wiggles thanks for updating everything, my DH is also chief packer, he is a bit OCD with it and spends ages putting things into piles and folding them like they do in the shops etc. Yes it's a trekkie name can't recall who asked, not only do I have a fat arse but am a nerd as well Smile
irish i'm in newcastle, splitting the week between dundee and glasgow must be a pain. (i will qualify this but admitting I don't really know where they are).
reastie i have been loitering on the sleep threads and something quite useful was the ask moxie site (not sure if spelling is correct), they said that some babies cry "up" i.e. get more and and more distressed when you leave them and want to be rocked etc, but some cry "down" and basically want to be left. Nate often wriggles and kicks when I'm trying to comfort him but if I put him down he (sometimes) yelps for a bit then goes to sleep, it might not apply to you but might be worth a go. I am too chicken to leave him for more than 2mins then I just have to pick him up again! He too used to settle really well but I think he goes too long between naps now. bedtime ok though thank goodness.
tadjenny was it you who was feeding ++++. I have been BF 2 hourly for the past few days, not sure when it will stop? Is there a 4month growth spurt?

WeAreBorg · 14/06/2011 11:38

quick random question (s) of the day, are any of your babies playing with their feet yet? Nate seems really inflexible Confused
also is anyone in pushchairs rather than the carrycot thing, and if so do you face them forwards or facing you?

Emski76 · 14/06/2011 11:55

Byron, love the pics, esp the pool one!
Jack, welcome back. Glad the babes are doing well.
I've just read up on weetabix for babies, as have been feeding Noah a quarter a day for the last week, and apparently babies shouldn't have it until 6 months as it contains gluten. Am feeling a bit guilty but will buy some baby porridge for him instead. He's just eaten half a mashed banana, he's an absolute piggy! It literally took 30 seconds! He's now on his play mat shrieking at the toys!
Borg, Noah loves his buggy, it faces out so he can have a good nose around. I put him in the pram bit if I want him to sleep, but he's getting too big for it.
He sometimes grabs his feet but I think by accident! Just been to playgroup and there were two babies there the same age as him and they were so much more active while Noah was very vocal!

reastie · 14/06/2011 12:21

no bolds afraid as one handed.

byron - love the piccie by the pool. made me a little Envy of living in greece

suzy - have you got baby sensory tomoro? we had fathers day spesh - do you want to know what you're in for or shall we compare notes tomoro?

borg - we use car seat on travelsystem so she faces me and no actual feet play yet, just general kicks

jack - we are both well thanks - great to hear both twins are sleeping through Grin

thanks for comments re: bedtime. i think its just she feels lonely in her cot or something as she will seriously scream for ages until i pick her up (patting abd comforting does sod all) when she'll shut up and be fine. it's odd - in the day she's ok generally at self settling and after first feed of morning she goes in cot awake fine and self settles.dont know what it is but want to break the cycle quick as it gets worse every night. we try dummy, light show and mobile whoever suggested that Confused

well, i went to tesco after baby sensory to buy the entire stock a couple of bits and get a passport piccie for a new driving liscence. last time i got a passport piccie it was about £3 so I made sure I had enough in change only to discover it had gone up to five squid - five squid for 4 tiny pictures Shock [tight wad] . I only had £4.95 in change which is really Angry as I blow dried my hair and actually put make up on especially Hmm

emski H has been having baby rice at tea time for a few days and he loves it! He also has banana at lunch and I have to ration it or he would eat the whole thing, so I have a piggy too!

weareborg I am in Newcastle too!!!!!!! I didnt realise there was anyone on here up in my neck of the woods! how exciting! H is in the pushchair bit and I have it facing me. He has found his feet and it is his favourite thing now, forget the many expensive toys he has, he would rather stare at his toes!

reastie do you think maybe she is overtired by nightime and that could be why she is screaming? If she self settles in the morning then it seems that she has the skills? H had a period of screaming before bed (proper end of the world screams) So we brought bedtime forward to 6.30/7pm with a 45 minute catnap somewhere around 4 or 5pm and this has made a huge difference as he is still tired at bedtime, but not screamingly so!

janedoe25 · 14/06/2011 13:33

Hi ladies, my friend cancelled on me,so im farting about on here instead!

Hi jack nice to hear from you again, bet those girls of yours have you run ragged!

reastie how was baby sensory this week? Shock at the price of passport photos!

byron Love the pics!

byronicheroine · 14/06/2011 13:49

thanks guys :) although it's been raining here all afternoon... I finally ventured out to get some photos printed up (father's day lazy present - in IKEA frame) and three old ladies stopped me to have a cluck, which I don't mind, and to ask if ds was ok "in the rain". I was a bit Hmm as he has his pram cover on and was mostly under my umbrella! I wanted to tell them that no, he wasn't ok - he melts! but my Greek isn't really up to that, so I had to settle with yes, he's ok - he's half English ha ha ha.
jane I secretly like it when people cancel (sometimes, obviously, not) as it gives you real ME time MN time Grin as you are not 'supposed' to be doing anything. enjoy!

debka · 14/06/2011 13:56

Hi everyone, welcome back jackfrost, remind me what your girls are called?

