mapletrees · 15/07/2011 18:28

How was James' day cinnamon? And for that matter how was yours?

I think it's great that we can all disagree over things, yet still respect each others' right to decide what's best for them. The way I see it is that life is complicated, and everyone's situation is different, so just because I think that something is best for my family, doesn't mean it's the best thing for everyone elses.

Great to here your DP is coming home soon sassy Smile

On a less Smile note - Louis has discovered biting. While feeding. Repeatedly. Ouch. It's making me dread bfing Sad

bananacurry · 15/07/2011 19:52

I look on this thread as a source of real live advice and information. Not a book written by someone who hasn't even had a baby! It'd be pointless in my eyes if we all did the same & thought the same, How would we get through the hard stuff without suggestions from people who do it differently??

We're a group of girls brought together because we've all had a baby at the same time & through that I've made some great if a little invisable friends Grin You lot have helped me through my pregnancy and the 1st year of Ollys life, relationship issues, family crap and general day to day niggles! Don't know what I'd have done without you all!

Now, feel free to vomit!!!!!!!!! I haven't even had a drink yet!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/07/2011 20:19

He was great thank you for asking, had 'a big boy' to take him to the dining hall and look after him at lunchtime and did pretty much what he does normally. He wasn't even any grumpier than usual!! I however, walked home crying my eyes out and felt crap all day until I picked him up :(

I agree that it's great here! If someone asks for advice there are several different views to hear and you can choose to listen or ignore without feeling pressure and we have such a variety of experiences something invariably works. I can ask for advice from my mum and if I don't take it there will be trouble so I don't ask. It's great to get things off your chest too Grin

Poor you mapletrees what have you tried? Luke went through a phase of biting and I just took him off, put him on the floor and looked away for a few seconds then picked him up said no biting and put him back. He stopped pretty quick when the milk disappeared. Ds1 did it once and I shouted (mostly out of shock but also pain) and he never did it again though was probably scarred by my reaction!!!

I'm babysitting tonight so looking forward to putting kids to bed and watching crap on TV! I'm amazed at how some children are totally captivated by TV, the 2yo is in bed but the 5yo and 1yo are up and just glued to curious George!! Baby will apparently cry when I put him to bed :(

SeaChelles · 15/07/2011 20:55

Grin DP is working a 7 day week this week, but is off Monday, Tuesday next week. So I am working Monday (instead of Tuesday) whilst he looks after Olly, so that we have Tuesday off together, but we are still sending Olly to the child minder so we can be alone for the day (I feel REALLY bad about this by the way!! I feel as though if I'm here, he should be with me and feel bad about sending him so we can be alone...Sad But DP says I need to man up!) We were just gonna have a quiet day as we are skint....however......I have just won £75 on the bingo!! Woo hoo!!! Grin

So now we are going to....

Drop Olly off at CM
Go for brekkie somewhere
In to town as DP needs new suits for work (which we have the pennies for already)
Stop at Chester zoo on way back for a wander
Go for lunch at Frankie and Bennys
See a film and/or go home to bed (most likely sleep not rumpy pumpy!! Wink)
Pick Olly up about 4pm
Family time for 3 hours til Ollys bedtime
Then nice tea and a drinkie or two....

Just thought I'd share as I was feeling really down and this has really cheered me up!! Plus I hopefully get to go and see Harry Potter tomorrow night if DP is home from work on time to look after monkey man. Smile

Love to all.xxx

cinnamongreyhound · 15/07/2011 21:36

Have a lovely day SeaChelles, lots of my parents send their children to me when they're off work don't feel guilty. Congrats on your £75 win, enjoy it it won't last long ;)

sassy34264 · 15/07/2011 21:40

bit of a moan coming up.
i am really really struggling at the moment. it is getting worse daily. i feel like im full term. i can hardly do anything and im only 6months on wed. my mum has just had to put the babies to bed for me as i couldnt get up the stairs carrying them. ive just had to come up to bed on my hands. this bloody back is knackered. jacob has spent 10mins crying cos i didnt put him to bed, hence i have come to bed to settle him. got him to calm down and put him back and he was about to start again but fell fast asleep when he saw me get into my bed. he is such a gorgeous mummies boy. Grin
going to have the laziest day ever tomorrow and see if i can go a whole day without aggravating this back. i have bloody spd again too. im not sure i can physically get through 2 weeks without dp at the minute. and im wondering how the hell this is going to continue for 3 months esp as baby will get bigger and heavier and so will twins. argh! im tired too. so that makes me more pessimistic, hopefully i will be more cheery tomorrow. night. x

SeaChelles · 15/07/2011 21:53

sassy - where are you? are any of us close? x

saoirse86 · 15/07/2011 21:57

SeaChelles oooh I'm sure you can fit the rumpy pumpy in somewhere, maybe at Chester Zoo?! Wink

cinnamon I'm sorry you felt so down today. It seems so long away for these little ones but it'll creep up won't it!

