keys and we were locked out, fil has a key...he is in London and we didnt have mobile phones, luckily I went to a friends and by chance my mum was only about 10 miles away so we got in after a while!

viksam · 07/08/2011 19:35

trudy thats ace about M, i bet ur relieved.
wws the riots are just shamefull and a real reflection of what the mood is like here i think, no one seems happy.
chu id hate dh to go away for that long, i bet he hates it to.
cake the colours thing is interesting, i wonder what they would say for a pasty fat ginger thing??
advice/opinions please I have just put D to bed with him showing a temp of 38.8 at the highest reading, he was slightly trembly, slightly cold hands and feet and refused his milk point blank. He has rancid nappys, tmi....greenish brown and sticky and SMELLY!! Hes teething like mad but i can't really see much going on, he's been really clingy the last few days, not like him at all, but he's not too bad in himself. I think its just the temp thing thats alarmed me and the trembling, what do u guys think???

memphis83 · 07/08/2011 19:41

viksam I would ring nhs direct for advice, when did he have his MMR? L has had awful sour smelling nappies and tonight he has been trembling, and he had his MMR on wednesday, but he hasnt got a temperature.

so quiet on here this weekend, Ive got work tuesday and thursday, dad is visiting wednesday and tomorrow I look after my nan so ive already packed L's Trunki for us leaving on friday!

viksam · 07/08/2011 19:53

thanks memphis i have been on the web site but when ever i have rang them they have always said to take him him in somewhere. I dont think they are prepaired to take a chance with babies. He hasnt had his MMR yet, i couldnt make the appointement last week so im just waiting for a new one. Sorry cant remember where ur going on friday? sounds like u have a busy week, how are u feeling now after being so poorly...........and so drunk!!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/08/2011 20:15

trudy Im glad she had a good time, must make you feel alot more confident now.

D knackered himself out at my mums again today, its her birthday and we had a BBQ even though it rained v hard for about half an hour so we ate inside. When it did stop raining D soaked himself in the paddling pool she bought for him (£3 from tesco!) so he went round naked for the rest of the day.

Im leaving him with my mum on Fri whilst my friend and I go to a spa. I was a bit worried he'd miss me but after spending so much time there and basically blanking me all day Im sure he'll be fine Grin

Hes got his jabs tomorrow :( really not looking forward to those.

Woodlands · 07/08/2011 20:48

good news trudy!

Mmm spa sounds good dh. Hope the jabs go OK - I was pleasantly surprised last week that the actual jabs were fine, J barely cried. I just held his hand and didn't look at the needles.

We had our NCT first birthday picnic today - we haven't got together for about six months so it was lovely to see all the babies and catch up with everyone. We exchanged lucky dip presents and one of the mums had baked a massive toadstool cake. The heavens opened right at the end so it was a rushed clear up and dash for the cars but we had a good time!

CakeandRoses · 07/08/2011 21:45

vik can you call your GP for advice out of hours? ours will talk about stuff over the phone and then will give you an out of hours appt if necessary. assume you've given him calpol or similar?

memph the shade really makes a difference. i went thru my clothes earlier and there's more gaps than i first thought and also more black to get rid of (loads of black dresses and a few tops) than i remembered Sad

I've looked at my clothes and realised that the ones which provoked the most compliments are in 'my colours', ditto photos where i look nice. tis quite incredible.

not sure a toadstool cake teaches children the right thing to do on seeing one woodlands Grin but sounds cute

the party we went to earlier, they'd made an amazing gruffalo cake!

you ok mlic? been quiet

CakeandRoses · 07/08/2011 21:50

oh and kk need your advice again when you have a mo please. another hair mare.

I decided to colour it darker again using a permanent one as the semi only lasted a few washes as the base was so light after the previous perm colour. anyway, i stupidly chose far too dark/red (it's a 4) a colour thinking i needed to go extra dark to cover up the light forgetting my hair was more porous and would take the colour anyway Sad

i hate the colour it's turned out - it;s really fake-looking, which isn;t me. will try to upload a pic of it plus a good one of my natural colour. how can i get back to something like my natural colour please?

i've bought yet another dye (a 5) which looks miles more natural and like my colour. if i use that will it work or do i need to somehow remove the darker one first?

arrgghh! wish i'd never started this!

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 08/08/2011 09:52

This is why I advise against home colouring cake! No colour won't lift colour so don't put another one in. the worst thing is it's permanant. You don't need a permanant! There's a colour you can get that's in between a semi and a permanent and that's what you should be doing.

Anyway back to now. The colour needs to be stripped from your hair. You can go to the hairdresser to have it done and it won't be too harsh on your hair as you only need it lifted a shade or 2. Or you can try doing something yourself. Washing up liquid and head and shoulders are supposed to lift colour out of your hair over time. My advise would be to go and get it done properly.
Vik how is D today?

viksam · 08/08/2011 11:00

woodlands ur picnic sounds nice, i never got on with my NCT people they were sooooo pro BF and the only group that was held in my area was a bf group, which clearly i wasnt welcome at Sad
cake Yes i gave him calpol at 7, he slept soundly till between 3 and 4 when he became really restless and uncomfortable so i gave him nurofen and he slept till 8 and seems absolutly fine this morning so i have no idea what that was all about.
SCAN TODAY!! why do i feel scared? Have to take D with us so i hope he is ok for it, if i remember it took quite a long time last time.
cake did having ur colours done make u dye ur hair again? Do they advise on hair and make up too? Hey if we send u pictures of us could u do ours.........as practice!!!
Can not be arsed today...........for anything, feel lazy and selfish. DH will be home for the scan at 2 and hes staying home then so thats good.

kkfairybrains · 08/08/2011 14:49

Looks lovely cake! What did you do?
How was it camping with baby melissA?

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/08/2011 15:47

cake it looks really good!

D did NOT like his jabs, well I knew he wouldnt but he sobbed and sobbed it was really horrible. He was fine as soon as they were over though.

Ive been to the group where those 2 girls go who I was meant to meet up with last week, they didnt say anything. They acted as if it never happened. I didnt ignore them but I wasnt as friendly as I used to be and talked to other people more.
Then at the end before we were going they were whispering to each other in the corner something about 'being stressy' might have been something completely different but I wouldnt put anything past them now.

Woodlands · 08/08/2011 15:54

You must be glad the jabs are over, dh!

Terrible night with J last night (by current standards - we were up from 2ish till 4.30ish and then he was in bed with us so I didn't sleep well till we were all up at 7). I did not enjoy having to work at 8am after that! Went to get J from nursery at 1.30, brought him home and he was so shattered he's been in bed since 1.45 and is still asleep now - so I have just been back to bed. SHeer bliss! DH is unexpectedly free this afternoon so we are going to take J swimming when he wakes up.

MalibuStac · 08/08/2011 17:44

Hi all, had lost you as I haven't posted. Not caught up as loads going on. Will be back later. Hope alls well.