Thanks to all for kind comments about my ma, she seems to have picked up a bit today.

irishqueen, reastie and possibly others, S is being a proper madam about naps ATM, she used to just go in her cot awake and drop straight off, now she is refusing- this morning she cried for 15 minutes, then DH went in and got her, put her back down after 15 minutes and she cried for half an hour. Imy would always cry for a bit before sleeping but then drop off, S either goes straight to sleep or yells forever. In the end I got her up and fed her, then we went to the farmers market where she happily went round in her sling being cooed at by old women. She is now asleep in the car. I think I'm going t wake her up soon, she's still feeding 3x a night, so want to get as much milk into her as possible during the day.

em it's not just the gluten, it's the wheat too in the weetabix that they can be allergic too. But if he's had it and not reacted then I he should be fine I would imagine.

reastie that must have been really annoying. But just wait until you find out how much a passport renewal costs now....!!

debka · 14/06/2011 13:57

byron forgot to say, loved the pics- and get the legs on YOU!!! Grin Envy

Emski76 · 14/06/2011 14:03

Reastie, I second what Suzy said ref bedtime. Noah sleeps for half hour after 4.30pm each day and we make sure he's having his last bottle two hours later and he goes to bed fine (hope I haven't cursed it now!). The few times he took hours to go down was when he hadn't had his late nap or we'd left bedtime too late. Maybe try Alice with late afternoon nap.
Deb, Noah only lasts around half hour or so for naps in his cot. I have to lay him on his side and rock him for up to 15 minutes! I hope S improves, she was always my star napper!
Thanx re weetabix. Will go for baby porridge until Noah us six months.

americanexpat · 14/06/2011 14:29

irishqueen - I'm in Dundee! Does your partner live here?

L woke at 6.30 this morning, I popped him in his swing where he was calm for a while then the crying started. He only stopped crying long enough to yawn but wouldn't go to sleep. DH got up at 7.30 and let me go back to bed for a while longer. I think I need to readjust my expectations, wanting him to sleep is causing me so much frustration in the mornings but I'm so desperate for sleep myself. Apparently he cannot self-settle. If it was a bit of whinging, I wouldn't mind, but it's proper red face thrashing around crying.

I tried to speak with the HV today about it (diff one than usual) and she was no help whatsoever. Just kept repeating "put him to bed at the first yawn" and indicating it was time for me to leave. No shit, I do exactly that, which worked until a week ago, and he starts screaming bloody murder. Angry L started smiling at her just before she stuck him with the needle and had this horrible look of betrayal on his face, it was heartbreaking. Sad We're both really unimpressed with here.

To everyone who has started weaning: did your babies show interest in food before you offered it to them? L hasn't show any interest and doesn't put anything in his mouth besides his hand.

reastie · 14/06/2011 14:31

yes i will try earlier bed time. i'm not sure though as we have done this and she has self settled but shes always woken up a little while later and refused to go in cot - i will let her cry a little but not massive pain type yells.

have managed to put an undercoat on the woodwork in the sitting room bar the window since lunch - amd with a baby - get me Wink

ems hasnt weetabix also got sugar in which in my naive mind is a nono

ohh, jane baby sensory good thanks - we did flying with them, did a car wash (complete with bubbles) and a parachute amongst other things Grin

jackfrost · 14/06/2011 14:50

Reastie - I also agree with the earlier bedtime! Had hours of screaming from girls at bed time until I started forcing them into better sleep routines during the day, much easier now! They still have a bit of a paddy sometimes if they have not slept enough during day but generally far easier!

Girls names are Lucy and Katie - photo now up!

Is Prof still about? A new name perhaps?

debka · 14/06/2011 15:10

gorgeous girls jack

no sign of prof, don't think we even heard about her baby Sad

reastie · 14/06/2011 15:43

jack how much sleep do the girls get in the day time then? I've been quite relaxed with day time napping - follow baby whisperers easy routine (eat, activity, rest) and some days she'll sleep for hours and others hardly at all. Maybe I need to get it more routiney - today she had maybe an hour late morning, a bit over an hour after lunch and has been asleep for the past half hour - maybe that's my down fall. Her bedtime we start to try and get her to bed is 7:30 - 8ish - maybe we should head for nearer the 7:30 or a bit before Hmm

no deb we never heard about profs baby did we. Does anyone know if she's been spotted on other threads?