sassy have you had any physio? I know a lot of the advice is not really going to work well with the twins (like lifting them 'properly') but it might help to refresh your memory on what (little) exercises you could do. And can you ask anyone for help? I know your mum's been helpful, does she know how badly you're suffering? If all else fails, you can all sleep in the living room so you don't have to walk upstairs, and have a few glasses of wine! Grin Hmm

Orlaith only had one nap today. She's done it a couple of times before when she's refused to go down, but today she actually chose to have one nap IYSWIM. I'm hoping it'll help tonight (fingers crossed). The only problem is that if she's only going to have a nap in the afternoon, that'll properly mess up our usual routine. Confused

comixminx · 15/07/2011 22:07

I agree with all those saying how nice it is that we can disagree in a civil fashion! We're not all going to do things the same way, but it's so great that we can have opinions without getting cross at each other - and give advice without taking it badly if it's not taken. I really appreciate this thread and being able to hear what's happening with other mothers and babies who are at the same sort of stage of things, whatever the precise views on issues like sleep and jabs.

sassy, sorry to hear you are getting so tired already - but not surprised! How hard it must be. I suppose you can't get such a thing as a mother's help? I expect the answer is no because it'd cost money but maybe there is something / some equivalent service you could get, at least some time?

Chelle, many congrats on the win! How cool is that.

Dixiebell · 15/07/2011 22:49

Hi all, just back from a week in Cornwall, was fab and Arlo absolutely loved the beach and wading in the sea. Made the mistake though of driving back during daytime, rather than after 6 as we've done before, and Arlo hardly slept, sobbed much of tge way hone. It took twice as long as we had to keep stopping to calm him down. Ended up with DH and I singing nursery rhymes for an hour and a half as tge only way to stop him crying. So six days of bliss followed by six hours of torture! Won't be making that mistake again...!!

newmum001 · 15/07/2011 23:10

Sassy sorry you're having such a rubbish time recently. I honestly can't imagine how you're doing it. I struggle with 1 baby nevermind a teenager, 2 babies and a bump!

Gotta go to BIL's bbq tomorrow. It's his step sons birthday and I'm bloody dreading it! Gonna be 50 ish people there and it's supposed to be pissing down (they have a gazeebo) so I shall either be spending most of my time indoors so grace can crawl around or have to try and keep her on my knee outside which will never happen! It's gonna be an absolute nightmare!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2011 00:45

Babysitees are now 15 mins late and I need my bed :(

sassy34264 · 16/07/2011 10:07

seachelles even if some of you lived next door, i dont think i'd let you in at the minute! builders about half way through and there are tools, paint, timber and tiles everywhere.
saoirse i went to the physio with my spd whilst pregnant with twins and although they didnt tell me any exercise they did give me a belt. will dig it out i think. i have a midwife appointment on thurs. im going to mention my back. unfortunately i dont drink when im pregnant or breast feeding (unless i know they are having a bottle for the next feed and then i will!) so its gonna be a while before i can do that- and trust me it wont be wine, it will be cognac! Grin
comix my mum helps me but she is going on her hols today for 2 weeks. there is no one else to ask apart from mil, but considering when she came on tues she put her can of fanta, fags, and lighter on the floor and i had to take all 3 off jacob (he was on her knee sucking on the lighter when i came down from the toilet) i think i'll pass.

argh newmum dont call her a teenager, shes only 10. she already refers to herself as a pre-teen (rolling eyes) hope you enjoy the bbq. its chucking it down here.
dixie ive had to do that more than once, although only for about 30 mins. im trying to have 5mins on the couch, as ive hurt my bump just making breakfasts'. (ligaments stretching) but both babies can climb up on couch now, so they are all over me! they love to lift my t-shirt up and smack my belly! poor baby.

saoirse86 · 16/07/2011 10:37

Dixie I'm glad you had a nice time, even if it ended in nursery rhymes! Grin We're going away on monday and both flights are daytime flights, which seems good in a way as we're not disrupting her night time sleep any more than she disrupts it herself but I'm not sure how it'll go. I keep remembering how our friends went on holiday when their DD was 11 months and she had major diarrhoea on the plane, filled all her nappies, dirtied all her spare clothes and they ended up asking someone for a nappy and wrapping her in a blanket! Confused

newmum if the weather's anything like it is here hopefully you'll be inside, but that still won't be much fun with 50 people in their living room and little Grace on the floor. Good luck! Wink

Last night Orlaith was a nightmare so I'm thinking I'll have to force her to keep to 2 naps for now. Although she woke at 12.30 doing her panic crying/screaming and I went in to find her cowering in the corner of her cot. I had to wake her up properly to show her it was me holding her. Poor little thing. Sad

saoirse86 · 16/07/2011 10:45

I don't know how I managed to take half an hour writing that post, but X pots sassy!