Jack, girls look gorgeous, lovely smiles. Looked at puc of your bump too, wow it was massive! I'll never know how you managed!
Reastie, I think Weetbix is one of the cereals that is ok for little ones, I don't think it has much sugar in it, but not ok before six months.
Expat, i have always found hv very non committal in their advice, bit rubbish really.
Noah would watch us eating, and puts everything in his mouth. I didn't go by that for giving Noah food, just went with my instinct. I know I'm giving him food too soon but plan to keep him on banana and porridge for a good few weeks yet.

wigglesrock · 14/06/2011 16:46

Sing it with me everyone "oh we're going to Ibiza, oh back to the island" Grin

emski Sofia loved weetabix when I first weaned her, breakfast and supper!! She won't touch it now but Grin Olivia never liked it but you couldn't fill her with porridge.

jackfrost type up Lucy & Katie dob & weight and we'll stick them in stats - gorgeous photos btw.

byronicheroine love the "beer" photo Grin

Right off to take girls to my mums to say goodbye, hopefully she'll have a wee purse full of Euro for me too Grin

janedoe25 · 14/06/2011 16:46

jack your girls are gorgeous!

reastie carwash? i have images of the babies being used to wash carslike little sponges! Grin

reastie · 14/06/2011 17:00

Grin jane no such slave labour - it was just playing the carwash song, ainging along whilst waving pom poms (literally) around alice, a ball pool for the older ones and simultaneously 2 bubble machines going off Grin Grin

jack love the piccie - bet you get stopped all the time by the old grannies to gawp at the twins Grin

wiggles enjoy ibiza - can't wait to see the piccies :)

chocoroo · 14/06/2011 17:12

Hello all,

jack Welcome back, good to see it's possible to be doing so well even with two little ones to deal with.

wiggles A load of boys I went to school with 15 years ago are in Ibiza. Keep clear of them, if their Facebook statuses are anything to go by you don't want to be anywhere near! Hope you have a fab time .

Reastie Defo second the others with trying an early bedtime. If R hasn't napped very well in the day she sometimes has to go to bed before 7. She does have a nap around 5:30 usually though which sees her through to bedtime.

American Expat I feel your pain re: HV. I went over this morning and came out Angry I asked for advice on weaning and she said she wouldn't give me any info until R was at least 24 weeks. She then weighed her and noted that she's dropped down a bit on the graph. I asked why that would be and she said she might be ready to eat more Confused. I don't even think she realised she was contradicting herself.

We're going to try R on some baby rice at the weekend I think. I know it's still early but she's showing lots of the signs. I'm sure she'll object if she doesnt want it!

Right, sorry to those whose posts I've missed...been to buggy fit this morning, had lunch with a friend then popped into work so busy day! Will catch up properly now...

suzym1984 · 14/06/2011 19:20

reastie I too am following the BW routine and try to make sure H has 1.5/ 2 hours on a morning, 1.5/2 hours after lunch and then about 45 mins at about 5pm. We then put him to bed at 7pm latest (sometimes 6.30 if he looks tired then)

suzym1984 · 14/06/2011 19:20

oh, and then dreamfeed at 10.30pm. Not saying that this is in any way perfect tho, but H does seem more rested and in a better mood since I started.

tadjennyp · 14/06/2011 19:22

Just lost a long post, aargh!

I have read everyone's post but S is really grumpy today so may have forgotten most things. Lovely to see you again Jack - beautiful girls! Great photos Byron. Hope A goes to sleep better tonight reastie. Sorry about the rubbish health visitor expat. Yes Borg, currently feeding every hour and a half and it's completely draining me! I hope it ends soon as I don't feel ready to give up bfing yet, but blimey!

I hope you're all having really good tea and bedtime routines. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone, it's definitely not intentional. Have a lovely time in Ibiza wiggles!

byronicheroine · 14/06/2011 20:14

reastie we are following exactly the same "routine" as you - working for us so far, but I totally understand how you feel about the lack of structure. I think I'll go with the flow a bit longer and see what happens. I imagine once they are eating it will gently guide them into a more structured day.... Right?...!
Borg a few people have their babes in the pushchair bit already, and I just tried it today as I was wondering the same thing. Other people said their babies love being more upright but tbh K was not bothered at all and so I put him flat again and he went to sleep! Might try again in a couple of weeks, but if yours is interested I'd say go for it :)
feeling a bit poo tonight as DP came in from work, complained about the (not great if I'm honest!) meal, 'allowed' me a shower saying to take my time, so after a long steaming power shower he shouted at me that he was in a rush and sodded off out again.
I am watching crappy tv and eating delicious Lindt (sorry, choc ;) ) chocolate. Mmmm feel better already