Oh sassy haven't you got any friends nearby who are a bit more useful than your MIL? I can't remember where you live, but I can remember it was far from everyone I think. But if I was close I would happily come and couldn't care less about builders' stuff!

Debs75 · 16/07/2011 11:23

Seachelles Harry Potter is ace. Iwatched it with dd1 yesterday morning and we were just gawping at the 3D screen all the way through. I kept lifting the specs up to see what it was like without them but it was a bit blurry.

Sassy I hope you can find some relief for your back, or at least some help with the twins. When is dp back home?

Saoirse that sounded awful for your friends, and everyone else if hr nappies smelt like Lucy's

SeaChelles · 16/07/2011 12:21

WALKING BOY ALERT [hgrin] [hgrin] [hgrin]

Oliver took 18 whole steps this morning and I cried!

Debs - is there a non-3D option? Not sure if my DM will like it in 3D! [hhmm]

Sassy - I wouldn't care if you lived in a bombsite - I'd still come and help. Smile

saoirse - If we get the urge at Chester zoo now and end up on the news am not speaking to you again!! Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2011 12:39

There's a non 3D version here SeaChelles we are hoping to go in the week. We can only use our Clubcard vouchers for 2D so always go for that option!

What a horrible day!!! Got soaked after being outside for 2 minutes. We were supposed to be going to the local steam engine rally but are going to go tomorrow if any better.

So sorry you are struggling sassy34264, can't really offer any advice I was pretty active during my pregnancies but other than slight spd towards the end I was lucky to be very fit. Seeing hugs and hoping the next 2 weeks go quickly for you.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2011 12:40

Oh and yay for Oliver!!!! I cry all the time so I'm not surprised you did, it's a huge thing!

Debs75 · 16/07/2011 19:00

Seachelles yes there is and it is cheaper as well[hsad]

Well done for Oliver [hgrin]

newmum001 · 16/07/2011 19:46

Aww well done oliver!!!! I cried reading that he'd walked on fb before whilst I was at bbq so god knows what I'll be like when grace walks!

Sassy I seem to remember that I'm not too far from you, if you need any help I'd be happy to! Builders dust doesn't bother me in the slightest!

Saoirse grace was a nightmare last night too, woke up about 5 times but settled easily the first 4 then she was up from 11.30 till 1.45 at one point I had to snap her out of horrible horrible crying by holding her at arms lenght and shouting her name (second time I've had to do that in a wee) she would not settle after that but eventually I put her back in her cot and sat on the rocking chair next to her and she stroked my arm till she fell asleep and I had to wake her from a very deep sleep at 7am!

Had such a lovely day at the bbq, it pissed it down most of the day but grace was an angel and had everyone eating out the palm of her hand! she had a crawl on the trampoline and kept wiggling her bum to get it bouncing! It was so cute! Dp took her for a drive for 40 minutes so she could have a sleep (which is the only way she'd have had a sleep) but she's been so good I was such a proud mummy!

Hope everyone's had a nice day

comixminx · 16/07/2011 20:31

Aphra had a bad night last night too after me being so blasé about sleep! Very grizzly and unhappy; we gave her calpol in the end and she did get back to sleep eventually. She woke up earlier than we wanted to get up so we took her into bed with us and she slept well then, so that was good.

It was belting it down this morning and on through to the early afternoon when we went to get some shopping done, but when we got back it started to get really nice, and in the end it was possible to leave the washing out for a good long while - I really hadn't expected it! Just as well, because we do have more to do tomorrow too.

sassy34264 · 16/07/2011 21:15

thanks everyone. i'd like to say im a bit better but my back is still going and i cant put my weight on my right leg. thats why going up stairs is so hard. i also had to sit down to put my knickers on this morning too! god, it makes me feel old.
debs dp has a flight to cyprus 28th so should be home beginning of august.
newmum seachelle and saoirse thank you very much, you are very kind, but i think you have enough to do already. i will find a way to muddle through. im hoping midwife appointment might bring a solution.
seachelles go olly! Smile

saoirse86 · 16/07/2011 22:31

Wow SeaChelles I'm so excited for Olly! I knew he'd taken a few steps before but had he done anywhere near that amount before now?! Shock Grin

Well I'm secretly glad other babies are waking up and not just mine! Wink I decided to put the night light on tonight as the door shut while I was in her room and I realised it's absolutely pitch black. I know I'm grasping at straws but you never know it might make her feel better when she wakes. Hmm

sassy even if you won't accept help (although you definitely should if any of us are actually nearby) then you can at least complain to us all as much as you like if it makes you feel a teeny tiny bit better. Last year I was sitting on the bed to put my knickers on from embarrassingly early on, and if I dropped an item on the floor I'd rather get a new one out of the drawer than pick them up. Blush
